Signs at the cemetery. Folk superstitions

My father's mother was an extravagant, greedy, and sometimes evil woman. She devoted her whole life to poisoning the lives of her children and grandchildren. She lived only for herself, made demands, claims. Even living in the same house with her three sons, she put a lock on the door of her room, where she hid food, money and all that.

The sons grew up without her support, they were raised by their paternal grandmother. My father was the middle son. When the eldest went to Uzbekistan to study, and Alexandra’s grandmother died, my father was left alone with his brother, because... their mom was busy with her life, and their dad, my grandfather, was on a business trip to Cuba.

My father began studying at a technical school, majoring in geology. On a stipend of 30 rubles, I had to feed my younger brother and live myself too. The light in the house was turned off for non-payment, and they stole it, running an extension cord from the basement into the apartment to turn on the lamp in the evenings and the tape recorder. They ate mostly bread and sprat.

A few years later all the sons got married. My grandmother immediately disliked my mother. And everyone called her a prostitute. My mom is tired of this. She found a way to move into another apartment with my father. When my mother was pregnant with me, my grandmother told everyone that the child was from someone else. Fortunately, I was born exactly, copying the genes of my father. When I was one year old, she fed me ice cream, almost sending me to the next world. I had false croup. I miraculously survived, but I had to learn to walk and talk again. She often held me at arms length from the fourth floor balcony. Supposedly for sunbathing. One day, my father saw this and heard from her: “I’m holding it, but my hands are shaking. I think I’ll drop it, but won’t I? After that, she was forbidden to approach me until my fifth birthday.

In the hungry 90s, when my parents were in trouble, there was no work, no money, my sister and I walked around skinny and were often malnourished. One day my grandmother called and joyfully invited us to make dumplings. She has both flour and meat. We went joyfully with my mother; my father was on duty at the drilling rig. All day the three of us made dough, minced meat, and made dumplings. And all this time the grandmother was filled with cheap mumbo jumbo. And when we finished making the dumplings and were waiting to cook and eat them, she started scolding and kicked us out of the house. So we went home without a slurp. My father, having returned from his shift and learned about this, called his mother and said that he would not forgive her either during her life or after her death.

In 1997, she developed gangrene on her legs, after an operation to replace blood vessels, she lay in our house for 2 years, poisoning everyone’s life with her despotism. She died in 1999. We buried her and breathed freely. But they soon noticed that the ground at the grave was constantly subsiding. We filled up the hill again. The third time my father couldn’t stand it and exclaimed: “Why is she eating it or what?”

This went on for about 6 months. My father’s older brother once invited him to go to the cemetery to fill up the grave so that it would last for a long time. They filled the hill with buckets until late in the evening. And when they left the cemetery they said goodbye and went home. We never saw my uncle alive again. They killed him a few days later, beat him for a long time, asking where his money was, and then threw him out the window from the second floor, already dead, framing everything as an accident.

My father felt the moment of his brother's death. He was simply thrown out of bed. Although he was sleeping. And a couple of hours later his wife came to us and took my father to the hospital to see his older brother. There it already became clear that they brought him in late, and the life support machine was running empty. It was a shock for us.

Today we will talk about how to behave in a cemetery - how to behave correctly in a cemetery. What does right mean? This means that there are special laws that everyone must follow. Failure to comply with these laws leads to dire consequences for the one who made the mistake. As they say, ignorance of the laws is no excuse.

There are certain rules of behavior in the cemetery. There is nothing sophisticated or complicated about them; they are very simple and obvious things to many. However, as a practicing magician, I meet people who have problems precisely because of violation of these rules of behavior in the cemetery. Therefore, I decided to write this article.

There will be no special rituals or practices in it - the article is intended for ordinary people who are far from practicing magic.

I will answer questions about how to properly care for the dead, what can and cannot be done in the cemetery, what to bring with you to the dead and what can be taken from him, how to care for the grave, etc. In general, these are ordinary things that, once you read about them, you will never be mistaken in the future.

So, how to behave correctly in a cemetery. You come to visit your dead relatives and friends at the cemetery in order to honor their memory. These are usually pre-planned trips, so you may well be prepared for such a trip.

Rule of behavior at the cemetery No. 1 - properly prepare for a trip to the cemetery

First of all, pay attention to your clothes. Perhaps short skirts and trendy coral color suit you, but! You are not coming to show off yourself, but to honor the dead. The colors of the cemetery are black and white. Black is preferable, as it is also considered a mourning color. If you find it difficult to find suitable clothes in these colors, then simply do not dress brightly. The dead don't like bright colors.

Choose muted tones from your wardrobe. In addition (and this is especially important!) your legs should be completely covered - pants or a long floor-length skirt will be the most appropriate clothing. This is not a fashion, this is a rule of conduct in a cemetery. This is exactly the moment that is fatal for many. Therefore, I repeat - your legs must be completely covered!

Never wear open shoes when visiting a cemetery. Always choose closed shoes, even if it's hot outside. As a last resort, take with you a replaceable pair of closed shoes, which you will put on before entering the cemetery and take off immediately upon leaving it.

The most extreme option for spontaneous trips to the cemetery when you are wearing sandals is to put regular shoe covers or plastic bags over your shoes. This is also true in humid weather when you are wearing shoes that get wet.

Why are closed legs and feet an undeniable rule of conduct in a cemetery? This is a property of the world, a property of dead energy, which many have heard about, but many do not use. “The dead draws the living along with it.”

This means that dead earth, dust from dead earth, settling on your body, leads to the imposition of dead energy on your living one. The property of the world is that the living sooner or later becomes dead, but the not dead becomes alive. Therefore, this energy will influence according to its natural property.

Usually, such an imposition of dead energy on a living person leads to illness in the latter. Which one exactly? Most often the legs suffer - heaviness, fatigue, congestion (in the circulation of blood and lymph in the legs).

But generally speaking, dead energy is deposited due to its gravity in the three lower energy centers (chakras), and the symptoms may correspond to disturbances in the functioning of each of them. I talk about this first of all because this is the most common mistake due to ignorance of the rules of how to behave in a cemetery.

Suppose you do not know about this rule of conduct in a cemetery, and your hair falls from your head onto the grave. What will happen? A certain mechanism is launched (the same one that magicians use for the above damage).

The consequences are that the dead person on whose grave a hair has fallen has access to your head, to your consciousness, to your mind. And now he can influence your thoughts, “whisper” something to you and so on; the saddest consequence of the fact that you can “earn money” in this way is a corresponding psychiatric diagnosis with all the consequences that come from it.

In addition, there is damage for which the victim’s hair is placed on the grave in a cross shape. This leads to the victim's fate changing in a negative direction. Therefore, be careful, because when combing, more than one hair may fall out, and suddenly these two hairs, according to the law of meanness, will fall on the grave just like that.

The same safety measures apply to any other biological material - do not spit on dead soil, and you should also not go to the toilet in the cemetery. If, excuse me, you feel the urge, go outside the cemetery to relieve yourself.

I’m also talking about those toilets that are located on the territory of the cemetery - you shouldn’t go there either. Toilets should be located behind the cemetery fence and nothing else; if the toilet is inside, then it is always the case that the living comes into contact with the dead.

In addition, in such toilets they often perform magic - for example, change is thrown into them. This little thing is thrown in for a reason. The one who takes this little thing for himself takes away with it any illness or poverty from the one who threw it off. Once it gets on your feces, it will work against your will, and you will have no idea where this came from.

Unfortunately, every person has to visit a cemetery several times in their life: to attend a funeral, restore order, or simply visit deceased relatives. At such moments, it is necessary to follow certain rules and pay attention to signs that will allow you to predict misfortune and prevent it.

The first and most important rule about what not to do is no alcohol and being sober when visiting a grave. If a person is drunk, he can say a lot of unnecessary words and thereby attract bad energy to himself or even anger the spirits. Subsequently, there may be retribution for insulting the deceased, so it is best to leave alcohol for the wake.

When faced with the loss of a loved one, you need to pull yourself together and try to see him off on his last journey with dignity.

Under no circumstances should you drink alcohol, although for many this seems to be the only way to dull the pain.

As mentioned above, drinking alcohol insults the memory of the deceased, and in order for his spirit to successfully leave the earth and not disturb people, the following rules must be observed:

Signs on the grave

As you know, the impossibility of placing a coffin in a hole due to its small size is a bad omen, but that’s not all: if the grave begins to collapse after burial, this may mean the imminent death of one of the deceased’s close relatives.

Some people believe that the appearance of ants on a grave is a bad sign, but it’s not at all like that: firstly, when visiting deceased relatives, people bring food - an excellent bait for ants, which is quite natural, and secondly, such insects do not breed at the burial site of bad people.

In such a situation, there is no need to worry: there is nothing wrong with the appearance of ants on a grave.

Why can't you eat in a cemetery?

When visiting the grave of the deceased, it is customary to bring food with you - cookies, sweets, pies.

This is necessary for the energy supply of the deceased, and he receives it from human food.

According to old beliefs, food brought to the grave should not be consumed, because... they no longer contain positive energy, and they not only will not bring any benefit, but can also harm a living person.

There is another interpretation: it is possible and necessary to eat food brought for commemoration, if only because over time they will disappear and begin to decompose.

However, the church does not approve of this, considering the habit of eating over the grave a relic of the pagan faith, when it was customary to remember the dead directly in the cemetery on the first Sunday after Radunitsa.

Who should not go to the cemetery?

It is not advisable for children and pregnant women to appear at the churchyard, because... they have weak energy protection.

If you neglect this rule, the spirit can move into a child or an unborn baby.

It is also not recommended for girls to visit graves during critical days: it is believed that at this time the fair sex is dirty, and the evil spirits emanating from within can prevent the deceased from moving to the Heavenly Kingdom.

If you step on a grave

When a person accidentally steps on a grave, this can cause the wrath of the deceased buried in it. The ancient peoples believed that in this case it was necessary to immediately jump back and ask for forgiveness, but in any case, trouble would not be avoided.

If a person is drawn to a cemetery

It also happens that people are overcome by an irresistible desire to go to the cemetery. Most often, this desire worries for several months after the death of a loved one.

There is another explanation - strong energy. Some people feel peace and tranquility in the churchyard. There are two options here:

If, even after visiting a church and cemetery, the desire to go there does not disappear, it means that the spirits of loved ones need more frequent communication, and there is nothing wrong.

In order to avoid misfortunes, it is enough to follow a few rules:

Why can't you count money at the cemetery?

Another most common superstition is that you should not count your money over a grave. As you know, what you boast about, you will be left without.

A person who neglects this rule may soon notice a deterioration in his financial situation.

If even a lot of banknotes have fallen on the graveyard, it is best to leave them there and not pick them up, otherwise you can attract diseases and problems to yourself, for the solution of which you will have to spend a much larger amount.

If you fell in a cemetery

Very often at funerals people either lose consciousness or stumble due to their distracted state and fall.

In both cases, falling into a cemetery is a bad sign, foreshadowing illness or the imminent death of the person who has fallen.

To protect him from harm, you need to read the “Our Father” over him three times, sprinkle him with blessed water and cross him with a lit church candle.

If a monument to a close relative falls in a churchyard, this indicates that he is trying to remind himself of himself or talk to the living in order to predict a significant event or protect him from harm. In the latter case, to communicate with the deceased, you will have to turn to a medium.

Animals at funerals

After the death of a person, it is advisable to remove all animals, especially cats, from his home at least for a while: it is believed that they are the ones who maintain contact with spirits, and if necessary, the latter can move into them.

If a cat follows a crowd of people during a funeral procession, you need to carefully remove it to another place. You cannot kick or push with your foot, because... it may contain the soul of a deceased person.

They say death never comes to a person unexpectedly. She always gives signs that the last hour is near. This is an opportunity to have time to prepare for the inevitable, if it is destined to happen. Over a thousand-year history, humanity has accumulated colossal experience, including in everything related to death. And if we can only guess about what is there on the other side, then we are quite capable of recognizing the signs of fate that signal impending trouble. We will briefly try to talk about the most famous signs that have come true more than once, according to eyewitness accounts.

What phenomena can happen before death?

Keep in mind that a single sign in itself does not mean anything. Several repeating signs, both obvious and those that came in a dream, should be considered.

The first, most obvious sign is when the home begins to smell like a dead person, although no one has died yet. Several people should smell the smell. Otherwise, it is a hallucination due to nervousness (for example, when one of the relatives is sick for a long time).

There is no firm opinion regarding this. Some believe that this is a dream of imminent illness, and if a tooth falls out with blood, it means the imminent death of a close relative. Some argue that such dreams arise from nervousness out of fear for the health of their own teeth. Freud's dream book on this subject states that a tooth falling out in a dream signals fear of castration as a sign of retribution for obvious or imaginary sexual sins.

There is a belief that a bluish glow can be observed around a person who is soon to pass into another world. But not when looking at it directly, but with peripheral vision. The same goes for shadows and black spots. If you notice something like this with your peripheral vision, death is somewhere nearby.

The doctor who came to the patient stumbled - probably medicine will no longer help in this case. Having asked the patient how he is feeling and receiving the answer “Terrible”, be sure of a speedy recovery. If a person answers that everything is fine, he is most likely no longer a tenant. It is a bad omen if a priest who has come to administer unction to a sick person cannot find the right place in the missal for a long time or, after leaving home, returns for a forgotten item.

Once the patient who receives communion falls asleep, he will recover; if he cannot sleep, he will soon die. If he turns toward the wall and also lies on his left side for a long time, he doesn’t have long to live. A sign of imminent death is a change in the body odor of the sick person - they say, “it smells like earth.” This is also signaled by a change in the color of the pectoral cross if it is lowered into the water from which a person drank.

In order to find out whether the patient will recover or go to his ancestors, they used to resort to some fortune telling:

  1. Place fresh celandine on your head. If a person sings, he will live. I cried - no more.
  2. When fresh nettle, infused for 24 hours in the urine of a patient, turns black, the disease is incurable. If the plant remains green, such a person will certainly recover.
  3. Rub a piece of pork meat on the patient's feet and give it to the dog. The animal eats the treat - the person will recover.
  4. Light a candle next to the patient. When the flame burns evenly, there will be healing from the disease. If it sways, it’s dead.

A bad omen is black birds: rooks, crows or owls. If they appear in a populated area and take a fancy to a certain house, expect trouble.

A sure sign when a dog howls in the yard with its muzzle lowered to the ground - it is mourning its owner. If a cat constantly spins around the patient and lies on its back under the table, such a disease is incurable. A bad sign is if a cat lies across the floorboards.

A sign of the imminent death of household members is when a flower blooms that has never bloomed before. The exception is cacti, some species of which bloom once every few years. It is considered a bad sign if a tree planted by someone dries out or is broken by the wind. This means that the person himself does not have long to live.

A person who sees fire in the forest or in a cemetery must prepare to depart to another world. These are the souls of ancestors giving a sign to get ready for the journey. The same goes for a person whose clothes have been chewed by mice. A sign that soon he will change into new clothes for the last time. In general, the appearance of these rodents in a city apartment is a bad sign, just like a mouse running over a lying person.

When it flew into the house - it meant the sudden death of one of the relatives. A bird that has entered through a window should be fed and released through another window. The exception is pigeons - feed them or don’t feed them, trouble is inevitable. A cuckoo, even if it just sits on the roof of a house, signals an imminent or dead person.

So, it did happen. A man has died, and inconsolable relatives are crying around him. Neighbors and relatives, as a rule, take charge of organizing the funeral - grief-stricken relatives are of little use now.

There are many signs you can see at funerals. But you may not see it - then everything will definitely be fine.

There is a belief that if a dead person has one eye slightly open, he is looking for a fellow traveler from among those around him. After the funeral, the bed of the deceased should be washed, otherwise death will not rest.

Based on what the weather is like on the day of the funeral, you can determine what kind of person the deceased was during his lifetime. A clear day - the deceased was definitely a good person, rainy weather - a so-so person.

Relatives are not supposed to carry the coffin, so as not to leave behind. For those who were not related by blood to the dead, nothing will happen. Men who carry the coffin should wear an embroidered one on their arm. It is generally accepted that this is how he thanks everyone for the last honor.

Everyone in the room in which someone died is covered with dark thick fabric for 40 days. It’s not even a sign, but a necessary condition. The mirror is a bridge between the material and astral planes of existence. The soul that has left the body walks among the living for 40 days, only then moves on. If the deceased sees a mirror, he can become its prisoner, and only a knowledgeable person can free the restless soul.

Items that had direct contact with the dead body should not be left after the funeral. Thus, the measure taken to make the coffin, as well as the ropes that tied the limbs of the deceased, are placed in the grave. There are many powerful rituals in magic when they are used. If a witch is present at a funeral ceremony, she will certainly want to take possession of this powerful artifact.

The water with which the deceased was washed must be poured onto the ground in a place where no one walks, so as not to accidentally step there, at least until the first rain.

Pregnant women and children under 7 years of age are strictly prohibited from attending the funeral. You can’t cry too much - the deceased, seeing how they miss him, will not want to leave and will become a ghost.

At a funeral, nothing bad should be said about the deceased.

When leaving the cemetery, you need to stand with your back to the cemetery and wipe your feet.

After the coffin is taken out of the house, the person leaving is the last to sweep and. This is done in a special way, from the door to the farthest corner of the room. The old broom and rag are thrown away, otherwise the coffin will soon be taken out again.

The comb used to comb the deceased's hair is either thrown into the river or placed in a coffin. He is considered unclean - he cannot be washed or reprimanded. You can’t throw it into a lake or pond - you definitely need running water.

There is a tradition of throwing a handful of earth on the lid of the coffin. Otherwise, the deceased will find a hole in the grave and begin to scare the living at night. If a funeral procession passes by a house in which someone is sleeping, he should certainly be awakened. It is believed that the soul of the deceased can take the sleeping person with it.

You should not cross the road in front of a funeral procession. If a person dies of an illness, take it upon yourself. Under no circumstances should you overtake the funeral procession - you will appear before God before the deceased.

The wake is an integral part of the funeral ceremony. Memories of the deceased, what kind of person he was, a glass of “For the Repose”, a joint prayer for the repose of the soul - everyone has encountered this at least once.

There is a sign: when returning from a funeral, the first thing you should do is touch the stove - then no one in the house will die for a long time. Old people say that when you come into contact with the element of Fire, of which the stove is the personification, you will burn all bad omens at the root. If there is no stove in the house, you should light a candle, but certainly bring it from the temple.

There should be a glass of water in the house for 40 days after death. It is believed that the deceased drinks from it. Therefore, the vessel should be placed where someone else will not accidentally drink the water - this is not good.

Signs that a person is about to die

Many signs about the impending death of one of the relatives or friends appear to a person in a dream. Please note that this sign should be given significance if two or more people had a similar dream in a short period of time.

As mentioned above, there is no clear opinion about lost teeth. But a dream about cleaning the house, namely sweeping the floor, is a clear signal that someone will die soon. In the popular consciousness, rubbish is associated with the souls of ancestors, no matter how strange it sounds. Therefore, you should not sweep garbage over the threshold; it is a bad omen that you will sweep away one of your relatives.

A sign of an imminent funeral in the house - when you dream of earth or fresh boards. There is no point in arguing here: the earth is for the grave, the boards are for the coffin. It is also believed that a deceased person in a house will dream of seeing a log falling out of the wall, digging earth, chicken eggs, or a heel or sole falling off.

If a bride in white clothes kisses you in a dream, it means death has kissed you. But the death itself, which appears in night dreams, whether it is yours or someone close to you, does not carry a negative connotation and is rather symbolic: one of the stages of your life has been passed and the next one begins.

On the contrary, one’s own death in a dream is a harbinger of a long, eventful life. The people you are talking to should also not cause concern. This is a sign of future changes in your life, and not necessarily for the worse. The exception is when the deceased calls with him. You should be extremely careful over the next few days - a fatal accident is possible.

Signs foreshadowing imminent death

In Russia, it is customary to associate the souls of the dead with birds and animals. It is believed that the soul of a close relative is able to reincarnate into a bird or an animal, which, as it were, warns the living members of its family about impending trouble. If a bird sits down and knocks on the window, it means expect bad news about the death or serious illness of a person close to you. Also, people in Russia believe that after death, the soul of the deceased can enter the body of a dog or cat and come to their home to be with their family for at least a little longer.

If there is a seriously ill person in the house and during his lifetime his facial features began to sharpen and his nose became cold, then this means that he will soon die. It is believed that Death has come very close to him and is pulling him by the nose into the other world.

A sharp improvement in the dying person’s well-being is also considered a bad sign. As they say: “Before death, the patient felt better.” There are many cases where a practically dying person, literally the day before his death, felt relief, he even gained an appetite, and he began to move around the house on his own. However, at night he became very ill and died.

Another one that foreshadows imminent death: if a dying person suddenly begins to tremble, then it is believed that Death itself begins to look into his eyes.

If the patient begins to gather the sheets into a fist or make movements as if he were collecting something from his body (people say “picking”), then these signs also foreshadow his imminent death.

Signs associated with funerals

If it’s in the house, then all the mirrors there need to be covered right away. It is believed that the soul of the deceased can accidentally fall into a looking glass from which there is no way out. The mirrors are kept hung for forty days. After this period, the soul of the deceased finally passes into the afterlife and the mirrors can already be opened. There are many chilling stories that tell of what can happen if this ritual is not followed. Oddly enough, even hardened atheists for the most part still hang up mirrors if someone close to them dies in their house.

In the room where the coffin with the body of the deceased stands, all doors and windows are closed and pets are not allowed into this room. If a cat jumps on a coffin with a body, then this is considered a very bad sign, and a dog, with its barking and howling, can scare the soul of the deceased, which remains next to its lifeless body for three days after death.

For forty days after death, a cup of water is placed in the house of the deceased, and a cotton towel is hung outside. It is believed that the soul comes into the house, drinks water and wipes itself with a towel. There are many cases when water in a cup, left overnight, miraculously disappeared.

It is considered a very bad sign if your eye suddenly opens slightly. People say that soon there will be another death in this family. It’s as if a dead man is looking for a fellow traveler to the next world.

Signs associated with the coffin and belongings of the deceased

You cannot nail the coffin lid in the house. This may foreshadow another death. After the coffin has been taken out of the house, it is necessary to sweep and wash the floors; after washing, it is better to throw away the broom, rags and bucket. It is believed that in this way, death is washed away from all corners. This superstition is firmly connected with another sign: when someone goes on a business trip or travel, it is recommended, on the contrary, not to wash or sweep the floors for 24 hours.

If it turns out that the coffin turned out to be too big for the deceased, then we should expect another death soon.

Relatives accidentally bought extra items for the funeral ritual - this is also a very bad omen. Under no circumstances should such things be left at home - they must be placed in the coffin of the deceased so that he takes them with him to the grave.

Signs associated with the cemetery and grave

It happens that the coffin does not fit into the dug grave. This sign suggests that someone else will die soon. They also say: “the earth does not accept him.” There was a case when the deceased bequeathed to bury him next to his parents, but, for a number of reasons, the relatives were unable to fulfill this last wish of the deceased loved one. He was buried in a new cemetery, where graves were dug using special equipment. When the funeral procession arrived at the cemetery, it turned out that the grave was too small for the coffin, and the gravediggers had to expand it manually. The relatives of the deceased then discussed this incident for a long time and blamed themselves for not being able to fulfill the last will of their deceased relative.

It is also bad if the grave begins to collapse. This could also mean another death in the house.

What to do if you meet a funeral procession

If you are walking down the street and encounter a funeral procession, you should absolutely not cross its path. You also cannot drive a hearse by car. Taxi drivers and professional drivers really believe in this sign.

You cannot watch the funeral from the window. If a coffin is being carried past the windows, then it is best to wake up all members of the household who are sleeping at that moment. It is believed that the deceased can take with him all those who are sleeping at that moment.
