The gearbox is attached to the clutch housing with four studs screwed into the clutch. The gears of the intermediate shaft drive of the second and third gears are helical and are in constant engagement. The input shaft has two bearings. The front bearing is located in the crankshaft seat, the rear bearing is located in the front wall of the gearbox housing.

The rear bearing is fixed on the shaft with a special nut with a left-hand thread. On the inside of the crankcase, the bearing is closed by an oil deflector. Two toothed rims are cut on the back of the shaft. For ease of installation, the spur ring and part of the conical surface of the shaft have an arcuate cutout.

The secondary shaft is located behind the primary on the same axis with it and has two supports. The front shaft support is a set of rollers placed in the input shaft. The rear shaft support is a double-row angular contact ball bearing. Between the bearing and the end of the shaft is an oil deflector.

The intermediate shaft is mounted on two ball bearings, in the front and rear walls of the crankcase. The front bearing is fixed on the shaft with a special nut, which is locked by pressing its shoulder into the groove of the shaft. The rear bearing has a thrust ring on the outer race. On the shaft, the rear bearing is fixed with a cup washer and a special bolt with a left-hand thread.

The reverse gear block is mounted with a bearing assembly on an axle, which is locked in the crankcase by a special threaded pin on the side of the crankcase side hatch. The rods together with the forks move in the axial direction. To fix the neutral position and the included gear, the rods have spring clamps. A locking device is installed between the rods, which prevents the simultaneous inclusion of two gears. One of the rods, taken out of neutral, locks the others.

All shift forks have slotted lugs that accept the shift lever. Moving the lever across the vehicle axle selects the fork, and moving the lever along the vehicle axle engages the selected gear. Between the grooves of the forks of the first - second and third - direct gears, the lever moves freely.

To insert the lever into the groove of the reverse fork, you need to overcome the resistance of the fuse. The fuse is a mushroom-shaped plunger equipped with a position lock, a return spring and a retaining ring that limits the stroke of the plunger. The fuse is closed from the outside with a cover.

On cars of the UAZ-452 family, two drive levers, a horizontal gear shift and a vertical gear selection, are installed in the side cover of the shift mechanism for gear shifting.

When the vertical lever is rotated, the clutch moves vertically on the shaft and can be installed in one of three positions. In this case, the clutch cam enters the groove of the fork for engaging the required gear. By rotating the horizontal lever, the clutch cam moves along with the rod and fork, and engages the gear.

Mounted on the upper flange of the side cover in a special removable support, fixed with four screws. A spring is installed under the shift lever in the support, which presses the lever to the support sphere. From turning around its axis, the lever is fixed by two pins pressed into the lever support and included in its grooves. Consolidation is provided with a corrugated rubber cuff. The side cover has a threaded hole for installing the reversing light switch.

  9. From the side of the output shaft, the following elements should be dismantled:
    1. retaining ring 1;
    2. protective ring 2;
    3. two retaining half rings 3;
    4. large retaining ring 4.
  10. The bolt number 1 is unscrewed, which is the axis of the reverse intermediate gear. After unscrewing it, the axle should be dismantled.
  11. With the help of a thin breakdown, it is necessary to press out the locking pins, and then remove the gearshift rods. Locking pins must be replaced with new ones after removal.
  12. To carry out the separation of the rear crankcase from the secondary shaft, it is necessary to hang the device by the secondary shaft. After that, the rear wall of the crankcase should be heated until it is separated.
  13. The heating time should be about 5 minutes at a temperature of 400 degrees. After warming up the cover, the shafts should be separated using a hammer.
