How does wallet work? How to use Apple's Wallet app

Modern trends force people to use bank and discount cards. And if previously you had to carry a wallet full of plastic, now all you need to do is have a smartphone that supports the NFC function. An IPhone that has the Apple Wallet application preinstalled in its system can act as a current one. Many users, for unknown reasons, do not want to add cards to this program. Perhaps they simply don't know how to do it. Let's correct this situation and look at how to add a discount card to Wallet on iPhone.

Like any thing, the Apple Wallet service has its advantages and disadvantages. To begin with, we suggest considering the positive aspects of the program:

  • Simplicity and convenience. Just bring your phone to the terminal and the funds will be debited.
  • Safety. When using the application, there is no chance of losing a bank or discount card.
  • Multifunctionality. Wallet, in addition to plastic cards, allows you to save tickets for transport, cinema, theater and other institutions.
  • High level of confidential data protection. When making a payment, you must confirm the debit via Touch or Face ID. Also, the contact between the smartphone and the terminal is minimal, which significantly reduces the likelihood of data being intercepted by fraudsters.
  • The application is installed by default on iPhone.

Now let's look at the negative aspects of the service, of which there are actually few:

  • If your phone is damaged or discharged, you will not be able to use the cards.
  • Not all stores in small towns support the contactless payment function.

Note that there are much fewer disadvantages than advantages, so Apple Wallet deserves the attention of users.

How to add a discount card to Wallet

The Apple Wallet service supports a large number of discount cards, both Russian and foreign. Thanks to this, the application can be used to receive a bonus in online stores, where you just need to enter the card number in a special field. Also, electronic tickets purchased through Wallet will automatically appear in the application. Having dealt with the intricacies, you can proceed to adding a discount card. There are several methods for this:

  • By clicking on the link in the SMS message from the store.
  • By clicking on the link received from the store by email.
  • By scanning the barcode on the discount card.
  • Through the store's mobile application.

Let's take a look at adding a discount card from the official Lenta application as an example. First let's run the program, then:

  1. Click on the card image located in the central menu of the application.
  1. Under the plastic data, click on the “Add to Apple Wallet” button.

  1. A discount card with the owner's name and barcode will be displayed on the screen. We check the data and click “Add”.

  1. We go to Apple Wallet and check the availability of the card.

Now, when making a purchase, it is enough to show the barcode from the plastic to the cashier or hold the iPhone to the terminal for a few seconds.

Conclusion

Thus, this article presented instructions describing how to add a discount card to Wallet on an iPhone. The procedure is completely simple and takes a few seconds. Unfortunately, the principle of adding directly depends on the store and the specific discount card. If you have any questions, be sure to write them in the comments below the article.

Hello! Most recently, Apple released the Apple Pay service, which allows you to pay in stores using your iPhone without carrying a plastic card with you. Well, I think everyone knows this. Likewise, it is no secret to anyone that this same card must be linked to your iPhone through a special “Wallet” application.

And just when I wanted to master revolutionary technologies and combine my smartphone with a bank card, a hitch occurred. Which? It’s very simple - after opening the “Wallet”, I didn’t actually find out why I went there. There was no Apple Pay there. You could only link tickets, discount and discount cards - in general, everything that was available before in the Wallet program. Where did Apple Pay go? Now let's find him, let's go!

First of all, you should check the compatible models, because if you are looking for where to add a card to Apple Pay on iPhone 4, then you can do this ad infinitum. So, the ability to add a card is only available on the following devices:

  • iPhone SE and older (6, 6S, 7 and their Plus versions). Please note that iPhone 5S is not supported.
  • iPad mini 3 and 4.
  • iPad Air 2.
  • iPad Pro.
  • Apple Watch (all generations).

Accordingly, all future device models will also support Apple Pay. Otherwise, you will read this article in 2018 and ask - why didn’t the author indicate the iPhone 8 (or whatever it will be)? :)

So if your device is different from those listed above, then you cannot add a card and, accordingly, the Apple Pay menu in the iPhone will be missing. It is useless to look for him there.

But with this everything is “OK” for me - the iPhone SE model, which means it should be possible to connect a card, but I did not find this item in the menu. Why? And all because to write articles, I often experiment with my iPhone.

On iPhone, you can not only change the system interface language, but also the region to which your device belongs. These are two settings independent of each other - it is possible, but at the same time specify absolutely any region of the gadget. And in the case of Apple’s payment system, this plays a very important role, therefore:

  • Open “Settings” and go to “General”.
  • Select “Language and Region” and look at what is indicated there.

By the way, for some reason I had Romania installed.

Why I did this, I couldn’t remember :) As you understand, there is no Apple Pay in this country, which means you can’t add a card for payment. Change the location to Russia and go to the “Wallet” application.

Finally, we see the menu for linking a card, attach it and feel free to go to the store to pay using the newfangled technology of contactless payments.

P.S. If it helped, give it a “like” so that the author doesn’t forget anything else! :) And of course, write in the comments - I’m always waiting!

What is Apple Wallet

Apple Wallet (formerly known as Passbook) is a virtual wallet, a storage of bank and discount card numbers, movie or train, plane, bus, etc. numbers right on your phone. It was officially launched in Russia in October 2016, after a two-year “run-in” in the USA (although savvy users, changing their IP to a British one, used the passbook much earlier).

Requirements:

  • smartphone iPhone 6 and higher;
  • touchID (owner identification by fingerprint) or FaceID (for iPhone X).

It is also possible to launch via:

  • iPad tablet;
  • iPodTouch player;
  • "smart watch" iWatch.

Number of cards: from 8 (on old models) to 12 (on new ones).

What cards are supported?

Over the four years of the program's existence, a great many companies have accumulated that provide Apple with virtual analogues of real cards. These are large chains with a big name and branches in several countries (Auchan, Ikea, McDonald’s, Starbucks), although there are also quite young local companies (Perekrestok, VkusoManiya, TeleMax, Street beat, etc.).

Here are some options that can be used in Russia:

  • BP (gas stations)
  • Leap (sportswear)
  • Re:Store (apple distributor)
  • Samsung
  • Slow subs
  • Ural Airlines
  • AVTODOR-Toll roads
  • Adamas (jewelry)
  • Alpha insurance
  • Magnet
  • M Video
  • Media Markt
  • ROLF Premium (BMW center)
  • Svyaznoy
  • The Snow Queen
  • SportMaster and others, and others, and others.

Do you know if you can load a discount card into your iPhone? Ask the seller at the checkout - he must know if there are virtual analogues

How to add a card

There are already resources that have accumulated a large database of popular maps. These are passsource.com (if there is no barcode on the plastic) and osmicards.com (for a wide variety), as well as the FidMe application. They are easy to use: select a company from the list, enter the number - the virtual card is ready. Files with the .pkpass extension can be transferred:

  • through Apple applications: “Mail”, “Messages”;
  • via AirDrop (local network for Mac and Apple devices, wireless – based on BlueTooth or WiFi);
  • from a Mac device.

You can carry out the procedure yourself:

  • through special applications - with one click;
  • barcode scanning;
  • If you pay on a network that supports Apple Pay, the application itself will offer to add the appropriate discount card.

Apple Wallet replenishment algorithm:

  1. Launch the Wallet app.
  2. Click on the blue plus (“Add card”).
  3. Then take a photo or manually enter the numbers.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Ready!

On a tablet, the process is similar, only the application itself is located in “Settings”.

If the application gives the answer: “This code does not apply to any card” or something similar, then you will not be able to use the application - the manufacturer did not count on the virtual use of the card through an iPhone.

To use the application via your smartwatch (and have it work independently of your smartphone):

  1. Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Click "My Watch".
  3. Go to Wallet and Apple Pay.
  4. Select the one you need from the list of cards you've already added to your iPhone.
  5. Click Add.

Or click “Add a new card” and do everything as the instructions appear.

Before adding, be sure to enable TouchID or FaceID. If you disable it or remove the password, information about all cards will be immediately erased from the phone’s memory so that it does not fall into the hands of intruders. For iWatch, wrist recognition or at least a password is required, otherwise no data will be saved.

Settings

The Apple Wallet application allows you to view the history of card use, check your balance and discount, receive notifications about promotions, etc. It can even be blocked remotely - if your phone is lost or stolen, so information about your cards will be completely safe - guaranteed.

Access to main features through the menu. The following actions are available:

  • deletion;
  • automatic selection (for the top one);
  • sequence change;
  • update information (pull down);
  • useful information (for example, contact information);
  • general access (not for everyone);
  • installation of a special program for a specific card;
  • auto update;
  • display on the locked screen (not always possible - manufacturer restrictions or problems with the geolocation service).

How to use

To receive a discount on a virtual card, there must be an icon on the scanner

as well as contactless terminal and Apple Pay support.

Also, the mechanism should work if the terminal works with PayPass or PayWave.

However, even if you don’t have either of these icons, try it anyway.

The algorithm for opening a virtual discount card via phone is simple:

  1. Open the Wallet app (by default, double-click on Home, on iPhone X, double-click on the side button).
  2. Select the desired option from the list.
  3. Place your phone on the scanner (contactless terminal).
  4. Get a discount/pay for goods.

There is a simplified option - use the “Automatic selection” function: you just need to bring your iPhone to the scanner while holding your finger on the fingerprint recognition touch window (or look at the iPhone X to confirm your identity via FaceID).

Working with Apple Watch is even easier:

  1. Double press the side button.
  2. Contact with the scanner.
  3. Ready! You are awesome!

The most advanced companies equip their retail outlets with contactless terminals. Accordingly, Apple Pay is only applicable where there is a barcode scanner. If (and there are a great many such options) the shopping center has primitive banking terminals that require swiping plastic with a magnetic stripe or inserting a card with a chip, Apple Wallet will turn out to be too modern and will not be useful. And you still can’t get away from the business card holder - is it possible to just reduce its volume a little (by 12 of the most useful copies). However, as a step into the future, Apple Wallet technology is a wonderful embodiment of the ideas of science fiction novels!

Use Apple Pay on Apple Watch to make purchases at stores that support contactless payments. Just set up Apple Pay in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, and you'll be able to make purchases even if you don't have your iPhone with you.

You can add up to eight credit or debit cards, including store cards; they will appear on top of the stack of other cards in Wallet.

If you unpair Apple Watch, turn off your passcode, or turn off wrist recognition, you won't be able to use Apple Pay and any cards you've added to Wallet will be deleted.

Note: Many credit and debit cards, including store cards, can be used with Apple Pay. For Apple Pay availability and supported card issuers, visit support.apple.com/kb/HT6288?viewlocale=ru_RU.

Setting up Apple Pay on Apple Watch. Open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch, and choose Wallet & Apple Pay. If you've already added a card to Wallet on iPhone, it will appear in the list. Tap to add it to Apple Watch. If the card is not in the list, tap “Add payment card.” If you have already specified a supported card for the iTunes Store or App Store, you can enter the security code for that card. For any other card, including a store card, use your iPhone's camera to take a photo of the information on the card, then follow the onscreen instructions. The card issuer may require additional steps to verify your identity.

Adding another credit or debit card. Open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay > Add a Payment Card, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Select the default card. In the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay > Default Card, then select a card.

Find the device account number for the card. When you pay with Apple Watch, the device account number for the card is sent to the merchant along with your payment. To find the last four or five digits of this number, open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay, then select a card.

Removing a card from Apple Pay. Open Wallet on Apple Watch, tap to select a card, tap the card, and choose Remove. Or open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card, and choose Remove.

If your Apple Watch is lost or stolen. If your Apple Watch is lost or stolen, sign in to your iCloud.com account and turn off the ability to pay with debit or credit cards in Wallet. Go to Settings > My Devices, select a device, and tap Remove All. In addition, you can contact your card issuers.

Using discount cards

If you have a store loyalty card, you can add it to Wallet and then swipe it to the contactless terminal when you pay with your Apple Watch.

How to add a discount card. Look for the Add to Apple Wallet button in your email or website.

After you pay with Apple Pay and provide your rewards card information, your iPhone may ask you to add your card as a rewards card. Swipe a notification, then tap Add.

Using a discount card. When you're asked to provide your loyalty card information (and the Apple Pay logo appears), double-click the side button, swipe to select the payment card you want, then hold Apple Watch close to the contactless terminal so that the watch display is a few inches away from the terminal.

The discount card information will be listed along with your credit or debit card information if the store supports this feature.

Some stores require you to provide a discount card separately from your credit or debit card. Follow the cashier's instructions when paying.

Use your rewards card through Apple Pay without making a purchase. Double-click the side button, swipe to get to your rewards card, then hold your Apple Watch near the terminal.

Using Wallet for passes and tickets

With Wallet on Apple Watch, you can keep your passes, including boarding passes, tickets, loyalty cards, and more, in one place. Cards in Wallet on iPhone automatically sync with Apple Watch (if you've turned on iPhone Repeat in the Apple Watch app). Scan your card on Apple Watch to check in for a flight, go to a movie, or redeem a coupon. To set preferences for your cards on Apple Watch, open the Apple Watch app on iPhone and choose My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay.

How to add a pass. Follow the instructions in the letter you received from the card company, open its program and tap “Add” in the notification.

Using the card. If Apple Watch prompts you to use a map, tap it to display the map. You may need to scroll the screen to find the barcode. Or open Wallet, select a card, then hold the barcode to the terminal.

Change the order of cards. Open Wallet on iPhone and drag cards to arrange them in the order you want. Maps will appear in the new order on Apple Watch as well.

Don't need the card anymore? Remove the card on iPhone. Open Wallet, select a card, tap , then tap Remove.

The Apple Wallet application is an electronic replacement for the usual wallet. You can store your bank and discount cards in it, and also use them at any time when paying at the checkout in stores. Today we will take a closer look at how to use this application.

For those users who do not have NFC on their iPhone, the contactless payment function is not available in Apple Wallet. However, this program can be used as a wallet for storing discount cards and using them before paying for a purchase. If you own an iPhone 6 or newer, you can additionally link debit and credit cards and completely forget about your wallet - payments for services, goods and electronic payments will be made using Apple Pay.

Adding a bank card

To link a debit or credit card to Vallet, your bank must support Apple Pay. If necessary, you can obtain the required information on the bank’s website or by calling the support service.

Adding a discount card

Unfortunately, not all discount cards can be added to the application. And you can add a card in one of the following ways:

  • Follow the link received in the SMS message;
  • Follow the link received in the email;
  • Scanning a QR code that has a mark "Add to Wallet";
  • Registration through the app store;
  • Automatically add a discount card after paying with Apple Pay in the store.

Let's look at the principle of adding a discount card using the Lenta store as an example; it has an official application in which you can link an existing card or create a new one.

Pay for goods using Apple Pay

  1. To pay at the checkout for goods and services, launch Vallet on your smartphone, and then tap on the desired card.
  2. To continue payment, you will need to verify your identity using your fingerprint or facial recognition. If one of these two methods fails to log in, enter the password code for the lock screen.
  3. If authorization is successful, a message will appear on the screen "Bring the device to the terminal". At this moment, touch the smartphone body to the reader and hold for a couple of moments until you hear a characteristic sound signal from the terminal, indicating a successful payment. At this moment a message will appear on the screen "Ready", which means the phone can be put away.
  4. To quickly launch Apple Pay, you can use the button "Home". To configure this feature, open "Settings" and then go to the section "Wallet and Apple Pay".
  5. In the next window, activate the option "Double Press Home".
  6. If you have several bank cards linked, in the block "Default payment options" Choose a section "Map", and then select which one will be displayed first.
  7. Lock your smartphone, and then double-click on the button "Home". The default map will be launched on the screen. If you plan to make a transaction using it, log in using Touch ID or Face ID and bring the device to the terminal.
  8. If you plan to make the payment using another card, select it from the list below and then go through verification.

Removing a card

If necessary, any bank or discount card can be removed from Wallet.

Apple Wallet is an application that really simplifies the life of every iPhone owner. This tool provides not only the ability to pay for goods, but also secure payments.
