Application of acrylic paints on fabric. Paint for drawing on clothes

You will need

  • inkjet printer, special fabric paper, large sheet of newspaper to protect the work surface, fabric paints, palette, sponge or brushes for painting, strong cardboard, stencil, hoop.

Instruction

The fabric (clothing) must be washed and ironed before applying the pattern so that the colors are well absorbed and the sticker sticks well.

To apply with thermal printing, find a suitable image or create it yourself using Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw graphics editors. Use the Preview feature to get a better idea of what the drawing will look like. Print the image on an inkjet printer on a special film - TTS for white or OBM for dark and color.

Carefully cut off the excess around the pattern with scissors. Remove excess thermal film with a needle. Place the pattern on the fabric with thermal film, cover with gauze or a thin cloth on top and iron it for about 15 seconds. Remove the film.

In order for the image on the fabric, lay it on a work surface so as not to stain it with paints. Lay out the fabric. If it's clothing, put heavy cardboard inside so the paint doesn't seep through and smudge the other side. Fix the product on the work surface with adhesive tape.

Place a stencil on the fabric, secure it with safety pins or tape. Carefully read the instructions that come with the paints. If required, use the palette. Pick up paint on a sponge or brush and carefully outline the contours of the stencil. If you have spray paints in cans, then it is better to protect the fabric around the stencil with newspaper. Remove the stencil carefully after drawing. Do not remove the cardboard until the paint is completely dry. You may be using paints that are fixed with a hot iron - in this case, follow the instructions.

There is a way to apply a pattern to the fabric using a hoop. Transfer the design to the fabric using white transfer paper or felt-tip pens. Hoop the fabric and paint it with white paint around the design to create a dense base. When the substrate dries, paint the picture - first dark shades, then light ones. A day later, after complete drying, iron the fabric from the wrong side with an iron to secure the pattern.

It’s nice to turn ordinary things “like everyone else”, with a little effort, into your own, cozy, personalized. A good way is to decorate them with an original pattern. And even if you consistently skipped art lessons at school, and you draw a little worse than a fifth grader, it doesn’t matter. This simple method will allow at least all the textiles and wooden surfaces in the house to be decorated with funny drawings. And please your friends with original gifts.

The authors of a resource popular among designers shutterstock offer to try a simple home printing technology. It is available to every owner. laser printer. Or someone who is not too lazy to go to the nearest copy center and print the desired drawing. This method will allow you to easily transfer the image to a fabric or wooden surface.

You will need:
Acetone (or a nail polish remover based on it);
Cotton pads;
Plastic card;
Scotch;
Ruler;
T-shirt/fabric/wooden surface on which the pattern will be transferred;
desired image.

Step 1: print the picture on laser printer in a mirror version. An inkjet printer is a bad helper in this matter, because. does not guarantee even distribution of ink, which will be displayed on the final result. The darker the original image, the better.

Step 2: put down the sheet face down on a fabric or wood surface. It is advisable to fix it on one side with tape so that the picture does not “leave”. Soak a cotton pad or brush in acetone and carefully wipe the back of the pattern so that the paper becomes wet.

Step 3: take a plastic card and use it like a scraper to go all over the back of the picture. It's like you're rubbing it. First from bottom to top, then from top to bottom, repeat several times. Press the "scraper" lightly so as not to tear the print. The main rule is that all this time the paper with the image should be wet with acetone. This will help the pattern to adhere to the fabric or wood.

Step 4: gently pull the edge of the sheet with the image and evaluate how the “printing” process goes. When the drawing is completely transferred, remove the paper.

Fashion for creative pictures and catchy inscriptions on T-shirts never goes away. It changes, popularizes: either cartoon characters, or comic book characters, or life-affirming phrases, or quotes from famous people, but the essence remains the same - something unusual that draws attention to clothes. A great alternative to the repeatedly reproduced version of the print on things from the mass market will be drawings on T-shirts with your own hands. This is an opportunity to choose a base of any quality and color, and express your individuality. A hand-painted T-shirt can become the owner's calling card or a great gift for a significant event.

How to print with acrylic paints?

A durable drawing at home can be applied using the method of cold or hot batik, felt-tip pens for fabric, aerosol cans, using decals, but acrylic is the most reliable and popular. There are several ways to print with acrylic paints:

  • Copying a drawing from paper. This method does not require special artistic talents, only accuracy. The drawing can be done by hand or printed on a printer. All outlines must be a dark color that can be seen through the fabric of the T-shirt. For convenience, it is better to glue the finished drawing on thick cardboard, evenly pull the T-shirt over it and fix it around the edges with pins. Next, you need to carefully outline the contours with a simple pencil or felt-tip pens on the fabric, and proceed to fill in with color;

  • Drawing on fabric by hand. This is a technique for self-confident, which gives more room for imagination. You can pre-draw the contours, or you can immediately start working with paints, creating a work of art on your T-shirt. The method is more suitable for light materials, and those cases where some negligence in the drawing is acceptable;

  • Stencil application. The easiest way to guarantee a good result. Stencil drawing is convenient because the picture can be copied many times on T-shirts, for example, for the whole family, the KVN school team, competition uniforms, or just a group of like-minded people who want to be recognizable in the crowd. To make the picture look more interesting, you can superimpose stencils of different sizes on top of each other, change the angle of inclination and colors;

  • Screen printing. Designed for complex drawings of several colors. It is applied with special ink and screen printing mesh, roller and other tools. This method is not suitable for beginners.

screen painting

Of all these methods, screen painting is the most common. It is simple to perform, economical in time and satisfactory in terms of results.

To paint, you will need: a cotton T-shirt, a stencil or cardboard for it, acrylic paints, a small dye roller, a tray for diluting paints, gloves, scissors or a stationery knife, masking tape, an iron.

The procedure is carried out step by step:

  • Wash. Many people want to skip this step, but it must be done. Acrylic paints work best on cotton, and cotton tends to shrink when washed. The drawing will not shrink with the size of the T-shirt, it will deform, and the work will be spoiled along with the T-shirt and the gift of translated materials.

After washing, the T-shirt must be well dried and ironed so that the base for the pattern is as even as possible;

  • Stencil blank. While the T-shirt is drying, there is time to apply the design on thin cardboard. You need to cut out the contours very carefully, without notches, otherwise the edge of the pattern on the fabric will turn out to be uneven. For the first attempt, you can buy a stencil in a store or stick a printout from the Internet on cardboard;

  • Work surface preparation. A flat, hard surface, such as a desk or coffee table, is suitable for drawing a picture. All the necessary tools are placed nearby, from the side of the working hand. Acrylic is hard to wash off, so it is better to cover the table with old newspapers, and start the creative process in old clothes;

  • T-shirt preparation. A clean, ironed thing must be placed on the work surface, straightened out so that there are no wrinkles and irregularities. It is recommended to put a thick layer of paper or cardboard inside so that the acrylic does not print on both sides of the T-shirt, if this is not the idea. Next, a stencil is applied to the T-shirt. To keep it in place during painting, the edges must be glued with paper tape;

  • Dilution of paints. To prevent acrylic from drying out ahead of time, pour the desired color into the tray or mix it from several different ones immediately before application. In order for the paint to lay flat, the roller must be evenly saturated with acrylic. To do this, it is dipped several times in the tray until it gets a little heavier, and then a test smear is made on a piece of paper. If the layer is dense, you can start painting;

  • Drawing drawing. With confident movements horizontally and vertically, “roll up” the stencil with a roller. You can go beyond the edges of the picture, but not over the edges of the paper; It will not be superfluous to apply a second coat of paint. When it dries a little, you can remove the stencil and leave the drawing to dry completely;

  • thermal effect. The ink will set better if you iron the fresh print with a hot iron through a thin cotton towel. After that, the T-shirt can be worn and washed. The first few times it is recommended to do this in cold water on your hands, and the next - in a typewriter with other things.

How to create an abstraction?

A boring old t-shirt can be revived with an unusual space print. Drawing planet stencils is not required for this, all you need is a T-shirt, acrylic, gloves, bleach in a spray bottle and a few brushes.

If the T-shirt is new, it must first be washed and dried. The old one must be clean and ironed. Abstraction is best applied to fabrics of bright or dark colors; it will not look so impressive on white and light colors.

The drawing process begins with the preparation of the working surface, in this case, the floor. It should be located away from the walls so as not to splatter them with paint, and carefully cover the creative area with newspapers. Then you can start working materials.

First of all, you need to dilute a small amount of bleach with water in a spray bottle, prepare brushes and bottles of paint of your preferred colors.

From an arm's length, apply a bleach solution to the T-shirt, wait until it changes color and dries. Then, opening the paints, alternately dipping the brush in different colors, spray them on a T-shirt. Very small details are more convenient to work out with a toothbrush, spraying a fine layer of paint directly over the fabric.

If desired, you can repeat the procedure with the second side of the product after the print on the front side is completely dry.

Drawing in knot technique

Knot technique is inherently a kind of batik. The main difference from traditional painting on fabric is that as a reserve (a substance that separates one color fragment from another, preventing the colors from mixing), not a special adhesive solution is used, but threads, ropes and plaits.

With the help of threads, knots of different sizes are fixed on the fabric, which are lowered into the paint. As a result, the paint fills only the fragment that is separated by threads, and diverges in beautiful “rays” along the creases in the fabric.

Making knots is pretty easy. There are no patterns and special rules, the fabric can be folded and bandaged at your discretion. The main thing is to decide how big or small the colored fragments will be, and carefully separate one from the other with the help of threads or string.

It is better to take white threads so that they do not shed during dyeing. Of course, this can give an additional element of decor, but it can also spoil the whole idea.

In addition to threads, buttons and pebbles are often used to fill one or another piece of fabric so that the paint lies more interesting.

Nodular staining is performed in stages.

Training

The first stage is the choice of fabric and its preliminary preparation. Batik is applied to cotton, silk or wool products; the preferred color is white. Depending on the idea, before tying the knots, you can apply splashes, stripes, stains or patterns to the T-shirt.

Node formation

The second stage is the most important. It depends on how the drawing will turn out in the end. After twisting the fabric in a certain way and tying knots, you can get circles, flowers, stripes, or you can make them arbitrarily, and then the pattern will be unpredictable and original.

Filling Nodes with Color

The third stage involves the choice of staining method. The most reliable is to lower the knots one by one in a container of boiling colored water. This method guarantees the penetration of paint into all layers of the fabric and gives the effect of flowing from one color to another.

The fastest is the use of spray paint. For a lasting effect, it is enough just to spray it on the texture of the fabric for a few seconds, but there is a risk that the knot will not be completely dyed.

The longest and most costly in terms of materials, but also the most beautiful as a result, is the use of pure paint. If you want smooth and soft transitions, the knot must be moistened before dipping it into the paint. If a bright, rich ornament is a priority, the T-shirt fabric can be left dry. So, to paint a t-shirt with clean paint, first of all, decide on the colors of your future t-shirt, put them in molds and dilute with a little warm water.

It is important to observe the proportions of paint and water. If the ink ratio is greater, then the color of the pattern on the T-shirt will turn out to be more saturated. But at the same time, it is not necessary to make the solution very thick, otherwise it will lead to coarsening of the tissue. The solution should not be too watery either, as this will lead to loss of color when the T-shirt dries.

Then we proceed directly to the coloring of the T-shirt. We take a syringe, draw a solution into it and begin to squeeze the solution onto a T-shirt.

The more knots and colors involved, the more interesting the print will turn out.

fixing the paint

When the product has dried, it must be ironed through a thin fabric without a pattern, so the paint will better fix and last longer.

Fifth stage final. It is optional, but nevertheless, you should not skip it. The knot technique requires the use of a large amount of dye, which can begin to wash out during the first wash. To prevent this from happening, a day after fixing the paint, the T-shirt must be moistened and rinsed in running water, washing out the excess amount of acrylic. After that, the product is ready to be worn and washed along with other things.

Master class on painting at home

Drawing a picture on things with your own hands is a time-consuming process, but not difficult. The classic version on a white T-shirt is performed as follows: drawing a pattern, contouring, filling with color, fixing the paint with an iron.

How to make drawings on clothes without thermal paper? You can buy expensive felt-tip pens for painting on fabric, but you can get by with cheaper ones.
Here, for example, I want to make a drawing with ordinary permanent felt-tip pens or wax pencils. But how to fix the pattern on the fabric so that it does not blur after washing? I tried a variety of adhesives, sealants, acrylic varnishes for this and this master class turned out as a result.
So, one day I decided to draw a finch.
First of all, I transferred the sketch of the bird to my eye with a thin red permanent marker.

Then I had to circle the drawing with a thin black marker, since the red color turned out to be too faded - this was the calculation: you can correct the flaws in the drawing, if anything.
Next, I put a newspaper inside the T-shirt and painted the body of the bird with wax pencils, and then went over the top with thick felt-tip pens.
This was done so that the oil wax pencils played their water-repellent role and prevented the felt-tip pens from spreading over the fabric.
Also, permanent markers, unlike felt-tip pens, spread less and give a color transition from one to another - which is visible on the feathers of the wings - unlike acrylic paints.

Now it's time to fix our drawing!

The photo shows what kind of sealant was used - transparent silicone, without additives, brand "Novbytchim", was bought in a building supplies store. The sealant is applied exclusively with fingers and smeared evenly over the pattern, and a little behind the pattern for secure fastening. Then you need to wait half an hour to dry and walk with a hot iron to make the surface smoother. It is better to put a newspaper inside the T-shirt so that the silicone does not crack from the temperature. And voila!

Now painting on fabric has become a popular hobby. This is a real art, thanks to which you can give clothes, shoes, textiles and other products originality and beauty. It is best to make drawings with acrylic paints - they are of the highest quality and allow you to get the perfect result. There are different painting techniques that needlewomen should familiarize themselves with.

Properties and features of acrylic dyes

Acrylic for drawing is one of the types, a polymer composition that does not penetrate the fibers, but covers them from the outside. Acrylic colors are available in a rich range of colors, easy to mix with each other, allowing you to get unique shades. Since such staining is not afraid of moisture, it can even be done on jackets, raincoats, raincoats, not to mention jeans, scarves, bags, T-shirts. Hand painting with acrylic looks great on tablecloths, panels. It is not recommended to draw at home on these types of things:

  • underwear - there is a risk of allergies;
  • bed linen - due to frequent washing, it quickly sheds;
  • dry-cleaned products - due to possible damage to the pattern;
  • things for young children attending kindergarten - there is a high risk of allergies in babies.

Acrylic is ideal for beginners. Finished canvases dry quickly, and the price of paints is low - there is an opportunity to experiment. Other properties of acrylic dyes are as follows:

  • there are no harmful chemicals in the composition - there are plant or artificial resins, pigments, water, plasticizers, binders for uniform consistency;
  • in texture, the paint resembles tempera, which is used to paint icons, but dries much faster and creates a protective film on the surface (the latter is so strong that things can be washed in a washing machine, rolled up, and stored for a long time);
  • after applying paint to the fabric, its fibers become denser, but this area of \u200b\u200bthe matter loses its elasticity;
  • over time, the quality of acrylic deteriorates, so paints should only be used during their normal shelf life.

Acrylic colors are diluted with water, but experts prefer the use of special solvents. Such substances help to make the images glossy, and with the introduction of water, the picture will become matte. To fix the paints, it is better to use dry heat - to walk over the fabric with an iron. You can buy colors in art stores, there is also additional equipment (brushes, palettes, templates, stencils).

Suitable fabric

Do-it-yourself coloring is easy. It is important to choose a fabric suitable for this so that it matches the type of dye. The choice of matter also depends on the technique of painting things. So, hot batik involves the use of natural fabrics - cotton, linen, wool, viscose, denim. This method allows you to dye only such fibers, and artificial ones will remain in their original color. Therefore, mixed materials are not recommended.

"Silk" marking on paint

If there is such a designation on the color scheme, then there is no increase in the stiffness of the fabric, therefore the product is suitable even for thin matter. You can use similar dyes for silk, chiffon, cambric. Most of the fabrics listed respond well to the cold batik technique.

Textile pointer on paint

Such colors are suitable for hard, dense fabrics - suede, leather, furniture fabrics. For dark textiles, you should choose dyes with an appropriate mark.

Types of painting with acrylic paints

Only a clean cloth or thing should be dyed, therefore, before starting work, it is washed, then thoroughly dried and ironed. In some painting techniques, it is required to stretch the material on a special frame (for needlewomen it is called a hoop), although you can make any convenient device yourself. The fabric for work is laid out in a well-lit place, while the dyeing area should be in the center.

hot batik

For hot coloring, natural dyes used to be used - Indian henna, tea, turmeric and even potassium permanganate, but now there are many more resistant, high-quality colors on sale. For hot batik, melted wax is used, which allows you to get structured images with different combinations of shades.

The meaning of the technique is that after removing it, a lighter or darker pattern remains under the wax, or even a white picture. To apply wax, chanting is used - a tool that applies original wax patterns. It looks like a small vessel with several spouts and a handle.

For hot batik, you should first prepare the wax mixture. It is sold ready-made or made by hand from pine resin, paraffin, beeswax, fat, dammar resin. Beginners are advised to first try melted wax from a regular candle on the fabric to practice.

The order of work is as follows:

  • prepare a drawing project - draw a picture on paper or print it on a printer;
  • transfer the drawing to the fabric in any convenient way (dot technique, through tracing paper, carbon paper, etc.);
  • grease the places of the drawing that should be left unpainted with hot wax, let it dry completely (the stain should be transparent and dark, but not white and matte);
  • pour the fabric with a dye solution, hold for the right time;
  • remove wax;
  • if necessary, cover the already painted areas with new wax, and paint the light spot with a different color;
  • repeat the cycle until the desired combinations are obtained (up to black).

You need to remove the wax with paper and an iron, heating the cloth and carefully separating the substance. This technique is time-consuming, so it is better to first look at the master class on the Internet.

The difference between this technique and the “hot” technique is that instead of wax, a special substance is used that does not allow color to pass through. The second name of cold batik is reservation, and the compositions are called reserve.

First, the drawing is circled with this substance, then other parts of the fabric are painted over with paint. The outlines keep the ink from flowing onto the image. After complete drying of the matter, the reserve composition is removed. As a result, contrast (vital) staining is provided. The easiest way is to tint products using this technique using ready-made stencils.

Knotted batik

You can also paint the fabric using the nodular technique, as a result, unexpected effects and original patterns are obtained. They are formed due to small nodules that are unevenly stained. Novice needlewomen and artists are encouraged to use this type of batik. Dresses, tablecloths, napkins, T-shirts are especially successful.

The order of work is this:

  • make a free painting on the background (if required);
  • dry the thing, lay out the pebbles on it, tie them with threads into knots (according to the idea);
  • twist the entire fabric tightly on 2 sides, fold in 2-3 layers, tie again with threads;
  • lower into a container with paint, hold for the right time;
  • take out, dry the product.

Shibori technique

This method is a kind of nodular batik. The only difference is that the fabric is folded in a certain way, reminiscent of origami. Also, the technique involves the use of additional effects - sprinkling salt, spraying alcohol.

free painting

The technique resembles the usual painting of fabric with watercolor or gouache. On matter, as a result, you can get a real picture or individual drawings, details. Here, the talent of the artist is fully manifested, because it will not work to make a painting according to the template. To prevent the paint from flowing, the fabric is pre-soaked in a saline solution for 2-3 hours. For successful prescribing of shades, the use of reserving compositions is allowed. If they are not there, it is better to pre-prime the fabric:

  • mix equally gelatin, PVA, starch;
  • apply to the fabric with a brush;
  • dry, but not completely;
  • start work.

A variety of free painting is raw painting. It gives the effect of flowing from one color to another, gives a feeling of airiness. Drawing is performed on wet fabric without the use of stencil technique (without templates). You can not only make brush strokes, but also blow the paint through a straw for a cocktail, then giving the drops the desired shape.

Painting with an airbrush

For this method of staining, you will need a device for spraying paint - an airbrush. By changing the angle of application, you can get a variety of shades. To use airbrushing, you need to have certain artistic skills.

The history of the emergence of batik technology

Batik is hundreds of years old. Over time, the technique became more complicated, improved and had its own characteristics in different countries. Indonesia is considered the birthplace of batik, but the first description of the method was made in Holland in the 17th century. Very ancient fabric samples were found in Egypt - they were made around the 5th century. Batik in ancient times was common in Japan, China and other Asian countries, and in the Middle Ages it became incredibly popular with European artists.

Prints with acrylic paints - execution

The most reliable method of creating an original thing is staining with acrylic colors. You can apply a variety of methods of applying paints.

Copying a design from paper

In this case, you do not need to be an artist to create masterpieces. It is enough to be careful to clearly outline the pattern on the fabric. It is printed on a printer, making the contours bold, dark (otherwise they will not be visible through the fabric). Next, the thing is stretched onto cardboard or a sheet of plywood, an embossed pattern is placed between the layers, fixed with pins, the drawing is circled with a simple pencil or a special marker for matter. After that, you can start drawing the image with paints.

Drawing on fabric by hand

If you have artistic abilities and imagination, you can make a drawing without a template, manually. Professionals work directly with paints, it is better for a beginner to first draw the outlines with a simple pencil. This method is especially good if some lightness, negligence in the picture is expected.

Stencil application

Stencils are sold in specialized stores in large quantities. It is very convenient to use this technique if you need to repeatedly copy the same drawing (team uniform, napkins, etc.). The stencil is applied to the fabric, fixed with pins, paper clips and outlined with paints.

Screen printing

It is used to create complex drawings, multi-color images. The method involves the use of special ink and screen printing nets, a roller and other tools will also be required. It is better to give the product to the workshop, where all the work will be done efficiently.

In order for fabric-based painting to be “excellent”, you should follow a number of important tips and recommendations:

  • purchase only high-quality paints in specialized stores (too cheap colors can be fake);
  • pay attention to the expiration date - it should be normal;
  • get acquainted with the composition of paints - if they are good, they do not contain toxic components, heavy metals, there is no unpleasant odor;
  • before painting a large canvas, do a color test on a small area, evaluate the work after the paint has completely dried;
  • for work, use brushes with synthetic bristles, rollers, sponges;
  • apply each new layer after the previous one has dried;
  • after a day, fix the pattern with an iron - iron it for at least 5 minutes;
  • high-quality products do not blur on matter, are resistant, do not collapse from water after solidification.

For washing use only non-aggressive surfactants and water with temperatures up to 35-40 degrees. It is strictly forbidden to use bleaches that destroy the paint. It is better to wash small items by hand, do not wring them out, do not twist them, but carefully hang them on the back of a chair to dry.

Large items are washed in the machine, including the delicate mode. Subject to these simple rules, clothes or other products will last a long time without loss of color and quality.
