City of lagos portugal. What are some interesting places to visit in Lagos? Old Town - the cultural center of Lagos

With this post, I fill in the blank on Portugal, the trip to which took place in August last year. I will try to help those who have not yet chosen a place where they will spend their summer vacation and tell you in detail about the rest on the Portuguese coast of the Algarve in its resort capital - the city Lagos.

Not everyone likes, like the lightning man to me, to drive along the coast in a rented car, albeit in the most beautiful places. Most have neither the opportunity nor the desire for such a format of recreation.

For such tourists in the Portuguese Algarve there are two most famous cities - two tourist capitals of local importance, Lagos and Albufeira. We visited both resort capitals, and if I was going on vacation with my mother-in-law, wife, nanny and three young children, I chose the classic format of recreation, I would choose Lagos which I'm going to talk about.

Lagos- an ancient port and very pretty city with more than 2000 years of history. How it looked before, we will not know, in 1755 Portugal was shaken by an earthquake and a tsunami that destroyed most of the historical beauty on the coast.

How to find budget apartments or hotels in Lagos

I prefer the old city. In his favor - approximately the same distance from city beaches, the beautiful center of Lagos, enhanced by several attractions and an evening promenade along the promenade.

Cheap accommodation or hotels in Lagos Room Guru (Hotels Combined)- a search engine that I use myself. The advantage of the service is that it compares the prices of dozens of booking systems - it remains to choose the best offer for the price. In each article or report, I give links only to those hotels in which I stayed and which I liked.

I liked the hotel near the most beautiful local beach Dona Ana, Hotel Carvi Beach Hotel. View of the rocks, a beautiful beach a stone's throw away. In addition, another beautiful place is within a five-minute availability. Ponta Piedada

Another option - luxury hotels on the waterfront from booking. Forget about them, don't spend money on them, they look much better in the photo than in real life. There is no special view from the windows either.

The most budget accommodation– campsite on the outskirts of the city Lagos. It's called Lagos Camping Trindade and is located next to the cape and beautiful rocks Pontada Piedade, there is a beach.

Address: Lagos Camping Trindade, Estrada da Ponta da Piedade, 8600

Expensive hotels are closer to the waterfront, in the center there are hostels and inexpensive hotels, so backpackers with suitcases are absolutely fine here.

We walk around the city of Lagos (Lagos)

The right morning begins with the city market, you hardly have to buy something, but it’s definitely worth looking at what else was floundering in the ocean today. At least in order to know what to order for lunch at local restaurants.

Market almost the only place where you can feel the city, except for the local bus station. It is located right on the embankment, there are mostly locals who are engaged in their grocery and economic affairs. No ostentatiously beautiful stalls, the most interesting thing here is the fish rows and local merchants.

Before the heat has driven to the luxurious ocean beaches, you can have time to see what has survived after the destructive work of mother nature. We must pay tribute to the restorers and builders of all generations, thanks to them, today's Lagos- an attraction in itself, a very cute old Portuguese resort town.

The temple is right next to the market. San Sebastian, it is good because its observation deck offers the best view of the city, I won’t show pictures, we were too lazy to climb up and left a reason for the next visit.

The classic tourist classic sights without any irony, I myself like to walk around old churches or look at the city from a height. Church of Santa Maria, almost on the embankment, a fountain and an almost deserted square, no wonder - August, 70 percent on the beach, the rest in local bars.

Next to the church on the waterfront is a fort and the remains of a city fortress. We go in rather for show, we don’t want to go inside, we have already seen a couple of such miracles. From the fort there are good views of the coast, but in Lagos full of free viewing places, from which the views are not worse than in the plots of National Geographic and completely free, which is important, there is lunch ahead.

Where are the restaurants in Lagos? Where to eat delicious food in Lagos? The answer is simple - on the streets adjacent to the embankment the Bensafine River, a little on the narrow streets adjacent to the center and a lot on the main tourist April 25 street.

It is more expensive there, but look for places where locals dine in Lagos it's not worth it Lisbon. Almost all places here are touristic, prices too. So accept that you will part with 25-30 euros for a dinner for two and enjoy. If you want to dine twice cheaper - come in the low season, at least in February, the prices will pleasantly surprise you.

Places to dine in Lagos a lot, basically all of them are touristic. Therefore, I will not recommend anything specific.

Except, at the end April 25 streets can recommend Cafe Bon Vivant, it is red in the photo. A good selection of drinks, an unusual interior and, most importantly, an open area on the roof, from there a beautiful view of the street.

Terrace on the roof of the bar, we came in the morning, it was still closed - but we were welcome.

Bar and view from the site to the street April 25

There are such boring tourist restaurants that look like a canteen. Right in the alley, so that the head does not bake. On the street solid +34 Celsius. Most likely designed for organized groups of pensioners from England.

Another one, St. Anthony's Church is in the old center Lagos, bristling with ancient spiers-towers and perfectly copes with its decorative role for most tourists, adding coziness to narrow winding streets.

The main attractions of Lagos– the ocean, beautiful rocks and beaches. Let's go for Ponta Piedada- a cape and an observation deck on which there is a lighthouse and the so-called "first rocks". In our case, let's go, but you can walk in about half an hour - there is a place on the outskirts Lagos.

Here you can spend half a day, swim around the rocks on a boat or sit at the top enjoying the view. Near the lighthouse there is free parking for cars, we leave the car, go down the wooden stairs and take an hour walk through the grottoes, underwater caves and picturesque rocks. The price is 25 euros for two.

The second most beautiful place in LagosDona Ana beach, in July-August there are quite a lot of people. Nearby there are a couple of hotels and unfinished, long-term construction, I already wrote about this above. The beauty of the beach and the views from the hotel make up for minor imperfections.

Sunbathing and swimming Dona Ana beach better before lunch, and photographing - in the late afternoon. And even then, the sun seems to be going along the sea, by 17.00 the rocks are already half in the shade.

Beaches in the city Lagos several, so it's good. On the opposite side of Dona Ana beach there is a long sandy city Meia Praia beach. You can get there by car, or you can walk - just cross the bridge from the embankment.

This long sandy beach is more suitable for lovers of a classic beach holiday, there are no waves, a gentle entry into the water and warm water. And it's one of the warmest beaches on the planet. Algarve coast for which it is loved by couples with children or simply not too active tourists.

Other beaches near Lagos. There are a lot of them, but if you choose the most beautiful, then this Praia do Marinha. I wrote about it in detail. here. Or choose the appropriate option from list of the best beaches in the Algarve . But this requires a car and it will be a completely different format of recreation or travel, whatever.

What to see in the vicinity of Lagos (Lagos) or where to go for the whole day

First, it is a neighboring town of LagoaLagoa) , we just lived in its vicinity. There is more local color and a couple of good local wine shops. One of them can be found in the very center, the choice and prices are more pleasant than in a highly touristy Lagos.

In addition to the liquor store, take a walk through the narrow and completely deserted the streets of Lagoa, it is crowded here only in the morning on weekdays, when people go to work or to the market. For those who are tired of the crowds and fuss - a must.

The local market is also worth a visit, but in the morning, of course.

AT Lagoa much more than the real Portugal than in Lagos. The city is located about seven kilometers from the ocean, which for some reason the locals call the sea. Nearest Carvoeiro beach not bad, but interesting to those tourists who have not read my posts about Portugal and therefore chose it as a place to relax. The place is rather dull, besides the beach is very small.

Near Lagos, close to Lagoa there is a town Silves (Silves) without which a walk around the neighborhood Lagos will be incomplete. AT Silves there is a cathedral and an ancient Arab fortress.
The cathedral is like a cathedral, and the fortress will be of interest only to those who are interested in the Arab period of history Portugal or those who in Europe traveling for the first time. If you decide, and if you have time, you can spend a couple of hours. For us, a small consolation was the figs, which grew abundantly in the courtyard of the fortress. You can safely tear it and eat it with impunity and for free. You won't want to dine after it - a guarantee.

15 minutes drive from Lagoa- village Ferragudo if you're lucky you can see a beautiful glowing sky over the ancient city center and take a walk along the river bank, in any case, get a visual pleasure, at least.

Once again, you can interrupt your beach vacation by going to the extreme southwestern point of Europe - Cape Sagres (Vila do Bispo). It's a little over half an hour by bus, taxi or car.

If the soul asks for various activities, such as kayaking, boat trips, horseback riding or cycling, then you promenade of Lagos. Local helpers will solve all your tourist problems, they sit in small booths that are evenly spaced along the entire embankment.

A short review about the holiday in Lagos

Choice of several beautiful and convenient beaches, city sights in the old town Lagos, warm Climate Algarve, easily accessible from Lisbon or Faro by bus, train or car, excellent tourist infrastructure, average European prices. With such initial data, the average tourist feels comfortable and gets a full-fledged summer vacation for reasonable money for his money. Lagos self-sufficient tourist center and, as for me, is convenient for those tourists who do not use a rented car on vacation and do not want to make unnecessary movements.

How to find budget accommodation in Lagos

Cheap accommodation or hotels in Lagos can be found through the booking system Hotels Combined, a service I use myself. The advantage of the service is that it compares the prices of dozens of booking systems - you just have to choose the best offer. In every article or report I give hotel links in which I lived and which I liked.

Lagos is located in the western part of the Algarve province. It differs from other resorts in that it is interesting for tourists of all ages. It is of Celtic origin and has been known as Lakobridge for over 2000 years. Then a port settlement arose at the mouth of the Bensafrim River. In the 10th century, the Arab conquerors surrounded the city, but already in 1249, the city was in the power of the Christians. The city began to develop and became a kind of center of trade, attracting many bankers and merchants. Moreover, these were not only the Portuguese, but also citizens of other countries. It is with their wealth that the construction of chic houses and temples of the city is connected. The city port played a significant role in the era of the Great Geographical Discoveries. It was from the port of Lagos that many expeditions were sent in search of new lands on the orders of Prince Henry the Navigator. Vasco de Gama also went on his expedition from this port. There is historical evidence that it was the inhabitants of Lagos who saved the famous Christopher Columbus after the shipwreck, who at that time had not yet discovered America. And in 1578 there was an unsuccessful attempt by the pirate Francis Drake to capture the city. The inhabitants decided not to give him the wealth of Lagos to plunder and gave him a resolute rebuff.

For almost two centuries, Lagos was the capital of the Algarve. Several buildings have been preserved from this period of metropolitan life. First of all, this is the first slave market in Europe built in the middle of the 15th century, the golden church of St. Anthony and the fortress walls, which were restored. These fortifications still surround the old part of the city. And also the fort of Ponta de Banddeira, located on Batata beach, has been preserved. Behind the fort is the Gate of Saint Gonzalo, which has a watchtower. And next to it is the Governor's Castle. This is a very beautiful building in traditional Arabic style. In Praça Infanto, there is a monument to Prince Enrique, who, as it were, looks at the sea horizon. Also on the square is the Temple of Igreia da Santa Maria. It was built in the 15th-16th centuries, but it was decided to restore it in the 18th-19th centuries. You can get to the golden church of St. Anthony through the museum, they are both very interesting. In general, there are a lot of museums in Lagos, and this is not surprising knowing the history of the city. Moreover, they are all different directions. Another church of St. Sebastian is worthy of attention. It offers a very beautiful view of the bay. And this is in addition to its architectural and historical value.

And all these sights tourists can see without interruption from modern life. After all, many interesting events are constantly taking place in Lagos. Praça Gil de Ins, which is located in the city center, is especially famous for this. After all, every evening there is either a medieval fair or a concert on it. In general, in the city center there is such a feature that it is quite confusing, despite its small size. This is all thanks to the structure of the streets.
But almost everywhere on them you can find many shops, shops and cafes.

Another local attraction that attracts tourists is the market. On it you can buy fruits, vegetables, nuts, honey and much more. And separately there is also a fish market, where there is also a fairly large selection of seafood.

For beach lovers, Lagos is also expanse.
For example, Meia Praia beach has a very wide coastline and, if desired, you can also rent a villa there. And next to the Salem beach, by the way, you can still see the ancient Roman buildings at the same time.

And also entertainment will be found for outdoor enthusiasts. They offer sea safaris with the search for dolphins, hiking, quad biking and much more.

I want to say that Lagos is a unique Portuguese settlement where history has merged with modernity and it all looks very natural.

The city of Lagos is a famous seaport in the south of Portugal. It is located on the shores of the bay of the same name, not far from the place where the Bensafrin River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Lagos and Lisbon are separated by 184 km.

A bit of history

The history of this city in Portugal has more than two thousand years. Initially, the Carthaginians lived here, united with the Celts during the Punic Wars. After the colonization of the settlement by the Romans, Lagos (Portugal) became part of the Roman region of Lusitania. Traces of this period of history are still found not only in the city, but also in the surrounding villages.

Beginning in the sixth century, Lagos passed from the Visigoths to the Byzantines, then to the Moors. It was then that the oldest church of St. John the Baptist appeared in the Algarve region today.

Lagos passed from the Moors under the rule of King Afonso III only in 1241. In 1361, the city acquired a new status and became legally independent. And after King John I in the harbor of Lagos gathered a fleet to conquer Ceuta at the beginning of the 15th century, the city became an important sea harbor. Of particular importance Lagos (Portugal) reached during the Great geographical discoveries (beginning of the 15th century - 17th century). It was from here that the son of Juan I sent many expeditions to the western coast of Africa and Morocco, and the famous navigator Gil Eanesh made a swim for Cape Bojador, refuting the theory that it is the end of the world.

Lagos today

Today, Lagos (Portugal) is a famous resort that attracts travelers from all over the world with its pristine architectural decoration, clean sandy beaches and an extraordinary atmosphere. In this beautiful city, you can stroll through the peaceful streets with stunning architecture, ride around the neighborhood on a bike, moped or even on horseback, sail along the coast on a boat, get to the fort, dine in cozy restaurants, try local confectionery masterpieces, visit famous museums and much more.

Climatic features

The weather in Portugal, namely in this area, is largely determined. In Lagos, the air temperature is always several degrees lower than in other regions. This is also influenced by the Canary currents, which are distinguished by cold.

In summer, the weather in Lagos pleases with warmth. The air temperature for three months is kept at the level of 25-30 degrees, and water - 20-22 degrees. Drought alternates with rainy days. In autumn, the air temperature drops to 20 degrees. In the winter months, it almost never drops below 12 degrees.

architectural landmarks

A lot of the architectural sights of Lagos were destroyed by a powerful earthquake and tsunami in 1755. Nevertheless, to date, a lot of interesting places have still been preserved, which are mandatory points of the excursion program around the city:

  • Castle of Lagos. It is considered the main attraction and impresses with its huge walls, many corridors and rooms, where a large number of secrets and mysteries are hidden. The history of the castle begins in 1174. During this time, he survived several wars and a powerful earthquake. After 1755, the castle was subjected to cosmetic repairs and complex restoration of the walls several times.
  • Monastery of Nossa Señora do Carmo. It was built in the 13th century. At the end of the 18th century, as a result of an earthquake and fire, the library and the church connecting the monastery and the temple of Santa Teresa were badly damaged. Part of the building was restored only at the beginning of the 20th century. The rear rooms are built in the Baroque style, but there are small elements of Gothic and classics in the external decoration. Inside the monastery there is a large number of wood and gold items.
  • Fort Meia Praia. It was built in the Mannerist style and reflects the trends of military architecture. The earthquake completely destroyed the Fort, but by 1796 the local authorities had completely restored it, and in 2009 the attraction was included in the list of official monuments of the country.
  • Church of San Sebastian. One of the oldest architectural structures. In addition to three naves separated by Doric columns and a stunning altar, inside the church you can discover the ancient plan of Lagos. It was only changed at the end of the 19th century. Then a new building was added to the plan - a tower with bells.

natural monuments

  • Divine corner - a cape with a view of the rocks. The beach here is amazing with clear water.
  • Golden grottoes.
  • Laguna de Alvor. Here you can take a boat ride.
  • Baran de Sao Juan National Forest.

Beaches

The beaches are the pride of this city. There are not only a lot of them, but each has its own peculiarity. All the beaches of Lagos can be divided into two categories: open stretched along the coast or closed bays of unusual shapes. What unites them is that almost everyone has a developed infrastructure and is well equipped with facilities for people with disabilities.

Popular beaches include the following:

  • Meia Praia is the largest and largest. From all sides the beach is surrounded by gentle slopes, so there are practically no winds here. Meia Praia provides everything for outdoor activities: water skiing, catamarans, various attractions and so on.
  • Donna Maria is the perfect beach to get away with.
  • Donna Ana. It is considered the most beautiful beach, near which one of the popular hotels is located. It offers stunning views of the rocks. There are two hotels nearby.
  • Batata is small and picturesque. It is sandwiched between a rock, but despite this, there are always a lot of people here.
  • Solaria, like the beach mentioned above, is very close to the city center. But pleases with the size. There are sun loungers, umbrellas and rental of various sports equipment.
  • Praia to Carvalho. This is a very small beach sandwiched between rocks. Here you can rent a boat to visit the picturesque grottoes and caves located nearby.
  • Praia do Amado. It is considered an ideal place for surfers: the wave is good here, but there are not so many people. Both experienced athletes and beginners will like it here, because there are several surfing schools on the beach.
  • Praia de Marinha is a beach for a relaxing holiday. There is no influx of tourists and you can not only soak up the golden sand, but also have a good swim with a snorkel and a mask.

Other things to do in Lagos

Lagos (Portugal) is famous for its ceramics, products from which are sold here for a variety of purposes, shapes and colors. Also in this area there are a large number of shops where you can buy small cork souvenirs: key rings, coasters for glasses and mugs, hats and even shoes. As for shopping, sometimes a fair unfolds near the church, which is located in the harbor, where you can buy unique items of clothing, household items and various souvenirs.

In addition to shopping and excursions in the city, you can visit:

  • large golf course;
  • the zoological garden, where they offer not only to watch a variety of animals, but also to take a walk in the green area;
  • Spa;
  • night clubs.

Lagos (Nigeria) is the largest city in the country, which attracts a large number of tourists. It is located on the shore which belongs to the Atlantic Ocean. The population reaches seven million, and more than 12 million people live in the district. So, what is Lagos and what should a tourist see in the city? We will talk about this further.

History reference

The territory on which the modern city of Lagos is located formerly belonged to the African Yoruba tribe. The current name of the settlement (which translates as "lake") is due to the sailors from Portugal, who landed there in the 15th century and began to trade in slaves. The slave trade was later banned by the Nigerian king in the 19th century. From the middle of the same century, these were already British possessions.

Nigeria became an independent state only in 1960, when the process of gradual economic recovery began. Thanks to this, Lagos (Nigeria) is a real metropolis, the territory of which is almost equal to the lands of the state of the same name.

Climate conditions in Lagos

The city is located on the African continent near the equator. There are special climatic conditions. Temperatures reach 25-26 degrees almost all year round. The hottest time is from November to May. During these months, the temperature is in the range of 27-30, and sometimes reaches 35-38 degrees. Thus, the climate here is usually defined as subequatorial. Time in Nigeria (Lagos) is determined by the time zone UTC / GMT +1 hour.

natural world

Flora and fauna in the area around Lagos are quite diverse. There are a large number of swamps and mango forests (especially in the north direction from the city), where many species of crocodiles, monkeys and snakes live. The presence of beaches with golden sand near the ocean with clear water, as well as the opportunity to explore the underwater world, makes the south coast an attractive tourist center.

Vacationers from all over the world come here all year round to experience the extraordinary African culture.

Structure of the city of Lagos

The center of the metropolis is located on the territory of the island of the same name, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge and a dam, passing to a neighboring island called Iddo. Here you can find a large number of buildings for offices, and in the old district - traditional buildings that stand on narrow winding streets.

Lagos is a port city with its own history and exotic flavor. The main part of the metropolis is well equipped. There are government buildings, churches and many high-rise residential buildings.

The former capital of Nigeria provides for all the hallmarks of the modern African way of life. This also applies to congested streets with a high degree of development. When the buildings here were erected massively, they did it in different styles. That is why in Lagos you can find both traditional houses and unusual Brazilian baroque. In the central part of the city there are ultra-modern buildings, as well as industrial facilities. The special flavor of Lagos is provided by the presence of channels and canals connecting its areas. Of course, this is Africa, and like many other cities on the continent, there are neighborhoods for the poor, but other parts of the city are quite well equipped.

At night, you will be surprised at how beautiful the Carter Bridge is, the length of which is two kilometers. It offers a picturesque view, especially in the evening when the lanterns are lit.

city economy

Transportation is quite well developed in Lagos. This is due to the fact that it is a large commercial center. In addition to being a port city, there is also a modern airport, which is considered the largest on the African continent. Rail transport is not fully developed, but at the moment, construction work is underway in Lagos to create rail traffic. There are too many cars in the city, which is why the roads are heavily loaded, and traffic jams often occur on the streets. However, passenger transportation operates according to the high-speed principle: an average of ten thousand people in 60 minutes in all directions (there are eight of them).

It is in Lagos that the Nigerian industry is concentrated, as well as exchange companies. The city also attracts travelers with a large number of comfortable hotels, as well as the building of the national theater, where you can watch performances and get acquainted with the local culture. Lagos is also famous for its huge bazaars located on impressive territories. Here you can buy everything from food to books and clothes.

Port of Lagos, Nigeria

The city has the largest port in the country, the turnover of which reaches six million tons annually. Its territory is located on the continent, in an area called Apapa, and is estimated at one hundred and twenty hectares. The port of Lagos (Nigeria) has a long history. In connection with the increasing water transportation in the 19th century, there were problems with access to the city's lagoon. It was then that the port area began to develop.

And today one of the container terminals (called "Apapa") is considered the largest in Nigeria.

The city's attractions

The most famous attraction in Lagos is the local bazaars. One of the markets called "Oshodi" has a daily traffic of four million people. The metropolis of Lagos (Nigeria) earns enthusiastic reviews from travelers. It is interesting because here is the building of the National Museum, which contains expositions with historical antiquities of various eras, telling about the history of not only a separate state, but the entire continent.

Under the control of UNESCO is the traditional settlement of Sukur, in which people still follow archaic prescriptions. In the protected area of \u200b\u200bOkomu, you can look at the flora and fauna of Nigeria. A large number of species are rare or even endangered, for example, some species of monkeys and birds. Here you can see a real African elephant and many other animals.

We should also mention the architectural sights of Lagos, one of which is This monument is known for its color and beauty. The synagogue is popular with believers who even make pilgrimages to it. In addition to a cult purpose, it is a kind of symbol of the city. Lagos is also famous for the Iga Idungaran Palace, built in the traditional Yoruba style. The history of its construction began three hundred years ago.

The main resort area of Portugal is province of the Algarve. I first learned about it a few years ago in the blog of V. V. Pozner. He wrote that he enjoys relaxation and the ocean in the blessed Algarve. And I trust the opinion of the sophisticated Vladimir Vladimirovich :)

This is the southernmost part of Portugal, lying on the Atlantic coast. It is quite convenient to travel on it both by bus and by train. Railway tracks are laid almost along the entire coast. Faro is the capital of the Algarve province. The most popular and convenient resorts for recreation are Faro, Tavira, Albufeira, Alvor, Sagres and Lagos, which we have chosen. Lagos- an old picturesque city surrounded by sand dunes, very beautiful beaches and bays.

Here I booked an apartment in Hotel Vilabranca. The apartments are quite spacious, 68 sq. m., designed for a family of 3-4 people, the price is 40 euros / day. There is a kitchen, a furnished balcony. On the territory of all sorts of entertainment and 4 swimming pools. Market and supermarket nearby. A free shuttle service is available to Porto de Mos Beach and the city centre.

All major beaches and bays are within a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. You can choose a new direction every day. For some reason, here you don’t want to plan any excursions or sightseeing. I just want to enjoy the proximity of the ocean and the most beautiful landscapes. Even if we can't swim in the ocean. The ocean is quite unpredictable, the water can be very cold even in summer, or it can be warm. Here's how lucky. That is why the pools on the territory of our apart-hotel are very useful. The closest beach to our hotel is do Porto de Mos beach. It is quite spacious and equipped with everything you need.

Also very popular Dona Ana beach. But all the beaches are almost deserted until 11 o'clock. . And by noon the tide starts. Here, right on the beach, there are several cozy restaurants and bars. It is possible to enjoy the sunset while sitting with a glass of wine.

From this beach you can walk to the lighthouse on foot. Cape Ponta da Piedade. You can walk along the highway, enjoying beautiful panoramas of the ocean and bays. Beautiful paths lead to panoramic platforms. Dress comfortably, headwear, water and, of course, a camera are required. Those who do not really like walking can get to the lighthouse on a tourist train from the historic center of the city.

Not far from the lighthouse there is a staircase that leads down to the water. You can also book a boat trip along the coastal cliffs. After all, many bays and grottoes can only be seen from the ocean.

On the west coast are wilder and more severe the beaches are Castellejo and Cordoama. They are preferred by surfers and kiters.

Not far from the city center are the beaches of Batata and Solaria. Batata beach- small and cozy. It is protected by rocks from the wind and big waves. At high tide, it is almost completely filled with water.

It is connected by a passage in the rock to the neighboring beach. During high tide, this passage is also flooded with water.

Solaria beach more spacious. There are sun loungers, umbrellas and rentals.

To the east of Lagos, it stretches for almost 4 km Meia Praia beach. There is a place to eat, you can do water sports. From here you can also go for a walk on a boat or a boat.

On Grand Beach usually located nudists. For some reason there are no photos :)

very picturesque do Camilo beach. Descent and then ascent up the stairs of 216 steps. That's why it's usually not very crowded :)

If you are traveling with children, then visit science museum in Lagos. It will be interesting for them to look at all kinds of models of yachts, boats, submarines and pirate ships. An adult ticket is 3 euros, a family ticket costs 6-9 euros. Also in the city there is a water park where you can swim with dolphins, and a small zoo.

Definitely need to go to Cape San Vicente. It is located 35 km from Lagos. There is a bus going there twice a day, timetables and prices can be found at www.eva-bus.com. But if you want to watch the sunset, it is better to book a car, gathering a company of 5-7 people. The cost of a round-trip trip with stops at picturesque sites is 100-120 euros for everyone. Or you can buy a guided tour for 18 euros. They say the experience is unforgettable.

Cape San Vicente Lighthouse one of the most powerful in Europe. The light from it is visible for 60 km.

The city of Lagos itself is very cozy, with narrow streets, old churches and a beautiful promenade.

After the earthquake and tsunami of 1775, few historical buildings remained in the city. But something survived: the restored walls of the 16th century, the castle of the governor of the 17th century. From the sights you can see the Church of St. Sebastian, the chapel of John the Baptist. In the historic center is the Church of San Antonio with beautiful interior decoration. Also inside is an ethnographic museum, entrance 3 euros.

And not far from the church is city market. There you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as the freshest fish and seafood. If you wish, everything will be cleaned for you, all that remains is to cook. Food prices in supermarkets are almost like in Russia: something is cheaper, something is more expensive.

There are restaurants and street cafes at every step in the city. There are especially many of them on the streets adjacent to the embankment. Since the city is touristy and small, it is almost impossible to find a restaurant where locals dine. Prices are about the same everywhere. Lunch or dinner will cost you 25-30 euros for two.
