What should toilet paper be? Toilet paper - how to choose? Toilet paper "Lotus Aroma".

Even the choice of toilet paper must be approached with responsibility. Many do not pay attention to this, but the areas for which we use this product are sensitive and susceptible to low-quality material. So that the skin does not irritate or itch after using the paper, consider such points: material, manufacturer, layers, composition and dissolution (is it easy to do).

Manufacturer

The brand of toilet paper matters, because trusted manufacturers are the best and safest option for your health. Each roll is wrapped in a wrapping layer on which the brand can be read. If you want to experiment and buy new paper, choose from those that are more expensive. The cost of toilet paper, even expensive, will not significantly hit your pocket, but it will not harm your health either.

Composition of toilet paper

Toilet paper is made from recycled material or natural cellulose. High quality toilet paper is made from natural polysaccharide or wood pulp. This is an expensive material from which paper and cardboard are still produced. Under the action of water, cellulose begins to dissolve, so used high-quality paper can be safely thrown into the toilet.

Wood pulp does not contain harmful impurities, so it is considered absolutely safe for hygiene. In addition, it is soft and absorbs quickly. Do not be afraid to buy quality paper if it is not the standard white, but pink, light green or any other color. Dyes that are used in the manufacture of paper from wood pulp are special safe ones.

Secondary raw materials are recycled waste paper, which is also used in the production of paper. It is gray in color and generally unappealing. The paper is rough for delicate skin and rough, but has the following advantages: hygroscopicity, density and cheapness. In addition, in the manufacture of this type of paper, there is no need to cut down trees and disturb the ecological balance.

Toilet paper safety

A quality product must be manufactured in accordance with all hygienic requirements. This means that it should not contain questionable colorants, fragrances and antiseptics. If the paper combines all these additives, then in order to avoid allergic reactions, it must have the appropriate one.

The best and safest option is white toilet paper. But when buying, read the packaging: the product should not be treated with chlorine. Such paper will be snow-white, but will cause discomfort during application. Gray paper is also safe (albeit rough to the touch) if it has a special marking on the package.

The simplest paper in terms of production is single-layer. It is packed separately and wrapped in wrapping paper. Multilayer is sold in large packages of several pieces per pack. Packing cellophane allows you to safely store the product and prevent it from getting wet.

Pay attention to the quality certificate if you buy with flavors.

toilet paper hygiene

The more layers in the paper, the better it is and the better it absorbs moisture. But even recycled paper does not mean that paper quality is not the best. A premium quality multi-layer product can be made from either cellulose or recycled pulp. A quality product easily dissolves in water.

The convenience of toilet paper

If you want maximum convenience when using paper, choose a product with perforations. This is a tear-off line that will help you easily separate the right amount of paper. There are rolls with a dissolving sleeve. It is better to throw such a sleeve in the trash than to dissolve it in sewage, creating a load on the sewage treatment plants of the city and the planet.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TOILET PAPER

Paper is made from virgin raw materials (cellulose), from a mixture of recycled and virgin raw materials, and from recycled materials (recycled waste paper). The first two options are preferable from the standpoint of hygiene.

Toilet paper should be soft, not hard. It should absorb moisture well and at the same time be strong enough when wet. At the same time, in order to avoid blockages in the sewer, the strength of toilet paper when wet should not prevent it from dissolving well in water.

About scented and colored paper: before buying, pay attention to the neutrality of the dyes and flavors used. The roll should have a scented core, not the toilet paper itself. Color drawings on paper should be applied on the reverse side of the layers so that there is no skin contact with dyes.

EVALUATION INDICATORS:

We are currently starting to evaluate toilet paper on a new 12-point scale based on 5 indicators: R / MOISTURE, SOFTNESS, WHITENESS, PERFORATION, DELAMINATION.

  • R- the level of tear resistance with light moisture, a scale of 0-2 points.
  • M- the level of softness in contact with the skin, a scale of 0-4 points.
  • B- absence of foreign inclusions in the paper, surface uniformity, scale 0-3 points.
  • P- ease of tearing pieces of paper from the roll along the perforation line, scale 0-1 point.
  • R- the tightness of the layers of paper to each other (for paper from 2 or more layers), the scale is 0-2 points.
  • POINTS- total points obtained by toilet paper, taking into account all indicators, a maximum of 12 points.

TOILET PAPER SELECTION:

  • paper below 3 points. We do not recommend using this paper at all. At best, use it for washing windows, car windows, as a filler for cat litter, etc. , depending on your imagination.
  • paper from 3 before 4 we recommend using points when absolutely necessary, if there is no opportunity or funds to purchase a better one.
  • paper from 5 before 7 points - normal quality, for healthy adults.
  • For young children, for adults with any rectal problems, for those over 50, we do not recommend toilet paper rated below 8 points.

NOTE: We understand that the use of virgin cellulose toilet paper leads to deforestation, which is at least unreasonable from an environmental point of view. Moving away from buying paper made from pulp to buying recycled paper can be everyone's contribution to saving valuable forests.

However, on the site we consider toilet paper primarily as a hygienic product, from the standpoint of the safety of your health. The choice of what to buy is yours.

  • The best hygiene after using the toilet is washing. To do this, on sale today they offer electronic bidet covers with the function of “soft” washing with a scattered jet. If it is not possible to purchase such equipment, a simple option for washing is to use a small plastic bottle of clean water. Toilet paper in this case is used to get wet and does not irritate the skin.
  • The second safest option is to use damp toilet paper.
  • A third option is to use traditional dry toilet paper.

Toilet paper is a daily personal hygiene product that allows you to keep certain areas of the body clean after a bowel movement. These areas in the body are extremely sensitive and delicate, they can have microcracks, and it is very important not to damage them and not to infect. Therefore, the choice of toilet paper is a serious issue, deciding which it is necessary to take care of safety from a medical point of view.

The production of toilet paper is a very complex process. The paper should be soft, should have tear lines in strictly defined places. In order not to clog sewer pipes, the paper must completely decompose in water.

Raw material

For the production of toilet paper, the following raw materials are used: natural cellulose, recycled raw materials, mixed raw materials.

Naturally, cellulose toilet paper (a polysaccharide, the main component of plant walls) is more expensive, but has significant differences in quality: it completely dissolves in water, which is important for the sewerage system; is the most hygienic, since it does not contain harmful impurities such as lead and chlorine; noticeably softer to the touch and has a high absorbency, which again is important for many. Toilet paper is made from natural cellulose and looks the most aesthetically pleasing: the color can be any, but always clean, not blurry.

Toilet paper made from recycled materials - waste paper and cardboard - has its advantages: it is quite cheap, has good hygroscopicity and density, meets high sanitary standards (manufactured using antiseptics and antiperenes), but is denser, rough, single-layer, does not have a pure color , and even colored green, blue or pink, has a grayish tint.

Safety

Color . The safest color is white as it is not dyed. White paper can still be after chlorine treatment. This is eco-friendly paper, but using such toilet paper is not very pleasant. The package must state that bleach containing chlorine has not been used.

Also, the paper can be gray, less aesthetic single-layer.

According to sales statistics, the consumer still prefers cheaper paper, gray, from recycled materials. This is quite understandable and normal, the main thing is that this paper complies with GOST and all sanitary and hygienic standards. In addition, recycled paper saves wood

Often the paper is tinted in some color or a pleasant smell is added.

It is not allowed to add antiseptics, flavors and dyes that can cause allergies.

Best before date toilet paper up to two years. Expired paper loses its useful properties.

Softness. The paper must be soft. Hard paper can cause discomfort and discomfort.

The packaging must indicate the GOST of the respective country, the manufacturer's address, footage (on average 54 meters), weight (from 13 to 40 g, depending on the number of layers) and composition.

Hygiene

The paper should absorb everything. Embossed paper absorbs much better.

Paper can be single-layer and multi-layer. It is better that there are 3-4 layers in the paper, not glued together, with an air gap. Two-layer and three-layer toilet paper is made from natural cellulose or from mixed raw materials and is the most expensive. Single-layer is made from recycled materials, therefore the cheapest. But the number of layers does not always ensure the quality of the paper, if the embossing of the paper is poor, then the paper will delaminate, causing inconvenience during use.

Convenience

The paper should have a clear tear line at the perforation and should be well torn off the roll.

Zero waste

The paper must be completely soluble in water.

In Russia, only 25% of paper is produced from waste paper, so about 10 hectares of forest are cut down annually.

We wish you a good choice!

Cheap toilet paper hasn't changed since the days when queues lined up for it in Soviet stores. It is still sold in rolls wrapped in paper tape, even the shade is often the same - gray.

Manufacturers of such paper like to emphasize that its length is exactly 54 m (however, they often deceive - see table). For some reason, this particular footage has been considered optimal since Soviet times. More expensive multilayer paper is shorter, but you don’t even need to fold it - consumption is less. But it is noticed that it still ends faster.

But it is more convenient to use it. Who is unfamiliar with the situation when, when printing a cheap roll, along with tightly glued packaging, you tear several layers of the paper itself? Poor perforation can also irritate - the tear-off line of the sheets. A torn roll looks, you see, unaesthetically. However, it turned out that among the inexpensive ones there is paper that divides perfectly evenly.

From old newspapers

On sale you can find both a waste paper recycling product and pure pulp paper. Information about the composition is printed on the packaging. True, it can be assumed that the inscription "100% cellulose" does not always mean that this raw material is primary, that is, not obtained from old newspapers. Our expertise has shown that virgin fiber paper is softer and, importantly, dissolves faster in water without clogging the drain.

To test the last parameter, we armed ourselves with a stopwatch and placed the sheets in water, which we “spun” into a funnel using a kitchen blender. Once in the whirlpool, thick three-layer paper almost instantly disintegrated into the thinnest fibers. But the sheets from the "Soviet" rolls and the two-layer "Zewa" first turned into wet lumps - it took them much longer to dissolve.

It turns out that cheap paper is more likely to cause clogging of sewer pipes, especially outside the city, in the country, where the water pressure is weaker.

Expert opinion

Badma BASHANKAEV, Researcher, Department of Coloproctology and Pelvic Floor Surgery, Russian Scientific Center for Surgery named after N.N. acad. B. V. Petrovsky RAMS:

- Too hard toilet paper, and even more so paper of the "Soviet" type - gray, in which even unground particles of paper are visible (in appearance - like wood shavings), - suitable for public places, but not for home. Mechanical irritation can injure the delicate mucous membrane (and it contains many different receptors), provoke inflammation. Therefore, it is natural that in the modern world they have long abandoned the use of newspapers as a means of personal hygiene. The softer the toilet paper, the more layers and less grit, the better. Sometimes toilet paper contains various emollient creams, perfumes, complex colors: before using it, make sure that you are not allergic to such additional components. People who have proctological diseases - hemorrhoids, etc. - are undesirable to use paper. They are recommended washing or wet wipes.

Toilet paper is one of the most popular consumer goods. Now in the domestic market a wide variety of toilet paper. Now in the domestic market there is a wide variety of toilet paper, your choice of single-layer, multi-layer paper or even with flavors.

Manufacturers produce not only white paper, but also models of different colors and smells, for example, Zewa Deluxe or Lotus Aroma. However, this does not mean a high quality product. Moreover, scented and/or colored toilet paper, according to experts, can cause irritation and allergic reactions in sensitive areas of the skin.

Criteria for evaluating toilet paper.

After studying the wishes and preferences of consumers, we have derived the most important criteria for assessing the quality of toilet paper:

  • Toilet paper should be strong enough. Otherwise, you will have to unwind more each time you use it, and the roll will be used up faster.
  • Absorbency (absorption) and water solubility are indicators of efficiency: highly absorbent paper is used up more slowly, and highly water-soluble paper will allow you to avoid unpleasant blockages in pipes.
  • The softness of toilet paper determines comfort and ease of use - soft, it will avoid irritation on sensitive areas of the skin.
  • The ease of tearing off sheets of toilet paper affects the usability. Although all of the models we tested are perforated along the tear lines, not all of them tear equally easily. High-quality paper should be easily torn off exactly along the line and without tears along the vertical of the sheet.

How to save money when buying toilet paper?

Toilet paper is a product of everyday use, on the purchase of which you can save a lot. We advise you to pay attention to the length of the toilet paper. The results of our price per meter calculations showed that the price of a pack or roll often differs greatly from the actual cost of a meter of toilet paper. By looking at the length of the roll indicated on the package, you will be able to understand how much paper you are paying for.

When choosing paper, do not focus on the price. The high price of toilet paper does not mean high quality. For example, during laboratory tests, Zewa Deluxe toilet paper showed the highest results - far from the most expensive model on the market. As a rule, manufacturers make paper either denser to the detriment of softness and solubility, or, conversely, softer to the detriment of strength.

Before you buy toilet paper, you should pay attention to the density of the paper. Thin and fragile paper is consumed 20-30% faster than thick paper, so its actual cost will be higher.

Do not forget that packages come in different sizes: buying packages of 9-12 rolls, you can save up to 30%.
