What engine is installed on the Renault Duster. How much horsepower is in a Renault Duster? Opinions of car owners

In the arsenal of the car there are three power plants: a pair of gasoline and one diesel. Gasoline engines are represented by a 1.6-liter H4M unit (114 hp, 156 Nm) and a 2.0-liter F4R engine (143 hp, 195 Nm). The basic atmospheric "four" 1.6 liters is produced at a plant in Togliatti. A 1.5 dCi turbocharged diesel engine with the K9K index is installed on many cars of the Renault-Nissan alliance. With regard to the Duster, its return is 109 hp, and the maximum torque is 240 Nm (from 1750 rpm). All crossover power units meet the requirements of the Euro-5 environmental standard and have an economical Eco mode.

The range of transmissions available for Renault Duster includes 5 and 6-speed manual transmissions, as well as a 4-band DP8 automatic transmission. The automatic transmission went only to the 2.0-liter engine, the other two engines are content with "mechanics". Most Duster modifications are equipped with rear independent suspension and all-wheel drive. The only version with a rear torsion beam and a 4x2 drive scheme is the initial version with a 1.6 engine and 5MKPP. In all-wheel drive modifications, the force is transmitted to the rear wheels using the GKN clutch, which is also used by the crossover. After activating the Lock mode, it can remain locked at speeds up to 80 km/h.

The trunk volume of the Renault Duster 4x4 is 408 liters (1570 liters with the rear seats folded down). The spare wheel is hidden under the floor. Crossovers with front-wheel drive have a more spacious cargo compartment (475-1636 liters). The spare wheel for such modifications is attached to the bottom of the body.

The fuel consumption of petrol versions of the Duster varies from 7.4 to 8.7 liters. A diesel engine consumes an average of about 5.3 liters of diesel fuel.

2015 continues to gain popularity among those who prefer to purchase a passable and stylish crossover for a minimum of funds. The car offers a wide range of engines, transmissions and trim levels. Today we will talk about the Renault Duster version with a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 114 horsepower, its features, characteristics and owner reviews.

A bit of history

The 1.6 engine for Renault Duster has always been offered. But only in 2015, it gained a new life and reached an unprecedented power of 114 hp Before that, it was also a four-cylinder “aspirated” that had modest 102 forces and could offer low dynamic performance for such a heavy and large machine.

The motor had a truly high reliability and a resource of work with a modest “appetite”, therefore it was very popular among Renault Duster fans. Those who were not enough resorted to chip tuning and for a lot of money increased the Renault Duster power rating to 112 horsepower to the detriment of resource and fuel consumption. By the way, gasoline with octane 95 was used, but if desired, it was possible to fill in fuel with brand 92 or even convert Renault Duster 2015 to gas, which also added strength to the engine.

The new 114 hp engine for the 2015 Renault Duster was obtained by seriously refining the already existing “aspirated” 1.6. Moreover, not only the existing mechanisms were improved, including the piston group and the injection system, but also the software, which made it possible to “squeeze” more out of the engine without compromising its resource and fuel consumption.

The new Renault Duster engine promises even better dynamics and performance during hard acceleration. Is this true and what figures does the manufacturer claim?

Dry numbers

Judging by the numbers provided by the manufacturer, for a new motor with 114 forces, compared to the old motor, almost everything has changed here. On the topic of comparing the two motors, a video has been posted on the network detailing the difference in their design on the Duster.

As already mentioned, the power has increased by 12 hp, from 102 “horses” to 114. It has also grown: if it used to be 145 newton meters, now it has increased to a significant 156, which means that now the car will drive much better themselves on sharp accelerations and uphill climbs. At the same time, as before, the 1.6 liter engine of 2015 will reach such a torque value only at 4000 rpm.

Acceleration of the new Duster to “hundreds” when using high-quality gasoline, as well as when driving on dry, even asphalt, is 12.8 seconds.

By the way, this value has not changed compared to the old motor: the presence of 114 hp with the speed of acceleration did not help matters. On the other hand, the top speed has also not changed and is still a modest 160 km/h. You can’t call such a car fast, although for the speed value it is quite acceptable.

A separate conversation concerns the value of fuel consumption in various driving modes. As you might expect, the most economical for the new Renault Duster is the extra-urban cycle. Here, the manufacturer promises a flow rate not exceeding 7.4 liters per 100 kilometers. True, as practice shows, when reaching high speeds and constantly maintaining high engine speeds, a unit with 114 hp can increase its appetite by 1-2 liters.

In urban traffic jams on Duster, this value almost doubles and amounts to 9.3 liters per “hundred”. At the same time, in frost and with the air conditioner running, this figure can also change upwards. In the combined cycle, Renault Duster 2015 promises to consume 7.4 liters per 100 kilometers, this value corresponds to driving in a small city or driving in small towns.

Owners opinion

Judging by the reviews, 2015 with a 114 hp engine is recognized by the owners as a fairly dynamic, but at the same time, economical car, perfect for carrying a large amount of luggage and driving on light off-road.

« Yaroslav. Ownership - 6 months. I only need a car to get to the country and back. The main part of the route is the track, but in the end the path lies through a bumpy road, which is replete with all sorts of bumps, slides and ruts. After watching the video and carefully studying the filling of Renault Duster 2015, it was decided to give preference to a 114 hp engine with front-wheel drive and “mechanics”. I am happy with the car: it rides the way it should go. Consumption is an average of 8 liters, but that's because I don't drive slowly. No damage was seen."

Some in their reviews, on the contrary, complain about insufficient dynamics and try to solve the problem by chip tuning the Duster. " Oksana. Ownership - 1 year. Last year, in 2015, I decided to change my old Niva to a new, more powerful and spacious car. The choice fell in favor of the most modest engine in the line - 114 hp with manual transmission. Joy knew no bounds, but exactly as long as I was not lucky enough to go to the track. Overtaking Renault Duster categorically lacks power: even on the mechanics, trying to squeeze out all the juices, in half of the cases it is not possible to overtake. I decided on chip tuning: I hope this will help solve the problem.

Also in the reviews, there are often recommendations that will help to avoid possible errors during operation and save on engine repairs. " Oleg Andreevich. Ownership - 8 months. For me, the 1.6 engine is, if not the standard of practicality, then something close to it. Since the Duster is a working car, the runs are rather big and alternate, either in city traffic jams, or on the highway, not of the highest quality. I can say one thing: if you change the oil according to the regulations, the engine will quickly become unusable. From experience, for myself, I reduced the replacement interval to 10 thousand. But now you don’t have to go to the services on the Duster, as if you were going to work, and constantly invest money and time in the car.”

Summary

With the 1.6 engine, it shows excellent dynamics with modest fuel consumption and a long uptime. If timely replacement is made, repairs will not be needed soon, and the car will only be a pleasure to drive.

    Renault Duster is a fairly common car in Russia. Such popular “love” is explained by an affordable price, unpretentiousness in operation, simplicity of design, high ground clearance and the presence of all-wheel drive in some trim levels.

    The undoubted advantage of the Duster is its "indestructible" suspension, which feels good both on the road and beyond. All of the above factors make this car a desirable purchase, both in the salon at the dealer and in the secondary market.

    And if in the cabin the buyer is faced with the choice of only modification and configuration, then in the second case it is necessary to thoroughly investigate the condition of the car.

    So what are the weak points of the gasoline Renault Duster, what nuances to pay attention to when buying a used car?

    Engines

    Duster is offered to domestic motorists with four gasoline engines:

    F4R 2.0 liter petrol engine with 135 hp (installed on the first generation until 2015);

    F4R gasoline engine with a volume of 2.0 liters and 143 hp (began to be installed after restyling);

    K4M 1.6 liter petrol engine with 102 hp (until 2015);

    H4M 1.6 petrol engine. liters and 114 hp (motor from Nissan, installed since 2015, produced in the Russian Federation).

    Long-term operation of the Russian-assembled Duster has shown that all four engines “digest” domestic fuel well and withstand our operating conditions. Motors that “rolled back” 200 or more thousand km did not differ in “oil consumption”, their power did not decrease significantly. But, of course, it was not without small “jambs”. Consider each engine and its features in more detail.

    F4R motor

    It is the most common engine in the lineup and is popular with Russian motorists. Sold cars of the first generation in more than half of the cases were aggregated by him (on the territory of the EAEU). The engine is simple in design, previously tested on other Renault models. The cylinder block is made of cast iron, resistant to high temperatures. Aluminum cylinder head, two camshafts, valve clearances are regulated by hydraulic lifters. The weak points of this internal combustion engine are considered to be the crankshaft position sensor and the phase regulator on the intake camshaft that fail after 100 thousand kilometers.

    But these are nothing more than rumors. According to dealer service centers in their warehouses, these are the most unclaimed spare parts, both in the warranty and post-warranty period of operation on cars that have either passed 100 thousand, or whose age is three or more years.

    Such information has been circulating from mouth to mouth for a very long time, even when 10-12 years ago Renault Megan engines had such problems. Since then, the motors have been improved, Duster has no such problems.

    For those who doubt: listen to a warm engine. If the phase regulator is faulty, then the gasoline engine will sound like a diesel engine.

    In 2015, the design of the phase regulator was updated once again, the exhaust was changed and the electronics were reconfigured, which gave the engine an additional 8 hp, and the F4R with 143 forces was born. As for the real problems, the F4R has a throttle gasket, because of which, over time, the car starts to start worse in cold winters.

    There were also complaints about the noise that the rollers of additional equipment, driven by the timing belt, made. By the way, it must be changed every 60 thousand kilometers, if the belt breaks, this motor has no chance: the valves must meet the pistons.

    There are no other problems with this engine. There are problems with the ignition coils and spark plugs, but they are caused by leaking washer nozzles. Either replace them or protect the spark plug wells from moisture. A car with this engine, manual transmission and all-wheel drive consumes a little more than 10 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers in urban mode. On the highway, if you drive calmly, you can meet 7.5 liters. Moreover, the motor is normally powered by 92nd gasoline. In the case of the "automatic" consumption increases by almost two liters.

    Motor K4M

    The 1.6-liter K4M (the exact volume is 1598 cm3) produces 102 horsepower. Domestic motorists consider it not powerful enough for this car. But they are not quite right. Although it has less engine power and torque than a two-liter one, the transmission of a car with such an internal combustion engine has different gear ratios, and in practice the car drives very briskly, you just need not be afraid to turn the engine up to 4 thousand revolutions.

    There is even inside information from one of the engineers who designed the Duster that the all-wheel drive version was originally supposed to be equipped with this more balanced engine. In the EU, this model was previously sold only with it and with a diesel engine, but there it was Dacia.

    This power unit does not have any typical “sores”, except for the above-described minor problem with the throttle gasket. But it can consume more gasoline than a two-liter one. The engine can easily go 400-500 thousand km with proper maintenance. Replacing the timing belt - once every 60 thousand km, the valve clearance is adjusted using hydraulic lifters.

    Motor H4M

    This engine from Nissan began to be installed on the Duster in 2015. The working volume is 1.6 liters, the power is 114 hp. The engine is not bad, has excellent elasticity. But its block is made of aluminum, which means that it cannot be repaired. There are no hydraulic lifters, valve clearances are adjusted with washers, the motor design is very simple. Instead of a timing belt, a chain is used, which pleases many. Up to 150 thousand, there are no problems with it.

    Of the weaknesses of this internal combustion engine, one can single out the need to remove the intake manifold in order to change the candles. And you need to do this every 30 thousand mileage, preferably at the service station. The engine is afraid of overheating.

    The resource of this power unit is up to 350 thousand km. Fuel consumption: about 9.5 liters in the city, a little more than 7 on the highway. Produced in the Russian Federation.

    What to choose, it is up to the buyer to decide. The option with a two-liter gasoline 143-horsepower unit, manual transmission and all-wheel drive looks optimal.

    What else is worth paying attention to? When looking at the Duster in the secondary market, pay attention to the body in the tailgate area near the chrome Duster emblem, the edge in the bumper area, the rear wheel arches (their front part is sandblasted by wheels). See if the mastic on the back of the roof drains is cracked, if the paintwork is worn out in those places where it comes into contact with the door seals.

    Pay attention to the power steering tube in the area where it is attached to the subframe. If the Duster is properly maintained and correctly operated, then it will pass 150-170 thousand without causing any problems to the owner. Further, it may be necessary to replace the cardan joints, CV joints, shock absorbers, RCS. But nothing is eternal, these problems are not particularly costly in terms of finances.

    In general, the car is more than worthy and hassle-free with proper maintenance.

For the first time, the Duster model was presented to the public at the time of the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. It was a modern five-door crossover, which, depending on the configuration, could have both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, which was especially liked by numerous lovers of an active lifestyle and country trips. The automaker Renault decided to assemble the new model at one of the branches of its Renault Dacia plants in Romania.

Undoubtedly, the car is attractive, both for budget and family-friendly models. Numerous crash tests have demonstrated the ability of the vehicle to successfully overcome even the most difficult types of off-road, and the clearance for cars was quite high and amounted to 210 mm. It is a little unusual that this crossover has rather small dimensions, which, as expected, gave it high maneuverability, it has a voluminous trunk (1570 l), a spacious and roomy interior, equipped with many modern multifunctional devices. In other words, this modification immediately interested many motorists around the planet.

To date, there are four versions of the Renault Duster crossover, the cost and configuration of which largely depend on the working volumes of their power plants located on certain modifications. This can be a diesel engine, the volume of which is 1500 cm3, or several gasoline mechanisms with working volumes of 1.6 or 2.0 liters.

It is worth saying that only one configuration of the Luxe Privilege car has an automatic transmission. Many versions are available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The cost of the Authentique modification is about 15.5 thousand euros, the Expression is available for a little less than 19 thousand, the Privilege package will cost the buyer 20.5 thousand, and the Luxe Privilege around 22.5 thousand.

The price of the models is affordable for many motorists in comparison with most other brothers in the class. Some of them have a higher cost or less traffic, which does not suit many consumers. The complete set of most versions of the Duster has all the necessary equipment, many additional accessories that meet the high standards of most modern vehicles of this class.

Engine Models

The range of proposed power units for this modification starts with eight-cylinder and ends with 16-cylinder. In the list of models proposed by the manufacturer, there are three versions of engines and the consumer can choose:

  1. 1.6-liter gasoline, 102 hp, average fuel demand in the urban cycle of 9.8 liters and a maximum speed of 163 km / h;
  2. a gasoline "kopeck piece" with a power of 135 "horses", an average consumption of gasoline in the urban cycle of 10.3 liters and a maximum speed of 177 km / h;
  3. diesel for 1,500 cm3 and a power of 90 liters. with., fuel consumption in urban conditions up to 5.9 liters, a maximum speed of 158 km / h.

Injection type engines have a low rate of gasoline consumption in relation to cars of this class. These models can be safely filled with 92 and 95 gasoline. Units with a two-liter volume are available for all-wheel drive and 2WD modifications, and a diesel engine can only be bought in combination with a manual transmission.

Economical and durable mechanisms

As already mentioned, for the Duster modification, the automaker developed three versions of power units (one diesel and two gasoline). A distinctive feature of any of them is a high level of efficiency, excellent dynamics, they meet every Euro 5 environmental standard and have a high degree of reliability. For example, fuel consumption for a diesel engine in a combined cycle is 5.3 l / 100 km, while for other models this figure can reach the limits of 7.8 - 8.2 liters.

All mechanisms have not only numerous and varied advantages, but also have certain disadvantages, and it is necessary to choose a model based on your personal preferences. First of all, each Renault Daxter engine is reliable and economical, which already deserves respect. For example, a complete set with a two-liter engine will be more powerful, have attractive speed characteristics, and speaking about fuel consumption, the diesel version will have a minimum appetite. These and other features of the technical components of this model should be studied more carefully before making the final choice in favor of one or another configuration.

Pros and cons of diesel engines

During its existence, Renault has performed two restyling for the Duster model in a diesel version. Until 2015, they had a 1.5-liter dCi diesel mechanism with a power of 90 hp. s., and only then units of identical power of 109 "horses" were added. This was the main difference between the old and more modern modifications.

Both versions were supplemented with a 6-speed manual, which the owners of such configurations spoke positively about. Often, consumers spoke of a minimum fuel consumption of about 5 liters, however, some complained about the noise of the diesel engine and argued about the need for additional sound insulation for it. On average, for a freelance noise reduction device at a service station, they ask for up to one thousand dollars, but if you do the work yourself, then all costs will not exceed $ 350.

Also, the owners complain that at high speed on the highway, the vehicle wakes up with an increased appetite for diesel fuel. Often there are situations when, when starting a car, black smoke comes out of its exhaust. The car starts without problems at low temperatures. It is desirable to fill these Renault Duster modifications with high-quality fuel at proven gas stations.

What modification to choose?

Based on the feedback from the owners of Renault Duster, we can conclude that there are not so many obvious advantages for a gasoline engine over a diesel modification, however, they are all significant. The main ones are greater frost resistance to negative air temperatures, which allows you to start a car with a gasoline unit in fairly high frosts and the fact that this type of engine is more revving, which makes it much faster than its diesel counterparts.

It's true that diesel engines are quite slow compared to gasoline engines. The latest models of diesel mechanisms are capable of competing with gasoline units, but they are quite expensive and are available only on elite versions of the model. The value of the first advantage can be reduced in various ways, for example, by installing an additional heating system on the vehicle. The cost of such an upgrade is not very high and starts at $ 200.

Another advantage of gasoline engines over diesel engines is that in the Russian Federation the quality of gasoline is higher compared to diesel fuel. This plus is even more relevant for remote regions of our state. In other words, it is up to each person to decide which Duster equipment to purchase on an individual basis.

Renault keeps its brand on the level

In general, we can say that all the power units of this vehicle model have a long service life, they are economical, and their maintenance often does not require any additional and high costs. In addition, Renault Duster engines are reliable in any conditions and various climatic zones of our country, which pleases most of their owners.

Yes, they have certain shortcomings, but where have you met a 100% perfect mechanism, to which numerous consumers would not have any complaints at all. Not always minuses are born through the fault of the manufacturer. So, for example, in the Russian Federation, dealers offer the diesel version of the Duster only in harmony with the only one, namely all-wheel drive, and simply for consumers there are no other alternatives that European motorists have.

One of the latest configurations of this car received a more powerful K9K 1.5 dCi engine with 109 “horses”, and fuel consumption remained at the same low level as for this class of vehicles. A similar upgrade was achieved by the automaker's engineers through the innovative introduction of a new turbine with higher performance and increased pressure for the fuel rail.

The choice is yours

Opinions on which model with which engine configuration is better to purchase were roughly divided 50/50. Some say that it is more profitable and more economical to purchase models with a diesel engine, while others are sure that Renault Duster, equipped with a gasoline-powered mechanism, will be the ideal solution for domestic conditions.

For example, the diesel version seems to have an insufficient power indicator, but due to the high level of torque available already at the lowest revs, this indicator is significantly smoothed out. Perhaps soon this version will be available with an automatic transmission and then its admirers will become even more.

If you want to own a more powerful car, then you should opt for a version with a 2-liter power unit that runs on gasoline. Although this model will cost a little more, it will allow you to fully enjoy its excellent speed performance.

In a word, it's up to you. We can say with confidence that all engine models for Duster are generally reliable, economical, will be affordable in operation, which will be appreciated by many domestic motorists.

Engine Renault Duster 1.6 liters is the base engine of an affordable crossover. It is worth considering that in the summer of 2015, an updated Renault Duster went on sale. Under the hood of the restyled version, instead of the ancient 102 horsepower gasoline engine, there was already a 114 horsepower modern unit. In our article we will talk about both power units, especially since they are structurally from different eras of the automotive industry.

Renault Duster 1.6 K4M engine device

Initially, all Russian Renault Dusters were equipped with an engine from the series Renault K4M. This is a 4-cylinder 16-valve unit with multiport fuel injection and a timing belt. Base cast iron block. The cylinders are bored directly into the block. The order of operation of the cylinders: 1-3-4-2, counting - from the flywheel.

Renault Duster 1.6 K4M engine cylinder head

Engine block head Renault Duster 1.6 liter aluminum with two camshafts and hydraulic lifters. That is, the thermal clearance of the valves does not need to be adjusted manually. And all thanks to the valve lever hydraulic bearings, which are installed in the sockets of the cylinder head. A hydraulic compensator with a check ball valve is installed inside the body of the hydraulic support. The oil inside the hydraulic support comes from the line in the cylinder head through the hole in the hydraulic support housing. The hydraulic support automatically ensures backlash-free contact of the camshaft cam with the valve lever roller, compensating for wear on the cam, lever, valve stem end face, seat chamfers and valve disc.

Timing drive for Renault Duster 1.6 K4M engine

The Renault Duster 1.6 camshafts are driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley. On the shaft next to the first (counting from the camshaft gear pulley) support neck, a thrust flange is made, which, during assembly, enters the grooves of the block head and cover, thereby preventing axial movement of the shaft. The camshaft pulley is not fixed on the shaft with a key or pin, but only due to the friction forces that occur on the end surfaces of the pulley and shaft when the pulley fastening nut is tightened. A broken belt or jumping a few teeth usually leads to bad consequences, because this engine definitely bent valve. The timing belt is replaced every 60 thousand kilometers or after 4 years, whichever comes first, regardless of its condition.

New Renault Duster 1.6 engine with 114 hp is a joint development of the Renault-Nissan concern and is installed on all mass models of both manufacturers. True, almost every model has its own modification, which is why the power of the unit floats. Unfortunately, the engine does not have hydraulic lifters.

The new motor has an aluminum cylinder block and valve train chain, 16 valve timing, two nozzles per cylinder and a variable valve timing system on the intake shaft. The engine is assembled at Avtovaz with a large share of localization.

Timing drive for Renault Duster 1.6 H4M engine

Timing chain drive of the new Renault Duster 1.6 engine perhaps the main advantage of the new unit. The chain is very durable and requires virtually no maintenance. True, if it is necessary to replace it, this procedure is significantly more expensive than replacing the belt. In addition, few people know, but there are two chains in the new Duster engine. One rotates the camshaft sprockets, and the second small chain rotates the motor oil pump sprocket. In our photo, a little higher, this can be clearly seen.
