For the first time the festival "Palezyan" was held in the capital of the Udmurt Republic - the city of Izhevsk in October 2011 and gathered about two thousand participants, guests and spectators. Art groups and performers, artists and public figures from Udmurtia, Finland and Mordovia presented modern trends and directions of ethnic culture, and exchanged their creative ideas and experience with each other.

As part of the 100th anniversary of the newspaper "Udmurt Dunne" June 10-12, 2015 Izhevsk hosts the 7th Finno-Ugric Press Festival. Festival program
The Finno-Ugric Press Festival is being held in Ugra for the first time. It will be attended by representatives of almost all publications of the Finno-Ugric peoples. Within the framework of the event, not only problems and achievements will be discussed, the organizers also thought out a rich cultural program for the guests of the forum. They will visit many cultural institutions of Khanty-Mansiysk, meet small children who are learning their native language, playing instruments and dancing. Another important meeting with the deputies of the Duma and the Assembly of Representatives of the Indigenous Minorities of the North of Yugra will take place in the District Duma and, of course, guests will be able to taste the traditional cuisine of the indigenous minorities of the North. Tomorrow, a plenary session will be held as part of the forum, including the opening of a photo exhibition.
« The peculiarity of the festival is that the Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia are scattered over many regions and in order to somehow get closer, journalists need to communicate. We meet, establish contacts, exchange experiences. We will sum up the results of the work and outline plans for the next year. Two years ago we had our own website, which was registered as a media. We want all regions to join in the enrichment and filling of this resource”, Nikolay Ishutkin emphasized.
For her part, Elena Minnigareva added that a delegation of the Government of the Udmurt Republic participates in this festival every two years: “ For us, this is not just an exchange of experience, we learn from each other, get acquainted with the local culture, new ideas are born. Today, publications of the Finno-Ugric press actively involve children and youth in their work. So, Nikolai Ishutkin noted that they, in particular, have accumulated a lot of experience in working with young people. Many years ago, activists were found in the schools of the region who wrote materials for the magazine. For 30 years, the editors have raised several generations of future journalists and writers. In addition, the journal uses materials from participants in creative Olympiads. The magazine also has a section called "Lights", it is the most popular, where poems, fairy tales and stories of schoolchildren and students are published.
« Children's magazines are a kind of forge of personnel. We notice children, give them recommendations for admission to the department of journalism at universities and, of course, we subsequently receive journalists and writers”, - said the chairman of the NGO “Commonwealth of Finno-Ugric Journalists”.
The press of the government of the Udmurt Republic also actively cooperates with the Udmurt State University, with the Institute of the History of Language and Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences. " When we need any material, a representative of the institute acts as an expert. If they find some interesting information, they turn to the newspaper. It is interesting both for us and for readers. We are trying to raise young people who feel the language, want to write and want to develop the Udmurt culture", - said Elena Minnigareva.
Children are actively involved in journalism in the united editorial office of the national newspapers of Yugra. Here, various creative competitions are organized for schoolchildren and their works are published. Another interesting project is a children's magazine, which was published in three languages - Khanty, Russian and English.
« Today, in all our small towns and cities where they teach their native language, they also teach English. Teachers often say that there is no material related to the cultures and traditions of the peoples of the North in English. We have tried to fulfill this request", - said Raisa Reshetnikova.
Also today in Ugra there is a project on the work of mass media with schoolchildren of Ugra. " We are looking for people who can simultaneously write, work on radio and television in their native languages. Several training seminars have already taken place, where children learn to take pictures, process photos, learn the basics of journalism”, - noted the editor-in-chief of the united editorial office of the national newspapers Khanty Yasang and Luima seripos.
A look into the future
Today, all Finno-Ugric publications are faced with such a problem as a decrease in circulation. "N At meetings, we discuss how to get out of the current situation, share experience, who and how use modern digital technologies. Now we are working on the creation of a mobile application. We attract active youth, try to follow new trends, hold quests, brain-rings, - said the deputy editor-in-chief of the Udmurt Dunne newspaper. - We expect this festival to give us an understanding of where to go next.».
Note that all publications understand that without a paper version, nowhere. After all, Finno-Ugric publications not only bring information to the reader, they carry a different mission - they are a kind of cultural centers where representatives of indigenous peoples address their problems. They are closer to receiving information in their native language, and they trust it more.
« We would very much like to see all our indigenous people in the district receive a newspaper in their native language. We have newspapers in the Kazym and Surgut dialects, and now we are working on having a newspaper in the Vakh dialect. Subsidizing publications helps us a lot. I am glad that in addition to creating a newspaper, the united editorial office can participate in competitions for various government grants and create their own publications. We strive to ensure that representatives of all nationalities who live in the district can receive information in their native language”, - emphasized Raisa Reshetnikova.
