Tonight in the United States took place the next award of the music channel MTV Video Music Awards.

After admiring the guests of the red carpet, we move, albeit virtually, to The Forum hall, where the main action unfolded that evening. Miley Cyrus, Pink, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Jared Leto and many other popular performers took to the stage. However, not everyone got figurines in the form of an astronaut in a spacesuit with a flag on which the MTV logo is depicted.

The award was won by rapper Kendrick Lamar, who won in six categories at once: his video Humble, which plays on the theme of Leonardo da Vinci's famous fresco "The Last Supper", was recognized best video of the year. True, this did not help Lamar win in the nomination "Best Artist": this title went to the British singer Ed Sheeran.

Not too successful in terms of awards was the award for Katy Perry: the singer's video Chained to the Rhythm was nominated in four categories, but in the end did not win any. However, the star was clearly not upset because she had to leave the VMAs empty-handed: Katie, who became the host of the evening, put on an enchanting show for the audience and got a lot of applause. She hovered over the stage dressed as an astronaut, tried on different outfits and wigs, and danced on a giant basketball. Even Miley Cyrus, who rocked the stage in the style of the 50s that evening, could not outshine Perry!

Pink also had a bright performance, which received the Michael Jackson award from the hands of Ellen DeGeneres. The singer thanked for the honor done to her and turned to her little daughter, who at that moment was sitting in the hall, with an emotional speech, the meaning of which was as follows: you need to love yourself any and know that all people are different.

Jared Leto also had an emotional speech, who remembered the soloist who committed suicide Linkin Park Chester Bennington:

"Chester was my friend and he taught me many important things - by his example: to work hard, follow your dreams and always be kind and caring while doing it. When I think of Chester, his face immediately comes to my mind and he always smiles .I think about it's incredible big heart. I think of his wife, family, and the band, where everyone was like brothers. I remember Chester's voice, fierce and gentle at the same time. A voice that will live forever," Leto concluded.

Another poignant speech was made that evening by Paris Jackson, who appeared at the ceremony to present an award in the nomination "Best Pop Video". Michael Jackson's daughter spent her time on stage stigmatizing racism: Paris condemned mass riots in Charlottesville that broke out on racial grounds.

By the way, clips, one way or another condemning discrimination based on skin color, religion, nationality, orientation and other characteristics, were allocated a separate category.

The August 27 show will undergo a historic transformation

He's got the best-selling album of the year, and now continues his hot streak by leading the field of nominees for the .

Lamar has racked up a whopping eight nominations (damn!), including Video of the Year, Best Hip Hop, and Best Cinematography, all for his dynamic “HUMBLE.” visual. In the list announced Tuesday (July 25) via Instagram Live, VMA veteran trails behind with five nods, as does , who’s looking to earn his first-ever Moon Person.

This year's show is also a historic one - following the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the VMA ceremony will eliminate gendered categories. The former Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories have been combined to form Artist of the Year. Lamar, The Weeknd, and will vie for that prize.
