We only managed to see the Palace Square. This time there is hope to get to know the city better. Maybe take a bus tour. The city is beautiful, it looks like Venice.

The Celentano Tribute Show has been around for seven years. Do you perform with the same program every time or do you still have to change it?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- Yes, it premiered in 2008. Celentano has songs that are very popular in Russia and almost unknown in Italy. And vice versa. Therefore, the program for Russia differs from what we present in other countries - it includes compositions beloved by Russians. In addition, our visit to Moscow last November helped us better understand what the audience in Russia is waiting for.

- What is the reason for this difference? With Celentano films that are popular in Russia?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- No, it's not about them. The same films are equally known in different countries. It's more about songs from albums that are perceived differently. For example, "I love you" is almost unknown in Italy, but in Russia everyone likes it. Not only because of the name. The same goes for all the songs from the 1979 Soli album.

For seven years, you managed to present the show in different countries. Is it noticeable by the reaction of the public that somewhere they love Celentano more?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- We noticed that in Russia he is remembered and loved no less than in his homeland, in Italy. And sometimes even more. I was very surprised when I found out that the Russians even know the lyrics of his songs - they sing along at concerts. Most likely, not everyone understands the meaning of words, memorizing them simply by ear. Although it is not uncommon for people to learn Italian from songs, the way we in Italy learn English from British and American hits. "Amore" and "Azzurro" are perhaps the most popular.

It is a great responsibility to imitate a contemporary who can see your performances and appreciate them. What does Celentano himself think about the Celentano Tribute Show?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- Adriano Celentano is certainly one of the international symbols of Italy. And I'm really proud and grateful that I can bring this symbol to other countries. It's not easy to go on stage with such a load of responsibility. Although Adriano became a superstar back in the 50s, today he leads a very withdrawn and solitary life. I would not like to speak for him. I think if he wanted to speak publicly about our show, he would have done it himself. I hope you understand.

- Well, at least he is not against your performances?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- This is absolutely correct. We know that he has seen snippets of the show online and generally keeps track of news related to it.

You are not the only artist imitating Adriano. Surely you have met those who are trying to copy your show.

Maurizio Schweitzer:- For Italy, Adriano's imitators are a completely familiar phenomenon. In every small town you can find one or two "celentans". His image, due to time, has already separated from his personality, he has become something of a friend for every Italian. I also often come across colleagues who perform numbers in this image on various shows and TV shows. The main secret of success here is not to exaggerate, not to overplay. Adriano Celentano is a plastic artist with many unique movements, with unique facial expressions. And if the attention of the viewer is too focused on this, then there is a risk of creating a mask instead of an image. That's what I try to focus on when I'm performing - don't overact and be as natural as possible.

Another difference between your show and others is that you sing live, and in such a way that it is almost indistinguishable from the original voice of Celentano. And it's harder than copying the appearance.

Maurizio Schweitzer:- I was sometimes asked to sing the songs of other musicians, but it just so happened that it seems to work only for Celentano. If you heard me sing something from Robbie Williams, you would think that Adriano is trying to record a cover version. Nothing had to be done for this, the voice turned out to be a gift of nature in addition to appearance.

Didn't the thought come to you to start your own separate musical career - to write your own songs and separate from the image of Celentano?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- I prefer to live for today and not make far-reaching plans. Now I am very passionate about this particular show and busy promoting it around the world. But I'm open to new ideas and opportunities - if tomorrow I wake up with the desire to write my own songs, then I'll do it. So it is possible that in the future Maurizio will no longer be associated with Adriano.

Artists with vivid stage images, and especially doubles, have a risk of becoming a victim of one image. Aren't you afraid that the audience will no longer be able to perceive you as an original singer?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- Well, I can, for example, grow a beard. But seriously, Celentano himself began his career, adopting something from other performers. In the 50s, he was inspired by rock and roll and the stars of that time - in particular, the work of Jerry Lewis. And echoes of this period were traced later in his roles and songs. There is nothing wrong. And perhaps if I decide to start a “separate” creative career, some traits borrowed from Celentano will remain.

Was music your childhood dream? How much did your creative path depend on chance?

Maurizio Schweitzer:- Like every child, I dreamed of a great future. One dream out of many was to become a football player. But my legs seemed to start dancing on their own, so it was almost impossible to hit the ball and get it to fly in the right direction. I had a musical family: my father and cousins ​​were connected with music. I started singing, and as I got older, people around me started to notice that I could imitate Adriano better than other artists. I performed a little, and then I met the pianist Mattia Cortellazzi, and we came up with this show. This is an abbreviated version of my story, of course.

Last year, you appeared on Channel One in the program Just Like It and said a few words in Russian. Should the audience from St. Petersburg expect you to communicate with them in a language they understand?

Maurizio Schweitzer:-“Thank you very much”, “Hello”, “Good”, “Excellent”, “I love you”, and that’s all, perhaps. By the way, when the last song sounds, beautiful women often come up from the audience with flowers. It's nice. I hope that in 30 years I will be able to give you an interview in pure Russian. In the meantime, a translator works at my concerts, who translates jokes, greetings and other speech from Italian. Russians, like Italians, attach great importance to facial expressions and gestures when communicating, and this is a big part of the image of Adriano, so you can communicate with Russians without words.

- When you didn’t take first place in the Just the Same program, was it a shame?

Not really. I was glad that I participated there at all - then I received so many letters from Russia! It was great, I met many famous people. For example, with Lyubov Kazarnovskaya - we communicated with her in my native language. It was difficult to communicate with the rest, as I was left without an interpreter. There was another funny moment. In your show Just the Same, the artists portray other stars, and so many approached me, thinking that I was Alexander Revva, portraying Celentano.

In addition to Alexander, Maurizio was familiar with Nikolai Baskov. “We met in Spain - we participated in the same corporate party,” said Mr. Schweitzer.

- Do you have discs of some Russian performers in your car?

Of course. These are Grigory Leps, Artur Pirozhkov and Alexander Ivanov from the Rondo group. I generally like Russian music. It is very melodic and reminds us of our Neapolitan music, our traditions.

- Did something surprise you in Russia?

Public! She's even hotter than ours! We are given a huge number of flowers, sweets, icons and, of course, kisses! We receive a lot of positive energy. And yet, while my wife Rafaella is not around, I will say that you have very beautiful girls. But my wife always travels with me - she goes on stage as a backing vocalist.
