What Can Cancer Patients Eat? Lifestyle and nutrition in oncology

We all know how important the nature of the food we eat is for human life. Healthy it helps to maintain the correct metabolism and prevent the occurrence of many diseases, and the patient - to deal with disorders and their complications. In this regard, the role of nutrition in cancer cannot be underestimated, because such patients need a large amount of vitamins, microelements, fiber, and protein.

A healthy person does not always think about what he eats, pampering himself with sweets, smoked products, sausages, fatty and fried foods. Stores offer a wide variety of products with preservatives, colorants, stabilizers, flavor enhancers and other harmful ingredients. Meanwhile, such food not only does not improve health, but also contributes to many diseases, including oncological pathology. If the prevention of malignant tumors through nutrition seems to many to be an ineffective and useless exercise, then a diet for cancer is sometimes crucial in the process of treating a disease, contributing to the deterioration or stabilization of the patient's condition. This may seem strange to some, but food is processed by the body into simpler components, from which new cells are then built.

A proper diet helps maintain a normal metabolism, prevents the formation of free radicals that damage tissues, saturates the body with vitamins, minerals, fibers, which are so necessary for the digestive system. Not without reason, one of the basic principles of a healthy lifestyle is recognized as a healthy diet, which improves the antitumor properties of the immune system, leads to an increase in physical activity, normalization of weight and hormonal levels.

In general terms, an anti-cancer diet should include plenty of vegetables and fruits, grains, legumes, fiber. Focusing on plant components, do not forget about meat, preferring low-fat varieties - veal, turkey, rabbit. Fish, rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, seafood, containing sufficient amounts of iodine, are also necessary for the body. The first step towards such nutrition should be the rejection of foods that are known to contain carcinogens or are such: fast food, sausages, smoked meat and fish, chips, carbonated drinks, various semi-finished products, confectionery, etc.

In patients with malignant neoplasms, the metabolism is significantly disturbed, the tumor consumes a large amount of glucose, vitamins, protein, releasing toxic metabolic products into the blood and acidifying the surrounding space. All this is accompanied by intoxication, weight loss, severe weakness. If the disease proceeds with bleeding, then there are signs of anemia and oxygen starvation of tissues, which further aggravates the patient's condition. To make up for the missing calories, kilograms of weight and substances vital for metabolism, a special diet for oncological patients is called upon.

The peculiarity of the nutrition of a cancer patient is that if it is necessary to refuse many products, it is necessary, nevertheless, provide the patient with sufficient calories and nutrients, which is quite problematic to do with some tumors (stomach, intestines, oral cavity). In such cases, in addition to a full-fledged diet, they also resort to infusion or using a probe to introduce additional mixtures and substances.

If the condition of the digestive system of a cancer patient allows, then the diet should include readily available carbohydrates in the form of honey, sweet creams, nuts, dried fruits, biscuits or chocolate. The attractiveness of food is also important, since many patients complain of a decrease or even lack of appetite against the background of tumor intoxication or during treatment. In such cases, various seasonings, fragrant herbs, sauces come to the rescue. Cloves, mint, cinnamon, pepper, parsley, dill, cumin, ginger, turmeric and many other tasty and healthy natural additives can significantly “transform” the taste of the most ordinary and unattractive dish. In addition, spices not only improve the taste, but also stimulate the secretion of digestive juices, thus improving the digestion of food.

Foods with anti-cancer properties

Long-term observations, including the experience of nutritionists, oncologists and the patients themselves, indicate that there are foods that prevent the development and progression of the tumor. Based on such data, scientists studied the chemical composition of some of them and found that, indeed, they contain substances with pronounced antioxidant, anti-cancer and even immunostimulating properties. The right diet can not only serve, but also give cancer patients an additional chance for a cure.

The group of products that prevent malignant tumors include:

Garlic has long been known for its beneficial properties in the fight against various diseases. It has a pronounced antimicrobial effect, and is also able to enhance the activity of lymphocytes and macrophages due to the phytoncides contained in it. Research by scientists from different countries made it possible to isolate a substance in it (diallyl sulfide), which helps in the fight against malignant neoplasms, in particular, of the stomach, intestines,. In mouse studies, garlic was found to be more effective in treating bladder cancer than BCG therapy.

To achieve a positive effect, it is recommended to eat a large clove of garlic daily, but you should be careful: it is possible to increase the activity of the gastrointestinal tract, the appearance of abdominal pain and even vomiting. Due to some anticoagulant properties, garlic should not be carried away by patients with blood clotting disorders, when taking blood thinners, before surgical interventions.

Onion has similar properties against tumors, but slightly less pronounced, it is also useful as an addition to various dishes.

Relatively recently, antitumor properties were discovered tomatoes. The lycopene they contain has been found to have powerful antioxidant effects. Moreover, when ingested, it does not turn into vitamin A, unlike beta-carotenes, which are present in large quantities in carrots and other "red" vegetables and fruits.

Lycopene not only stimulates the antioxidant properties of the body, but also prevents a decrease in the growth of existing tumors. Studies have shown that eating tomatoes raw, as well as in the form of juice or paste, leads to a decrease in the size of certain types of neoplasia, such as prostate, lung, and breast cancer. In men who participated in the studies of American scientists, a significant decrease in the concentration of prostate-specific antigen, which is a marker of prostate tumor activity, was found. As a preventive measure, tomatoes are effective at a high risk of cervical and intestinal cancer.

The use of tomatoes is not accompanied by any adverse reactions, provided that the vegetables used are of good quality (the absence of nitrates and other pesticides), and to achieve a preventive effect, nutritionists recommend drinking a glass of tomato juice at least once a week.

Broccoli contains in its composition several substances at once that have an antitumor effect - sulforaphane, lutein, indole-3-carbinol. Studies of the anti-cancer properties of this plant were carried out on laboratory animals, and patients with oncopathology who used it regularly were also examined. As a result, scientists have established the effectiveness of broccoli in lung, bladder, prostate and breast cancer. Joint observations of researchers from America and China showed that the risk of lung cancer with regular use of broccoli over a 10-year period is reduced by almost a third, and in men who ate at least 300 g of broccoli per week, the likelihood of a bladder tumor is reduced by almost half.

It is important that a particularly good result can be obtained when using young heads of this cabbage for food, but they should be steamed or boiled for a short period of time. Many nutritionists advise eating broccoli and tomatoes at the same time, thus enhancing the beneficial properties of these vegetables. However, it should be borne in mind that a large amount of fiber contributes to gas formation and even diarrhea, so it is better for people who have intestinal problems not to get carried away with excessive amounts of broccoli.

Other plants of the cruciferous family (white cabbage, cauliflower, watercress) also have similar properties, they are distinguished by excellent taste and safety even when used frequently in large quantities. So, White cabbage able to normalize estrogen levels, thereby preventing the occurrence of breast and prostate cancer. In the presence of precancerous processes in the cervix (dysplasia), the components contained in cabbage stimulate the regression of dangerous changes in the epithelium. In addition to useful qualities, white cabbage is available to everyone all year round, so you can use it constantly and as much as the body takes.

Green tea very useful for the prevention and fight against cancer due to the polyphenols it contains, which have a pronounced antioxidant effect. A similar effect, but somewhat weaker, can be obtained by drinking black tea. By blocking the damaging effect of free radicals, tea enhances the antitumor activity of the body, prevents the progression of existing neoplasms by reducing the intensity of growth of blood vessels in them. Tea drinking traditions are widespread in China, Japan and many Asian countries, therefore, according to statistics, local residents are less likely to get pancreatic, breast, and prostate cancer.

To achieve a positive effect, it is necessary to drink at least three cups of green tea a day, but those who have problems with the heart (arrhythmias) or digestive organs, as well as pregnant women and nursing mothers, should not be overly fond of tea.

Berries, fruits, grapes contain not only a large amount of vitamin C, but also other very useful components. The use of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, citrus fruits, peaches will benefit not only for the purpose of cancer prevention, but also for patients with malignant tumors.

In grapes (especially in the peel and seeds), the substance resveratrol was found, the anticancer activity of which is being studied by scientists from different countries. In experiments on rats, it was found that resveratrol has an antioxidant effect, and also prevents the appearance of genetic mutations in cells. Participating in biochemical processes, this substance blocks the development of inflammatory processes, which are often both the cause and the consequence of tumors at the same time.

You can find recommendations according to which taking small doses of dry red wine prevents cancer, but do not forget that excessive addiction to alcoholic beverages entails the likelihood of tumors of various localizations. Of course, 50 g of wine will not cause harm, but the measure should be observed in everything.

Soy, legumes and cereals are rich in microelements, vitamins, as well as fibers, which are very important for the proper functioning of the digestive system. In addition, they saturate the body with the necessary amount of calories and at the same time do not cause obesity, which is one of the risk factors for malignant tumors. Soy products not only have anti-cancer properties, but also reduce the severity of side effects during radiation or chemotherapy.

Fish It is considered an indispensable component of any healthy diet. Thanks to the omega-3 fatty acids contained in it, it normalizes fat metabolism, prevents the appearance of free radicals and peroxidation in cells. People who prefer fish to fatty meat are less likely to be obese and diabetic, and the risk of tumor recurrence when eating fish dishes is much lower.

In addition to those described, other products also have a beneficial effect. So, honey may be useful in bowel and breast cancer due to anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Brown seaweed, shiitake mushrooms, nuts, olive oil when used in reasonable amounts, they have some antitumor effect.

Features of nutrition in certain types of cancer and treatment

Patients with certain forms of cancer need special nutrition. This is especially true for patients with pathology of the digestive system, patients after surgical interventions, in the appointment of chemotherapy.

Stomach cancer

Meals at fits into table number 1 (gastric), excluding spicy, fried, fatty dishes, an abundance of seasonings. Preference should be given to soups, cereals, pureed meat, various purees, fruits. Foods that increase the secretion of gastric juice (pickled, sour vegetables, alcohol, carbonated drinks) should be removed from the diet. Patients with this form of cancer may suffer from severe nausea, vomiting, and aversion to food, especially meat, so it is better to offer them those foods that are both safe and the patient himself agrees to eat.

In cases of surgical treatment, the diet for stomach cancer involves a complete refusal to take food and water through the mouth for a period of 2 to 6 days of the postoperative period, depending on the type of operation, and all the necessary nutritional components, water, proteins, vitamins, insulin are administered intravenously with using a dropper.

Nutrition after removal of the stomach is determined by the attending physician, but most patients are already allowed to take liquid food, soups, cereals, and sour-milk products after a few days. Approximately one week after the operation, patients are transferred to the table number 1.

bowel cancer

Diet at should be well balanced in terms of essential nutrients and calories, but at the same time, all its components should be easily digested by the affected intestine. Since patients in this group have a high risk of changes in peristalsis with constipation or diarrhea, malabsorption, some rules should be followed:

  1. Fractional nutrition - food should be taken 5-6 times a day in small portions.
  2. Preferably plant foods, vegetables, fruits, fish and vegetable oil. Components that enhance flatulence (grapes, cabbage, confectionery) should be avoided.
  3. It is necessary to exclude alcohol, carbonated drinks, an abundance of seasonings, whole and fresh milk.
  4. It is better to cook dishes for a couple or boil, take food slowly, chewing well.

The same principles should be followed by patients with liver cancer, giving up coffee, alcohol, strong broths, fried and fatty, smoked meats in favor of vegetable dishes and lean meats and fish. As a sweet, it is permissible to use marshmallows, marshmallows, honey is very useful.

Mammary cancer

Women with breast cancer are offered specific recommendations that include some food groups that help fight breast growths. In addition to the basic nutritious diet, nutrition for breast cancer involves the use of:

  1. Soy, but beware of genetically modified soy products, the carcinogenic effects of which have not been conclusively proven, but not refuted by convincing facts.
  2. Vegetables containing carotenoids - pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, etc.
  3. Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids - salmon, cod, haddock, halibut, hake.
  4. Legumes, bran, cereals.

Diet in the postoperative period

Of particular importance is the nutrition of patients after surgery for malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. So, it is recommended to limit fats and easily accessible carbohydrates, salt, but the high protein content of predominantly vegetable origin. Useful cereals, bran, normalizing peristalsis and preventing constipation, and rice and pasta will have to be abandoned.

Patients in the postoperative period can eat dairy products, low-fat fish, eggs, drink tea and jelly. Over time, this list can be expanded, but there will never be a place for alcohol, fried and smoked dishes, condiments, cakes and pastries.

In the presence of a colostomy for removal of stool, patients should observe a good drinking regimen, avoid excess in the diet of cabbage, legumes, eggs, spices, apple and grape juice, nuts, which can cause excessive gas formation and an unpleasant odor.

In each case, dietary recommendations are individual, so before using certain products, it is better to consult with your doctor or nutritionist. Patients and their relatives before discharge receive appropriate instructions on the composition and preparation of food at home.

The diet for stage 4 cancer may have features depending on the location of the neoplasm, but all patients need high-calorie nutrition, since the tumor consumes a significant amount of energy, glucose, vitamins, and amino acids. Cancer cachexia, or simply exhaustion, is the fate of all patients with advanced forms of cancer. In addition to excellent nutrition, patients can be prescribed additional vitamins and minerals in tablets, iron, magnesium, and selenium preparations. Don't be afraid of carbs either. Many people think that since the tumor consumes a large amount of glucose, then you should not use it at all, but it is also necessary to take into account the energy consumption of the patient's body, so filling his own needs is a priority task of nutrition.

Nutrition during chemotherapy

Nutrition during chemotherapy is associated with significant difficulties. It's no secret that chemotherapy drugs are quite toxic and cause a lot of side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, a sharp decrease in appetite, and impaired stool. Only a miracle can induce a patient to eat breakfast or dinner in such conditions. But you still need to eat, the diet will make it easier to endure the treatment, and compliance with certain conditions and culinary tricks can help these patients.

During chemotherapy and in between cycles It is recommended to consume foods from four groups:

  • Protein.
  • Dairy.
  • Bread and cereals.
  • Vegetables and fruits.

The patient's diet should include components from each group. So, protein in the body can come with lean meat, fish, eggs, legumes, soybeans, and they should be consumed at least twice a day.

Dairy products are quite diverse - kefir, fermented baked milk, yogurt, milk, cheese and butter. They need to be taken at least twice a day.

All kinds of cereals and bread are very healthy and rich in B vitamins, as well as easily accessible carbohydrates, so they are divided into four meals during the day.

Vegetables and fruits are considered an indispensable component in the diet of cancer patients. Juices, compotes from dried fruits, fresh salads, stewed vegetables are consumed up to 5 times a day.

With a decrease in appetite, table setting, the appearance of dishes, and spices become important. If there are no contraindications from the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, then the presence of pickled vegetables, sour juices, and sweets in the diet is allowed. Food should be easily accessible, preferably taken in small portions, in a warm form, and on hand you need to have a light snack in the form of cookies, crackers, chocolate.

During chemotherapy, it makes sense to increase the amount of fluid you drink up to two liters per day, but on condition that you are not affected and urine is well excreted. Useful juices - carrot, apple, beetroot, raspberry.

If the patient is concerned about nausea and vomiting, then it is necessary to limit the use of milk, too sweet and fatty foods. It is advisable to do breathing exercises, eat in small portions and not drink plenty of water with food so that the stomach does not overflow unnecessarily. Spices, foods with a strong taste and smell should be abandoned, and immediately before the introduction of chemotherapy drugs, it is better not to eat at all.

Diarrhea is often associated with chemotherapy because the delicate lining of the gastrointestinal tract is very sensitive to such treatment. At the same time, the most sparing diet is recommended, consisting of mashed low-fat dishes, a large amount of liquid. Rice, crackers, jelly, mashed potatoes, bananas contribute to the normalization of the stool. Milk, pastries, legumes should be excluded from the diet.

Despite the usefulness and effectiveness of many products, the treatment of cancer with nutrition in isolation is unacceptable. All of the above recommendations apply to patients who have consulted an oncologist, have undergone or are preparing for surgery, are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation courses. Without the help of a specialist, no diet can cure a malignant tumor.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding so-called alkalizing foods and their role in cancer treatment. It is known that the metabolic processes in the tumor contribute to the acidification of it and surrounding tissues, and supporters of the diet with alkalization of the body argue that the restoration of acid-base balance eliminates the imbalance, reduces the effect of acidic metabolic products and enhances tissue oxygenation. Like it or not, scientists have yet to study, and the list of alkaline foods includes greens, vegetables, fruits, fermented milk drinks, alkaline mineral water. In any case, these components are useful in cancer, regardless of whether they change the pH of the environment, so following such a diet will not cause harm, provided it is full of essential nutrients.

In conclusion, I would like to note that even the most seemingly correct and effective diet is not a panacea for a malignant tumor, but it will only benefit if treated by an oncologist and following all his recommendations, including nutrition. Lead a healthy lifestyle, eat right, move more and get positive emotions, then dangerous diseases will bypass.

In this regard, it is impossible to talk about a general diet for all cancer patients, one should take into account the location and type of the tumor, the stage and course of the disease, the prescribed treatment, i.e., an individual approach to each patient is required.

Comprehensive treatment of malignant tumors requires a significant change in lifestyle and nutrition. What should the patient know about nutrition during the complex treatment? The human body consists of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and water. To maintain and renew tissues, we need a constant supply of these substances. Carbohydrates and fats obtained from food replenish the energy resources of cells necessary to strengthen tissue structures, to form hormones, enzymes, immune substances, which also play a crucial role in metabolic processes. The life of these protein structures does not last long (minutes, hours). Protein from animal foods is completely digested in the intestines and absorbed into the blood. The nutritional value of plant products depends on the proportion of ballast and nutrients.

The energy requirement of the human body at rest is called the basal metabolic rate. Its level is maintained by hormones. A healthy body adapts to various life circumstances. For example, during hunger, a person’s energy reserves are successfully used, and during physical exertion and illness, metabolic processes can be significantly activated.

In cancer patients, the basic metabolism, the regulation of the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates changes significantly depending on the loads during treatment and on the phase of the disease. Therefore, the body reacts painfully to the restriction of food intake. Many people, due to loss of appetite and difficulty in eating, include foods in the daily diet, the energy value of which is from 200 to 1000 kcal. But this is clearly not enough.

To maintain viability, the body of a sick person needs all the nutrients. Reducing some of them for the sake of finding a special diet usually leads to a violation of metabolic processes. The human body cannot maintain a normal metabolic process, and this is fraught with serious changes in the body.

They say: whoever loses weight eats either little or incorrectly. Studies of patients undergoing chemotherapy have shown that maintaining a stable weight depends on the calorific value of food (30 kcal per 1 kg of weight per day is enough). If the daily dose is reduced to 20 kcal per 1 kg of human weight, weight loss is inevitable. To get better, you should increase the dose to 40 kcal.

When choosing food, it is necessary to take into account the recommended ratio of nutrients: carbohydrates - 55%, fats - 30% and proteins - 15%. By the way, healthy people can also take advantage of this advice.

In various situations during the course of the disease, a certain correction of food products is possible.

The most important role in the process of digestion is played by the intestines, in which there is a complex process of digestion of food with the help of digestive juices of the mucous membrane, pancreas and bile. Microparticles of proteins, fats and carbohydrates are delivered by blood to the tissues of organs.

After the surgical removal of a part of the gastrointestinal tract or traumatization of the mucous membrane, the absorption of nutrients decreases, so the food should be of high quality and easily digestible. Reducing the volume of food affects the mental state of the patient, as he feels weak, there are doubts about recovery.

A reasonable diet is not a weapon against an existing tumor, but a prerequisite for improving the patient's condition.

Some patients after surgery, for example, with skin cancer, do not experience physical restrictions. They only need recommendations for general rehabilitation. At the same time, after operations on the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, patients need to maintain a certain lifestyle with appropriate changes in the diet. Many patients suffer from loss of appetite, intolerance to certain foods.

Nutritional problems may arise during the course of treatment. With tumors of the liver, there may be swelling or a significant increase in it. Due to pressure on the stomach and adjacent parts of the intestine, there may be a feeling of pressure (expansion) in the upper abdomen, failures in the process of emptying the stomach from food. Since the liver is the most important organ involved in digestion and neutralization of toxic substances, a violation of its function requires a change in the diet.

· Avoid foods that cause bloating, as well as meat, coffee beans.

· To improve the functional state of the liver, artichokes, watercress, infusions with dandelion, yarrow, centaury and wormwood are recommended.

Of the common problems that arise in cancer patients, exhaustion (cachexia) can be distinguished. This sometimes life-threatening weight loss can occur when a person eats little (lack of appetite, intolerance to meat and meat products, a feeling of rapid satiety after stomach surgery, etc.); the disease was detected at an advanced stage, when significant energy costs are required. Often, unexplained weight loss is the first sign of cancer, in which the need for energy resources and nutrients increases.

It is necessary to choose a special diet and monitor its implementation in order to improve the general condition of a person and create the prerequisites for successful treatment.

An important role is played by a properly constructed process of eating. The human digestive tract is a complex multifunctional system. First, the food in the mouth is crushed and processed by saliva. Already here, special enzymes (enzymes, biocatalysts) begin to work, regulating and accelerating metabolic processes. Further processing of food gruel occurs in the stomach with the help of gastric juice. In the small intestine, bile acids and pancreatic enzymes are involved in the digestive process. The most important nutrients are absorbed into the blood through the intestinal mucosa. In the large intestine, the final absorption of fluid and the formation of feces occurs. In order for our digestive system to work optimally, certain rules must be followed. When food is swallowed quickly, it does not go through the initial processing stage, and as a result, the body does not receive the necessary substances. In addition, often the feeling of rapid and complete saturation occurs faster. Therefore, it is important not to rush while eating and chew food well. Then the feeling of normal satiety will come, although you will eat less, but with more pleasure.

One of the most serious problems in the life of the patient is the support of the family. Oncological pathology and the associated need for long and complex treatment impose an additional burden on the patient, relatives and friends. The patient has a fear of illness and, possibly, future helplessness. At the same time, he is burdened by the need to shift the burden of care to others. And sometimes the excessive guardianship of relatives irritates him.

Changes in taste habits provoked by disorders associated with treatment, the need to change the daily routine sometimes lead to conflict situations in the family. Of course, the patient must first of all understand what worries him, discuss the situation with relatives.

Sometimes the following question arises: is it better for the patient to eat with relatives or separately? Sometimes you want to eat slowly alone, but a family meal often causes a burst of energy and a desire to eat more. In addition, a friendly atmosphere at the table and a beautifully laid table increase your appetite!

When planning your diet, you have to sacrifice not only your favorite dishes, but also change the daily routine. If earlier it was possible to get by with two or three meals a day, now, due to the above reasons, you have to eat 5 times a day, and sometimes more often. Despite press reports about the need to limit food intake in the morning, cancer patients should not miss this time in order to avoid further weight loss.

Energy-intensive foods are chosen to reinforce strength: wholemeal bread with butter, muesli, cereal cereals, etc. It is better not to use black tea and coffee because of the possibility of irritation of the digestive tract. Fruit teas are an alternative, and milk drinks will give extra energy. Don't miss the opportunity to eat something. You can pick up delicious, light, nutritious meals that do not burden the stomach.

In order for dishes from vegetables and fruits to retain vitamins and minerals, look appetizing and tasty, you should follow some simple rules. It is known that most vitamins are in fresh vegetables, so it is best to use the seasonal gifts of nature. In winter, you can use frozen vegetables and fruits that contain a sufficient amount of vitamins and retain their taste and nutrients for a long time.

Proper food preparation is of great importance. It is undesirable to soak vegetables and fruits in water for a long time in order to free them from nitrates, as vitamins and minerals are lost. Peel from apples, pears, carrots and other vegetables and fruits should be cut thinly, since under it is the bulk of the vitamins. Carrots are recommended to be cleaned with a special brush, and not with a knife. It is advisable to wash and cut vegetables and fruits immediately before cooking and eat immediately, since vitamins are destroyed under the influence of oxygen. In addition, the appearance of the products also changes, as a result, the dish does not cause appetite.

When heated, vegetables lose a significant amount of vitamins, their usual flavor changes. It is more useful to stew vegetables over medium heat in their own juice. When cooking in water, most of the vitamins and minerals are destroyed.

However, some vegetables need to be boiled to destroy the harmful substances in them and prevent them from entering the body. This applies primarily to green beans and green beans. It is important to know that fresh cabbage prevents the accumulation of iodine in the thyroid gland. The carotene contained in stewed carrots is digested well, while the starch found in raw potatoes is poorly digested. When eating raw carrots, it is advisable to add vegetable oil or sour cream.

The question often arises as to how much of the diet should be given to raw food. I note that it is impossible to develop a single norm for all people. It would be ideal if at least half of your daily diet consisted of fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, vegetable oil and milk. Of course, individual tolerance of various products should be taken into account. In addition, raw foods are more likely to cause an allergic reaction than boiled foods. Therefore, each person needs to select the most acceptable set of dishes for him.

For thousands of years, bread and cereals have been the main food of man. In recent years, they have lost their leading positions in developed countries. And in vain, since a full-fledged grain contains all the nutrients necessary for the body: carbohydrates (in starch), proteins - from 7 to 12%, fats - from 2 to 7% (with a good set of useful fatty acids), vitamins (primarily B1 and E), minerals (eg, iron). We must not forget about the fiber necessary for regular emptying and binding of harmful substances in the intestines. At the same time, preference is given to products made from wholemeal flour. More thorough processing of grain leads to a significant loss of its nutritional value.

The ratio of vitamins and minerals in various varieties of grain products

Meals made from grains usually do not contain fats that are harmful to the body, and when combined with milk, vegetables and fruits, they are a complete meal. Most vegetables and fruits contain little energy, but are rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements, ballast substances. · Limit the intake of foods that irritate the mucous membrane of the digestive tract (spicy, salty, fried foods), as well as coffee and alcoholic beverages.

· If the smell of hot food bothers you, try eating it cold.

· With vomiting and diarrhea, it is imperative to restore the lost volume of fluid and salt.

Nutrition for certain complaints of patients

In the process of the development of the disease, as well as complex treatment, patients often have complaints that characterize certain changes in the body. So the reason for the weakening of appetite in cancer patients is not only dejection, fear of the disease and its consequences, but also changes in the body. Often the feeling of hunger or satiety is lost, taste sensations are transformed.

In addition, there are side effects of special treatment: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chewing and swallowing disorders due to the inflammatory process. They lead to loss of appetite, and then to exhaustion.

If you experience the above symptoms, you can use the following tips to help you eat normally.

· For nausea, eat dried cookies in the morning (crispbread, toast, muffin, etc.).

Avoid irritating odors, ventilate the apartment more often. It is advisable not to cook on your own and be more in the air.

· Drink frequently, but always between meals, so as not to overfill your stomach. It is advisable to drink 2.5-3 liters of liquid during the day, increasing this amount with vomiting or diarrhea. It can be teas from a mixture of peppermint, fennel and chamomile, they are best drunk chilled. Sometimes you can use compote, sherbet and dry biscuits. Mineral water is preferable without gas.

It is advisable to cook meals in small portions.

· You need to have stocks of frozen food so that you can quickly prepare the necessary dish.

· If you change your taste sensations, add fresh herbs, garlic and onions (possibly in powder form), various sauces to your food. Meat and fish can be marinated with fruit juice, soy sauce or wine. If you don't like meat, you should include dairy products, eggs, tofu in your diet.

In case of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth, stomach, intestines, avoid very sweet, sour and bitter foods and drinks (tomatoes, vinegar, citrus fruits, including juices, coffee). Vegetable and fruit juices are best tolerated diluted. Be careful about foods and drinks that cause increased secretion of gastric juice (meat, fish, meat broth, milk, beer, coffee and white wine).

· If chewing and swallowing is difficult, preference is given to soft foods: soups and cereals from vegetables, potatoes, finely ground grains, as well as soft buns, rice, soft cheese, ice cream, fruits, jelly, puddings, baby food (if necessary).

· With a decrease in salivation, which occurs as a result of radiation therapy, preference is given to soft and liquid food. Drink lemon and peppermint tea, malt beer and mineral water in small portions, but quite often. To improve salivation, you can use kefir or yogurt (fresh milk is not suitable). Chewing gum, sour sweets and fruits also increase salivation. The diet includes juicy dishes (with sauce), soups, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Dry foods are best avoided. You can add to food 2-3 tbsp. tablespoons of sour cream, butter or full-fledged margarine.

· If you have diarrhea, you should limit the consumption of fresh fruits, salads and vegetables that cause bloating. Useful bananas, grated apples and carrots. Recommended dietary cereals or mucous decoctions of cereal products (oats, rice, wheat, flaxseeds), crispbread, unsweetened crackers, mashed potatoes, fat-free cottage cheese. It is advisable to drink tea from chamomile, fennel, flax seeds.

· Preference is given to foods rich in ballast substances that stimulate intestinal activity: cereals, wholemeal bread, legumes, grain products (oats, millet, barley), raw and boiled vegetables and fruits. Useful mucous infusions of flaxseeds and oats.

Constipation in cancer patients occurs for various reasons. This may be due to malnutrition, complications as a result of treatment, occur due to the mechanical pressure of the tumor on the intestine or squeezing the intestine due to fluid collecting in the abdominal cavity. Usually prescribe special drugs, and if necessary, make an enema. To prevent constipation, the correct choice of food and sufficient fluid intake (at least 2 liters per day) are important. The liquid is drunk during the day in small portions, but on an empty stomach you should drink 1-2 glasses of water.

Weight loss leads to a decrease in efficiency, disruption of metabolic processes, weakening of the immune system, deterioration of wound healing after operations and injuries, insufficient response of the tumor to the treatment (chemo- and radiation therapy). Reducing food intake adversely affects the course of the disease.

Lack of appetite is a protective reaction of the body to the appearance of a malignant tumor. It is known that with every serious illness (infection, surgery, trauma, heart attack, etc.), active substances are formed in the body that contribute to a rather rapid recovery of a person after a short-term load. Cancer development of the process occurs differently: before the diagnosis is established, a malignant tumor grows for a long time and is asymptomatic. All this time, the body is fighting against a neoplasm that has not yet been identified with the help of protective substances of the immune system. The result of it is often a loss of appetite with corresponding consequences. Unfortunately, many people (most often women) enjoy a slight decrease in appetite and an improving figure until they know the diagnosis: "cancer".

According to studies, by the time of diagnosis, 40% of patients report an unexplained 10% weight loss, and another 25% of patients indicate that they have lost 20% of their weight. True, the ratio of loss of appetite and weight is different and depends on the type of tumor. Usually, when prostate or breast cancer is detected, patients do not complain of sudden weight loss, which cannot be said about patients with tumors of the colon, stomach, esophagus, lungs, and pancreas.

Why is weight loss so dangerous? During the period of the body's struggle with a cancerous tumor, a violation of the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fat occurs, which increases with weight loss. Further weakening of the immune system reduces the response of tumor tissues to ongoing treatment, jeopardizes its outcome, and makes it difficult to fight possible infectious diseases.

Another cause of malnutrition is possible pain when eating, caused by postoperative scarring, treatment (radiation or chemotherapy). Decreased food intake may be due to mucosal inflammation.

Pain can be caused by a swallowing disorder when the area of the esophagus is irradiated. In such cases, it is better to eat liquid or mushy food in small portions. In no case should you endure pain, as they are a manifestation of stress and thus contribute to the weakening of the immune system. Reasonable use of painkillers in some cases eliminates pain and increases human performance. Sometimes in the course of treatment there are violations of taste. They may be associated with transient damage to the taste nerves during chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Violation of metabolic processes leads to a deficiency of a number of useful substances in the body, such as zinc or vitamins. In such cases, the patient often refuses certain types of meat, sausages or sweets. By changing the way you cook and process food, you can significantly improve your health.

It is necessary to look for any opportunities to diversify food so that it is able to excite the appetite. The smell, look and taste of food, the aesthetic design of the table to increase appetite are important. Sometimes, just looking at the food, a lump gets stuck in the throat, if boiled vegetables, colorless meat with dripping fat are sloppily thrown on the plate.

During treatment, the motto in nutrition should be the words: "The fresher, the better." Raw or lightly processed vegetables and fruits are served in small portions. And you will have to work hard to decorate the dish with strips of potatoes, slices of cucumber and radish, tomatoes, lettuce, which can be supplemented with a couple of juicy berries and grapes.

Although food should be rich in calories, it should not look greasy. Seasoning plays an important role. You can use lemon juice, various roots and herbs, with which the dishes are given the desired taste. For example, peppermint promotes salivation and bile secretion, dill reduces bloating and satiety, basil improves appetite and digestion, coriander reduces pain in the stomach and the feeling of oversaturation, lovage can successfully fight bloating, thyme has a positive effect on the function of digestive juices, and Ginger improves appetite and digestion.

Previously, there was a widespread belief that sugar-containing foods contribute to the growth of a malignant tumor. Cancer cells do need an energy supply, but it does not depend on increasing the proportion of fat and sugar in the patient's diet. To prevent protein loss, and consequently, a decrease in muscle mass, it is necessary to increase the amount of protein-containing foods in food.

A few additional tips.

· It is necessary to always have a supply of food in the house, so that in case of a sudden appearance of hunger, it would be easy to satisfy it. Preference should be given to fast-cooked meals.

Use complete starchy foods (rice, vermicelli, soybeans, legumes).

· Vegetables in any form should be included in the menu of each meal.

· Food should contain enough fat (butter, sour cream, cheeses, vegetable oil, nuts).

Fatty fish (herring, mackerel, tuna) are especially useful.

Eat milk and dairy products, eggs, beans, soy and baked goods more often.

If the patient cannot take food through the mouth, then, in order to avoid weight loss, they give liquid full-fledged food or, in extreme cases, organize artificial nutrition using a gastric tube or intravenous (parenteral) administration of nutrient solutions. In any case, you should resort to artificial feeding as little as possible.

Uric acid control

Many cancer patients develop an aversion to protein foods: first meat, then poultry, fish, eggs and dairy products. At the same time, it must be taken into account that during treatment, due to the destruction of the tumor, the level of uric acid in the blood may increase, which leads to the occurrence of gout - the deposition of uric acid salts in the joints. This disease can also be a consequence of the destruction of cells in leukemia (leukemia). To prevent additional formation of uric acid from meat products, it is necessary to satisfy the body's need for protein (protein) through eggs, cheese and other dairy products. When signs of gout appear, a person can go without meat for quite a long time, given the recommendations presented in the book. Patients with gout are allowed to drink coffee, cocoa, tea. But I advise you to consume weak alcoholic beverages in small doses and as rarely as possible.

With gout, it is advisable to monitor the content of uric acid in foods. The total intake of uric acid in the body per day should not exceed 300 mg, and in a severe process - 2 times less.

Is there an alternative "cancer" diet?

Most cancer patients strive to get well, so it is not surprising that they look for various alternative diets, hoping for their beneficial effects. It is possible to influence the course of the disease, strengthen the immune system, increase physical tone with the help of catering. Many people come to this conclusion, believing that dietary disorders, perhaps indirectly, were a prerequisite for the disease. Now it is necessary to correct the mistakes, move on to a full-fledged healthy food with a significant increase in the proportion of vegetables and fruits in it.

Some people hope to stop the development of the disease by taking large doses of vitamins (A, C, E) and antioxidants that prevent the oxidative process in cells. However, this tactic usually does not work.

Sometimes the concept of “healthy eating” is misunderstood, the advice to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits is understood as the rejection of animal foods. A complete transition to a vegetarian diet for cancer patients is unacceptable, since if the function of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract is impaired, the body needs the usual, complete and easily digestible food. By the way, even in the diets recommended for preventive purposes, only the restriction of meat and meat products and certain methods of their processing are indicated.

The search for a rational diet for cancer patients is essential. Most of them are looking for any opportunity, any alternative ways to fight the disease in order to support and strengthen the medical therapy program. Unfortunately, many recommendations from relatives and friends are meaningless and useless, since their positive effect is not scientifically proven.

In the media, you will find advice that is clearly promotional in nature. Their use without taking into account the condition of a particular patient can only bring harm; further weight loss and weakening of the body's defenses are inevitable. Lost time for radical treatment is irreplaceable.

Let's try to understand and evaluate the most famous dietary recommendations.

german doctor S. Kuhl(Kuhl) proposes the use of lactic acid products as a protection against cancer. A dairy-vegetarian diet is recommended with a predominant intake of butter, sour milk, yogurt, and cheese. This diet excludes animal fats (except for dairy products), sugar, honey, and foods containing starch: white bread, pies, pasta, etc. The author believes that this diet improves metabolic processes in cells, including cancerous ones. , fermentation is significantly reduced in them, which leads to an improvement in the patient's condition. His theory is based on the findings of the 1931 Nobel Prize winner, Professor O. Warburg(Warburg) who came to the conclusion that fermentation in cells and lack of oxygen are responsible for the development of malignant tumors. However, the latest research has shown that fermentation in cancer cells is not a cause, but a consequence of the growth of neoplasms.

Director of the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Bochum (Germany) Professor H. Zabel(Zabel) considers rational nutrition as the basis for the treatment of cancer patients, without which it is impossible to achieve a positive result. Based on the conclusions of O. Warburg, he also believes that using certain products, it is possible to achieve the necessary change in metabolic processes in cells. Such products include skimmed milk, sour-milk products, wholemeal flour and cereals, raw (vegetable) food, boiled vegetables, vegetable oils with a high content of unsaturated fatty acids. Fatty, protein-rich and sugar-rich foods are prohibited. Perhaps rare consumption of lean beef or veal, sweets with fruit sugar.

Swiss dietitian M. Bircher-Benner(Bircher-Benner) considers an increase in the level of uric acid in the body to be a serious risk factor and advises to refrain from eating meat, preferring fresh vegetables and fruits. However, maintaining an acid-base balance is a condition of many "alternative" diets, and the recommendation to limit the consumption of meat products is consistent with current knowledge.

There is an opinion that beets can slow down the growth of the tumor. However, recent studies by scientists have shown that the authors of this concept overestimated the role of a number of substances (aminosinic acid, vitamins and minerals), which, however, are contained in beets in small quantities. One can agree with the suggestion of some experts to use red beet preparations to support classical cancer therapy.

One of the special diets according to the American doctor M. Gerzon(Gerson) consists of demineralized foods: juices, raw and boiled vegetables and fruits, salads, potatoes, oatmeal, demineralized rye bread. It is assumed that the diet normalizes metabolic processes in the body. It is also additionally recommended to give the patient cleansing enemas and give artificial gastric juice. Unfortunately, practical evidence of the usefulness of this theory does not yet exist.

Doctor R. Leopold(Leupold) prescribed to his patients a diet devoid of sugar and foods containing starch. In addition, he prescribed insulin, a hormone that lowers blood sugar levels. Clinical testing has shown the inconsistency of these recommendations. At the same time, there is a danger of a decrease in the amount of sugar in the blood below normal levels, which can lead to a sharp deterioration in health.

A number of authors advise a vegetarian diet with the addition of drugs that include hydrocyanic acid, like the one found in apricot kernels (amygdalin), as well as vitamins A, B, C, E and pancreatic digestive juice. American scientists have not found any benefit from this diet, emphasizing the danger of the toxic effects of amygdalin.

The author of the modern concept macrobiotic nutrition is D. Osawa. The term "macrobiotics" is borrowed from the ancient Greek philosophy of the era of Hippocrates ( macro- great, all-round; bio- vital). Macrobiotics can be characterized as the doctrine of the rules, the observance of which ensures a person's longevity. It originated in Japan under the influence of Eastern mystical beliefs. According to Osawa, a person can recover by including in his diet products with different "energy" orientation - yin and yang. In the interpretation of D. Osawa, the concept of "yin" has an acid reaction of the product; "yang" - alkaline. As a basis for assigning products to a particular category, he takes the content of potassium or sodium in them.

Yin foods

Strong: potatoes, tomatoes, fruits, sugar, honey, yeast, chocolate, coffee, tea.

Moderate: milk, butter and vegetable oil, nuts.

Weak: root and tubers, wheat bread.

Yang products

Strong: hard cheeses, eggs.

Moderate: cereals (rye, barley, rice, buckwheat, oatmeal).

Weak: wholemeal bread, legumes, corn.

Macrobiotics is not just one of the types of nutrition, but rather a kind of worldview, which is based on the possibility of using the vital energy of food to preserve and develop physical and mental health, spiritual improvement. According to D. Osawa, the recommended lifestyle helps to get rid of any disease, including cancer. In this case, surgical or medical treatment is rejected. The disadvantage of such diets is the restriction of essential nutrients entering the body, which can lead to metabolic disorders.

There are many recommendations to treat malignant tumors by fasting. For example, the Austrian healer R. Broyce offers a 42-day fasting course using vegetable juices and herbal infusions. However, you are mistaken if you think that a tumor can be "starved to death." Rather the opposite. Significant weight loss and weakening of the body are dangerous for patients. Malignant neoplasms ignore the laws inherent in the human body, live by their own rules, receive the necessary nutrition, regardless of the needs of their "owner". We observe a similar picture during pregnancy. A developing child is an independent organism, which, protecting its own interests, receives nutrients from the mother's blood, without caring about the state of her health. For a cancer patient, fasting is not the path to health.

Modern research has shown that so far there is no diet that could save a person from a malignant tumor or replace traditional treatment.

Cancer… Most people take this diagnosis as a death sentence. Indeed, despite certain advances in modern medicine, thousands of people die from cancer every year. Meanwhile, there are real facts indicating that many forms of cancer are treated quite successfully. Since cancer is a systemic disease of the whole organism, the methods of its treatment should be comprehensive and complex. The best option is a reasonable combination of methods used in both official and alternative medicine, taking into account the individuality of each patient. Currently, more and more practical oncologists are inclined to think about the benefits of medicinal plants in the complex treatment of cancer. Last year we published a whole series of materials devoted to herbal medicine for a number of oncological diseases. Their author - phytologist Andrey ZALOMLENKOV - has a long experience of practical activity in this direction. Creating healing phyto-collections on the basis of his own harvested medicinal plants, he achieved good results in the treatment of malignant neoplasms. Today we complete this cycle. Andrey Zalomlenkov answers questions from our readers.

Despite the fact that radio and chemotherapy are considered in official medicine to be the most effective in the treatment of malignant neoplasms, since they actively kill cancer cells or inhibit their growth, however, their use, as a rule, damages healthy cells. As a result, many patients die not so much from the disease itself, but as a result of subsequent complications. The advantage of medicinal herbs is that they rarely cause unwanted side effects, while having the ability to increase the body's resistance in the fight against the disease.

WHAT is your attitude to the treatment of cancer according to the method of R. Broys, which is based on long-term fasting on juices?

Negative, as well as to any type of fasting in cancer. The body is already depleted, and the tumor, contrary to the opinion that during fasting “everything unnecessary is absorbed”, does not react in any way to abstinence from food. It is necessary to adhere to a rational diet that provides the body with all the nutrients and does not provoke the acceleration of tumor growth. The following recommendations are most important.

  • In the diet of the patient, it is necessary to limit the intake of animal fats, especially dairy. Do not cook porridge with milk. Sour-milk products are acceptable in small quantities, with the exception of salty and fatty cheeses.
  • Limit sweets and salt (2-3 teaspoons of honey per day are allowed).
  • Exclude from the diet premium wheat flour and all products from it (bread, pasta, cakes, muffins). These products should be replaced with products made from wholemeal flour, as well as breads made from whole or sprouted grains.
  • Chicken eggs are allowed, but not more than 3 pieces per week. If possible, it is better to introduce quail eggs into the diet.
  • All vegetables are allowed, with the exception of legumes (beans, peas). Particularly useful are cauliflower, red and Brussels sprouts, turnips, radishes (not spicy), sweet red peppers, and garlic. The consumption of potatoes should be limited.
  • All fruits and juices from them are allowed, except for very sweet ones (dates, figs, sweet grapes). Particularly useful are pomegranates, apricots, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, irga and citrus fruits. Strawberries, strawberries, gooseberries contain ellagic acid, which has an antitumor effect.
  • Black tea and coffee are excluded. They can be replaced with green or yellow tea, which is recommended to drink with the addition of 1 teaspoon of licorice syrup and a pinch of ginger to 1 glass of tincture. You can drink coffee drinks based on chicory and cereals.
  • Meat consumption should be limited. Lean poultry meat is acceptable (150-200 g 2 times a week). If possible, meat is replaced with soy products (soy milk, tofu cheese, soy meat and oil). These products are believed to have a specific protective anti-cancer effect.
  • Seafood (seaweed, fish) can be consumed in the same way as meat - no more than 2 times a week. Mussels, shrimps, oysters are especially recommended.
  • Nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pistachios) are allowed, but peanuts and products containing them are excluded. Sesame seeds have a specific anti-cancer effect. They are fried a little in a dry frying pan and added in ground form to food at 0.5–1 teaspoon per day.

The so-called cedar milk or cream works well and gives strength, which are prepared as follows: unroasted pine nut kernels are ground in a mortar with a small amount of hot boiled water and squeezed in gauze. Eat up to a quarter cup 2 times a day.

From vegetable oils, it is necessary, if possible, to add oil from pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, and corn to food. They must be fresh. To improve the intestinal microflora and regeneration processes, 20–25 drops of essential oil (sage, basil, anise, dill or rose) can be added to 0.5 l of vegetable oil. This flavored oil is good to use for salads.

To enrich the diet with vitamin E, it is recommended to make sea buckthorn (the method of preparation is known), carrot, viburnum (from the pomace of berries, similar to sea buckthorn) oil and oil from fresh calendula flowers. In addition to vitamin E, the daily diet should be supplemented with vitamins A (in the recommended dosages) and C (0.25 g 3 times a day). Vitamins A and E can be used in the form of the Aevit complex. At the same time, you can not take multivitamin complexes containing vitamins B6, B2, B1, which stimulate the growth of cancer cells.

  • In no case should you eat moldy foods, even if the mold is only on the surface.

Shown are food supplements of natural enterosorbents that absorb and remove poisons and toxins from the body. These include specially processed rye and wheat bran, which are commercially available. For the same purposes, beetroot, carrot, pumpkin cakes are taken orally.

  • It is recommended to reduce the total caloric content of the diet.
  • It is useful to eat various mushrooms, which, although they are considered heavy food, however, have a pronounced antitumor effect. This is especially pronounced in such mushrooms as white, boletus, boletus, puffball, honey agaric, oyster mushroom, shiitake (Japanese mushroom). If during their use there are difficulties with digestion, it is permissible to take enzyme preparations (festal, mezim and others).
  • An obligatory element of treatment is porridge on the water. For their preparation, cereals of corn, oats, rice, buckwheat are used.
  • As a matter of course, alcohol is excluded from the diet (except for the one that is part of medicinal tinctures).

When following such a diet, it is important to monitor regular bowel movements. This is a very important point. Following these recommendations, you can significantly reduce the risk of tumor recurrence or the appearance of metastases.

What foods have the strongest anti-cancer effect?

The first is green tea. According to the Chinese Research Institute of Oncology, which studied more than 100 different foods, it was green tea that showed the most pronounced anti-cancer effect. A rich set of biologically active substances in green tea actively counteracts cell mutations under the influence of carcinogenic factors. On average, the resistance coefficient is 65%, and for some varieties of tea it reaches 80%. For the prevention of cancer, it is enough to consume 5-6 g of green tea leaves per day (tea is poured with boiling water 2-3 times and must be drunk fresh).

What is better to use for the treatment of adenoma: hazel leaves or its bark?

For treatment, I recommend taking better bark (necessarily spring collection, harvested during sap flow). 2–3 tbsp. boil spoons of bark in 0.5 l of water for 30 minutes (in a water bath), insist for 3 hours, strain and drink the prepared portion of the broth fractionally during the day. The course of treatment - up to 1 month, break - 5-7 days. It is advisable to alternate the intake of a decoction of hazel bark with a tincture of spring aspen bark. Infuse 50 g of bark in 0.5 l of vodka for 2 weeks and take 30-40 drops 4 times a day.

My daughter has a brain tumor, fluid accumulates. Is it possible to do without surgery, using alternative methods of treatment?

The brain is protected by a special blood-brain barrier, which does not allow most medicinal substances to pass into its tissues. Therefore, a radical method of treating tumors in the brain remains surgical intervention. At the stage of nursing the patient, it is possible and necessary to connect adaptogens, immunomodulators and other therapeutic agents that affect the overall resistance of the body.

I was diagnosed with fibrocystic breast cancer. A friend says: "Give birth to a child - everything will resolve itself." Is it possible?

Quite. During pregnancy, a restructuring of the hormonal status of a woman occurs, and since such formations are hormonally dependent, in some cases they either completely disappear or significantly decrease in size. So give birth to health! Just try to breastfeed your baby for at least six months.

They found polyps in my rectum, besides, I also suffer from a crack in it. Is there a danger that all this can turn into cancer? I'm afraid of the operation. Maybe do an enema with celandine?

There is a danger of degeneration of such formations into a cancerous tumor, so I would not recommend you take risks. It is better to remove polyps in time and heal the crack. After that, it will already be possible to think about the prevention of relapses.

I have been suffering from hemorrhoids for a long time. I'm afraid he'll turn into cancer. What to do?

Hemorrhoids do not turn into cancer, but with any discharge of blood from the rectum, a thorough examination by a proctologist should be carried out. You should not be afraid and shy - now there are many effective ways to radically cure hemorrhoids.

Is it possible to use homemade tincture from thuja shoots to treat prostate adenoma?

Yes, you can. To prepare the tincture, fresh thuja needles are infused with vodka in a ratio of 1:5 for 2 weeks in a dark place. It is taken for a long time, 20-25 drops 3-4 times a day, half an hour before meals.

Please tell us about wen. How can I get rid of them without resorting to surgery?

Zhirovik is popularly called a benign tumor - a lipoma. The prerequisites for its occurrence in the vast majority of cases are created during the period of embryonic development. When laying the adipose tissue of the embryo, islands of cells are formed in which metabolic processes are absent or sharply slowed down. Of these cells, lipomas grow - most often single, less often multiple.

Often this disease is hereditary. Wen can also occur as a result of a bruise or constant mechanical irritation of some part of the body. Lipomas develop mainly in the subcutaneous tissue on the head, neck, back, and in the armpits. Usually wen are painless. However, sometimes when they grow, the nerve endings are compressed, and pain occurs.

Lipomas grow very slowly, over decades. Although these tumor formations are only a cosmetic defect, doctors usually recommend that they be removed. The fact is that sometimes lipomas begin to grow rapidly, reaching enormous sizes, putting pressure on the surrounding tissues and can fester. Some try to get rid of wen by fasting, but this is completely useless and dangerous, since their growth can accelerate dramatically.

With small single wen, you can try to get rid of them according to the following popular recipe. Take the ripe fruits of laconos (phytolacca) - an ornamental plant that amateur gardeners breed in their plots, grind to a mushy state and apply to the affected area of \u200b\u200bthe skin. Procedures are performed for a long time - up to a month or more. In some cases, lipomas are opened, the wound is cleaned and heals without consequences. However, before undertaking such treatment, it is better to consult a doctor.

Among my relatives there are patients with stomach and breast cancer. Someone advised them to be treated with creosote and creolin. What are these substances, where can they be obtained and how can they be used for treatment?

Creosote is a product of the dry distillation of beech wood. It is a poisonous burning liquid with a specific odor. It is used to impregnate wood in order to prevent its decay. There is a homeopathic recipe for the treatment of breast cancer (even in the stage of tumor decay). To prepare the medicine, 1 ml of pure creosote is dissolved in 100 ml of 70% alcohol, then 1 ml of this solution is taken and again dissolved in 100 ml of alcohol. Then again take 1 ml of the resulting dilution and mix with 100 ml of alcohol. The resulting homeopathic remedy is taken 20-25 drops and a half glass of water 3 times a day half an hour before meals.

As for creolin, it is an oily brown poisonous liquid used externally in veterinary medicine. The people know the recipe for the treatment of stomach cancer (even with liver metastases) with this drug. On the first day, take 1 drop of pure creolin mixed in a quarter glass of milk - in the morning and in the evening. On the second day, the dose is increased to 2 drops. In the following days, add 1 drop and reach up to 7 drops 2 times a day (with good tolerance of the drug - up to 10 drops). Then the dose is reduced in descending order to 1 drop 2 times a day. After that, a break of 7-10 days is taken and the course is repeated.

In some cases, instead of creolin, medical tar or a mixture of it with creolin (equally) is used. It should be remembered about the toxicity of these drugs, do not allow them to get inside in their pure form. During treatment, it is recommended to use medicinal herbs-hepatoprotectors. Best of all - hill hodgepodge and milk thistle (oil, extract or ready-made pharmaceutical preparations).

My aunt was diagnosed with polyps in her urethra. They were removed surgically, but after a while they reappeared. What can be done to help her?

Any polyps have a risk of degenerating into a malignant tumor over time, so they must be removed in a timely manner. Unfortunately, polyps tend to recur. If during the urological examination there was no suspicion of changes in the nature of the polyps, then you can be treated according to this prescription.

At the beginning of summer, you need to collect flowers from a young oak tree and dry them. For the preparation of a healing potion 3 tbsp. spoons of dry raw materials are poured into 300 ml of boiling water and infused in a thermos for 8 hours, then filtered. With the resulting infusion, local baths are made - in the morning and in the evening - for 15 minutes, or tampons are soaked with this infusion, which are left all night. If after a month there is no improvement, then you should consult your doctor.

Heard about the miracle cure for cancer from wormwood. Where is it produced and how effective is it?

We are talking about Arglabin, the first effective anticancer drug registered in Kazakhstan. It was invented by professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Sergazy Adekenov. The effectiveness of the new drug has been confirmed by studies carried out at the American Cancer Center, as well as at the Karaganda Cancer Center.

The drug inhibits the growth of cancer cells and strengthens the immune system, helps in the treatment of AIDS patients. Unfortunately, "Arglabin" can only be produced from special types of wormwood growing in the steppes of Central Kazakhstan. Let's hope that the new medicine will eventually enter the medical practice of Russian doctors. It is a pity if this successful development of our neighbors "leaves" to the West, and then, as often happens, will return from there to us in Russia in the form of an expensive medicine that is inaccessible to most of our compatriots.

Is it possible to eat sea buckthorn berries with oncological disease of the gastrointestinal tract?

Yes, of course, if there is no individual intolerance. This recipe can be of great help. Take 1 kg of sea buckthorn berries, rinse them thoroughly with boiled water. Then lightly crush the berries and pour 2 kg of honey, mix. Insist in a dark place for at least a month. Take one quarter cup 3-4 times a day, one hour after meals. Sometimes sea buckthorn berries are mixed equally with viburnum berries.

What folk remedy can be used for tumors of the lymph nodes?

One of the recipes is as follows: take 3 kg of Siberian fir shoots, rinse with cold water. Grind 1 kg of raspberry roots (forest, from young plants), 0.5 kg of blood-red geranium roots and 0.5 kg of cinquefoil roots. Lay the crushed plants in a layer about 2 fingers thick on the bottom of 3-liter jars, cover them with a layer of honey of the same thickness on top, then lay the plants again, honey on them, and so on to the very “shoulders” of the jars.

Then pour hot water up to the neck. Simmer in a water bath (in an enameled bucket) for 6 hours. After that, let it brew for two days. The resulting liquid take 1 tbsp. spoon 4 times a day half an hour before meals for adults and 1 teaspoon for children.

I have been in cancer treatment for a long time. He underwent chemotherapy, drank aconite and hemlock. I heard that the occurrence and course of tumors are influenced by geopathic zones in the dwelling. How to identify them and neutralize their harmful effects on the body?

Yes, indeed, according to some data, geopathogenic zones, if they are located in places of permanent residence of a person, contribute to the emergence of various diseases (including cancer). Of course, this does not happen immediately, but after 10–12 years of continuous exposure to the body. Unfortunately, the influence of geopathogenic zones is not taken into account either in housing construction or in the organization of jobs.

How to identify dangerous areas? Devices for determining geopathogenic zones are currently being produced (announcements about this can be found in periodicals or in specialized publications). You may have to rearrange the furniture and radically change the interior of your apartment. But what can you do for your health?

By the way, it also happens that in some apartments the walls “glow”, that is, the radioactive radiation from them exceeds the natural (normal) background by several times. If there is such a suspicion, try to call specialists from the sanitary and epidemiological station for a check, or purchase a portable dosimeter and carry out such control yourself.

Electromagnetic fields also have adverse health effects. It is impossible to locate dwellings in a 50-meter zone near high-voltage power lines. And in the West, doctors recommend not sleeping in rooms where there are working refrigerators, computers and TVs.

I suffer from polyposis of the bladder. I was given a recipe for treatment with potato flowers, but, unfortunately, I cannot find them. What can replace them?

The active medicinal substance - solanine - is also contained in the seedlings of potato tubers. To prepare the medicine, you need to take 400 g of dried sprouts (from healthy tubers, preferably the “blue-eye” variety), grind them in a meat grinder, pour 1 liter of 70% alcohol, insist for 10 days in a warm dark place, then strain, and raw materials wring out. The resulting tincture is stored in the refrigerator.

Take according to this scheme: start with 1 drop 4 times a day (with half a glass of boiled water). Every day, add 1 drop, reaching up to 25, and with good tolerance - up to 30 drops. Then the dose is gradually reduced to the original. When treating, be aware of the toxicity of the tincture. With the appearance of nausea, dizziness, weakness, you should stop taking it and take 6-8 tablets of activated charcoal. In the following days, continue treatment with reduced dosages.

The child was diagnosed with retinoblastoma. I'm afraid of a crippling operation. Is it possible to help him with the methods of traditional medicine?

Retinoblastoma is a fairly rare disease when the tumor develops from the retina of the eye. With retinoblastoma, the eye enlarges, redness and lack of pupillary response to light may occur. In the future, the tumor grows through the wall of the eyeball, goes into the cranial cavity. Metastases go to the cervical and parotid lymph nodes.

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to get rid of the tumor by means of traditional medicine (as well as by sparing methods of official medicine). The affected eye is removed surgically. In the future, it is mandatory to wear a prosthesis so that there is no deformation of the face.

The vast majority of children diagnosed with retinoblastoma recover completely after surgery. By the way, it has been proven that this type of tumor is a hereditary disease, and if someone in the family suffered from it, then parents should be especially attentive to the state of health of their children and regularly examine the child with an ophthalmologist.

I am undergoing treatment at the oncology center. Doctors say that my blood is too thick. How can it be improved?

Increased blood viscosity is dangerous for cancer patients, since tumor cells easily settle from the blood in other organs, giving metastases. To improve the fluidity of blood, it is necessary to include natural anticoagulants in herbal preparations: sweet clover, lungwort, horse chestnut. It is very important not to limit yourself in drinking. It is advisable to take a course of hirudotherapy (treatment with leeches).

In the practice of healers, this method of treating stomach cancer is common. Take 2 fresh sheets of room geranium, grind in a mortar, pour 50 g of boiling water, leave for 6 hours, strain, then add 2 tbsp. spoons of aloe juice, 400 g of cognac and 4 drops of 5% tincture of iodine. Drink 25-30 ml on an empty stomach in the morning and evening. And in folk medicine in Bulgaria, such a remedy is widely used: 1 tbsp. mix a spoonful of lentils with the same amount of dry crushed potato flowers, pour the mixture with 0.5 liters of boiling water, leave for 3 hours in heat, then strain. Drink 100 g 3 times a day 15 minutes before meals. The course of treatment requires 4 liters of this infusion.

For the prevention of prostate cancer, it is useful for men to eat medicinal plants such as cruciferous vegetables. These include asparagus broccoli, red cabbage, turnips, radishes, turnips, cauliflower, garlic. Active anti-cancer compounds have been found in these vegetables. Compounds with a similar effect are also found in green tea, red capsicum, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, citrus fruits.

Injuries are among the provoking factors that can cause the development of breast cancer. Women should beware of them. And we are talking not only about some kind of severe injury received during a traffic accident or a fall. At first glance, a completely harmless injury that leaves no noticeable traces can play a fatal role: you were accidentally pushed on the bus, in the store, or your sexual partner overdid it with caresses. If your chest has fallen into the area of some tangible mechanical influences - pressure, blow, bruise - in the future this can cause extremely undesirable consequences.

Multicomponent medicinal herbal preparations selectively accumulate in altered (tumor) cells, forming compounds that are detrimental to them. As a result, tumor cells die, while healthy cells remain intact. In principle, medicinal plants could completely destroy the tumor, but they simply do not have enough time for this. The disadvantage of herbal medicine is its rather slow effect on the tumor. Therefore, medicinal plants should be used in combination with other methods of treatment to neutralize the resulting side effects.

Tumor malignant diseases in the structure of mortality in developed countries take the second place after diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

Numerous studies conducted in many countries are devoted to the relationship between carcinogenesis and nutritional characteristics observed in patients with various oncological diseases. In 40% of men and 60% of women suffering from cancer, a connection has been established between the development of the pathological process and certain nutritional errors. A number of solid studies have shown that high-fat diets are associated with breast, colon, and prostate cancer.

On the other hand, a cancer patient needs a special organization of therapeutic nutrition. A serious problem in the development of oncological diseases is the fact that both the disease itself and the methods used to treat it cause anorexia. In addition, cancer, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy interfere with the absorption of a number of nutrients.

The principles of nutrition of oncological patients have not been finally formed. On the one hand, it is necessary to provide the patient with nutritional support, and on the other hand, nutrition can stimulate the growth and metastasis of the tumor.

For decades, attempts have been made to develop a nutrition system aimed at counteracting tumor growth and slowing it down. Nutritionists who offer special diets for cancer patients are based on the fact that the tumor uses food substances obtained from outside and endogenous metabolites of the body for its growth. However, it has now been proven that systemic nutritional deficiency affects the state of the body more significantly than the tumor itself, which borrows the missing elements for its own growth. This causes difficulties in creating special antitumor diets.

Most oncologists are of the opinion that the diet of a cancer patient should be balanced in essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and water. Cancer patients need an increased intake of protein foods, especially after surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Lean meats should be eaten, including poultry, fish, dairy products, nuts, dried beans, peas, lentils, and soy products. To replenish energy costs, the patient must consume a sufficient amount of carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, bread, cereals and products from them, legumes) and fats (vegetable oil, nuts, fish oil). Subject to a balanced diet, patients, as a rule, do not need additional administration of vitamins and microelements. With the development of adverse effects from the ongoing treatment, the patient may be additionally prescribed drugs containing vitamins, trace elements, or balanced nutrient mixtures. If the patient develops vomiting or diarrhea as a complication of the disease and treatment, then the water intake should be adjusted to prevent dehydration.

    • Protein-energy malnutrition in oncological diseases

Most patients with malignant neoplasms are characterized by progressive weight loss. Cachexia develops in 5–25% of cancer patients, and 45% of hospitalized patients have a decrease in body weight.

The term "cancerous cachexia" describes a group of symptoms and syndromes that are characteristic of patients with metastatic lesions, but also occur in patients with a local tumor process. It is known that the volume of the neoplasm is not a criterion for the development of cachexia. The localization of the tumor is most important, especially when the gastrointestinal tract is affected.

      • Causes of cancer cachexia
        1. Decreased total nutrient intake in cancer patients.
          1. Most cancers are accompanied by anorexia. Often loss of appetite is one of the main symptoms suggestive of a tumor. Some physiological disorders also lead to anorexia, such as changes in taste in cancer patients.
          2. Specific metabolic processes characteristic of oncological diseases also lead to a decrease in nutrient intake. A number of substances formed in the body during oncological processes and leading to a decrease in nutrient intake have been identified. Such a substance, for example, is cachectin, which is produced by a tumor. Cachectin affects the hypothalamic centers, contributing to the development of anorexia and cachexia.
          3. Many tumors of the digestive tract and oral cavity cause dyspeptic disorders such as nausea, vomiting, and dysphagia. The result is a significant reduction in nutrient intake.
          4. In some cases, cancer patients develop depression, leading to a decrease in food intake.
        2. Metabolic disorders. In patients with oncological processes, there are numerous changes in protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism.
        3. Anticancer treatment significantly affects the nutritional status of cancer patients.
          1. Operative treatment. Surgical intervention in oncological pathology increases the body's nitrogen losses and increases energy requirements. The stressful effect of the operation (pain, injury, emotions) causes an increase in the level of catecholamines, cortisol and glucagon, leading to hypermetabolism, weight loss, negative nitrogen balance, water and electrolyte disorders. In addition, a number of radical surgical interventions lead to specific nutritional problems.
          2. Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy treatment has a number of negative effects on the nutrition of patients. Chemotherapy affects cell metabolism, DNA synthesis, and cell replication. The digestive tract is particularly affected by chemotherapy treatment. Stomatitis, ulcers develop throughout the digestive tract, hemorrhages in the mucous membrane, and the absorption capacity of the intestine decreases. Many chemotherapy drugs cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, taste changes, and aversion to food. All these phenomena contribute to the development of protein-energetic insufficiency.
          3. Radiation therapy has a significant negative effect on the digestive tract. The development of side effects depends on the dose of radiation and the volume of irradiated tissues. The negative effects of radiation therapy are divided into early and late. Early complications include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, changes in taste, and aversion to food. Late complications - the development of malabsorption syndrome, the appearance of intestinal strictures and fistulas.

Malabsorption (of fats, vitamin B 12)
        Diarrhea
        Gastric hypersecretion
        ColonLoss of water and electrolytes

Developed cachexia leads to protein-energy deficiency in cancer patients. There is a loss of body weight, depletion of somatic and visceral protein reserves with damage to enzymatic and structural functions. Protein deficiency reduces humoral and cellular immunity, which contributes to an increase in the frequency of complications, the development of secondary infections. Patient mortality is on the rise. The presence of cachexia limits the possibilities of chemotherapy.

When conducting nutritional support, patients better tolerate radiation and chemotherapy. Normalization of the state of nutrition in the complex treatment of neoplasms has a positive effect on the prognosis of the disease.

    • Nutritional support for cancer patients

In clinical practice, the criteria for significant protein-energy malnutrition in cancer patients can be considered weight loss of more than 10%, a decrease in albumin less than 35 g/l and transferrin less than 1.9 g/l. If two of the three criteria are met, the patient needs active nutritional support.

      • Nutritional support methods

A fundamentally important issue in carrying out nutritional support for a cancer patient is the choice of a nutrition method.

In some patients, the correction of the nutritional status is possible with the appointment of an adequate oral diet, enhanced by nutritional supplements containing amino acids, high-energy substrates, vitamins and trace elements.

However, the presence of anorexia or tumor of the upper gastrointestinal tract requires enteral nutrition. Artificial feeding through a tube, gastro- or jejunostomy allows the maximum use of the digestive capacity of the gastrointestinal tract in most patients.

The choice of nutritional support method must be combined with ongoing anticancer treatment.

      • Assessment of the energy needs of a cancer patient and assessment of the need for proteins

The protein and energy requirements of cancer patients with active nutritional support are not well understood.

To maintain a positive nitrogen balance and fat stores, non-protein calories should be 130% higher than the basal metabolic rate. The level of basal metabolism is determined on the basis of the Harris-Benedict formula, adjusted for the stress factor. The energy needs of patients with malignant tumors can be 35–55 kcal/kg/day.

    • Dietary prevention of cancer

Dietary prevention of oncological diseases is possible in two directions: protecting the human body from the intake of carcinogenic substances with food and saturating the body with nutrients that prevent the development of tumors.

      • Protection of the human body from the intake of carcinogenic substances and factors provoking the development of malignant tumors with food

Currently, there are many nutritional factors that contribute to the development of tumor formations. Minimizing the intake of these substances into the human body is an important component of cancer prevention.

        • Excess calorie intake and excess fat intake are unfavorable factors for the development of certain cancers.

The risk of cancer of the breast, uterine body, prostate and colon increases with excess caloric intake by increasing the amount of fat intake. Fat makes up an average of 40% of the total calorie content of food. When determining the risk of developing cancer, it is important not only to understand how much fat is recommended to consume, but also the type of fat. Saturated fats are considered the most harmful.

        • Meat products, especially fried and smoked ones, are unsafe for the human body.

Meat products are a source of unfavorable carcinogenic compounds: saturated fats (in fatty meat, in pork), dietary iron, cell proliferation factors (hormones). During the heat treatment of meat (smoking, frying), various carcinogens are formed, including polycyclic hydrocarbons. In the process of protein degradation to food amino acids and further metabolism of amino acids, nitrogenous compounds (phenols, cresols, indoles) are formed that have carcinogenic activity.

        • Dietary iron is a factor in carcinogenesis.

Iron absorption occurs mainly in the small intestine in the amount of 5–20% of its content in food. In the colon, iron is oxidized by intestinal bacteria - heme is converted to hematin. The relationship between dietary iron and the process of colon carcinogenesis has been proven. The progression of intestinal adenomas in the elderly correlates with the content of ferritin in the blood serum (ferritin contains up to 20% of all iron in the body); the likelihood of developing a tumor increases with ferritin levels above 400 ng / ml.

        • The role of excessive alcohol consumption in the development of various malignant neoplasms has been proven.

The role of alcohol in the development of liver cancer has been studied the longest. In alcoholic liver disease, the processes of detoxification of carcinogens are disrupted. The alcohol metabolite acetaldehyde is carcinogenic. In addition, alcohol serves as a solvent for carcinogens and enhances their absorption. In addition to the direct pro-carcinogenic effect, alcohol has a depressing effect on the endocrine and immune systems of the patient and reduces the effectiveness of the mechanisms of natural antitumor resistance.

        • Nitrates and nitrites are factors of carcinogenesis.

In a number of plant products, an excess amount of nitrates accumulates, which in the human body turn into nitrites. Nitrites, in turn, are capable of entering into complex biochemical reactions in the human body, as a result of which carcinogenic nitroso compounds can be formed.

        • Excess consumption of table salt is harmful in terms of oncogenesis.
        • Substances that can cause tumor diseases can enter the human body with drinking water.

When drinking water is chlorinated, homogenized hydrocarbons are formed, and the water acquires mutagenic activity. Flowing through the pipes, the water is contaminated with iron compounds, which increases the risk of cancer.

      • Saturation of the body with nutrients that prevent the development of tumors - natural anticarcinogenic compounds

In nature, and accordingly in food, there are substances that have anticarcinogenic effects. The intake of these substances with food in the human body prevents the development of tumors. Vegetables, fruits and herbs contain the largest amount of natural antitumor substances, therefore daily consumption of fruits, vegetables, natural juices is recommended.

        • A number of vitamins have antitumor activity, first of all, these are vitamins A, E, C. Other vitamins also have certain antitumor activity - B 6 , D, Ρ, ΡΡ, folic acid.
        • Carotene and carotenoids have an anticarcinogenic effect. These substances are contained in foods such as carrots, pumpkin, parsley, spinach, dill, rose hips, red peppers, green onions, tomatoes, asparagus, apricots, peaches. One of the studied carotenoids, lycopene, is found in tomatoes. Increased consumption of lycopene leads to a decrease in the risk of breast and bladder cancer.
        • Glucosonolates are sulfur compounds found in some vegetables (all types of cabbage, rutabaga, mustard, radish, turnip, horseradish). It has been proven that eating these vegetables in sufficient quantities reduces the risk of cancer of all localizations and, above all, of the stomach, colon, nasopharynx, and breast.
        • monoterpene compounds. Antitumor substances contained in citrus fruits: oranges, grapefruits, lemons, tangerines, citrons. Regular consumption of citrus fruits reduces the risk of developing cancer of all localizations, and especially of the nasopharynx, lung, esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum, pancreas, and breast.
        • polyphenolic compounds. Antitumor polyphenolic compounds are found in soybeans, peas, beans, and lentils.
        • 2.6. Chlorophyll. Green leafy vegetables: watercress, chives, parsnips, parsley, rhubarb, celery, dill, spinach, and edible seaweed contain the pigment chlorophyll. Eating these foods reduces the risk of developing cancer of the lung, mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, colon, breast, and bladder.
        • Alimentary fiber. It has been proven that a long-term dietary fiber deficiency significantly increases the risk of tumors such as breast and uterine cancer. In experimental studies, bran inhibited the development of colon cancer. Cereal bran, as well as soybeans, peas, beans, and other legumes contain phytic acid and lignins, which have antitumor activity. Read more: The role of dietary fiber in nutrition.
        • Fish fat. Fish oil contains eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids, which have an inhibitory effect on the development of certain tumors.
        • Some minerals have proven anticarcinogenic activity.
          • The most well-known antitumor element is selenium.
          • Lack of iodine in endemic areas can be the cause of thyroid disease, including cancer.
          • In addition to selenium and iodine, other macro- and microelements contained in food products have antitumor activity, among them: germanium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, copper, zinc.
        • Green tea. There is the term "Asian advantage" - a pronounced (several times) decrease in the incidence of bowel cancer, breast cancer and tumors of other localizations in the Asian region compared to the countries of Europe and North America. Many scientists attribute the "Asian advantage" to the high consumption of green tea and plant foods in general among the peoples of the Asian continent.
        • Garlic and onions also contain anticancer organic sulfur compounds. Epidemiological studies have shown that the use of onions and garlic helps to reduce the risk of cancer in many locations, but primarily in the stomach, colon and rectum.
      • Principles of dietary cancer prevention
        • Reducing fat intake to 30% of total calories and completely avoiding foods high in refractory fats.
        • Fractional meals (five meals or more).
        • Increase consumption of fruits, vegetables and grains.
        • Limiting the intake of refined carbohydrates.
        • Limiting the consumption of meat, especially fatty and fried and smoked.
        • Limiting the intake of salty, peppery foods.
        • Moderate alcohol consumption.
        • The normalization of excess body weight is important for the prevention of cancer.
      • Cancer and Vegetarianism

Special literature discusses the role of vegetarian diet in cancer prevention. In the blood of vegetarians, higher levels of antioxidant vitamins, microelements (selenium, zinc, copper) are noted. The most important circumstance that should be taken into account when preparing vegetarian diets is the inferiority of the amino acid composition of plant proteins.

      • Anticancer diet of Cornelius Moermann

The basics of anti-cancer nutrition were first outlined in the 1920s by the Dutch physician Cornelius Moerman. A specially designed diet, on the one hand, is aimed at activating the body's defenses, and on the other hand, it limits the intake of harmful substances from food.

        Cornelius Moerman's Diet Principles:

        • Maintain low blood glucose levels. Requires restriction or exclusion from the diet of simple carbohydrates - sugars, as well as confectionery, honey, products made from premium flour.
        • It is advisable to use a predominantly plant-based diet. It is necessary to drastically reduce the intake of animal proteins in order to create a deficiency of essential amino acids and thereby reduce protein synthesis by tumor cells.
        • Regular consumption of whole grains and bran products is essential. The diet should contain enough fiber and products with specific anti-carcinogenic activity (garlic, green tea, cruciferous vegetables, carotenoids), vitamin products and freshly prepared juices (beetroot, carrot, blackcurrant, apple, cabbage). Include antioxidant vitamins, citric acid, iodine and sulfur preparations in the diet.
        • To introduce calcium into the body and correct intestinal function, it is necessary to constantly use low-fat dairy products (kefir, yogurt), combining them with cultures of beneficial microorganisms.
        • To saturate the body with ω-3-acids, you need to consume nuts (3-5 pieces per day), olive and flaxseed oils, sea fish (at least 3 times a week).
        • Drink only artesian (preferably melted) water. It should prepare teas, decoctions, infusions.
        • It is necessary to limit the consumption of table salt.
        • In the absence of anemia, it is necessary to exclude from the diet red meat, liver and preparations containing iron (including dietary supplements containing iron). Complexes containing vitamins of group B cannot be used uncontrollably. Exceeding the physiological doses of these compounds can promote tumor growth.
        • You should refrain from drinking coffee and alcohol.
      • Gerzon's diet

The original approach to nutrition in oncological diseases is carried out in the Gerzon diet. This diet is based on the complete exclusion of salt from the diet, as it is assumed that salt affects the electrolyte balance of the tumor. Recommended maximum and frequent consumption of freshly prepared vegetable and fruit juices (up to several liters per day). Juices are sources of antioxidants and stimulate diuresis. The Gerzon diet completely excludes some foods from the diet: animal proteins, refined sugars, flour, white bread, refined polished rice. The diet is individualized for each patient, it uses specific products, such as raw liver juice, raw potato juice, potassium diet elements.

      • Practical recommendations for preventive anticancer nutrition
        • Avoid excess consumption of fats, especially from animals.
Avoid rancidity of fats. Do not use fats that are reused for frying and overheated during cooking. Buy nuts only in the shell, do not eat shelled seeds that have been stored for a long time. Buy oil in opaque bottles or hard cans.
      • Limit your salt intake. Cook with little salt and don't add salt to your food.
      • Limit your intake of sugar and other simple carbohydrates.
      • Limit your consumption of red meat. Replace part of the meat with vegetable proteins (legumes), fish (shallow deep-sea varieties are preferred), eggs (no more than 3 per week), low-fat dairy products. Consider the value of meat products. Value in descending order: lean white meat, rabbit, veal, free-range chicken (not broiler), lean red meat, fatty meat.
      • Eliminate sausages, sausages, as well as meat fried on coals, smoked meat and fish from the diet.
      • Steam, bake or simmer foods with a minimum amount of water, which you also eat. Do not eat burnt food.
      • Eat whole grain cereals, baked goods enriched with dietary fiber. Do not remove the skin from vegetables: just wash them thoroughly with a brush.
      • Use purified water, defend water or purify it in other ways. Try to avoid carbonated drinks with artificial additives.
      • Do not abuse alcohol.
      • Do not overeat, control body weight.
