MMABoxing: How did you get into professional kickboxing? And what was your main motivation?

Jabar: How did I get into professional kickboxing? This is probably the dream of my childhood, because I always dreamed of the pros and did not get hung up on the amateurs. My fighting style was more suitable for professional Thai boxing or kickboxing. In amateur sports, the motivation was that you can achieve titles, some heights, but at the same time, I knew that sports should be profitable, so when you go into professional sports, it already turns into work ... Earn money, feed your family - that was the motivation.

MMABoxing: Can you remember your very first competition? What were the emotions?

Jabar: I trained in kickboxing all the time, this sport was popular among the people, but there were no tournaments anyway. More competitions were held in amateur boxing. I was then in Derbent, there was a school boxing championship or something ... I competed there. We boxed, it seems, in the 28 kg weight category. There was one fight, I won it. There were no special emotions, I just went out and boxed. There was no great excitement ... I didn’t experience any amazing emotions either ... I was then 9 years old.

MMABoxing: In one of your interviews, you said that your father motivated you and your brothers by promising to buy a Dendy console and in the end did not buy it. This is true? Do you still have a love for video games?

Jabar: Yes (smiles). Well, sometimes it’s like that, I’ll play football on the PlayStation, and then, if there is a good company, there is someone to play with. And so, there is no special craving for such toys. But I'm not mad at my father. As a child - yes, I thought why he did not give and so on. Now I understand that these are just games, you know, worldly joys ... They only pamper people and do not give anything good. My father probably knew better than me what was best for me, what would be more useful for me. Therefore, I am even grateful to him that then he did not give a prefix.

MMABoxing: When did you realize that kickboxing could become your main profession?

Jabar: Even when I was doing amateur Muay Thai at school, I was doing it professionally. He performed at competitions, was a member of the national team, then the national team. I realized that this would become my job on a professional level when I left for Bangkok. I understood that I needed to earn money somehow, I had to help my parents financially. Then I realized that Thai boxing was a job for me.

MMABoxing: In one of your interviews, you said that for the first fights you received relatively little money ($100-200). It seems to me that in foreign countries things are better with this, that is, there novice fighters get more for their first fights. When do you think novice fighters in Russia will receive the same amount?

Jabar: I believe that a fighter should not be spoiled with big money from the very beginning. Now many guys who box suffer from the fact that they don’t have enough fights. could, but for them it is not enough now. "Yes, no, for such money to destroy health ...". Destroy health? Then don't play sports at all. Even if you have achieved something among amateurs, you are nobody among professionals. I was ready to fight for free for my first 10-20 professional fights. Just for the promoters to notice me and so on... Now some kind of softer youth has gone. You know, in the west, fighters get a good fee after the first fight... I don't see anything good in that.

MMABoxing: So you think that a fighter should be "money hungry"?

Jabar: Now young ordinary guys get 1000-1500 dollars for a fight. It was not so long ago, 7-8 years ago, when I received 100 dollars for a fight. Now a fighter who does not show anything impressive for a fight receives 1000-1500 dollars and still remains dissatisfied. Everyone has their own opinion on this matter. How many people, so many opinions. But my opinion is that a fighter should try to make money. Won - earned, even won - earned more and so on. Well, look. Here you will be bombarded with folders with material and you will do the same as you did, look for material in the same way as you were looking for before, and if they tell you that if you prepare one material well, they will raise your salary, but you will try harder , right? It's the same with kickboxing.

MMABoxing: When you had a fight in Krasnodar against Marko Grokh, a well-known Krasnodar fan, grandfather (Uncle Misha), was rooting for you, did you see him? Did he not approach you?

Jabar: Yes, I saw it. No, he came up and hugged me. They say that he is such an ardent fan. When I boxed there for the first time, he was with some kind of posters, with flowers. They say that he is an ardent fan of the Krasnodar basketball club, in general he is a fan of sports. It's good, it's fun.

MMABoxing: He said that he wrote a poem for Jabar Askerov. Did he read it to you?

Jabar: Yes, a small verse, but I was very pleased, an adult comes up to you, expresses his respect, gratitude for the fact that you came and boxed ...

MMABoxing: What can you tell us about your team?

Jabar: I don't have a permanent team, I have a permanent coach. My current coach is Judy King and Dan Lyon. Sparring partners also always change. Azamat Abdulazizov is my permanent second, he can give the right hint, set it up and so on.

MMABoxing: What is your current motivation?

Jabar: My family, my loved ones, my friends. Before the fight, I always talk to my nephew, though I still don’t understand what he is saying.

MMABoxing: I think that you know that there are often disputes on the Internet, who is stronger than you or Batu Khasikov. What do you think about this?

Jabar: (smiling) Many people ask me questions about Bata and I have to answer. I'm not an arrogant person, but I don't put Bata on my level, I don't put him on the level of good top fighters. He is an average fighter.

MMABoxing: What do you know about the next fight?

Jabar: So far, negotiations are underway, there are several proposals for kickboxing and MMA. All this will become clear next year. There will be a show in early February, maybe I will take part there, maybe.

MMABoxing: About fights according to MMA rules. Here Wikipedia says that you have 5 fights and 5 wins according to MMA rules, but, for example, there is no information on your fights on Sherdog.com. What can you say about these fights?

Jabar: What's bad is that these fights were not registered on Sherdog. If they were registered, then my official record would now be 5-0. One fight should be on youtube soon.

MMABoxing: Do you have any plans to move into MMA? Or combine performances in kickboxing and MMA, as, for example, Melvin Manhoef and Tyrone Spong do.

Jabar: I hope that next year I will have my first official MMA fight. We plan that this will be a fight against one of the top fighters who is not associated with the UFC. Walk, so walk. We will try to bring a good fighter, a good striker, so that there will be a spectacular fight. So that it doesn’t happen that some kind of meat was brought.

MMABoxing: How much time do you need to thoroughly prepare for a fight?

Jabar: I get asked this question a lot. 8 weeks is enough for me to prepare for the fight.

MMABoxing: How many pounds do you have to lose before a fight? And how long is the race?

Jabar: You need to drive 4 kg. I usually do a trim in two days.

MMABoxing: Do you follow the UFC or Bellator?

Jabar: I don't really follow. I watch Cain Velasquez fights. I heard that Rashid Magomedov was signed to the UFC. Wonderful fighter and person. I will root for him.

MMABoxing: Do you know anyone from UFC besides him?

Jabar: I know Ali Bagautinov, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rustam Khabilov, Omari Akhmedov, I know almost all the Russians who were signed there. I just don't watch much. The guys are all good. But I look like a fan, there are fighters whose style you like. Viscous wrestling or shock. I like to watch drummers, of all of them, in terms of drumming, Rashid Magomedov also likes Rustam Khabilov, but the brightest of all is Rashid. I wish success to all the Russian guys who perform there. But in my opinion, a bright Russian fighter is Rashid Magamedov.

MMABoxing: Who would you like to fight under MMA rules? It doesn't matter what promotion.

Jabar: Nick Diaz, Jose Aldo... Basically, with any good drummer. I like striking more, it's not that I'm afraid to fight, I just don't like fuss. It's not spectacular. I like punching, exchanges, knockouts more. That's why I would like to fight a drummer.

MMABoxing: What can you tell us about your unusual pet (lemur)?

Jabar: This is not my pet, but a friend's pet. I often visit a friend, babysit a lemur, when a friend is not at home, I take a lemur to me. He is like a child, like a person, takes offense at something, calms ... My sedative.

MMABoxing: What do you want to say to your fans?

Dzhabar Magomedovich Askerov is a Dagestan athlete, multiple world and European champion in Muay Thai and kickboxing. He received the nickname "Genghis Khan" for his incredible stamina and will to win. He won recognition among connoisseurs of martial arts for his unique fighting style. This is one of those fighters who would rather die in the ring than give up. It is thanks to such "gladiators" that martial arts are very popular.
Biography and career

Born on the twenty-fourth of January 1986 in the Dagestan village of Kurakh. Already at the age of six, his father enrolled him in the judo section, where Jabar trained for two years. A year later, he moved with his family to Derbent, where at the age of twelve he began to practice Thai boxing. Having fallen in love with this sport, in 2005 he moved to his homeland - to Thailand, where he continued to train for several years. He himself calls this period very useful for him, as for a fighter.
After a successful series of fights, he decides to try his hand at K-1, where only the best representatives of different martial arts participate. In the first fight, he hits the strongest fighter in this weight category Buakhau Por. Pramuk, to whom he loses on points. But this defeat did not affect the desire for the victory of "Genghis Khan". His character is fully consistent with the behavior in the ring. Jabar Askerov is like a rock, he will never take a step back if he is sure that he is right.
In the following years, Dzhabar Magomedovich won numerous titles, representing in the ring first Russia, then the United Arab Emirates, then Russia again. This was due to many factors, including the best conditions for training in the Emirates. Currently lives and trains in Melbourne. Many sympathize with Askerov not only because of his sporting achievements, but also in connection with his moral and ethical views. It will suffice to recall his interview, which touched upon the behavior of Caucasians in Russia and in Moscow in particular.

In his interviews, Jabar Askerov repeatedly stated that he was very grateful to his father, not only for his upbringing, but also for his sporting achievements. Indeed, at first he did not want to do it, and he did it solely out of respect, but having felt the taste of victory and the bitterness of defeat, he realized how important it is for a man to temper his character and body. To date, Jabar has won a large number of victories over strong opponents, including Enrico Kael, Andy Sauer and others. But, despite this, the motivation does not decrease, he wants to fight all the best welterweight fighters, of which there are a lot.

Jabar Askerov is called Genghis Khan, and this nickname "stuck" to him is not accidental. In the ring, he is fast, strong and impetuous. Gold medals fall into his collection one after another. At the moment, the famous Dagestan fighter is at the peak of his career. But is it worth saying that it will immediately be followed by a sharp decline? Of course not. After all, Jabar Askerov has repeatedly proved that he knows how to fight. Fight opponents and yourself.

The childhood of Jabar Askerov and the beginning of his career

The future famous athlete was born in the small village of Kurakh, in the south of the Republic of Dagestan. Thus, Jabar's childhood and youth were surrounded by mountains and the famous Caucasian nature. Very little is known about his parents. The only data can be gleaned from an interview with the boxer himself. In particular, in communication with journalists, Jabar repeatedly mentions that from an early age his idol and role model was his father. At the age of six, he sent his son to a judo school in nearby Magaramkent. However, Jabar stayed in this place for only two years. The reason for this was the move of the Askerov family to the city of Derbent. Here, for the future athlete, a new life began, which was full of new hobbies.

As the fighter himself recalls, at the age of nine he first got into the Muay Thai section, which immediately made a huge impression on him. In this school, Askerov began to work hard on himself and very soon caught the eye of one of the most famous coaches in the modern history of Dagestan - Zainalbek Zainalbekov. Working with this person became a new step in the sports development of the future champion, and soon grew into a true friendship. According to Jabar himself, after the death of his father, the coach was always with him and supported him in literally everything. At some point, it was Zaynalbek who suggested that Jabar think about the career of a professional boxer.

The first fights of Jabar Askerov and further career

In 1999, Jabar first entered the world junior championship in Thai boxing. Despite the lack of experience, the first performances were successful and brought Askerov his first gold medal. A similar success was repeated a year later, when the fourteen-year-old boy won the World Junior Championship for the second time.

After that, the young fighter marked himself at several more major international competitions, in which he began to increasingly enter the ring against adults and experienced fighters. However, in these fights, Jabar Askerov often remained the winner. So, in his personal collection of awards, the bronze of the 2003 World Championship (IFMA), the title of PK-1 champion, as well as the special prize of the Muaythai against Drugs tournament (Muay Thai against drugs) appeared.

Jabar Askerov. Life stories (exclusive interview)

After that, the Dagestani fighter decided to continue to improve his innate talent and in 2005 he moved to live in Thailand - the birthplace of Thai boxing. Here he lived for several years, which, according to the athlete himself, had a great influence on his career. Favorable conditions for training hardened the boxer, and very soon he became even stronger.

In 2007, Jabar Askerov began to appear frequently in Japan, where he began to take part in kickboxing tournaments, which were held under the auspices of the K-1 company. The first fight of the Dagestan athlete took place in the spring of 2007. His opponent was the Thai fighter Buakhau Po Pramuka. Jabar lost his debut duel by decision of the judges, but this only tempered the character of our today's hero. In 2008, he became the finalist of the K-1 Scandinavia MAX tournament, the winner of the Shoot Boxing S-Cup, and the European champion in Muay Thai according to WMC.

During this period, the boxer accepted the offer of the UAE Sports Federation and began to represent the United Arab Emirates at all tournaments. According to Jabar Askerov, the change of sports citizenship was due to many interrelated factors. The most significant of these were the favorable conditions for training, as well as the good financial conditions offered in the UAE.
