The capacity of each tank is 39 liters. Maintenance of fuel tanks consists in periodic washing of the filter of the receiving tube of the fuel level and the tanks themselves, draining the sludge, checking the reliability of the fastening of the tanks and, if necessary, tightening them. For flushing, the fuel tanks are removed from the vehicle.

Fuel electric pump of flow type.

Maintenance of the fuel pump consists in periodic checking and cleaning of its contacts for connecting to the on-board network. Particular attention should be paid to the reliability of the ground connection.

Clogging of the intake tube filter, fine and coarse fuel filters, the presence of dirt and mechanical impurities in the fuel tank are manifested primarily in the deterioration of fuel pumping from the right tank to the left, unstable engine operation at high loads and deterioration in vehicle dynamics. With these signs, in order to avoid failure of the fuel pump, appropriate measures should be taken immediately.

The electric motor of the fuel pump is cooled by the passing flow of fuel, therefore, in order to avoid its failure, it is not allowed to turn on the electric fuel pump on a dry one when there is no fuel in the left tank.

Jet pump.

The jet pump is attached to the fuel hoses at the left side member of the frame. Its maintenance consists in checking the tightness of the pump and its connections. If there is no fuel transfer from the right tank to the left one, the jet pump must be disassembled by unscrewing the nozzle, washed and blown with compressed air.

Fuel fine filter.

Installed under the hood of the car on the left mudguard. The fuel heating device turns on when the ignition is turned on, if the fuel temperature is below 10 degrees. Heating is controlled automatically by a fuel temperature sensor.

Every 10,000 kilometers and in the event of a signaling device for the presence of water in the fuel filters, it is necessary to remove sediment from the filter element. To do this, unscrew the water presence sensor by several turns, drain the sediment until a jet of clean fuel appears and wrap the sensor.

Every 40,000 kilometers or once a year, whichever comes first, or if the clogged filter alarm goes off, the filter element must be replaced. Before replacement, the outer surface of the filter must be cleaned of dirt. When replacing the filter element, do not allow dirt to enter the internal cavity of the filter.

Coarse fuel filter.

Mounted on the left frame cradle, access to the filter from below the car. Every 10,000 kilometers and in the event of a signaling device for the presence of water in the fuel filters, it is necessary to remove sediment from the filter element. To do this, unscrew the water presence sensor by several turns, drain the sediment until a jet of clean fuel appears and wrap the sensor.

Every 40,000 kilometers, a visual external inspection of the fuel coarse filter should be carried out. Every 120,000 kilometers or every four years, whichever comes first, the filter element is replaced with a new one.

It is necessary to bleed air from the fuel supply system when dismantling pipelines, filters or pumps, after replacing the fuel filter elements, after the fuel is completely exhausted from the system. To bleed air and fill the system with fuel, the following work must be carried out:

1. Loosen the air bleed plug on the fuel pre-filter. Turning on the ignition (electric fuel pump), fill the line until air bubbles disappear in the fuel jet coming out of the air outlet plug. Tighten the stopper.

2. Loosen the air release plug on the fuel fine filter. Turning on the ignition (electric fuel pump), fill the line until air bubbles disappear in the fuel jet coming out of the air outlet plug. Tighten the stopper.

3. Start the engine. If the engine does not start because the high pressure pipes are not filled, repeat the above operations.

Leaks in the connections of the fuel supply system are eliminated by tightening the connections or replacing defective elements. After any maintenance work on the fuel supply system associated with tightening connections, removing or replacing parts and assemblies, it is necessary to check the tightness of the system.

The first Zavolzhsky ZMZ-514 engines, which were originally equipped with the UAZ Patriot, were not recognized as the most successful, and car owners have a lot of complaints about them. Then, in 2008, the Iveco F1A turbodiesel power unit was “introduced” on the car; it was already more reliable, but for a number of reasons, the Ulyanovsk residents were forced to abandon it in 2012, and the diesel relay race returned to the Volga region again. What reviews did the owners of the UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine leave in 2015, what do they say about this car?

UAZ Patriot with an Iveco engine is a very good option, a reliable engine pulls like a steam locomotive, and at the same time consumes 10 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. There is something to compare with - the gasoline Patriot consumes an awful lot of fuel, and in the city in traffic jams it easily “eats” 20 liters of “ninety-second”.

When passing through clay and sand, the diesel engine also wins - its torque is enough for the car to crawl out of any mud, and it drives off-road slowly but surely. And, of course, it is a pity that at the end of 2011 the Iveco F1A was discontinued - even with the most super-sophisticated engine of the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, it should not be compared, in Russia, apparently, they will never learn how to make diesel engines.

A car is needed for a trip from the city to the village, the car has an Iveco engine. For three years of operation (from 2012 to 2015), the car did not fail even once, I had to change something mainly only in small things (light bulbs, consumables). Bearing kingpins were installed for 20 thousand km, the main expenses are maintenance and car washing. Webasto is on the SUV, so the car starts in any frost. The car is dynamic, cruising speed of 110 km / h keeps confidently, and on the track "eats" 8 liters per "hundred".

The engine must be monitored and everything must be done according to the instructions. Iveco does not have a cooling cooler, and after the engine has been running at high speed for a long time, it cannot be turned off immediately - you need to wait a few minutes. I am satisfied with the car, but the assembly is terrible, and the service is frankly bad. There is no need to close the UAZ, it is unlikely to be stolen. Diesel fuel consumption is about 9 liters, the all-terrain vehicle will go wherever the driver wishes. Fuel tanks on a car are too small for such a tank, two containers of 35 liters each are not enough for a “tank”. Refueling with two tanks is inconvenient, you have to spin around - drive up from one side or the other side of the gas station.

Diesel off-road - that's it, it has excellent traction. For 30 thousand km, "Patrick" broke down only on trifles (outer door handles failed, the speedometer did not work), the stove heats up well, which is unusual for a diesel engine.

We bought a UAZ 2007 with a ZMZ-514 engine, the car was completely disappointing. The car is constantly pouring - something definitely needs to be repaired. Over 50 thousand kilometers, I had to change the oil pump drive three times, the repair turns out to be very expensive, and you still have to run around to find spare parts for the engine. The motor was launched into a series, but its reliability was not taken care of at all. Never buy a Patriot with a Zavolzhsky engine - you will have problems with it. In addition, in cold weather, the engine does not want to start at all - already at -15ºC, you can only put the battery in.

The ZMZ-51432 diesel engine appeared on the UAZ Patriot at the end of 2011, and went into production at the beginning of 2012. Unlike its predecessor ZMZ-514, the new power unit acquired a Common Rail fuel injection system and began to comply with Euro-4 environmental standards. The car as a whole is not bad, but the assembly ... UAZ Patriot of the end of 2011, in the third year of operation, red spots began to appear on the body. Everything in the cabin rattles, wiring problems arise constantly. A radiator leaked, a turbine “flew” on a run of 50 thousand km. The gearbox oil seal flows regularly, it often has to be changed. Everything rattles in the cabin, water appears in the trunk after rain. Of the advantages, I would like to note a roomy interior and good cross-country ability, and the Patriot also costs reasonable money. You have to repair, but drive, because there is no alternative - all foreign "classmates" are significantly more expensive. As a friend said - "we cry, but we take it."

Salon "Patra" is very roomy, even with a height of 190 cm, it is quite comfortable to sit behind the wheel. The machine is well suited for fishing, it easily moves through the forest, taking any cargo with you on the road is not a problem. The cross-country ability is excellent, but this does not mean that you need to climb into the swamp on an SUV with a diesel engine - any all-terrain vehicle can get stuck in impenetrable mud.

It seems that the quality of the "Patriots" has become better - the first UAZs were completely "raw". The cooling pipes are constantly leaking, it is not clear why they cannot be made from normal materials. In general, there are still a lot of small stocks, you still need to work and work with the car.

"Patriot" in 2014, the cross-country ability is super - it overcomes meter-long snowdrifts even without switching on a downshift. The power of the engine is enough, the car consumes an average of 10 liters. The preheater is missing (it will need to be installed), and it would be nice to install larger tires on the car - then the UAZ will not need roads at all. A 2.2 liter diesel engine is not critical to fuel, it digests our Russian solarium well.

What can be said about the shortcomings? Noise isolation is weak, we can assume that it does not exist at all. On steep ascents and descents, the UAZ “sits down” on the front axle, the front axle gearbox is located low. The gears at the checkpoint are switched on hard, the doors are heavy, the Patriot is clearly not a women's car, but for real Russian men it is just right.

The large side mirrors of the restyled car are folded, a multimedia system with a seven-inch screen has now appeared in the cabin. How does the updated diesel SUV behave on the road, what do car owners say about it?

About the car UAZ Patriot (diesel) in 2016, the reviews are mostly positive, it is noted that the build quality has become better. Nevertheless, the opinion of the owners of the cars has not completely changed, according to their responses, the Russian SUV is the same “pepelats” that you definitely need to finish with your own hands, especially on the little things.

In general, the car of the 2015 model turned out to be worthy, but the main trouble of the Uazikov remained - this is the low quality of parts, and the car is not assembled by hand. A diesel engine with a Common Rail fuel system is very critical of diesel fuel, and it is impossible to refuel anywhere with this engine, at least the nozzles will fail. First of all, when refueling with bad fuel, the Check Engine lamp lights up on the instrument panel, indicating malfunctions in the engine electronics. But the advantage of the Zavolzhsky motor is that it works quite quietly, and almost without vibrations.

UAZ has an anniversary: ​​exactly 70 years ago, in the early autumn of 1941, the Stalin Automobile Plant was evacuated from Moscow to Ulyanovsk. The Ulyanovsk residents offered to celebrate their anniversary on the western coast of Lake Baikal - a trip on Patriots with Iveco diesel engines, which will also very soon become part of the factory's history.

Which of the inhabitants of the Russian outback has not dreamed of a diesel UAZ? At various times, the “goat” was matched by units of Russian, Italian, Austrian, German, Japanese, Polish and even Chinese origin. But imported heavy-fuel engines were expensive, and domestic ones were unreliable. However, the villagers spoke well of the Polish Andoria turbodiesel (AR No. 10, 2005), which was serially installed on the Hunter: they loved the engine for its simplicity, maintainability and “omnivorousness”. Well, the UAZ with the Toyota 1 KZ-TE diesel engine was reputed to be the most successful third-party alteration - the most power-armed in the “herd”.

Since August 2008, the UAZ decided to switch to Italian Iveco F1A diesel engines - the same ones that are installed on Fiat Ducato commercial vehicles assembled by Sollers. The UAZ Patriot SUVs equipped with them have already sold seven thousand copies (5 times more gasoline cars have been sold), but I have only just managed to fully drive a diesel Patriot.

I was ready to listen to the shaman of Priolkhonye Valentin Khagdaev for hours: the stories of this man are similar to a lesson in local history, which is taught by a good and enthusiastic teacher. But as soon as colleagues asked Valentin to predict something or read by hand, I tactfully stepped aside

The Ulyanovsk residents chose a noble place for the anniversary rides: roads of such quality stretch to the east of Irkutsk that after a couple of tens of kilometers, not only "children's", but also chronic diseases crawl out near the car. Passengers, by the way, too!

Having decided to take a break from the unbearable shaking, I stop at the end of the dusty primer, open the door - and raise my thumb up: the door seals on the Patriots have finally learned how to put them right! The rubber bands now do not “chew” in the openings and effectively seal the joints (leakage of the Patriot body, I remember, greatly annoyed during the Aral trip - AR No. 17, 2009). Having thoroughly “dubbed” the grader, he noted that the tailgate stopped knocking, the cup holder no longer “shoots” on bumps, and the plastic “fangs” of the rear bumper do not fall off from vibration. But the rattle of the steering shaft hinges on a car with a range of 5000 km is embarrassment. Especially after the plant's statement about tightening control over the quality of third-party components.

Look at what "shoes" the Irkutsk dealers of UAZ "shod" the Patriots in! On Taiwanese Maxxis Buckshot Mudder tires, the UAZ looks like a real macho - and cheerfully jumps over sharp stones (for 700 km I cut only one sidewall - a good result), effectively ripping up dense sand and balancing well in high-speed dirt turns. However, in the mud, the car became like a village drunk, wandering home with an amplitude from fence to fence: a couple of times at the exit from a harmless turn, I almost leaned sideways against a roadside birch.

There are a lot of sharp stones in the steppes stretching along the western coast of Lake Baikal. A little yawned - get the jack!

The fact is that due to the layout features of the motor, the depth of the ford to be overcome on this machine is set not by a cooling system fan or an air intake pipe, but by a low-hanging generator: when our cars drove into the water, the instructors were preparing for the worst. If the red charging lamp lights up in the instrument cluster, then you can prepare for spending the night in the forest - we won’t reach the base on one battery. The only thing that can be done before overcoming deep fords is to put a protective "muzzle" on the generator from a plastic bottle.

Really for three years of production this problem could not be solved? After all, there is a stage of finishing tests!

I did not expect a special agility from the 116-horsepower Iveco diesel engine - there was none. Of course, against the background of its competitors, the Italian motor looks quite quiet and does not annoy with vibrations - there is no annoying itch on any of the controls. But when driving off-road... No, diesel is not weak - it's just uncomfortable. If on commercial vehicles like the Ducato the power unit operates mainly in static load mode, then when driving off-road, traction must be dosed, and dosed accurately. The left edge of the torque curve of the Italian diesel is flat, and, moving at low speeds (even with the demultiplier on), it is difficult to understand whether the engine is in the turbo lag or is already ready to deliver the declared 270 Nm. It would be a little bit to increase the gear ratio of the main gear - but then the Patriot will become uncomfortable on the pavement, because its engine, when overtaking, already works with twisting.

The way out is to conjure with an electronic gas pedal. That is, adjust the rheostat setting in such a way that in the low-speed zone the engine reacts more cheerfully to an increase in fuel supply. And it’s better to do it not mathematically, but expertly: for example, with the help of Buryat shamans, because the cultists of the island of Olkhon are able to penetrate into someone else’s consciousness and even predict the future - at least that’s what my colleagues who talked with one of the mediums claimed.

But, alas, the UAZ people will not be engaged in either setting up the accelerator or protecting the generator from moisture. I can predict the future of Italian diesel engines even without shamans - and my Tuvan experience with shamanism (AR No. 17, 2011) has nothing to do with it. Since Sollers has just “divorced” FIAT, Iveco diesels will no longer be installed on UAZs - and in the very near future, a Russian engine, the Zavolzhsky ZMZ-51432, will appear under the hood of the Patriot. Hearing this name, "goat breeders" with experience startle in fright, because the old "five hundred and fourteenth" diesel spoiled them so much blood that it was cursed even by repairmen. The Patriots will be equipped with an updated version of it, equipped with a common rail power system and meeting the Euro 4 environmental class. According to the declared characteristics, the Euro-ZMZ is very close to the Iveco engine, however, recalling the spread of output parameters on old Zavolzhsky diesel engines, it is hard to believe in the stability of the return. In an acceptable resource too.

But the Sollers group does not share these fears: according to marketers, over the past year alone, consumer interest in the diesel program has grown by 35%, and they are sure that ZMZ-51432 will find demand. And the Ulyanovsk Patriot is also waiting for serious interior changes, so 2012 for this car will most likely become the frontier of a generational change.

Already in the first months of the Great Patriotic War, strategically important factories began to be evacuated from the western regions of the country. In October, the threat of capture loomed over Moscow, it was decided to urgently relocate the capital's enterprises, among which one of the largest was ZIS (named after Stalin). In addition to cars, they produced ammunition, equipment for the production of weapons, as well as forgings and castings for aircraft and tank factories.

Four sites were chosen for the evacuation of the ZIS - in Shadrinsk (the future SHAAZ), Troitsk, Miass (the future UralAZ) and in Ulyanovsk. In total, 12,800 pieces of equipment were taken out of the plant to the rear - dispatch went around the clock, and unloading on the ground was carried out mainly manually using wooden rollers, cables and ropes.

Ulyanovsk was then a small (population - 105 thousand people) regional center of the Kuibyshev region, so most of the workers were transported from Moscow - a total of 90 thousand people came to Ulyanovsk, including women and children. They built the plant in an open field, and at first, until a diesel power plant and a boiler room were installed, electricity was provided by a diesel-electric train, and pipes were adapted to heat the shops, through which steam from decommissioned steam locomotives flowed.

The new plant was named UlZIS - in February 1942, the production of ammunition began here, and in March a tool shop was launched. The assembly of ZIS-5 trucks from previously imported Moscow components was mastered in May 1942, and the supply of power units from Miass was delayed, so the first cars left the wooden stocks without motors and gearboxes. The main assembly line was launched in October - up to 60 trucks could leave it per day. At the same time, the acquisition of other workshops was also completed. Think about it - from the moment the plant was laid down to the start of the rhythmic production of cars, only a year has passed! According to the laws of war.

Almost immediately, work began in Ulyanovsk on the creation of a new generation diesel truck, several prototypes were even made, but subsequently all the developments on the car "left" to the ZIS. Another interesting fact: at the end of 1943, UlZIS assembled several hundred Studebaker trucks that arrived from the USA under Lend-Lease. And in February 1944, the construction of the plant in Miass was fully completed, and it was decided to transfer the assembly of ZISs beyond the Urals.

The transfer of the production of one and a half GAZ-AA vehicles from Gorky to Ulyanovsk began in the fall of 1945, and two years later, mass production of these vehicles began with a gradual increase in the share of components of our own production.

After the war, it was decided to load the idle capacities with the release of the GAZ-AA lorry, much needed for the country - this decision forever predetermined the relationship of Ulyanovsk cars with GAZ products. The first gas trucks rolled off the assembly line in October 1947. And seven years later, passenger cars also joined the trucks - at the end of 1954, the assembly of GAZ-69 off-road vehicles began. At the same time, the department of the chief designer was finally created at the plant - it was time to design their own models under the UAZ brand.

The first-born was the famous UAZ-450 family of wagon layout, the production of which began in 1958 and continues to this day in a modernized form. Especially for "loaves" and "tadpoles", a new body stamping shop was erected, and in the summer of 1962, to reduce labor intensity, a unique multi-level assembly line was launched, which was not at that time at any automobile plant in the USSR - and which still works today.

Nine thousand workers produced 55 thousand SUVs and trucks, and the net profit amounted to 1 billion 370 million rubles. The plan for this year is 57 thousand cars.


The production of GAZ-69 and 69A SUVs in Ulyanovsk began in 1954. With minor changes, the cars lasted 19 years on the assembly line - a total of 597 thousand cars were produced with a lower engine from Pobeda (2.1 l, 52 hp) and a three-speed gearbox
