Margarita Vasilyeva: biography

Margarita Vasilyeva (maiden name Filippova) is a Russian biathlete. She was born on June 5, 1991 in Novopavlovka, Chita Region. Champion and winner of the championship of Russia. He has the title of Master of Sports of Russia and officially represents the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Margarita grew up in a completely ordinary family, and her passion for sports gradually grew from a hobby into a professional career.

At first she played for her hometown, but later decided to move to the team of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The athlete stands for the Biathlon Academy. Her first mentor, who set the girl a certain pace, was Alexander Vasilyevich Kapustin. Rita confidently copes with strong physical exertion and has a rare ability to skillfully maintain speed throughout the entire distance, especially on the last lap.

As a child, she participated in school and regional competitions. At the same time, the young athlete was noticed by Alexander Vasilievich Kapustin and invited to train at the ski base. It was he who later managed to agree and send Margarita to a viewing camp in Chita to the talented coach Lyudmila Pavlovna Panova.

At the first summer training camp, Margarita won the control cross-country training and, as a result, began to engage in biathlon with Panova, Pavel Lantsov became the shooting coach. Together they taught the novice biathlete all the basics - to skate, to shoot.

Biathlon

The athlete came to professional biathlon quite late, at the age of 16. And already at the age of 20, Margarita Vasilyeva wins a brilliant victory in competitions among juniors, which took place during the hot summer. In 2012, she became a participant in the Junior World Championship, which was held by North Karelia.

The trips to various championships did not end there, in the same year she fights for first place at the European Championships. At the world biathlon championship, Vasilyeva takes only 8th place, but such a result for a young and promising athlete can be considered quite good. But at the European Championships, the biathlete makes a mistake, slowing down a little at a distance, which is why she was able to take only 11th place.

Good luck comes to Margarita in 2016, where she wins the qualifying competitions and participates in the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Otepää.

At the Russian Championship - 2018 in the city of Khanty-Mansiysk, she takes first place in the mass start, became the silver medalist in the pursuit (a type of biathlon race) and replenishes her treasury of awards with a bronze medal in the sprint. According to the results of the 2017/2018 season, Margarita wins the Russian Cup standings and takes an honorable first place.

In August 2018, together with athletes Nikita Porshnev and Yuri Shopin, he earns gold medals in the mixed relay at the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto. For the 2018/2019 sports season, the biathlete trained in the main team of the Russian women's team under the guidance of coach Vitaly Noritsyn.

Personal life

Athlete Margarita Vasilyeva does not like to tell the press about her personal relationships. She is currently married and has children. However, who exactly is her husband remains a secret for now.

The Internet is not full of bright headlines about the personal life of an athlete. But in a personal profile "Instagram" you can find more than one photo and video of her little 6-year-old son. In the comments under the publications, Margarita always writes that she misses her child very much.

Margarita Vasilyeva now

Few people realize that now a promising biathlete is one step away from not being included in at least the reserve team, all because she suffers from a serious illness. Since last year, Vasilyeva's biography has featured a disappointing diagnosis that doctors gave her - "bronchial asthma."

Theoretically, the athlete retains the full right to issue a therapeutic exception, which will allow her to legally take drugs that are prohibited by the WADA code for all other athletes. However, the difficulties lie in the fact that Vasilyeva still does not have the necessary information.

Margarita Vasilyeva will be able to feel absolutely healthy both in life and on the ski track if she is officially allowed to take salbutamol inhalations. It is a "threshold" substance. This means that salbutamol is allowed only in low concentrations. If the dose is exceeded, the athlete will be disqualified. Therefore, to receive this drug in a higher dosage, it is necessary to issue a therapeutic exception.

However, despite all the difficulties and obstacles in the way of the biathlete Margarita Vasilyeva, only her perseverance and a great desire to win brought up such qualities in the athlete as endurance and fortitude that any obstacles can be overcome.

In December 2018, the Russian biathlete commented to one of the sports publications about her performance in the pursuit race at the World Cup in Pokljuka. She admitted that the race seemed just crazy to her:

“Everyone is running away like stung ones.”

The athlete took 15th place in the standings, having missed in shooting the only time.

She started this season brilliantly, becoming the world champion in summer biathlon in the mixed relay and winning two silver medals at the Russian summer championship. For this season, the athlete is preparing in the group of Vitaly Noritsyn and, paradoxically, at a fairly respectable age, having a long career in biathlon behind her, she became the debutant of the national team. About why this happened so late and how Russian biathlon lives outside the national team, we talked with Margarita at the last pre-season training camp in Ramsau, Austria.

- You just now, at the age of 27, got into the base of the national team. Late formation?

- No, I was quite successful in juniors, but after giving birth five years ago, I had to return from scratch, because I actually wasn’t going to do this and was completely untrained. At the fourth month of pregnancy, I no longer trained and began to move only three months after giving birth, that is, nine months completely fell out, plus I lost a lot of weight, by eight kilograms, and could not gain the necessary muscle mass, not enough power.

- Why did you come back?

- My coach Lyudmila Panova went to work in Krasnoyarsk and called me from there, saying that there was an offer to continue my career for this region. My family supported me, my mother agreed to go with me and help raise the child, if only I continued to perform. The return has already begun in Krasnoyarsk. Before that, having received an offer, I, of course, already somehow stirred - I ran out of the house for two hours and did something. But I began to fully prepare after the move. In Krasnoyarsk, Valery Medvedtsev worked with me for two years, actually raised me from zero.

- Were there moments of despair, loss of faith that it would be possible to return?

- No, I liked to realize that I was adding, growing, bouncing back month after month. I enjoyed seeing how I was progressing against the background of others.

- Despite a long career, you have only three IBU Cups, one in the 2014/15 season and two last. Did it burn from the inside that you couldn’t be on the team for so long?

- It burned very hard. When you know that you are not so weak, you constantly want to prove it, you constantly think: “I want to join the national team, I want to be noticed, I want to run there, not here, this is not mine, you need to either go forward or tie it up” . It always pricked me, I wanted to cling to this trailer, it doesn’t matter even to the base or reserve, just to be in this mess and cook in it.

- Was it clear that you were no weaker than the girls who were sent to the IBU?

- No, you can't say that. After all, these girls and I practically did not intersect at the same competitions, they ran their selections, we ours. There was a feeling that we, Russia, are separate, and the national team is separate. Or that they are two similar but different sports; that is, getting into the national team looked like I would be called to cross-country skiing tomorrow. It was like: the national team prepares separately all summer, then somewhere among themselves they determine who runs the WC and who is the IBU, and then we see them only on the Izhevsk Rifle, where they usually sent two or three girls, with whom we had to fight. It was the one and only chance to get somewhere.

- The approach that will be this season - an expanded selection based on a sporting principle - should have been done a long time ago?

- A long time ago. I am glad that, for example, Kristina Ilchenko, will get a chance to qualify for the KM. The fact is that you can’t look at the shooting, this is not entirely correct. A good shooter, but slow on the track, will not run all of a sudden. And he might miss. But a fast, but unstable biathlete in shooting is able to shoot quite well and be very high. However, the practice of performing at a high level will certainly improve his shooting.

Therefore, I am very glad that such an opportunity will be given to all strong athletes. And the focus of the media, perhaps, will fall on those about whom they didn’t write much before, because they weren’t taken to the World Cups and the IBU.

- I suspect that in previous years, people in Russia were preparing for the Izhevsk Rifle, and not for those starts where the selection went from it?

– Yes, it was. The main thing is to qualify, to get to the IBU cups, and how you run there was not so important.

- How did the running cups of Russia feel about the fact that the national team was like a different sport?

– They were angry because they worked, trained, but no one saw us, no one cared. You are constantly waiting: “Well, look at me, pay attention to me!” But no one cares who you are and what you are, as if there are no other athletes besides those 12 people who go to the World Cups and the IBU. You're like a black man in apartheid South Africa, you're incomplete.

– Why was it so? Were the coaches of the national team afraid to lose in the general selection?

- I think the reasons are different. Firstly, they did not understand what to expect from those who were not observed during the training, whose potential was unknown to them. Secondly, it is possible that the team was prepared pointwise in one or two starts, so they did not attach importance to intermediate results.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjeQ9TEA46x/?taken-by=margarita__vasileva

- Can this season be called the most successful for you so far?

- Yes, that is right. Since spring, I have been working in Noritsyn's group, and this training suited me very well, although when I first got there, I thought that the loads were not enough. It seemed that the desired result would not be. But the summer championships, both in Russia and the world, showed that everything is in order.

- Maybe they used to recycle, if it seemed to Noritsyn that the loads were not enough?

- Now, when I tried this approach, yes, I have such thoughts, probably, in previous seasons I plowed somewhere. But you can’t just drop the load, everything must be calculated so that the body does not become exhausted, gaining shape. This is also important to remember.

- Did the growth of results, the gold of the summer World Cup, add ambitions?

- Mixed feelings. On the one hand, yes, ambitions have grown, on the other hand, thoughts have appeared: “What if this summer uniform cannot be transferred to winter? What if the girls who are behind now add later?” Therefore, I really want to see how I will look in the winter, in the snow.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BPNXWbNBN1Z/?taken-by=margarita__vasileva

How is your asthma doing?

- Everything is fine, there were no problems in the summer. I have not yet fully understood the conditions under which these bronchospasms occur. For example, now, when we go up to train on the Dachstein glacier, they are not there, although there is altitude, cold, wind and snow. The only thing that almost certainly causes such changes is high humidity.

- Didn't get a therapeutic exception for salbutamol?

- At the moment, I can’t even demonstrate the reasons for this, because, as I said above, there are none.

- Did you ever think of going to Europe, where such diseases are professionally diagnosed, creating a stressful situation during testing - a load on the treadmill in cold and humid air?

- There was a thought. I think if in the future bronchospasms begin to somehow interfere with me and the permitted dose of salbutamol is not enough, something will have to be done.

- Has it already happened that the dose did not help?

Yes, in winter. Sometimes after the competition it’s even embarrassing to go to the canteen, because wheezing when breathing is audible to everyone. The last time it happened at the seventh stage of the IBU Cup in Uvat, it was just not very cold there, but it was humid, and I was normally pressed down like that.

- Well, what if the problems start at the preselection in Kontiolahti?

- Based on the experience of past years, I can say that the disease manifests itself gradually during the season, not suddenly. I think that in Kontiolahti it is unlikely that it will suddenly cover so abruptly. And then I already know how to track and when to start sounding the alarm. In the first years, when this problem manifested itself, yes, I did not always have time to catch it on time, and it came to hospitalization. Now I carry a nebulizer with me, I do inhalations with approved drugs, this also helps to partially relieve an attack.

- You have been in biathlon for a long time, and you are a debutant in the national team. Who do you feel more like, a veteran or a rookie?

- Definitely not a veteran, rather a debutant. All this is interesting to me, I get acquainted with everything new. I felt like a veteran in a regional team, where young people looked at me as a model. And in the national team I am the same as everyone else, no one pays special attention to me.

Margarita Vasilyeva is a famous Russian biathlete. She was born on June 5 (twins according to the horoscope) 1991 in Novopavlovka. Her height is 162 centimeters, and her weight is 53 kilograms. Full name - Vasilyeva Margarita Andreevna.

Relatively little is known about her childhood. It is clear that she grew up in a completely ordinary family, and her love for the sport began to manifest itself gradually, as it usually happens. At the beginning of her career, she played for her native city, but a little later she decided to move to the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Margarita herself stands for the Biathlon Academy. Her first teachers, who set the girl such a pace, were Enkov and Kapustin. But in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, her mentor was such a talented coach as Lyudmila Panova.

successes

At the age of 20, Margarita Vasilyeva becomes the winner of the competition among juniors, which took place in 2011 during a hot summer. And a year later, she becomes a participant in the Junior World Championship, which was held in North Karelia. But this was not the end of her trips in the same year, she fought for first place in the European Championship. So, at the World Championships, Margarita Vasilyeva was able to take only eighth place, but this is not bad for such a young and promising athlete. True, at the European Championships, she slowed down a bit and took 11th place.

In 2014-2015 she participated in the IBU Cup, where Margarita took 21st place. In 2017, the Russian Championship was held, where she was able to overcome everyone and get her long-awaited gold medal. This was followed by other victories that could glorify their owner. Undoubtedly, it was perseverance and a great desire to win that made Margarita such an athlete who can handle any obstacles. Let's hope that she will continue to please her homeland with new medals and achievements.

Margarita Vasilyeva joined the national team at the age of 27, but at the same time, the coaches still consider her a growing, promising athlete, perhaps the most physically gifted in our team. The first stage of the World Cup in Pokljuka showed that the team's newcomers are in perfect order. Vasilyeva, along with Evgenia Pavlova and Valeria Vasnetsova, secured their place in the top twenty. In an exclusive interview with Sport24, she talked about progress in shooting, the atmosphere of the World Cup, separation from her son and a question for Thomas Bach.

“I didn’t achieve what I wanted, so the rating is “satisfactory””

- Why at the end of the stage did you modestly rate your result as a “three”, because for a beginner excellent shooting and stable hitting points is good?
- I think that this is not enough for me. I want more. Therefore, I will not dwell on this and say: “Cool! I have achieved what I wanted, and you can relax.” Until I achieved what I wanted, therefore the rating is “satisfactory”.

- But you do understand that not everything works out right away?
That's why I say that we must fight on. I want to achieve an "excellent" mark in other stages.

- There is an opinion among fans that you can get into the Russian national team only at the age of 25. Do you share it?
- No, because everything depends on the result. It doesn't matter how old you are. The same Vasnetsova is still a junior, but she is already here. It all depends on how ready you are to play for the country.

- You have a lot of newcomers in the team as never before. Do you stick together? Do you feel morally better when other girls are in the same situation?
- We all communicate together. We are comfortable and we support each other.

View this post on Instagram

- You supported the new selection criteria, because they give a chance to all athletes. But now the reverse side of the coin is for you: you have to constantly defend your place in the squad and prove that you are worthy to perform at the January stages of the World Cup.
- You have to play at full strength. Rotation can always touch you, but this is biathlon, and you can’t do anything about it. It used to be that the girls lost their shape, but they were still taken to the cup stages, although they could be exchanged for other athletes who were in better shape, but this did not happen.

- So which system is fairer? When is the rotation more active or when is the athlete trusted and given more room for error?
- More at the discretion of the coaches, because they see the situation better. Each athlete thinks that he is now ready to compete, but in fact, the coach's assessment is more important than the results of some control starts. The trainer is able to choose for himself a group of 5-6 people. It happens that an athlete emotionally did not cope with this particular race, but he is ready to run other starts. Does he have to wait until next season for his chance? The coach must see this and act according to the situation. There is also the Cup of Russia, where coaches can choose girls who are able to fight not even according to the results of the selection, but at their own discretion.

- Were you surprised that in Pokljuka, four Russians at once got into the top 20 of the overall standings based on the results of three races?
- Yes. It honestly surprised me. That year, the girls ran the stage worse, but we lost to them at the All-Russian starts, so I understood that the competition there is very high. When I first came here, I wondered how this could be.

- It turned out that the devil is not so terrible as he is painted?
- Yes.

“In the pursuit, everyone rushed as if stung. This doesn't happen in Russia."

- The key to this result is shooting. 98 out of 100 shots fired by the Russians hit the target. In the sprint, too, everything was fine. How did you manage to achieve such stability, because you never had a reputation as a super shooter?
- My coaches and I have worked hard on shooting and have grown a lot. In training, we calmly close all targets and leave training, shooting at zero. Previously, it happened to pinch yourself, not to cope emotionally, but now we have gone through a big school and are ready to shoot.

- Leonid Guryev said that when working with beginners, he had to start from the very beginning. What tips from the national team coaches helped you improve your shooting?
- Leonid Alexandrovich gave a lot in the technique of manufacturing. We really started from the basics. He filmed us on camera and showed us our mistakes. He paid attention to such rubbish as unnecessary interceptions, slow putting on, unnecessary movements at the ready. He showed us a clean position where you can win seconds. I am grateful to Leonid Aleksandrovich for such work.

- How much time do you spend on shooting simulators?
- In general, in the summer we almost “bachelor” for 30 minutes before each training session. Then we can “challenge” after training for ourselves. In the second training session, we first do a dry exercise, and then we can skate and run crosses even without shooting. Twice a day we do such a great job.

- In the sprint, you got the first two laps fast, and the last one was much weaker. Have you tried to work on the distribution of forces over the distance?
- I really quickly started there, but that was the task. She told herself to be patient. You need to take yourself by the scruff of the neck and rush in such a way as to feel the heaviness of the entire distance from the beginning to the end. It would be a shame if on the first lap they told me that I had a loss of 20 seconds. And so I ran on a par with the leaders and understood that there was simply no shape right now and for now I had to be patient.

- But at the same time, do you understand that with the best form you can keep this speed?
- Yes. Once we had the championship of Russia. Katya Yurlova and I fled the pursuit. I didn’t have very good skis, but it so happened that I tried to have a snack with her on the last lap. But here I can't do it. This tells me that I don't have a form yet. In pursuit, it seemed to me that everyone rushed headlong as if stung. It was not like usual when you roll at the beginning. They immediately began to jump uphill at such a speed that we have not seen in the championship and the Cup of Russia. Here the level is very high.

- How does your personal coach Lyudmila Panova communicate with the coaches of the national team and can he change the training plan?
- Coaches call up, but we have one plan. We all do it. The difference is only in time and mileage, and everything else we do the same. Lyudmila Pavlovna is simply interested in how I look, what condition I am in, but the plan does not correct.

- And how are the individual characteristics of each athlete taken into account?
- Can not say anything.

“Coaches stop me. I want to tear and throw right now "

- Previously, you worked with Valery Medvedtsev. Why did he work in the national team for only a year and still remain one of the most underestimated mentors in Russian biathlon?
- I think that he was simply not allowed to open up as a coach. He is a good, experienced and competent coach, but they wanted the result here and now, but this does not happen. So I think he got offended.

- Now you have an understanding of what you need to work on during the season and what qualities to improve in order to show maximum results?
- We were told that now we are just getting in shape. We have been preparing all summer, and now we need to accelerate and accelerate with starts so that we have enough form for the whole season.

- Do the words of the coaches match your own feelings?
- Everyone has disagreements. Every athlete who understands what he needs will have disagreements. But they are not critical. Sometimes I feel like we're doing little or slow work. I want to work faster, but the coaches stop me, they think that first you need to gain a base. They have their own plan, they understand what they are doing and where they are going. And I want here and now, to tear and throw right today.

- You are active in social networks. How do you manage to find time to communicate with the fans and does it harm the preparation?
- It's definitely not harmful. After training and competitions, we rest calmly. You're lying on the bed, so why not talk to people. There is nothing wrong.

View this post on Instagram

- You have a very athletic figure. Do you pay a lot of attention to trainers?
- In the summer we paid a lot of attention to strength work. This is the first time I've had this kind of training. I learned a lot of new strength exercises from the trainers. I did not even expect such an effect. Before the team, I did not come across this.

View this post on Instagram

- Getting into the national team means separation from loved ones. How does a son cope with a breakup with his mother? Speaking at the Russian Cup, did you have more opportunities to see him?
- No, we've been apart for a long time. In recent years, we have been building for the Universiade. We practically never visited Krasnoyarsk, because we have nowhere to train. All the time spent on the road or somewhere at the training camp. If there were several free days, they came home, but literally for five days. You can't cool down your body any longer.

“It’s unusual when my son calls me “woman”

- Does the son understand how significant this achievement is for mom?
- He is used to the fact that I am an athlete. When he was a year old, I took him to all training camps, but then I realized that it was very difficult. Now he sits with my mother, and he is comfortable, like any child. He seems to be with his mother, but it’s unusual for me when he confuses me with her and sometimes calls me a “woman”. I would like to raise a child myself, give him knowledge and maternal warmth, but such is life. Everyone has her own.

Does he watch races on TV?
- Of course. He is rooting for me with my grandmother. At first he did not understand how I got into the TV, and was very happy about it. We call up, and he says: “Imagine, I saw you on TV.” From childhood, he understands that I am an athlete. I ask him leading questions: “Do you want to be a doctor or an athlete?” He replies: "I want to be an athlete, as strong and as fast as you."
