Environmental organizations of the Russian Federation. World environmental organizations Why are environmental organizations created?

International environmental organizations in Russia are subdivisions of one or another structure engaged in environmental activities within the framework of their specialized program. The main goals and objectives of such structures do not differ, only some minor features depending on the region of the unit can be different.

As a rule, the work of international environmental organizations in Russia, as in other countries of the world, is to protect the natural environment from the harmful effects of various industries, prevent the irrational use of natural resources, protect protected areas, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Most organizations try to conduct as wide a range of environmental protection activities as possible, but almost everyone specializes in one. This can be protection against pollution of a certain region (reserved area, unique natural object), or systematic large-scale garbage collection in a certain area, or a series of actions to preserve a rare species of animal or plant that is on the verge of extinction or is approaching it.

World Wildlife Fund (WWF)- one of the largest environmental organizations in the world, whose work is to study the negative impact on the natural environment, reduce this impact, prevent the destruction of the natural habitat of animals and preserve biological diversity. The Foundation has more than 5,000 employees and about 5,000,000 associates worldwide.

In our country, this international environmental organization opened its representative office in 1994, but made its first steps back in 1988 when carrying out some projects. The World Wildlife Fund has implemented more than 150 projects in more than 40 regions of the Russian Federation. More than $30,000,000 was spent on projects.

Priority areas of the international environmental organization WWF in Russia:

1. Regulation and improvement of the legal framework, reducing the burden on the natural environment and rational use of resources in the oil and gas industry.

2. Preventing the impact of human activity on changing climatic conditions on the planet, preventing the existing impact.

3. Protection of marine resources, flora and fauna of the seas.

4. Measures to prevent deforestation and preserve the biological diversity of forest zones.

5. Carrying out work to identify areas subject to negative impact, transfer them to the status of specially protected natural areas.

6. Protection of endangered species of animals (Amur tiger, Amur leopard, snow leopard, Caucasian leopard, bison, Atlantic walrus).

Since WWF is an international organization, most of the financial investments come from abroad, however, the number of supporters of the fund in Russia was constantly growing and by 2015 there were already more than 20,000 of them. Dozens of large Russian companies financed the projects of the fund.

Marine Stewardship Council is an international environmental organization whose work is used all over the world, including in Russia.

The priority direction of the council is the development and implementation of certification for the management of biological resources of marine territories. Their job is also to prevent overfishing and protect rare species of marine life. It is an independent association with more than a hundred employees.

Fishing enterprises that comply with the rules and regulations developed by the Marine Stewardship Council, in return, receive the right to use special markings, which indicate that this enterprise belongs to bona fide manufacturers and suppliers. Such an emblem on the product increases the authority of the manufacturer and indicates the high quality of the product and the fact that it was produced in a legal way.

International Renewable Energy Network (INFORSE)- the largest non-profit network that works on the creation of highly efficient systems and processes, renewable energy sources, closed energy cycles that improve the ecological situation on Earth. This international environmental organization has developed programs for energy conservation and renewal of energy sources for Russian-speaking states, including Russia.

CCAMLR- an environmental organization established on the basis of the convention for the conservation of Antarctica and its marine biological resources.

The main stumbling block in the region was the Antarctic krill, in which interest was shown by almost all countries of the world capable of working on its fishery. Krill is the foundation of the Antarctic food chain, so its large-scale destruction could lead to irreversible consequences, up to the complete destruction of the ecosystem. This is what prompted the creation of a program to protect Antarctic marine resources. which was immediately joined by 25 states from all over the world, Russia was naturally among them.

Greenpeace- are engaged in a whole range of areas related to nature protection.

Greenpeace is complemented by international environmental organizations in Russia in all areas. This independent conservation community was formed in 1971, and in the 2000s already has more than 1,000 employees, tens of thousands of helpers and volunteers, and millions of like-minded people in all countries. Their work is devoted to the most global and urgent environmental problems: climate change, deforestation, poaching, destruction of the natural habitat of animals and plants, pollution of the oceans, radiation hazard, solid household waste, air pollution, etc.

Greenpeace pays great attention to the protection of unique natural objects and even large regions, such as the Arctic and Antarctic. In Russia, Greenpeace activists run many large and small projects, conduct independent environmental reviews, go to accident sites and take samples. For example, they acted in a project to clean up the Neva River in St. Petersburg, urgently responding to complaints from local residents. This project is just one of the examples implemented by activists.

The number of environmental organizations both in Russia and around the world is constantly growing due to the emergence of new environmentally oriented movements. Some of them are designed specifically to protect the environment, while the latter perform separate protection functions.

The need for the existence of environmental organizations

    Socio-ecological academy

This all-Russian organization is engaged in research and development in the field of ecology, promotes the formation of socio-economic policy, and participates in the development of environmental education. It also supports the most significant and promising research in the field of ecology. Promotes the preservation and revival of national cultural values.

International environmental organizations in Russia make a significant contribution to solving environmental problems. All the principal organs and specialized agencies of the United Nations are involved in environmental activities. United Nations Environment Program - UNEP. The main subsidiary body, which has existed since 1972, is UNESCO, which assists in the maintenance of peace and international security. Deals with issues of interstate cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture. FAO deals with issues related to food resources, the development of agriculture in order to improve the living conditions of peoples.

    WHO

The World Health Organization was established in 1946. Its main goal is to take care of people's health, which, of course, is connected with protection and is engaged in studying the Earth's ozone layer, assessing the transfer of pollutants. In addition, environmental activities are carried out by the following environmental organizations not under the auspices of the UN: the European Economic Community, the European Council, Helcom, Euratom and others.

An international organization established in 1962. The work of the fund is aimed at stopping the destruction of the environment, attracting finance to protect nature and save some species of animals from the complete extinction and extinction of plants.

Many environmental organizations, including the independent international organization Greenpeace, are engaged in the protection of nature and peace on the planet. Greenpeace's main goal is to find a way out of international environmental troubles, drawing the attention of both society and the authorities to this. This organization exists solely on donations from supporters, does not accept any financial assistance from either state structures or from the municipality, political parties and business representatives.

Challenges for Environmental Organizations in Russia

The work of environmental organizations in Russia is hampered by such factors as distrust of the authorities, accusations of organizations of espionage, limited and difficult access to information.

The work of environmental organizations in Russia is necessary, but not all enterprise managers share this opinion. The environmental management system was created to find the balance between economy and ecology, which is so necessary. Its essence is in a clear organizational structure, the purpose of which is to achieve the position indicated in the environmental policy through programs for the protection of the living environment that comply with the international standards ISO 14 000. Enterprises that apply an environmental management system have a number of advantages. This is a favorable image of the company due to the greening of production, membership in environmental unions, attracting investors. This is what the work of environmental organizations is designed for.

A significant disadvantage is a narrow understanding of the essence of environmental management on the part of the top management of commercial enterprises. As a rule, Russian enterprises pay insufficient attention to environmental activities, which is highly disapproved of by environmental organizations in Russia. This is explained by excessive costs for environmental protection measures. Russian companies should gradually introduce an environmental management system into production because of its necessity, usefulness, importance and profitability. The state is able to help and contribute to these processes by introducing a unified accreditation system, and the work of environmental organizations in Russia will be more efficient.
