Garden cart with motor. Self-propelled carts will help you forget about hard work

“I received two educations - both a mechanic and a mechanical engineering technologist. I love coming up with new projects and innovative solutions to any problems I face or projects that get abandoned because they hit a dead end. Instead of just making something that will work, I prefer to make something that will work better than anyone expected. Here's what I came up with when my last thought hit me: an electric construction wheelbarrow. This project started out as a yard helper, but beta testing has shown the amazing versatility of this mechanism. This wheelbarrow can help many people in a variety of conditions: my wife ran 4m of mud and 4m to the top of a hill in mud at the end of an Oregon winter. In her words, "There was no other way to make this journey without a wheelbarrow like this. Everyone needs one of these." I see this will allow our older population to continue doing complex projects in the yard and beyond. I see the use of this wheelbarrow for contractors, beach goers, pit races, and many other areas of construction. My car will go uphill, through mud, gravel, sand, in clouds of dust, overcome small obstacles on the ground, without much effort on the part of the user.

With the prize money, I'll buy enough parts to build 50 wheelbarrows as the first shipment. These 50 units will be enough for me to get my cars certified and promote them to the construction market. I will use the remaining money to promote my brand through marketing. I also work for the site where the cars will eventually be sold www.deadnutsdesignco.com"

An equally incredible project is the combination of a bicycle and an electric drill - however, they are doing it now.

Any gardener definitely needs equipment for tilling the soil and plants - and the lighter it is, the easier it is to work. Therefore, most summer residents, perhaps, would not even refuse such a device as a garden cart with a motor.

In any case, it’s very difficult to do without a wheelbarrow, because with its help you can perform all transportation work and its body will hold much more than a bucket, and it’s easier to roll (push) the container than to carry it in your hands. Let's see what we can do on our own, as well as your attention - the video in this article, which will reveal the nuances of this topic.

Wheelbarrow for giving

What are they like

  • It does not matter at all whether the wheelbarrow will be bought in a store or it will be a decorative do-it-yourself garden cart, first of all you need to pay attention to the chassis, as your labor costs depend on it. If you see small wheels on the undercarriage, then it is good to carry loads with such a wheelbarrow only on a flat and hard surface (asphalt, concrete, boardwalk), as they do not overcome obstacles well. If there are two, three or four wheels, then this means stability, besides, they will not sink into the ground as much as one, but on the other hand, a structure with one wheel can be transported along a narrow crossing over a moat.

  • If you need to transport heavy loads, then it is definitely better to opt for a two-wheeled trolley.(three or four-wheeled) - they, of course, have a higher price, but they have the stability you need. For the movement of such transport, handles are used, which can be longitudinal (2 pieces) or transverse, in the form of the letter P, but this does not affect the ease of maintenance. If we talk about the body, then it is most often made of steel, but since you like metal more, it is better to stay on aluminum - it is much lighter, and it is not necessary to paint it, since it is not subject to rust.
  • The cost, as already noted, depends on the number of wheels, but the size of the body and the material from which it is made also affect the financial side of the issue.. So, if the capacity does not exceed 80 liters, and the chassis is with one wheel with a diameter of 30 cm, then most likely you can meet 1300-1500 rubles. But if you need more wheels and a larger body size, then most likely you will have to shell out about 3,000 rubles or even more.

We do it ourselves

Note. It is best to start making a homemade car from the chassis - it is much easier to adjust the dimensions of the body, unless, of course, it is already ready for you or you do not make it from any container, for example, from a trough.
This, of course, is not an installation manual, but just good advice to the gardener, who, in terms of the size and power of the frame, will find it much easier to choose the volume of the body.

For the chassis, choose wheels with a diameter of at least 30 cm and it is best if the sleeve is there with a bearing into which you can insert the axle. But you do not have to select the entire axis according to the diameter of the sleeve - for this it is enough to weld fittings of the desired diameter onto the pipe, which will fit tightly into the bearing.

In addition, it is best to choose wheels with inflatable ramps - this will greatly facilitate the movement of the cart, so an elastic deformable tire will drastically reduce the resistance to changes in the terrain of the site.

It is also best to assemble the entire frame from pipes (electric-welded pipes can be used - the strength of hot-deformed ones is not necessary here) with a diameter of 32-40 mm. If you take a smaller section, then this may not be enough for heavy loads, and a larger section will increase the weight of the structure, and too thick handles are also not very convenient.

We continue to consider one of the ways how to make a DIY garden cart and move on to assembling the body, which can be made from either OSB (OSB) or galvanized sheet steel. We still focus on the second option, as more reliable and durable.

For this, a sheet with a thickness of 1 mm is excellent, and if you take one piece (1250 × 2500 mm), then this will be quite enough for your plan. First of all, you need to determine the size of the bottom, and cut the sides from it.

There is one caveat here - you don’t have to cut 5 pieces at all, you can simply draw the sheet to the desired size and cut triangles at the four corners with a grinder. Then you fold the cut sheet and weld the joints with electric welding. In order not to make mistakes in the calculations, it is best for you to glue several newspapers with clerical glue and make a pattern out of them, which can be put on metal and outlined with a marker.

The need to transport goods can arise for everyone: this is the supply of building materials at a construction site, and garbage disposal, and harvesting in the country, and cleaning cut branches and foliage when working in the garden, and many other situations. In most cases, you can use an ordinary wheelbarrow, but this is far from always convenient: even the most ergonomic model leads to rapid fatigue during long work, and transporting extremely heavy loads over an uneven surface of the site becomes a real problem. To solve these problems, there is a separate category of agricultural equipment - self-propelled carts, they are also motorcycles.

General principle of operation

In fact, this name hides a fairly large variety of units, but they are all arranged according to the same principle: an engine is installed on the frame that drives the wheels, a metal / plastic trough or a rectangular container with a tipping function, and all controls are placed on paired handles located at the back. Since the engine is installed at the rear and disturbs the balance, self-propelled cars are equipped with additional wheels located under the handles.

Kinds

The entire mass of manufactured machines can be divided into groups according to two independent parameters.

By type of installed engine

Cars with a motor are produced, gasoline and battery, and the latter are produced exclusively by GreenWorks, which has significantly succeeded in the development and production of more convenient battery instead of electrical equipment with a power cable.

Models with an electric motor are light and compact, and their performance is sufficient for most household tasks, such as working on a garden plot or in a vegetable garden.

Gasoline self-propelled machines are more massive, large and productive. In addition, all the main components in them are made of metal, so they can experience significantly greater loads. Such wheelbarrows with a motor are equally well suited for a summer residence or a private house and for work on a construction site, if the materials are located not too far from the place of work.

By type of transmission

Most self-propelled wheelbarrows are equipped with a pair of large pneumatic wheels, but there is a second type, usually called self-propelled carts or even conveyors - they are equipped with tracks.

For domestic use in the country, a wheeled unit is quite enough - it is lighter, easier to manage and faster. Tracked vehicles are designed for more complex tasks: transporting a large amount of cargo (therefore, they are equipped not with a standard stamped wheelbarrow, but with a large rectangular container) and work on difficult terrain - they do not slip when moving uphill and overcome obstacles well on unpaved territory.

Manufacturers

In addition to the above-mentioned GreenWorks brand, motorcycles are also produced by companies such as:

  • Worx,
  • eurosystems,
  • Oleo Mac.

In addition, the Russian ZID plant produces the “MBG-1 Fishkar motorized towing vehicle”, which, in fact, is also a folding self-propelled cart of the original design.

Additional functions

Eurosystems' Carry is designed for more than just transporting goods. In fact, the company positions it as a multifunctional platform, therefore it makes it possible to easily dismantle the trough and install optional attachments: a platform, a high container, a mechanical lift or a snow plow.

Where to buy self-propelled carts?

Trolleys and wheelbarrows with a gasoline or electric motor from leading world and Russian brands can always be bought at Garden Mechanisms. You can visit our retail store in Moscow or order a suitable model from the website with delivery anywhere in Russia.

TROLLEY BUCKET OWN HANDS

MODERN GARDEN CARTS ARE GOOD, BUT THEY HAVE SEVERAL DEFECTS - DUE TO THE HIGH POSITIONED BODY, THEY ARE UNCONVENIENT TO LOAD, THEY ARE UNSTABLE. THEREFORE, I DID NOT SPEND ON PURCHASING STORE OPTIONS, BUT MADE MY OWN.

It took: the frame of the trolley for carrying hand luggage sheet aluminum 3 mm thick four duralumin corners 25 × 25 mm screws with M4 nuts.

I removed the old paint from the surface of the frame and went over all the details with sandpaper. I replaced the "native" wheels with more durable ones. The frame was primed and painted (photo 1).

I cut out two triangular parts from an aluminum sheet with an angle at the top of 110 degrees. The length of the side faces can be any, in my case - 70 cm. From the same material I cut out two rectangular parts 70 cm long and a width equal to the distance between the wheels on the trolley.

On the side faces of the triangular parts and the long faces of the rectangular parts, departing from the edge by 1 cm, I drilled the same number of holes at a distance of 5 cm from each other.

I drilled similar holes at the same level in the shelves of duralumin corners. Fixing metal parts together with screws and nuts. assembled the "body-bucket" (photo 2)

Bolted the body to the frame.

In order for the load to be in the trolley, it is not necessary to lift it, just tip over the body and move the wheelbarrow close to it, then roll the luggage. To unload, you need to follow the same steps, but in reverse order (photo 3)

Another feature of such a trolley is that the cargo on it can be delivered inside any country house by climbing the stairs.

CAR WITH A MOTOR OWN HANDS

During the arrangement of the site, it was necessary to transport a lot of sand and gravel. To do this, he converted his snow blower into a self-propelled cart. It turned out to be a rather convenient design, which helped me out throughout the entire construction period.

The snow thrower with the auger was disconnected from the motor unit with the running gear.

From a metal profile pipe with a cross section of 20 × 40 mm, I welded a rectangular frame with a size of 450 × 600 mm. I attached wheels d 250 mm to one side of it at the corners, and welded plates with holes (photo 1) to the opposite side for attaching to the snow blower chassis.

I connected the bogie frame with the running gear of the unit with bolts.

From plywood 10 mm thick, I made a bunker (photo 2) 90 cm long and 70 cm wide at the top. I connected the plywood sheets together with plastic corners and self-tapping screws.

To attach the plywood "body" to the front of the frame, I welded door hinges (see photo 1). turned out to be a small dump truck.

The self-propelled cart turned out to be very convenient and in demand in the household, and my wife liked it, who helped me in everything.

If the farm does not have a snow blower, a walk-behind tractor can replace it.
