runes of love

Part 1

cruel games

Light is easy to love. look at my darkness

[edit. R. Queen]

I ran away from Yarra three days after our first night. And no, not at all because the first time he was rude. On the contrary, gentle. Well, as far as it is possible with the obsession with flair ...

I remember that the night was stuffy and beads of sweat dripped down my chest and down my neck.

I didn’t know how to lace corsages at all then, and all my determination ended around the second row, when the satin strings wrapped around my fingers. I blushed, pulled them, feeling like a complete fool, and angry tears welled up in my eyes - not only did I have to undress in front of the count, but also ...

- I will help.

I didn’t even notice how he approached – barefoot, Yarra moved completely silently. Men's hands quickly coped with the lacing and dragged the dress down, caressing the exposed body. The magic tattoo of the family in the form of a grinning wolf on his chest sparkled, painfully prickling the skin, and it came to mind so inopportunely that the palm now lying on my stomach could break through a wooden shield. I clutched at the silk of the dress, preventing it from sliding down.

- Coward ......

I stood in the middle of the room with my head down and hiding under my hair. Yarra walked around me, stopping behind me. His palms lay on my shoulders, stroked them, ran along the collarbones, gathered curls into a handful, forcing me to tilt my neck to the side and back. The hot mouth left hot marks on my skin, and when his lips pressed against the beating vein on my neck, I could not stand it, sobbed, trying to escape.

The Count did not allow it, covered my mouth with a kiss, muffling my scream, bit it and immediately licked his lip, catching my breath. I remember well my feelings then: the sticky silk of a dress in a handful, the frosty pricks of a tattoo in my palm - I rested against his chest, trying to keep the distance between our bodies - my feverish trembling and the pressure of his hard lips. Yarra's hands slid down his bare back, squeezing his buttocks, pressing me against his hips.

My Lyra...

I closed my eyes so as not to see his gaze, dark with passion, even turned away, and he spread my arms to the sides, and the unrestrained dress slipped, a scarlet puddle spread across the floor. There were only stockings and shoes with buckles at the ankles - the rosettes of the clasps seemed incredibly stupid to me.

Yarra laid me on the bed, tried to engage me in a love game, but I only crumpled the sheets, forcing myself to lie still. At first, the count was amused by how I shudder and twitch at the slightest touch, then it began to irritate me.

- What are you like a doll ...

The weight of the man's body made it difficult to breathe. Rigid callused palms squeezed the mounds of his chest, greedy lips absorbed one pink dome, then another. Sucked, pinched, pulled until I started moaning. Yarra moved down, kissing his belly, his thighs, his hot breath searing his crotch, and the world exploded.

- No need!

I arched, resting on his shoulders, trying to push him away, tear him away from me. His tongue was doing something unimaginable, wrong, sinful. I was all turned into one bare nerve, wriggling under the count. I never thought that he was capable of such ... That I was able to survive such sensations. The languor grew, I, having lost all shame, pressed his head to my hips, moved towards his lips and, it seems, asked him not to stop.

    The gods are bored.
They have everything, you know? They burn incense and make sacrifices, they do not need to work, getting bread, they do not need to fight, protecting the house. And they are bored. And to have fun, they find some person for themselves and turn his life into a crazy swing.

Those who are familiar with the first book in this series, most likely, already intend to read the second. because dangerous mix continuous intrigue, adventure and emotional tension, combined with a good literary language and a responsible approach to detailing a fictional world, few people can be left indifferent.

The fashion for the Middle Ages with an admixture of magical surroundings is very relevant today. And sometimes it seems that the Middle Ages are already inseparable from magic, because it is simply impossible to achieve historical plausibility, to cleanse the era from the admixture of myths. In the light of the legends of King Arthur, the Germanic and Scandinavian epics, the works of Tolkien, Sapkowski and Martin, nothing remains but to believe in the obligatory magical component of that time.

So the cycle of novels about Lear successfully continues the established tradition, combining cruel heroism with the existence of charms, amulets, artifacts and flair. Singing the inexorable craving for life and describing the inhuman brutality of medieval wars. Drawing an era at the same time merciless, like an ax blade, and romantic, like the idealized representations of the Pre-Raphaelites. However, courtesy in the novel tends to zero, and it is battles, sieges and campaigns that rule the ball, as well as all kinds of manifestations of deceit and treachery.

The first book was a little more descriptive. The second gives more reasons for empathy. She tells, first of all, about growing up and the ability to go beyond the limits of one's egoism. The mutual dependence of the main characters at first makes them only want to get rid of the hated attraction, and then gradually develops into forgiveness and understanding. If you want to call it all a pathetic word "love"- it's up to you, just keep in mind that it has been so worn out over the past centuries that I would not give a penny for its dubious reputation.

The level of psychologism in the work is raised quite high, the consistency of the characters' characters and their consistent development are in place. True, relationships sometimes go so far beyond the line that nothing separates this book from the tag "romanticization of violence". Well, the ruthless realism of the Middle Ages inclines, although it does not oblige.

However, this novel is good example high-quality domestic fantasy. With a bright and energetic heroine, on whose behalf the story is being told. Moreover, I can’t treat someone who likes to automatically mentally push such books into the “female fantasy” section, but, from my point of view, “male fantasy” in this regard looks much more unpromising.

And, finally, the epilogue directly alludes to the third book - not all dots have been set yet, not all enemies have been defeated, not all heroes and villains have received what they deserved. Wangyu, and the apogee of ruthlessness has not yet been passed. So we are waiting for new bloody battles and vile intrigues.

    Elena Litvinenko - Counselor's Wolf (Lyra #2/3)

    3.5 out of 10

    Genre: high fantasy, adult
Chips: magic, politics, flair, a la the Middle Ages, war
    fail: romance
    wow: war, politics
pov: first person, female; third person, male
Geometry of feelings: everyone wants GG

    Quote Essence:

"Problems thrown by the gods do not have correct answers."

    Review (light spoilers)...

The second part of Lyra absorbed all the jambs of the previous book and brought them to the point of absurdity, and the pluses "Counsellor's Dolls" - trampled.

    What did you like:

    - War. Explanatory descriptions, thoughtful strategy, realistic tin.
    - Politics. Power struggle, intrigue.
    - Twist in the middle of a book.
    - Richard. An adequate person with an adequate offer, which, of course, was rejected by the inadequate Lyra.

    On this, perhaps, everything.

    What did not like:

    - Stockholm region. If in the first part the violence was not romanticized and the GG was clearly aware that her patron was an asshole, now, dratuti, we fell in love. And so that the book would not end there, the author came up with a sea of problems: he shouted at me, I want-but-I don’t want, he is too kind, he is too angry and other blah blah blah. He raped you, you fool. Focus on it.

    - Sex. Fuck sex. What more! With nipple peas, male hands, male lips, male fingers, thank you for not having male rods (although I could have missed it because I read in turbo mode). It is already clear to everyone what Radu is doing with Lyra, why should 80% of the book be devoted to successful and unsuccessful attempts to fill her up?

    - Very vulgar gibberish. All these "elven my blue-eyed" and "wild cat" cause eye bleeding.

    - Romance. At first it seemed that the author was by no means happy for this couple. The rapist and the victim... what's their future? It turned out to be gold, and Litvinenko is seriously pushing the idea of a big and clean one between Radu and Lira. I'm sorry, I'm sick...

    - World. Liziria and Ryana seemed (and were) quite an original setting, but as soon as the world expanded, it became clear that this was not a high, but a stupid low with a substitution of concepts. Here you have sphinxes, and Agrabah, and sushi, and other things from our world. I was hoping the author would stop at Angelique Evangeline. But no, meet rimela-romale, "Swept away by the storm" - "Gone with the wind", sultans, geishas and other settlers.

    - Modernity disguised as magic. Mobile communications, advanced medicine, energy. All this was in the last book, but in a smaller amount.

    - Mixed swearing. Why invent “Dgorka r’es”, “larvin dol” and “briga” (a disgusting word, by the way), and then write something like:

Are you out of your mind, Lyra?
    - You accidentally fucked Richard, then you accidentally started sucking on him and pumping out the poison, did I understand you correctly?
I pulled you out of the dirt, I fulfilled your whims and whims. And you screwed everything up.

    Did the editor clean up?

    - Inaction for the sake of the plot. When Lyra was attacked and beaten half to death (or even up to ¾), she did not even think to turn on the flair, although she would have bought time right away + she could have turned the attackers against each other.

    - Lyra. God, what an inadequate fool! I hate him, but it’s normal to fuck, but I want to run away, although I seem to be used to comfort, and I also love, but I don’t love and, of course, I hate, take your hands off, but rather leave them, I hate.

    - Graph. Crazed idiot. It rumbles, it growls, it shows off. And we also have him as Marty Stu, which, coupled with the role of a rapist ... is a direct victory, well. Does anyone like him?

    - Alan never been such a cretin as he appeared on the pages of the second part. The Persian was simply merged.

    - All allies, friends and even "brother" in love with Lyra. She does not know how to be friends, it is necessary to sparkle with a flair (we remember that he is under control). And someone like Sally was generally destined to become her admirer.

That's how the cool story about the formation of Lyra rolled into a tabloid novel. I won't read the sequel.

  1. Rated the book

    Contains minor spoilers.

The book is very strong - style, plot, characters. At first, it was not entirely clear to me why the genre was defined as "female fantasy" - in my eyes, the novel is quite epic. An excellently drawn world. The action takes place in different parts the world and in different sectors of society. A superbly written background, entourage, you can very clearly imagine where the heroine is, what is happening around her - from scrubbing cauldrons to balls in the prince's castle.

Then I realized that, apparently, female fantasy means that the action is centered around one woman and her love relationship. I also understood why "fleur" is a curse. Because no one can love the heroine. Fleur is such a magical thing that makes you fall in love with her, lust for her, want to be near her alone. But not to love. None of the men attached to her love her - neither Radu, nor Timar, nor Alan, nor Arno. They depend on her. Sometimes they even hate her and her addiction. Trying to overcome it, take control. Addiction wins.

Here the heroine loves them, sincerely and fervently. Ready to sacrifice herself for them, to fulfill any order, to kill innocent people. It does not require them to be around at all. The main thing is to be safe and happy. And whether nearby - how lucky.

The main thing for her men is that she is there. And happy - it implies that she is happy by default if she is with them. In the end, no one is happy. Relationships are oppressive, suffocating. Close together, apart it hurts. Textbook co-dependence with Flerov will be substantiated.

PS: the review was written while reading the first part ("Counselor's Doll") and about three-quarters of "The Wolf" in the process of laying out in samizdat. Relevant to both. Added after reading:

By the end, the author still found an alternative to co-dependent relationships. The hero has learned to resist "attacks of flair" and to control his attitude towards the heroine, to reckon with her desires, to teach her martial arts skills. An interesting move: Radu mercilessly drilled Lira, while she thought that he was taking revenge for involuntary treason. And he just wanted her to have a better chance of surviving the next persecution - inevitable in a hostile medieval world)))) -.
It's funny that the characters do not understand each other at all, distort the motives in relationships and actions, treat each other very ambiguously, but at the same time, both have a sincere and very touching concern. When the life of one is in danger, the second leaves all grievances and claims out of his head, and the only thought at that moment is if only he lives, if only everything is in order with her. And when the situation stabilizes, resentment and claims come out again and the characters begin to harass each other))

And finally, I would like to note a worthy conduct of intrigue. The plot is quite simple, there are no Martinovian plot interlacings, the narration is centered around the heroine. The political intrigues of the hero seem to be woven into her existence and reach the reader insofar as Lyra knows about them and they affect her personally. However, the emotional reaction of the heroine to everything that happens, the heartfelt focal color the accompanying action with very bright colors)

In a word, lovers of an epic, well-designed world, psychological problems and political intrigues - mastrid))) In Russian, I did not expect to meet anything like this)

Lyra:

Advisor Wolf #2/3
Untitled #3/3

I am delighted. A book hasn't captivated me this much in a long time. To be honest, I did not expect such an intensity of passions from the continuation of "Counselor's Doll". As a rule, the continuation of the series with each book is weaker and weaker. But "Counselor's Wolf" is a pleasant surprise for readers. I gave the novel the highest score, and if I could add another plus, I would not hesitate to raise the rating. Continuation of the story of Lyra. Very rich and varied adventure. The book contains so many storylines forming one, but very informative story. This time, the author meticulously and in detail described the fantasy world within which the story is being told. Everything became clear and understandable. new countries, new life, diverse races, religion, political system. Even incomprehensible curses smoothly fit into the plot. There are no cut ends in the course of the story. And although many heroes appeared and disappeared from view, but their story was brought to a logical conclusion. But at the same time, the author did not reveal all the cards and the continuation of the series, revealing white spots will be necessary. I did not expect that I would like the novel so much and although I see some of its shortcomings, they still pale in front of big picture storytelling. A bright and bewitching plot, not stereotyped characters who have all the qualities that make them strong personalities. A memorable story with a subtle author's play on words. And of course, love - how could it be without it. But you should not look for suddenly flashed feelings and cardboard relationships on the pages of the book. Everything is much more complicated and therefore more interesting. Heroes will go through a lot before they understand themselves and those around them. Their feelings will be born slowly. And it was this slowness that gave zest to the story. The characters have not yet reached full mutual understanding, but everything is going to a happy ending. I will wait for the end of the series, and I advise fans of the genre to definitely get acquainted with the book. And don't be put off by the mediocre beginning of The Counselor's Doll. The she-wolf is much better and more interesting.
