Getting promoted: how to interview for a managerial position. The game to raise the stakes: what is behind the "rocket" divorce of the United States and Russia

I signed up for the course, because I have been working at the same place for 2 years and it's time to move on.
I tried to apply something from what I heard immediately after listening to the casts.
To date:
1. I have already been invited to meetings with managers 3 times (on strategic issues about product optimization and promotion), which has never happened before. Moreover, the bosses were not only middle-level, but also above average.
2. Invited to the next meeting following the results of the quarter - usually at such meetings they not only sum up the results, but also discuss new appointments and promotions. Since I was invited to the next meeting, we can conclude that there is a likely increase (either salary or position, or maybe both together 🙂)
3. They gave me a lot of work big project(these are usually assigned to senior or lower-level bosses, and not to employees of my level - apparently they decided that they would pull it or check before promotion 🙂)
That's all for now, but not much time has passed since the course, and the achievements are already noticeable!

- Lesya Karachunova,

I doubted, because. I thought that here again is another guide “how to lose weight in 5 days without doing anything” or there will be some kind of banality like “follow the instructions of the guide, but not simply, but smartly, and then everything will be ok.”

In the course "Going for a promotion" for myself useful information was the use of power, to put the interests of the office above their own, to resolve issues from the point of view of higher management (both for themselves and for them). I applied advice to my bad experience as first deputy and realized that I made several mistakes described by Konstantin.

And I myself could not figure out why everything worked out for me when I was the owner and general director of the business (then I sold it successfully), and it didn’t work at all to be a mercenary, deputy general director in a semi-state structure - I started twice, and in different offices, and after 9-12 months he left - it did not work! If I applied the information from this course, then everything would work out!

Now I turn to text more often in many work situations and often find an answer or at least a hint of a direction for solving problems, what I did wrong, what needs to be done.

- Alexey Rodionov, reader of the course "I'm going for a promotion"

I bought the course almost a year ago and during this time I listened to 50 times, no less. You can even say that for several days in a row I just listened to him. Then less often 🙂

It so happened that 2 years ago I got a promotion, and immediately through the step. Naturally, after the initial adaptation to the scope of duties, I immediately began to acquire new knowledge on team management, which I lacked. "Nine Communication-2" has certainly become a lifeline. With these skills, I'm quite confident to stay afloat. And I want to move, move forward. I have read and listened to a lot of things in two years. Therefore, when I saw the course "I'm going to increase" on sale, I immediately bought it. As it turned out, I was approximately in the middle of the "ladder". I saw how many mistakes I made while climbing to the current place. Unfortunately, much of what has already been done cannot be corrected - the more reliably it will be remembered. But the path above is laid out quite clearly.

Thanks to Konstantin for the course, I really count on trying out his methodology as a deputy director and as a director.

- Konstantin Chernyshov, reader of the course "I'm going for a promotion"

What was interesting and new in the course "I'm going for a promotion"? Everything. I have never seen such a well-structured description anywhere else. Got answers to all my questions and more.

Two thoughts turned out to be unexpected discoveries: that a person can not make a career in every company, it is important that one's own values coincide with the values of the company, and that the atmosphere in the company is determined by the management. Returning to the first appointment, I now understand why I did not want to go to work.

Now I have a second chance to grow as a leader. Now I'm savvy thanks to the course. I constantly ask the question whether actions, mine or colleagues, are committed in the interests of the company or not. Sometimes I see how employees leave things halfway, which entails a lot of difficulties in the form of showdowns with contractors, explanations before government agencies or financial losses. Now I have a tool how to make me finish it to the end, so that at least the money doesn’t fly by.

Even at the moment, for me, valuable information about the qualities of a leader: quietly, calmly, quickly. You need to learn not to react so emotionally to people's behavior sometimes.

You work hard, achieve the required indicators, you are satisfied with the management, but for some reason you are not promoted? Do not rush to give up, get upset and start looking new job. Try to understand why you are not being promoted. There are reasons that hinder the promotion of even the best employees.

1. You don't ask for a raise.

One of the common reasons why employees don't get promotions or promotions is that they simply don't ask for it. Talking to management like this scares a lot of people, and ultimately the fear of rejection or any other negative reaction is what kills any intention of talking about a promotion. Also, some employees are afraid in this way to appear too ambitious, greedy and inadequate.

Don't rely on a good boss. Actually, don't rely on anyone. If you want to move on career ladder- talk about it.

In fact, there is nothing wrong with asking for a raise (of course, if there is something to raise you for). Moreover, it must be done. Why? Firstly, they almost never increase “automatically” for length of service. Secondly, if you do not stutter that something does not suit you and you want more, it may seem to the boss that everything is fine and there is no need to worry about your position in the company. And, thirdly, no matter how insulting it may sound, it is unprofitable for your management to promote you. Especially if you are a good responsible performer. After all, if you are promoted, then who will do everything instead of you? And looking for a new person is an extra headache.

Therefore, we repeat: everything is in your hands. Don't rely on a good boss. Actually, don't rely on anyone. If you want to move up the career ladder, talk about it.

2. You are asking incorrectly.

It often happens that an employee decides to have an “uncomfortable” conversation with the boss, but in the end the conversation ended in nothing, even if the company has the opportunity to promote a person. Why? Unfortunately, many people come to talk about promotion completely unprepared. For example, they cannot reasonably explain why they deserve to be promoted. If you just come to the boss and say what you want more money and higher position, he is unlikely to take you seriously. Moreover, you run the risk of spoiling the impression of yourself and appearing too self-confident.

Many people come in to talk about promotions completely unprepared. As a result, they are not taken seriously.

To talk about a promotion, be sure to prepare in order to sound convincing. Make a list of your achievements over the past year, collect the necessary data on the situation in the labor market (it is quite possible that your salary is already much lower than the market one) - you must operate only with supporting facts. And the more of them there are, the more freely you operate with them, the better for you.

3. You offer nothing

The fact that you did and continue to do your job well is very commendable, but not enough for a promotion. You are paid precisely for the fact that you work well, and for management this is more of a norm and a given than a reason for promotion.

Excellent performance of one's duties - for management, this is rather a norm and a given than a good reason for promotion.

To be promoted, you need to be not just a good employee, but an excellent and exceptional employee. Are you ready to expand (or maybe you are already expanding) your area of responsibility, to take on new tasks? Are you active in discussions, constantly suggesting new ideas, helping colleagues, etc.? Are you exceeding management expectations by doing more? Don't be discouraged if you don't have proof of your own distinctiveness yet. Work on yourself, take a proactive position, do not wait for external circumstances - then the boss will understand why you should pay more.

4. You are an “invisible” employee

Do you consider yourself a good employee? Probably yes. How often do you report your achievements? Are you sure that the boss is really aware of your progress? Many employees mistakenly think that managers see everything, including who works and how. But, as a rule, the bosses see only the final picture, they may not notice the rest at all and may not even know about it. Remember: it is unlikely that someone will praise and highlight you very much, except for yourself. At work, you need to not only work, but also actively engage in your own PR. It is important not only to do, but also to talk about what you are doing.

At work, you need to not only work, but also actively engage in personal PR. Accustom yourself to constantly be in the public eye and report your achievements to management.

If you want to become visible, train yourself to be constantly visible and report your achievements to management. For example, ask your boss to send you reports about your work, such as once a week or a month. This is beneficial to everyone. For you, this is a great opportunity to show that you are - valuable employee, plus - if necessary, it will be much easier for you to collect and present your achievements. As for your boss, thanks to this approach, he will always be up to date with current events and results, and he will not have to ask you himself how the work is going.

One more moment. To become noticeable, it is important to properly build your communication with colleagues. Ask for feedback ask for advice and help yourself if needed. Also teach them that you are a source of useful professional information. Become an expert in your field so everyone knows who to turn to for advice. Have you read a book, attended a conference, attended a webinar, or stumbled upon an interesting article? Don't be lazy - make a short summary and send it to everyone, drop a link, etc.

5. You are not adding value.

As we have already said, the employer must understand why you should offer a higher position or start paying more. Therefore, strive to constantly increase your value by expanding your skill set.

If you complain a lot, whine and criticize others, then your affairs are bad. You will automatically be considered an unpleasant person.

Attend specialized courses, programs, master classes. You can also start a professional blog, start speaking at specialized events. This will not only increase your value, but also make you more visible. Plus, you can also talk about all this when you ask for a raise.

6. You complain and criticize a lot.

No matter how great, exceptional and super professional you are, if you complain a lot, whine and criticize others, then you are in a bad way. You will automatically be considered an unpleasant person. And companies promote those who can improve the work and atmosphere in the team, but not vice versa. So if you are too often indignant, and your facial expression constantly expresses displeasure - urgently correct it.

Have you ever asked for a raise?

At first glance, this may seem strange: what kind of specialist would voluntarily refuse career advancement? But in practice, there are quite enough reasons not to accept a promotion. What to do if you're not ready for a promotion?

Why do you want to turn down a promotion?

As you know, any specialist can develop in two conditional directions - they can be designated as career growth and professional growth. The first way of development is hierarchical. Theoretically, it starts in the position of an intern, and the final point is the CEO of the company. That is, managerial and leadership inclinations of a person are put at the forefront. The second option is the development of those skills and qualities that are necessary in the process of work, and not in personnel management. Such specialists are interested in working on themselves, engaging in professional self-improvement, and they are not particularly concerned about the hypothetical achievement of the position of CEO. Becoming a unique specialist in your field is also a very bright and tempting prospect.

Naturally, if you are an adherent of the first path of development, then the issue of refusing a promotion is not relevant for you.

Let's talk about representatives of the second way of development. Imagine that you feel great and comfortable in your position, you are completely satisfied with the functionality, the rhythm of work and the level of responsibility. And now from the top management comes a proposal for a raise. I don’t want to change my position, because it suits me, but at the same time it’s unpleasant not to live up to the expectations of the leadership.

Or some other option. Of course, you are very happy in your position, but you will not refuse the new tasks that the promotion will bring. But here's the problem - you are not yet confident in your capabilities, it seems to you that you are not yet ready to take on additional responsibility and expand your professional comfort zone. How to be?

"There are two options for promotion. The promotion may involve managing people, and the specialist is not ready to take on exactly managerial functions(not ready to be responsible for subordinates, does not know how to delegate authority, etc.). The second option involves the expansion of powers, an increase in the volume and content of duties and tasks.

In any case, additional competencies are required. If a specialist understands that he lacks certain knowledge and skills, then it is necessary to discuss this with the management. worth suggesting possible options: undergo training, organize a gradual entry into a new position (if the situation in the company allows, then make the addition of new powers or functions progressive), take an intermediate position (for example, work not immediately as a leader / boss, but try yourself as a deputy acting with the possibility, in case of failure to complete tasks, to return to the current position). A variant is possible with the implementation of new tasks in the least risky option for the company - to take in a new capacity and in full the least significant tasks for business, so to speak, "to practice on cats." And with a successful set of circumstances, discuss the possibility of a full-fledged promotion," says Anna Raimdzhanova, a leading consultant at the Vizavi Consult recruiting agency.

"If a proposal for career growth involves doing what you love, then you should not refuse, even if the specialist does not feel ready. At the same time, you will need to spend time thinking about those competencies that will have to be increased in connection with the increase. Of course, the leader must also be ready for this. If the proposed increase leads to the fact that you have to give up the business that brings joy and satisfaction, then you should refuse such an offer and not regret it," advises Tatyana Iliopulo, Deputy Director for Personnel and Organizational Development at Novard Group of Companies.

If a decision is made to reject

You have analyzed all the pros and cons, weighed the arguments and made a decision to refuse the increase (at least for now). How to properly convey this decision to management so as not to lose trust and disposition?

As in all other matters, here best policy there will be honesty.

“The main thing in such a situation for an employee is to be as honest and sincere as possible. If he feels unprepared for the next career step, then it’s better not to take a rash step - because you may not be able to cope with the new amount of work. And correcting mistakes is much harder than preventing them.

Whether family circumstances, acceleration of the work rhythm, an increase in undesirable administrative functionality - there can be many reasons for refusing a new position. And the employee needs to try as consistently and clearly as possible to explain to the immediate supervisor the reasons for refusing to instantly accept the promotion.

Another option for responding to a proposal for a raise is to ask to take a break, for example, for 3 months to return to the conversation, since this is the time the employee needs to make a positive decision," the head of the industry and construction department suggests the possibility of resolving the issue. recruiting agency Penny Lane Personnel Olga Stepanova.

"Rejection of a promotion always carries risks, since later a higher position may be filled by another specialist who will be successful in it. long time, or the management may regard the refusal as a lack of self-confidence. If a specialist has the motivation to move to the next step, but there is an understanding of the lack of competencies in this moment, then it is necessary to discuss with the management a delayed increase in time and make every effort to "grow" these competencies in oneself. For example, go to study, get involved in projects in which you can acquire the necessary skills. If the employee is not interested in promotion, then he needs to clearly and reasonably state his position, showing his value in the capacity in which he now works in the company," Anna Raimdzhanova adds.

The era of cheaper loans in Russia seems to be over. 2018 will be remembered for record low rates for consumer loans, but banks began to increase the cost of their products. Sberbank is among those who went on the increase: now it lends money to many Russians at least at 13.9% per annum. Some market players have already followed suit. Should we expect a massive increase in lending rates? Is it still possible to borrow at a lower interest rate? Grigory Kolganov understood.

A month ago, it was clear: since the Central Bank raised the key rate, the rise in price of loans is only a matter of time. And so the key market player, Sberbank, went on the increase. The minimum interest on consumer loans has increased there by two points, to almost 14% per annum. Other financial institutions are also not left out. Rates moved from place to place in Citibank, Home Credit and Renaissance Credit. But even Sberbank, whose share in the retail lending market exceeds 40%, is enough to understand that loans are becoming more expensive. However, you can still jump on the bandwagon of the outgoing train. For example, as Olga Ocheretina, PR director of Pochta Bank, told Kommersant FM, rates in this organization remain the same. But everything can change. “In the short term, Post Bank does not plan to raise rates. At the same time, there is some tendency on the market to increase the cost of deposits. And if the trend is fixed as a market trend, we will consider options for optimizing rates in loans,” Ocheretina said.

They do not plan to raise lending rates in Alfa-Bank either - so far - this is now the key word. Factors that can spur the cost of loans, more than enough, said the first deputy chairman of the board of directors of Alfa-Bank Oleg Sysuev: “If next round sanctions, this could seriously affect Russian market. To a large extent, the price of energy carriers, external conjuncture will determine, and in many respects, as we usually last years will be influenced by political conditions. Representatives of the real banking business, unfortunately, cannot influence or predict this in any way.”

On the other hand, loans in Russia were not really cheap, except perhaps getting cheaper. With a record low inflation of 4%, the population borrowed at 12%. But in fact, it’s even more expensive, because the minimum rates are available to very few, recalled Alexei Kazarin, CEO of the Loan Specialist System consulting group: “If we are talking about programs for clients from the street, probably interest rates are from 14% to 18% per annum, plus, insurance. Somewhere insurance is very expensive, it can even be 10% of the amount of loans. If you refuse insurance, interest rates rise by an average of 3-4 percentage points.”

Now the key rate of the Central Bank is 7.5% percent, and banks lend to the population at least twice as much. Why such an impressive margin against the backdrop of falling solvency? It turns out that the borrowers themselves are to blame. Firstly, they do not return money well, and financial companies are forced to mortgage these risks. And secondly, they willingly agree to such rates, said Stanislav Volkov, head of the validation department of the Expert RA rating agency: “The level of risks that the bank takes on and the level of demand that exists now for this product are important here.

That is, if enough a large number of people are ready to be taken at 14%, then the rate will be the same, it makes no sense for the bank to lower it lower.

It makes sense to lower it only if the bank wants to increase its loan portfolio.”

Analysts agree that a massive increase in lending rates is inevitable in the near future. Probably, it will happen more than once, because according to the most optimistic forecasts from the Ministry of Economic Development, inflation next year can jump up to 5.5%. So for those who were going to make repairs or buy a TV on credit, now is the time to visit the bank.

According to analysts, the volume of consumer loans this year is approaching 13 trillion rubles. About 6.5% of this amount is overdue debt. The average loan size of one Russian is 87 thousand rubles.

I'm afraid of a promotion at work, extra responsibility, just in a panic. I doubt myself. I try to increase self-esteem, but it's not so easy. How to get rid of it? And is it necessary to go to a managerial job if you don’t want to?

Leadership is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, this is a big responsibility and you need to be prepared in case of force majeure to be able to do the job for your subordinates (or find a person who will help or do it). On the other hand, it is freedom. And very often you can not do what you seem to be supposed to do, but quietly shift it to subordinates (within reason, of course). You can choose a team for yourself, people who will work as you need it, and you can remove those that are inconvenient or unnecessary for you. And this is definitely a step forward in your development. Ten years ago, I also doubted myself very much, but still decided to try. It's never too late to leave if you can't do it. But regretting unused resources is a shame .......

On the one hand, I’m also afraid - because there’s real trash and brainwashing (at my work :)), and on the other hand, it’s almost not interesting at all in my position - there is practically no development, and you can learn so much and learn so much. So I’m worried, I’m offended that they don’t promote it, but I don’t go myself and don’t declare that I want to - and suddenly I can’t manage it - but of course I can handle it. I'm just afraid ... You probably have it too - and you want it and it pricks. Although ... in the last phrase you write that you don’t want to? or do you still want to? :) I am for doing what you want. In general, if you are not ready yet - do not climb on the rampage yourself and do not stick your head out, but they will offer it - so gather your courage and go ahead - they offer, then they believe. Good luck building your self esteem!

There are those who are born to be leaders. And there are ideal subordinates. I think if you understand the problem, dig deeper, you will understand that you are not one of those who need power to assert themselves. Perhaps you see yourself in a completely different business, and work is just a means for financial support. I think if they offer a promotion, you don’t need to immediately refuse, think first. And if they don’t offer it, don’t fuss to no purpose, nothing has happened yet and you shouldn’t be nervous in vain. In general, let those who really need it build a career, and you remain a good, exemplary employee who may have a lot of hobbies and goals besides work;)
    Good luck to you!

Yeah, but aren't you afraid of the tyrant boss? It’s better to lead yourself than to be subordinate to narrow-minded careerists.

The key difference is: I’m afraid or I don’t want to. If you really don’t want to, then you don’t need to. And if you are afraid, then God himself ordered to overcome your fear.

There is special literature, you need to go, because the body feels it, if you can’t, change jobs, it’s just hardly worth paying attention to the little things!

In my opinion, it is not necessary yet, if you do not want to, and if you are not sure that you will cope with the work, the team. In the case of a conversation with your management on this topic, ask for a little delay with the promotion, express your doubts, concerns, ask for time to gain experience.

Now it is difficult (in winter) to offer anything, in Ancient Italy for this in sala-
you added a little clover, as a child in Tajikistan, I myself plucked this grass a little, maybe you will find something in pharmaceuticals!

And what is your name? Of course, if you don't want to, then don't go. But for the first time I hear that an employee is promoted to a managerial position, but he does not want ... Strange.

Bake bread. Although you need to try, your potential as a boss will suddenly be revealed. If you don't like it, you'll bake bread again. And self-esteem has nothing to do with it, you need to be able to lead people. You need to know the psychology of people. So that it does not happen that they will lead you.

You see the question that one of the users of the site asked the Universe, and the answers to it.

Either people who are very similar to you, or your complete opposites, answer.
Our project was conceived as a way of psychological development and growth, where you can ask for advice from "similar" and learn from "very different" what you do not know or have not tried.

Do you want to ask the Universe about something important to you?
