Holy Martha, Miraculous! Saint Martha icon and prayer.

Believers often turn to saints and ascetics in order to strengthen their righteous living, get support or even gain some banal improvement:

  • be cured;
  • get rid of passions;
  • mend relationships.

The great ascetics of bygone times are especially popular, but even today Orthodoxy knows a considerable number of saints who glorified the Lord with their miracles and helped many people. Such modern ascetics include, for example, the notorious John of Kronstadt, as well as the icon of St. Martha and the prayer, which is revered as miraculous.

At the same time, many believers have incomplete information and therefore may be slightly mistaken in their religious practices. Veneration of Saint Martha and her miraculous icon is a typical example. Therefore, you should understand everything in order.

History of Saint Martha

That's right, in fact, the Orthodox ascetic, who was born in the second half of the 19th century in Volgograd, is called Martha, and Martha is the Catholic pronunciation of the name. Secondly, no one knows the original name (and last name).

The world learned about this girl precisely thanks to her ascetic feat, which began with a trip to St. Petersburg. It was not in vain that we mentioned St. John of Kronstadt at the beginning, because it was thanks to him that the girl became an ascetic. Once in St. Petersburg, she saw an Orthodox elder and he predicted her life in Christ and to his glory.

So, in fact, it happened. Returning to her native Volgograd, Martha meets the family's rejection of her passion for Christianity, but does not give in to worldly comfort and leaves home. Having settled in a small shed, he prays regularly, and then takes upon himself the feat of foolishness for Christ's sake. Over time, various miracles begin to appear, and many in the house even have an icon on the iconostasis, which, according to believers, fulfills wishes, of course with the image of Martha.

Only the ascetic herself opposed such veneration in every possible way and did not especially welcome the veneration of her icons. Moreover, until now she has not been officially recognized as a saint, that is, for church people the phrase Saint Martha in the strict sense is not permissible, as well as the veneration of icons. Nevertheless, prayers are possible, and icons, by the grace of the Lord, bring good to people, because, in fact, being canonized as a saint in this situation is nothing more than a formality.

During her relatively short earthly journey (1880-1925), Martha won veneration from a significant number of believers. Even the wife of Emperor Nicholas II came to her for advice and help.

If we touch on the meaning of the icon of St. Martha, then she invisibly helps believers to this day. A huge stream of pilgrims regularly flock to the grave in Volgograd, many of whom take some land for themselves in order to heal, and the workers of the Central Cemetery of Volgograd carefully pour sand back into it. The icon of St. Martha the miraculous is available for worship, located at the Dmitrovsky cemetery of the city.

Miracles of Saint Martha

Throughout her ascetic journey, Saint Martha prayed for the good of all mankind. She loved people and sought to bring good to everyone and everyone.

It was thanks to this and the help of the Lord that people who even just spoke to her got rid of passions or were cured of serious illnesses.

For example, the following fact about Martha's foolishness is known: she often walked along the streets of her city and threw small stones at people. The pockets of the ascetic were full of them, people, in turn, did not understand the behavior of the holy fool, and some, of course, reacted angrily to such behavior. Only then did many begin to notice - if the pebble landed where it hurts, healing would come, so they understood miraculous power this foolishness.

As well as many other saints, Martha predicted her own departure from the mortal world and even more. In addition to prophecies about Russia, they predicted a three-fold reburial of their own remains, in the end it happened just like that. At first, she was buried in the monastery of the Holy Spirit, which later became a prison, and the remains were transferred to the Alekseevskaya Church, and from there to the central cemetery of the city, where the saint still rests.

A short prayer to the icon of St. Martha

Blessed Martha Tsaritsynskaya, pray to God for us!

Blessed Martha Tsaritsynskaya was born in 1880 in the city of Tsaritsyn (now Volgograd). Neither her baptismal name nor the family's surname are known - Martha's story begins with her visit to the city of St. Petersburg, where the holy elder John of Kronstadt predicted her future - to preach to people about Christ.

After some time, the inhabitants of the city began to notice the miraculous changes taking place in people, their state of health, financial situation, family relationships.

When she returned to Tsaritsyn, and told her parents about the meeting with the saint, her father did not appreciate the desire for Divine preaching, he strongly scolded her, trying to return her to a “normal” life. Martha left her parents' house and settled right there in the shed.

After some time, the inhabitants of the city began to notice the miraculous changes taking place in people, their state of health, financial situation, family relationships, after talking with a young modest girl. Prodigal husbands returned to their families, the sick were healed, peace, happiness and prosperity reigned in families. Saint Martha quickly became famous, and people were drawn to her from all over the empire.

The Great Empress Empress Alexandra Feodorovna herself, wife of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, came to visit her.

Saint Martha predicted the collapse of Russia and the death of the Romanov dynasty in detail.

Martha took upon herself the feat of foolishness - voluntary madness. So, she often appeared on the street with simple hair, unkempt, behaved defiantly - for example, she threw small stones at people, which she carried in her pockets in many clothes. People did not understand the meaning of her actions, many were angry and offended by her - until one day they noticed that sore spot, into which the pebble of the blessed one fell, calmed down and healed.

Matushka quietly and peacefully ended her earthly journey at the age of forty-five, having predicted before that: "I will be buried three times." And so it happened - the first funeral was in the monastery of the Holy Spirit, then (after the Bolshevik terror that had spilled over the country collapsed on the heads of its opponents and allies) a prison was set up in the monastery - and the body of St. Martha was transferred to the Alekseevsky Church, and then - buried at the Central Cemetery of the city of Stalingrad.

Now many hundreds of pilgrims come to the cemetery with prayer and hope. They say that you need to bring a flour product with you - a cracker, a bun, bread, and put it on the grave. After the prayer, you can pick up the bun and eat it yourself, or you can give it to someone, or even leave it on the grave.

Do not make of this pious tradition a cult and witch madness. Although all the fairy tales about necrotic energy in this case do not work - believers who resort to the help of Blessed Martha take the earth from her grave and use it to heal from diseases. The cemetery employees even have to pour fresh sand on the grave of blessed Martha - so great is the flow of pilgrims who take with them a piece of grace.

Day of Remembrance

Miracles continued after the death of the blessed one - thousands of people came and come to her grave. It is wrong to call Marta a saint, as many do - now only materials are being collected that will glorify the great ascetic in the face of saints.

You need at least ten medical certificates confirming cases of miraculous healing through prayer to one or another saint of God. Everyone who turned to Blessed Martha with a request and received what they wanted can help in the cause of her glorification as a saint - recorded testimonies and any evidence of the help of the blessed one can be provided to the rector of the church of the Central Cemetery of Volgograd, who is now in charge of providing materials on glorification.

The saint's memorial day has not been set - this will be done after she can be canonized, but people can come to the grave at any time - mother always accepts and helps. Most likely, the day of Martha's memory will be called the day of her blessed death - for we do not know the day of her birth.

Often, the memory of Blessed Martha is speculated as a universal means for the fulfillment of desires.

But this is a wrong attitude, it offends the memory of the blessed one. Indeed, Martha helps both the barren and the unfortunate in family life, and the sick, and everyone who turns to her for help.

This does not mean at all that the mechanical reading of a prayer can fulfill your desire. Ask the blessed one for help sincerely - and you will receive what you need. Honor the memory of the blessed mother, visit her grave, serve a memorial service. Help in worship - leave your story of Martha's miraculous help.

Holy icon in honor of mother: is there or will it be?

Even during her lifetime, the people revered Blessed Martha as a saint - people put her portraits on the house icons, but Mother Martha similar practices did not support, did not allow to make a saint out of herself. Portraits of Blessed Martha, painted according to the memoirs of contemporaries, have been preserved;

A reliquary for holy relics is also ready - after the Orthodox Church recognizes Blessed Martha as a saint, her remains will be removed from the earth and placed for worship in the temple.

Prayer to Saint Martha for the fulfillment of a wish

Sometimes it happens that people really want something and in order to achieve what they want, they are ready to do anything: make a deal with their conscience, deceive and cunning, abandon their family and neglect their feelings.

So, some are trying and making every effort to achieve, while others are just waiting for a miracle. Some achieve their result, but others can fight and do their best, but in the end they get nothing. So in such cases, it is recommended to turn to Saint Martha with a prayer for the fulfillment of a wish.

Who is Saint Martha

There is a large number of saints who can help in achieving results, but most often Saint Martha is singled out among them.

Orthodox scriptures say that she lived at the same time as Christ. She knew him personally. believed in him divine power before his resurrection. Often in Orthodoxy, she is most often found as Saint Martha.

She is said to have been one of the sisters. Martha and Maria were not alike. They were called complete opposite. Marta constantly busied herself with housework, tried to provide the guests with the best and often stomped in various household chores. At the same time, her sister constantly went to Christ's sermons, forgetting about household chores. Her worldview was based on the fact that household chores were petty and mortal before divine providence.

One day Martha decided to express her indignation about this to her sister in front of a guest. To such words, the Lord said that Mary was more concerned about the salvation of her soul, and did not fuss about many things.

The next memory of her was an episode with her brother Lazarus. One day Christ was far away from Bethany. At that time, Lazarus became very ill and Jesus did not have time to arrive in order to heal him. The patient died. The sisters had already begun to mourn him. But as soon as Christ returned, he resurrected the dead.

Often Martha is also called one of the myrrh-bearing women. She is considered the patroness of: cooks, servants, waiters, as well as the entire household.

They read the prayer of St. Martha and ask for help in:

  • healing,
  • Enlightenment
  • A speedy and successful marriage,
  • The onset of a desired and long-awaited pregnancy,
  • Household guardian,
  • Fulfillment of desires
  • Solving money issues
  • division of property,
  • Looking for work.

How to read the prayer of Saint Martha

If you want to ask the Saint for something, then for this it is not necessary to go to a church or any temple. It is recommended to have at least the face of a saint. There are a large number of texts of prayers to St. Martha.

You can read not church texts, but ask in your own words. They will certainly be heard if they do not carry malicious intent and come from a pure heart. If you want her to help fulfill your desire, then you need to complete a certain cycle of prayers for her. Your desire should be clearly formulated and it will be better if it is written by you personally.

So, for the ritual, it is necessary to remain in new clothes (women - a nightgown, men - pajamas). While pronouncing the words, you must clearly visualize the fulfillment of your desire. And then say the following prayer words:

“Oh Holy Martha, You are Miraculous!

I turn to you for help!

And completely in my needs, and you will be my helper

in my trials!

I promise you with gratitude

that I will spread this prayer everywhere!

I humbly, tearfully ask -

console me in my worries and hardships!

Submissively, for the sake of great joy,

that filled your heart

I tearfully ask you - take care of me and my family,

so that we keep our God in our hearts

and by that they deserved the Saved Most High Intermediary,

First of all, with the care that now burdens me ....

help me meet my lover and create happy family; etc.)…

... Tearfully I ask you, Helper in every need,

conquer hardships as you conquered the snake,

until I lay at your feet!”

“Our Father, who art in heaven! Yes, shine your name; let your kingdom come; Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth; give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one; for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

“Virgin Mother of God, rejoice!

Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you!

Blessed are You in Wives and Blessed

fruit of thy womb,

like the Savior gave birth to our souls!

During the ritual, a candle should burn on the right side of the table. It will be good if it is church. She must burn to the end. You need to read the words 9 Tuesdays in a row. If the desire was fulfilled earlier, then still bring it to the end. If you missed Tuesday, then start all over again.

It is advisable to take a bath or shower before the ritual. And also to be alone in the room and retire in your thoughts. In addition, it is not recommended to print texts. It is better to copy them by hand. And it is also desirable to write a desire with your own hand, so that it sounds the same every time.

But the most important thing is sincere faith in the Lord and positive result conceived. And then everything will come true!

PRAYER TO HOLY MARF!

I know very well that the girls have already posted this prayer on the site many times, BUT in the prayer there is a promise to spread it, therefore I am writing it for this.

I have already read it 7 times, there are two more and just now I decided to write! I really want to believe that it will help.

– Prayer is very powerful; Fulfills all desires (if it is pleasing to Heaven, it means that you will not harm anyone with your desires voluntarily or involuntarily); desires are often granted before the end of the reading cycle.

The time of day, morning or evening, doesn't matter. If the candle is church, let it burn out to the end; if otherwise, let it burn for 15-20 minutes, and then you can put it out (do not blow it out!). It is better if the candle is lubricated with bergamot oil (palm, from bottom to top, from the base of the candle to the wick). And it’s also better if there are fresh flowers nearby! But bergamot and flowers are not necessary, but very desirable!

- It is better to write down the desire on paper so that it always sounds the same when reading the entire text of the prayer. One cycle, one wish.

- Prayer cannot be printed and read; you need to copy all the texts by hand and already use them! The text you have rewritten cannot be transferred to others - each person must rewrite the text of the prayers with his own hand (you can dictate to him or simply give your or this printed text for rewriting).

“Oh Holy Martha, You are Miraculous!

(help me.. (your desire, can be in a few sentences))…

... Tearfully I ask you, Helper in every need, conquer hardships the way you defeated the snake, until you lay at your feet!

Our Father who art in heaven!

hallowed be thy name;

let your kingdom come;

may Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

give us our daily bread for every day;

and forgive us our sins,

for we also forgive every debtor to us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

It is necessary to read in a cycle - 9 Tuesdays in a row. If one of the Tuesdays is missed, start all over again. If the wish came true earlier, read it to the end of the cycle anyway (all 9 Tuesdays). Nearby (on the right) a candle should burn on the table. O blessed and holy women, who by faith and love followed Christ God and settled in the abode of the Heavenly Father! Now, as a sinner (name), I resort to you and humbly pray: teach me and help me walk before God in your ways without stumble and inherit eternal life with you. O righteous Martha, pleasing Christ with a firm confession of your faith, strengthen my weak faith. About the service to the Lord and the brethren, unfeigned and diligently diligent, help me and my service meekly and wholeheartedly go through. Your sister, who once existed in sorrow, called to Christ, recited to her: The teacher has come and calls thee. Now appear to me in a difficult hour of testing my faith and my love, and in the depths of my heart proclaim to me that the Lord Jesus is coming invisibly, and through trials draw me to Himself! Ask me, O holy mother, from our Lord strength and strength, but having risen soon, I will flow to Him, worship Him, and in His humble love I will find peace and the salvation of my soul. And you, O God-loving Mary, at the feet of Jesus found the only thing needed, pray to Him for the good part of those who are being saved and improve me sinners. Having brought the fragrant myrrh as a gift of thanksgiving to Christ the Life-giver, now implore Him and my soul to give: peace of prayer and repentance, tears, purity and good deeds, fragrance, as if the Lord would come to my heart renewed by all of these and create a abode for Himself. To you, O holy righteous wives, Martha and Mary, I fall down and humbly pray: do not leave me in the days of difficult trials, so that I will not be tempted by the perishable charms of this world, especially in the hour of bitter separation of my soul from the body, appear to me and implore our common Lord may he look upon me in the impoverishment of my strength with a merciful eye and, having forgiven all my sins, raise me to an endless life in the blessed abodes of the Heavenly Father. Amen.

I humbly, tearfully ask - comfort me in my worries and hardships! I humbly, for the sake of the great joy that filled your heart, I tearfully ask you to take care of me and my family, so that we keep our God in our hearts and thereby deserve the Saved Almighty Mediation, first of all with the care that is now burdening me ....

I tearfully ask you, Helper in every need, conquer hardships the way you defeated the snake, until you lay at your feet!

Our Father, who art in heaven!

Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come,

May Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth.

    Give us our daily bread today;

And leave us our debts, as we leave our debtors,

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,

Father and Son and Holy Spirit

And now, and forever, and forever and ever.

If the wish came true earlier - still read to the end of the cycle (all 9 Tuesdays).

Nearby (on the right) a candle should burn on the table. You can use any candle, but preferably a church, small one.

Time of day - morning or evening - it does not matter. If the candle is church, let it burn out to the end; if it’s different, let it burn for 15-20 minutes, and then you can put it out (do not blow it out!). It is better if the candle is lubricated with bergamot oil (palm, from bottom to top, from the base of the candle to the wick). And it’s also better if there are fresh flowers nearby! But bergamot and flowers are not necessary, but very desirable!

It is better to write down the desire on paper so that it always sounds the same when reading the entire text of the prayer. One cycle - one desire.

Prayer cannot be printed and read; you need to copy all the texts by hand and already use them! The text you have rewritten cannot be transferred to others - each person must rewrite the text of the prayers with his own hand (you can dictate to him or simply give your or this printed text for rewriting).

All about Saint Martha, who grants a wish

Friends, good afternoon. You must have "dropped in here" to find "a very powerful prayer to St. Martha." Indeed, the Internet is replete with detailed "recipes" for the fulfillment of desires, getting rid of any adversity, with prayers to St. Martha. Moreover, you can find sites where the authors "blinded together" as many as two different historical figures. So who is Saint Martha, who is who and what is this " strong prayer to St. Martha "- the topic of today's post.

    Which Martha "grants a wish"?

I want to start with the fact that in Orthodoxy the Catholic name Marta is read as Martha.

The Orthodox Church venerates the memory of saints with the name Martha:

    • February 19 - Martha of Asia, mts., virgin
    • March 16 - Martha (Kovrova), promts., novice / novomuch. /
    • April 18 - Martha of Bethany. [sister of Lazar the Four-day]. Moveable: on the Sunday of St. myrrh-bearing women
    • April 25 - Martha of Bethany. [sister of Lazar the Four Day]
    • April 26 - Martha (Testova), prmts. /novomuch./
    • June 17 - Martha of Bethany. [sister of Lazar the Four Day]
    • June 22 - Martha of Persia, mts.
    • July 17 - Martha of Antioch, Edessa
    • July 19 - Martha Persian, Roman, mts.
    • September 3 - Martha Diveevskaya (Milyukova), St.
    • September 14 - Martha of Cappadocia
    • November 21 - Martha of Pskov, St.

In addition, many Orthodox people honor the memory of Blessed Martha of Tsaritsyn. I’ll make a reservation right away that: “Blessed Martha Tsaritsynskaya has not yet been canonized, but now historical material is being collected for the canonization commission under the Patriarchate” (based on materials Volga newspaper "I Believe" (June 2002) article about Blessed Martha, prepared by Alla Chudinova).

It was Saint Martha of Bethany and Martha of Tsaritsyn that many bloggers combined into one historical figure, attributing to his recipe a mystical prayer of clearly non-Orthodox content.

So which one of them "fulfills" desires? Let's figure it out.

Since I do not have the goal of a detailed biography, I will limit myself to brief milestones in their lives.

    HOLY MARTHA (MARPHA) OF BETHANA

There is very little information about Saint Martha, but nevertheless the Lord glorified her name among the saints. Let's take a quick look at what we know about this saint.

Saint Martha of Bethany is the sister of Lazarus the Four Days (whom the Lord resurrected in front of many witnesses) and Mary (who loved to listen to the Lord, for which Martha once reproached her). Who cares about these two amazing stories I advise you to learn about this from the Gospel of Luke and John. It is from the story of Martha and her sister Mary that we learn that there are two kinds of service to the Lord.

A woman named Martha received Him into her house; she had a sister, named Mary, who sat down at the feet of Jesus and listened to His word. Martha, however, was anxious about a great treat, and, coming up, said: Lord! Or do you not need that my sister left me alone to serve? tell her to help me. Jesus answered her and said, Martha! Martha! you care and fuss about many things, but only one thing is needed; Mary chose the good part, which will not be taken away from her.

Saint Martha, however, like her sister, ardently believed in Jesus Christ even before the resurrection of Lazarus, and with honor brought this faith to the end of her days.

We also know that Saint Martha, together with her sister and brother, as well as Saints Maximinus, Martellus and Cydonius, went to preach Christ in Gaul, where she, 30 years later, died in a hermitage.

In Orthodoxy, Saint Martha is revered in the rank of myrrh-bearing women of the righteous saints.

    MARFA Tsaritsynskaya

Martha (there is an opinion that real name women Medvenskaya, although even the worldly name of a woman is not known for certain) was born in 1880 in Tsaritsyn (Volgograd).

The young girl, after graduating from the gymnasium, went to the city of Petersburg, to meet with John of Kronstadt and received a blessing from him.

Father John foresaw that the girl was destined to serve the Lord and blessed her on the difficult path of foolishness for Christ's sake. The future saint ordered her to call herself Martha and give up everything earthly "so that she would walk and remind people of God."

At the end of 1908, after the death of John, Martha returned to Tsaritsyn, where at first she settled in a barn in the courtyard of her parents' house, and then began to spend the night right on the street, in the open air.

According to the townspeople, Martha visited only pious families, preferring the families of simple workers. Like Saint Xenia of Petersburg, they tried to invite Marfa to their home. People began to notice that after her visit, peace reigns in the family, the sick recover, prosperity appears. With spiritual advice, purity of heart and miracles of healing, Martha won the love of the townspeople. People who came to her for several days waited for the reception of mother.

In addition to the miracle of healing, God gave Martha the gift of foresight. She predicted: Russo-Japanese War, the first world, revolution, regicide, the Great Patriotic War.

visiting wealthy families, Martha urged to donate their money for the construction of temples and churches. At her prayers and at her call, the townspeople who revered mother found the means and strength to complete the construction of the Holy Spirit Monastery, and even as a sign of respect they laid out a small cell, especially for Martha.

Grigory Rasputin, arriving in the city of Tsaritsyn, tried to visit Marfa, meeting her with the words: “Hello, bride of Christ!”.

Martha died at the age of 45. They buried her in the Holy Spirit Monastery. come true prophetic words Martha that they will bury her 3 times. And indeed, after in the holy monastery Soviet authorities they arranged a prison for kulaks, Martha's grave was transferred to the Alekseevskaya Church, and after the church was closed, the grave was transferred to the Central Cemetery. And Martha’s words came true that suffering people would come to her grave for help, and she would listen to and help everyone who came.

As I wrote above, materials are currently being collected for the glorification of Blessed Martha.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT "PRAYER FOR HOLY MARCH FOR THE FULFILLMENT OF WISHES"

Now that you have learned about the earthly lives of both Martha (March), it's time to talk about the amazing “prayer with recipes for the fulfillment of desires,” which I spoke about at the beginning of the post.

As you probably already understood, this is not a prayer, but clean water CONSPIRACY. Moreover, a conspiracy that slightly resembles a Catholic prayer to St. Martha of Bethany. Of course, no saint responds to a text of dubious content. Yes, the saints help us, they pray to God for us and miracles happen through their prayers, but this does not mean at all that, for example, Saint Martha grants wishes, and Saint Spyridon of Myra helps to get rich.

SEE WHAT BATYUSHKA SAYS ABOUT THIS

SO WHAT, THERE IS NO STRONG PRAYER?

Of course there is. And let me repeat myself, but: “The most powerful prayer is the one that comes from the depths of the heart, the one that is backed up by the strongest power of love and a disinterested, sincere desire to help another.” The saints help us not because of a combination of certain words spoken to them, but help us by looking at our hearts and aspirations, for our good and according to the Will of the Lord.

If you understood me correctly, then believe and pray with all the strength of your soul to Saint Martha. And this prayer will be truly "strong".

PRAYER TO SAINT MARF AND MARY

O holy and all-praise disciples of Christ, God-loving Martha and Mary! Beg your beloved and you who loved the Sweetest Jesus, Him you confessed, Christ, the Son of God, may he give us, sinners, remission of sins, in the faith of the right unfeigned and firm standing.

Instill in our hearts the spirit of the fear of God, humble hope in God, patience and mercy towards our neighbors. Deliver us with your prayers from the temptations of life, troubles and misfortunes, yes, a quiet and peaceful life lived here, with immaculate thoughts and a pure heart, with boldness of faith and hope, we will stand at that Last Judgment and, having given a good answer to it, eternal joys in the Kingdom Let's be heavenly.

Amen. That's all. God bless everyone.

Catholic prayer to St. Martha in Orthodox lips

The images of the holy sisters Martha and Mary, vividly presented in the Gospels of Luke (Luke 10:38-42) and John (John 11:3-44), are close to the heart of every Christian. They are revered both in Orthodoxy and among Catholics, but in the Roman Church the first of them is called Martha. Thus, the Prayer of St. Martha for the fulfillment of desires, the text of which is given below in the article, which is so popular today among the Orthodox (especially among women), is a direct borrowing from their prayer books.

Savior in the house of pious sisters

What is the reason that the prayer of St. Martha found such fertile ground in Orthodox Russia? To understand this, let's open first of all the 10th chapter of the Gospel of Luke and it will tell us about how two sisters who lived in Bethany - Martha (Martha) and Mary, received Jesus Christ in their house.

The Evangelist narrates that, having entered their house, the Savior, as usual, barely taking a breath after a hard journey, began to preach the Word of God. Hearing His words, Mary, sinking at His feet, listened to the Lord with deep reverence, while her sister, meanwhile, was completely absorbed in the household, wanting to treat the stranger in a worthy manner, and even asked the Lord to send Mary to help her.

In response to this, Jesus, in seemingly simple words, uttered a great truth - the spiritual food with which He saturates all those who listen to Him is incomparably more important for a person than what he eats at a meal, and Mary chose with her heart precisely “the good part ".

    The Greatest Christian Virtue

What is the merit of the sisters, which opened the way for them to the crowns of holiness, because in this episode their role is rather passive? This is not true. By their attitude towards the Lord, they testified to the greatest virtue that filled their hearts - faith. They believed in Christ even before the torments on the cross and the resurrection that followed.

Just as unbelief is the gravest mortal sin, so the Lord calls faith in Him the highest virtue of a Christian. This is also evidenced by the fact that in His first - most important commandment He proclaims: "I am the Lord your God ...". It is the Lord that Martha calls Him. That is why the prayer of St. Martha (Martha) is full of such grace-filled power.

Believe, and you will find the Kingdom of Heaven!

Evidence of boundless faith in the Lord is the following episode, given in the 11th chapter of the Gospel of John. Here Martha and Mary turn to Jesus on the day when they suffered the greatest grief - the death of their beloved brother Lazarus. Meeting Jesus, Martha (Martha) uttered the words that opened the way for her to the Kingdom of God: "... I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you."

This short phrase is the backbone of all Christianity. Jesus is full boundless love and forgiveness. He is ready, condescending to human weakness, to let go of his unreasonable children their countless sins, demanding nothing in return except faith in His omnipotence. Believe, and the way to the palace of the Son of God will be opened to you.

That is why the prayer of St. Martha for the fulfillment of desire, like any other appeal to her, brings fertile fruits. The Orthodox Church teaches us that none of the saints who have acquired the crown of holiness are endowed with the gift to work miracles. But, being at the Throne of God, they intercede for us, and through our prayers to them, they cry out to the Almighty to send down what they ask.

    "Golden legend" from time immemorial

What do we know about Saint Martha (Martha), to whom so often in our days they turn in prayers. Unfortunately, very little. The fact is that among the numerous lives of saints inherited by the Russian Orthodox Church from his Greek sister, the life of St. Martha is missing. As a result, all we have is the materials that came to us from Western Europe. The prayer of St. Martha itself was also created there.

According to legend, the first life of the saint was compiled in Gaul (France) immediately after her death, and was written by a cell attendant named Marcilla. This manuscript was carefully preserved until the 5th century, and then, due to extreme dilapidation, was rewritten again. Traces of the priceless document can be traced up to the 9th century, and then hopelessly lost.

However, the Lord did not allow information about the life of St. Martha to disappear without a trace. A somewhat abridged text of this document has come down to us in the writings of the 13th-century Italian writer and theologian Jacob Voraginsky. His major work entitled "The Golden Legend" includes a story about the life of St. Martha. In the Middle Ages, it was very popular in Western Europe.

    Holy Exiles

According to Jacob Voraginsky, who, in turn, refers to the records of the cell attendant Marcilla mentioned above, Saint Martha (Martha) came from a royal family. Her father, named Sirus, once ruled Syria and a number of coastal regions. Neither Martha nor her maternal sister Maria were ever married, and kept their purity and virginity to serve God.

Immediately after the Ascension of Jesus, the persecution of Christians began. Soon the blood of the first martyr, Deacon Stefan, was also shed. These days, St. Martha with her sister Mary, the righteous Maximian and several other followers of Christ, a crowd of unbelievers threw into a fragile boat. Without sails, oars, and even without water, they were betrayed to the will of the waves.

But the evil will of the people was opposed by the greatest goodness of God. At this critical moment, with all persuasiveness, the Lord testified to His good will towards the holy virgin. The boat with the exiles did not die in the depths of the sea, but, guided by the Will of God, safely reached the shores of Gaul (France).

    holy maiden and monster

They set foot on the shore in the place where the city of Marseille is located today, but without stopping for a long time, they reached Aix, which has been preserved under the same name to this day. There, Saint Martha was prepared by God to perform her most famous deed, which served as the basis for the dragon to be often depicted on her icons later.

As Marcilla once recorded, in those years, a terrible monster named Tarascus was found in the Rhone River, lying in wait for travelers and devouring them. No matter how much they tried locals to defeat him - nothing worked, and the number of victims grew every day. But, it is known that the Will of God is capable of crushing what brute force retreats before.

No longer relying on weapons, the inhabitants prayed for help to Saint Martha, who tirelessly preached among them the teachings of Christ. The pious maiden, listening to them, sprinkled the monster with holy water, after which it immediately lost its strength and was destroyed.

The place where this event took place became known as Tarascon, and subsequently became widely known thanks to the popular novel by Alphonse Daudet and his hero Tartarin. Saint Martha herself remained there to live, and devout women began to gather to her, soon forming a community, from which a monastery was later formed. In it, the saint, tirelessly indulged in fasting and prayer, and there the Lord vouchsafed her to close her eyes forever.

Veneration of St. Martha (Martha) in Russia

In Russia, Saint Martha is known under the name of Martha. Prayer to her is very strong, since she was among the myrrh-bearing women who followed Christ during his wanderings, and after the crucifixion, who appeared in the early morning at the Tomb to anoint the body with incense. It is believed that she was also a witness to the Savior's suffering on the cross.

In Russia, the veneration of the holy sisters Martha and Mary goes back to the first centuries after the establishment of Christianity. Temples were erected in their honor and monasteries were founded. Widely known, for example, is the Moscow Marfo-Mariinsky Convent of Mercy, founded in 1909, then abolished, and revived today.

Given the role that she was assigned in the gospel scene of the reception of Christ in Bethany, in the host of saints Martha is given the place of the patroness of the household, as well as cooks, servants and waiters. However, this does not mean at all that the prayer to St. Martha for the fulfillment of a wish should concern only these aspects of life. The saint is ready to listen to any requests, as long as they do not go beyond the framework of Christian ethics.

Below is the text of the prayer itself, widely distributed today on the Internet. According to a number of Orthodox priests, it is a translation (and very mediocre) of one of the Catholic prayers, which, however, does not deprive it of grace when read with faith and sincerity. It is given in full, and without any changes.

Prayer of St. Martha in a modern presentation

Here is the text of this prayer:

“Oh Holy Martha, You are Miraculous! I turn to you for help! And completely in my needs, and you will be my helper in my trials! I promise you with gratitude that I will spread this prayer everywhere! I humbly, tearfully ask - comfort me in my worries and hardships! I humbly, for the sake of the great joy that filled your heart, I tearfully ask you to take care of me and my family so that we keep our God in our hearts, and thereby deserve the Saved Almighty Mediation, first of all with the care that now burdens me. (Further desire, for example, help me find a job, etc.) I tearfully ask you, an assistant in every need, conquer hardships the way you defeated the Serpent, until you lay at your feet!

Further, it is recommended to read “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice ...” and “Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit ...”. Of course, there is nothing to object to this, but, here is the categorical statement below that the prayer to St. Martha (Martha) must be said nine times, and only on Tuesdays, is puzzling.

    Questions to be answered

Excuse me, but only officials have a “reception on personal matters” once a week, and the saints are ready to listen to our prayers continuously, regardless of the day of the week, month and year. It is also not clear why nine times, and not eight or ten? And further, the promise to spread this prayer smacks of a certain sectarianism.

Older people will surely remember the money invested in them. mailboxes flyers of various homegrown religious brotherhoods. All of them contained dubious prayers, and ended with the requirement, after reading a certain number of times, to pass on to their acquaintances. Those who shied away were promised imminent and inevitable troubles. However, this is just a subjective opinion.

But what is undeniable is that the saint that was discussed in this article was a true disciple and follower of Jesus Christ, which earned herself eternal life and the right to intercede for our needs before the Throne of the Most High. Therefore, we will not follow the texts of foreign prayers, but pray to Saint Martha for the fulfillment of our desires in our own words, and in conclusion, with all sincerity and purity of heart, we will say: “Oh, holy Martha, God's servant, pray to God for us!”

Saint Martha will always reach out to you and your loved ones!

O Holy Martha, You are Miraculous!

... Tearfully I ask you, Helper in every need, conquer You hardships as You defeated the snake, until you lay at Your feet!

Thank you Saint Martha for your help!
