The next morning the saint, after a conversation with a hermit, received Holy Baptism. During thanksgiving prayer the girl overcame a dream, and in a new vision, the Mother of God with the young Christ appeared to her. The Divine Servant put a beautiful ring on Catherine's finger, declaring her his bride. Waking up, the girl found a ring of extraordinary beauty on her hand and decided to devote her life to serving the Almighty.

Living modestly and simply and professing Christianity, Saint Catherine grieved that many of her fellow citizens were in the darkness of paganism. And when Emperor Maximian arrived in Alexandria, she appeared at the festive sacrifice and began to call on the ruler to convert to the true faith.

The emperor tried to convince the beautiful and wise maiden by sending the most famous philosophers to her for conversations, but they all left Catherine defeated. Then Maximian tried to bribe the saint with rich gifts, but the girl was not seduced by earthly riches.

After having talked with Catherine, the wife of the emperor Augustus converted to Christianity, Maximian wanted to subject the saint to cruel torture. However, an angel descended from heaven crushed the terrible tools of the executioners.

By order of the angry ruler, Saint Catherine was beheaded, and instead of blood, milk flowed from her wound.

As a child, I was very fond of the film "The Three Musketeers" and often sang, like one of the heroines: "Saint Catherine, send me a nobleman ..." In 1579, in Kazan, burned by a monstrous fire, the nine-year-old girl Matrona (the daughter of an archer) appeared in a dream to the Mother of God herself, who indicated the place in the ashes where Her holy image rests underground. We know about the life of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia not only from the lives of the saints, but also from the miraculous “Tale of Peter and Fevronia of Murom”, written in the 16th century by the priest Yermolai the Sinful (who in monasticism bore the name Erasmus).

In the 13th century, the noble prince Pavel, wise and just, ruled in the city of Murom. But one day, trouble came to the prince's house - the unclean one began to tempt his wife, sending a snake to her. Having learned that Agrik's sword in the hands of Peter promises death to the adversary, the prince's younger brother Peter entered into battle with the monster and defeated him. However, before his death, the serpent managed to sprinkle Peter with his blood, from which the whole body of the young prince was stricken with a terrible disease - it was covered with ulcers and scabs, causing unspeakable suffering to Peter.

All the remedies that the doctors tried against this ailment turned out to be powerless. Trusting in the help of the Almighty, in his prayers, Peter humbly asked to show him the way to healing. And the Lord gave an answer to the prayers of the prince and sent him to the Ryazan land - not only to healing, but also to meet his fate.

In one of the villages, Peter's servant heard a rumor about a local girl, Fevronia, who had the gift of clairvoyance and healing. The Lord gave her the power to heal the prince, but through her mouth he spoke his will: after getting rid of the illness, Peter should take Fevronia as his wife. The prince gave his consent, but he was cunning in his soul - he could not see the future princess in the commoner. And the receding disease returned again as soon as Peter returned to his house, not keeping his promise.

The prince humbly asked the village girl to become his wife, and the wedding took place, but there was no trace of Peter's illness.

After the death of Paul, Peter and Fevronia ascended the princely throne. They ruled wisely and were loved by their people, but the origin of the princess haunted the prince's noble entourage - the boyars and their wives. But no matter how much they persuaded the prince to abandon his lawful wife, they did not achieve anything. Then the perfidious boyars went to the princess herself with a demand to leave the city and permission to take with her the most valuable thing for herself. The princess did not argue with the boyars - she retired from Murom, taking with her the most precious thing - her husband.

However, as soon as the faithful spouses sailed away from the city, intrigues and turmoil began in Murom - grace left the city along with the prince and princess. Tired of the strife of the boyars and the division of power, the inhabitants demanded the return of Peter and Fevronia, and the boyars went to bow to the exiled spouses.

After their return, Peter and Fevronia reigned for a long time in Murom, and the city flourished. In advanced years, the saints took monasticism under the names David and Euphrosyne. And even death did not separate the spouses forever bound by God. In their will, they ordered that their bodies be placed in one coffin after their death, but the servants did not dare to bury the two monks together. However, miraculously at night, the bodies of the blessed prince and princess were transferred to the coffin that they had prepared for themselves for a joint burial. And again people tried to put their bodies in different coffins. And again the Lord revealed his will - to put Peter and Fevronia to rest in the same grave.
