BTR Boomerang: history of creation and detailed description. BTR Boomerang: the history of creation and a detailed description What is known about the "Boomerang"

The arms industry does not stand still and continues to develop in the countries of the planet. New weapons are invented and combat vehicles. Most countries are developing armored vehicles with a specific, necessary for this moment characteristic. Russian developers are not far behind in this regard, the news was the creation of a universal combat platform "Boomerang".

The armored personnel carrier differs from the existing ones in its design and manufacturability. For public viewing, the Boomerang armored personnel carrier was demonstrated at a military parade on May 9, 2015.

Creation

"Boomerang" is declared an integrated platform for military purposes, on its basis they are going to create hitherto unprecedented models of armored vehicles. Since the beginning of the 2000s, LLC Military Industrial Enterprise has been developing an armored vehicle, and the same enterprise plans to release it.

The Boomerang was developed on the Gilza and Rostok projects, but the Russian military renounced them, they motivated the refusal by the fact that the equipment did not meet the requested requirements.

For example, the Gilza armored personnel carrier should place a power plant in the middle of the hull, it was also planned to supply military weapons similar to the BTR-82, and dynamic protection.

The released armored vehicle turned out to be unsuccessful, there was no space inside and they did not begin to modernize the "Sleeve" further. However, thanks to the experience associated with working on past projects, the creation of Boomerang was productive.

The best design solutions were transferred to this model, so the Boomerang is listed as the latest generation of armored personnel carriers, and not a modernized model.

The model was presented in 2013 at the Russia Arms EXPO show for a narrow audience. In 2019, it is planned to deliver the first serial Boomerang armored personnel carriers.

Design

The Boomerang device complies with the technical requirements:

  1. The model weighs 20 tons.
  2. Landing and disembarkation of troops is carried out from the stern.
  3. The platform is equipped with military weapons that can be controlled from a distance.
  4. Powertrain, quadruple diesel engine UTD-32 turbocharged, 510 hp. with., with hydromechanical transmission and hydrostatic transmission, located in the front hull of the armored vehicle.
  5. The model has retained the generally accepted 8x8 wheeled view.
  6. Jet motors located at the rear of the hull help move along the water surface.
  7. The air collector and snorkel located above the body make air access to the hermetically sealed engine and internal compartments hassle-free.

The armored personnel carrier easily moves over rough terrain, develops a speed of 100 km / h on the highway, with a cruising range of 800 km. We increased the space of the compartment for the paratroopers, which added convenience and comfort, since, in the army, soldiers currently have more equipment. In addition, getting out of a spacious car is much easier.

Armor

When creating the "Boomerang" VPK-7829, they used multi-layer armor containing ceramics. This type of protection is many times more effective than homogeneous protection. The main distinctive feature that distinguishes layered armor- This is an indicator of protective properties against cumulative projectiles.

According to the terms of reference, the frontal armor of the armored personnel carrier should have an appropriate resistance to anti-tank grenades, heavy and small-caliber machine guns, and small-caliber artillery shells.

Armament

About "Boomerang" unfortunately information about performance characteristics and there are no engines yet, it is kept a secret. But that version of the BMP, demonstrated on May 9, contains:

  • military weapons controlled remotely;
  • automatic gun 30 mm 2A42;
  • machine gun PKT;
  • complex anti-tank missiles, guided missiles "Kornet".
  • The automatic cannon contains a combat set of 500 rounds.

Fire is on:

  1. Gunner operator.
  2. Commander of an armored personnel carrier.

Combat kits are isolated from close proximity to the airborne department and the team.

The Boomerang is also equipped with the promising AU-220M or Baikal automatic weapons (as this combat unit was unofficially called). He has a 57 mm cannon with a speed of 120 rounds per minute, a combat set designed for 200 rounds, the distance of the shots fired is 12 km.

The tower rotates 360 degrees, the barrel rises 75 degrees.

This gun is fast-firing and capable of hitting any target, but there are still exceptions, these are heavy tanks and specialized long-term firing points. Experts note that 57 caliber is capable of firing to kill at:

  • light armored vehicles;
  • enemy hideouts;
  • high altitude targets.

"Baikal" uninhabited weapons in the form of a tower, controlled from an armored vehicle.

Combat use

Armored personnel carrier "Boomerang" is intended:

  1. Transport cargo, infantry companies.
  2. Support fire and cover the corps of soldiers going on the offensive.
  3. It is possible to overcome water barriers to achieve the goal.

These indicators allow the use of armored personnel carriers by the Ground Forces and Navy for amphibious assault.

Tactical and technical characteristics

Motor armored personnel carrier "Boomerang":

  • UTD - 32 TR.

Speed indicators:

  • on the highway - 100 km / h.

Weapon arsenal:

  • 30 mm gun;
  • 2A42 combat set, 500 rounds, 160 BPS-340 OFS;
  • shot distance 4000 m;
  • 4 installations "Kornet", shot distance 8000 m, NDC - 10 000 m;

PKTM contains a combat set of 2000 rounds.

Prospects for further modernization

For this period, one type of weapon was demonstrated, which the Boomerang is equipped with. In the future, the combat platform may be armed with another type of weapon. Serial production of the Boomerang is planned for 2017-2018, and VPP LLC is going to start a large-scale supply for the army in 2019.

The developers plan to modernize the armored personnel carrier and create new models based on it. Such as:

  1. Mobile anti-tank complex.
  2. Wheeled tanks.
  3. Other types of special vehicles.

All models will be different from each other and each with special weapons. There are already in stock created on the basis of the "Boomerang": the K-16 armored personnel carrier and the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle.

Competitors

Every year, new types of weapons are presented on the world military equipment market, which includes armored personnel carriers. But the invention of a new sample does not yet speak of its good functionality. Some countries produce armored personnel carriers, but expert assessments speak of their mediocre capabilities and inflated, sometimes in vain, prices.

True, from the foreign technology of armored vehicles, the Black Widow Spider, developed by the Thailand Institute of Defense Technology, is noted. The model does not shine with originality, military weapons a 30 mm cannon connected to a STANAG 4569 machine gun. Experts note the fact that the accelerated production of this armored personnel carrier is an alternative to deliveries to the country of BTR-3E1 made in Ukraine.

Also tested in Iraq, Afghanistan, armored personnel carriers from Canada LAV-25 and the weighted model M1126 Stryker, according to expert estimates, have already demonstrated weak protective qualities and a low fire rate.

Military armaments experts, speaking of foreign models of armored vehicles, speak of them as intermediate variants of armored personnel carriers, high-profile presentations launched on this occasion by a PR move by manufacturers.

What about Russian project"Boomerang", then experts point to the equipment of this machine modern weapons, means of observation, protective complexes. Initially, it was announced that it would not be like other, modern armored vehicles, a model. The tests carried out showed the good functionality of the armored personnel carrier.

The armored personnel carrier turns into a tank destroyer and into an inaccessible object for an enemy projectile, due to the high protection of the armor. There are many interesting points about the armored car that are still a secret, from which the car becomes mysterious and the media is filled with rumors. Let's hope that the developers will eventually demonstrate the wonders of technological progress, and new samples of armored personnel carriers will exceed all expectations.

Video

Currently, the main armored personnel carrier on which the Russian infantry moves is the BTR-80 and its modification, the BTR-82. These are good cars that have been repeatedly tested in various conflicts, but they are already outdated. Already today, the Russian Ground Forces need a new armored personnel carrier. This should be a fundamentally new machine, and not just another modernization of old Soviet models.

One of the main intrigues of the Victory Parade, which took place in 2019, was the display of the latest Boomerang armored personnel carrier, rumors about it have been circulating on the pages of various media for several years now. Shortly before the event, the military slightly lifted the veil of secrecy over the new car, but a lot of details remain unknown to this day. So far, we practically do not know the performance characteristics of the new machine.

In fact, the Boomerang armored personnel carrier should become not only a new vehicle, but a real unified platform, on the basis of which new models of armored vehicles will be created. The development of the Boomerang is carried out by the Military Industrial Company LLC, which will also produce these machines.

The path to the birth of a new car was long and difficult. When developing the Boomerang, the experience of creating several armored personnel carriers was used.

History of creation

"Boomerang" is a continuation of two projects to create a new BRT, which were conducted in Russia over the past years. Initially, the project was called "Sleeve" and it actively used the developments obtained during the creation of the BTR-90 "Rostok".

The Russian military abandoned both vehicles, citing the fact that these armored personnel carriers do not meet their requirements. On the machine, which was created during the implementation of the "Sleeve" project, it was planned to place the power plant in the middle part of the hull, install an armament module similar to that on the BTR-82 and use a dynamic protection system. However, the car turned out to be not very successful: the space inside the hull turned out to be very cramped, it had no opportunities for further modernization. But the experience of working on these projects was very useful in the development of the Boomerang: all the successful design solutions were transferred to the new machine. However, despite this, the Boomerang is a completely new machine, it is not a deep modernization of Soviet models.

For the first time, official information about the development in Russia of a fundamentally new armored personnel carrier appeared in 2010. Commander announced this ground forces Alexander Postnikov.

One of the main problems of the BTR-80 was a rather weak level of protection, especially against mines and land mines. Therefore, fighters prefer to move on top of the car, and not inside it. It was the weakness of mine protection that was one of the main reasons for starting work on a new armored personnel carrier. It was not possible to modernize the old Soviet armored personnel carriers in this direction, they have completely exhausted their modernization resource. It was necessary to create an armored personnel carrier with new form hull, new layout and armor made from modern materials. When creating the Boomerang, special attention was paid to protecting the crew and paratroopers from mines and land mines.

Also, various anti-tank weapons pose a great danger in modern combat. The developers of the machine paid special attention to the protection of armored personnel carriers from cumulative ammunition.

BTR "Boomerang" was first shown at a closed presentation, which took place in 2013. The car was shown to the general public during the Victory Parade in 2019. Serial deliveries new technology planning to start in 2019.

Machine Description

Today we do not have comprehensive information about the characteristics of the Boomerang armored personnel carrier. There is only scattered information. Based on it, we will try to present you a new armored personnel carrier.

It is known that the weight of the new vehicle is about 20 tons, while some of the modifications created on the basis of the Boomerang will weigh up to 25 tons, thanks to increased armor protection. The power compartment is located in the bow of the vehicle, increasing the protection of the armored personnel carrier from explosions and enemy frontal fire. The hatch for landing is located in the stern - the most protected during the battle. Significantly increased the volume of the troop compartment, compared with machines developed in the USSR. In those days, bulletproof vests were not practically used, so the fighters needed less space. A modern soldier has much more weapons and ammunition, so he needs more space. And it takes less time to leave a more spacious car, so in this case, size is not only a matter of convenience, but also safety.

When creating the Boomerang armored personnel carrier, multilayer armor was used, which includes ceramics. This type of armor is much more effective than conventional homogeneous armor and has never been used before creating an easy armored vehicles. Usually it is used when creating tanks. Basic hallmark layered armor is its high effectiveness against HEAT ammunition. According to the terms of reference, the frontal armor of the Boomerang must withstand the fire of small-caliber artillery, the vehicle must withstand the hit of an anti-tank grenade from any side, as well as the fire of a heavy machine gun.

What kind of engine was used to create the Boomerang armored personnel carrier is still unknown, we do not know its power and other characteristics of the power plant. One thing must be said for sure - this engine is definitely more powerful than on the BTR-80. Given the rather serious weight of the Boomerang, it should also have a more powerful engine. Most likely, the power will be more than 600 horsepower.

The new armored personnel carrier retains the traditional 8x8 wheel arrangement. It can swim, propelled through the water by jet engines mounted on the back of the hull. Information about the speed that the new car will be able to develop is not yet available.

The machine that could be seen at the parade in Moscow is armed with a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a PKT machine gun and an anti-tank missile system, firing Kornet guided missiles. Armament is assembled into a single combat module, which is controlled remotely. The ammunition load of the automatic cannon is 500 rounds. Both the commander of the vehicle and the operator-gunner can fire. Ammunition is securely isolated from members of the landing group and crew.

However, so far we have seen only one version of weapons that can be installed on the Boomerang. This combat platform can be equipped with various types of weapons.

On the basis of this Boomerang, they plan to create a mobile anti-tank complex, an infantry fighting vehicle, a wheeled tank, an armored personnel carrier, and many types of special vehicles. All of them will differ in their weapons.

It is likely that the latest surveillance and fire control systems will be installed on the armored personnel carrier. Most likely, these vehicles will be included in a unified tactical-level control system, which will allow the commander to see the vehicles on the battlefield online.

While it is difficult to give a final assessment new car. We are waiting for the appearance of official information about its performance characteristics and its cost.

BTR K-16 and BMP K-17 (VPK-7829) - modern Russian armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Based on the Boomerang platform.

The development of the "Boomerang" was not carried out from scratch - the experience gained in the manufacture of experimental BTR-90s was actively used. During the development work "Rostok" and "Rostok-M" almost a dozen machines were built, differing in the applied design features and technical solutions. Despite this, when creating the Boomerang, the designers encountered many problems that were eventually successfully resolved. By September 2013, the prototype was demonstrated to the top leadership of the country and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation at the closed exposition of the international exhibition RAE-2013 in Nizhny Tagil. It was decided that the Boomerangs, as well as new vehicles on the Armata and Kurganets-25 platforms, would take part in the Victory Parade on Red Square in honor of the 70th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany. For this, it was necessary to build more than one car, but half a dozen, and do everything so that they pass with dignity at the Parade.

The main conceptual directions of the Boomerang R&D were a new layout of a wheeled combat vehicle with a bow engine-transmission compartment (MTO), an ergonomic landing position in the aft part of the hull, optimal placement of standard and additional equipment, optimization of the reserved volume, the use of additional differentiated modular protection schemes and principle of modular design. Combat vehicles based on a unified wheeled platform will consist of the platform itself and the equipment installed on it, which determines the purpose and main characteristics of the sample. Thus, prototypes of the wheeled armored vehicle VPK-7829 "Boomerang" in the version of the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle marched through Red Square five years after the first drafts of the presentations of the ROC "Gilza", and the first prototype saw the light in general after 3.5 years.

The medium wheeled unified armored platform "Boomerang" with a wheel arrangement of 8x8 is intended as a base for armored personnel carriers of infantry fighting vehicles, as well as a family of armored vehicles weighing up to 25 tons of combat, technical and logistic support units of the types and branches of the RF Armed Forces. Combat vehicles based on this platform should replace the BTR-80, BTR-80A and BTR-82A / AM currently used in motorized rifle formations, as well as provide equipment for highly maneuverable formations in which it is impossible to operate tracked infantry fighting vehicles. The overall layout of the platform is made according to a new scheme, according to which domestic combat wheeled vehicles were not built before. The solutions implemented in the design of the vehicle provide an ergonomic landing position, optimal placement of standard and additional equipment, and also allow the use of new schemes for additional differentiated modular protection for advanced echelon vehicles. combat use.

The modularity of the Boomerang design makes it possible to change the configuration of a specific machine of the family by including or excluding a number of systems or complexes, depending on the purpose of the sample and the requirements of the Customer. Without alteration of the hull and significant rearrangement, complexes can be excluded (or installed additionally) active protection(KAZ), optoelectronic suppression (KOEP), electromagnetic protection systems (SEMP), software and hardware complex (NTK), diesel generator set (DGU), air conditioning system and even a combat module. At the same time, their absence does not disrupt the operation of other systems, units and components of the unified platform.

The engine compartment (MTO) is located in the bow of the armored hull of the vehicle, along the starboard side. To the left of it is equipped with a control compartment with a driver's workplace with three prism observation devices. The driver's seat is equipped with a personal sunroof, the armored cover of which opens upwards to the rear, while it can be fixed in intermediate positions to ensure "stowed" movement, providing maximum visibility to the driver. Two prism observation devices are installed in the armored cover of the driver's hatch. Probably, the right one can serve as a night vision device. To control the machine, two pedals (fuel and brake) and a steering wheel with an automatic transmission control lever are used. The control panel has an interactive multifunction display. Behind the MTO and the driver's workplace are the places of the commander and gunner-operator, the equipment of which is similar, since the possibility of duplicating their functions has been realized. The commander and gunner-operator take their places through the troop compartment; they do not have personal hatches.

The troop compartment is designed to comfortably accommodate eight people in full gear. The seats of the paratroopers are anti-traumatic, with a transfer link and five-point seat belts. Above the troop compartment, on the roof of the hull, an armament complex is mounted in an uninhabited tower (combat module). For the landing and disembarkation of troops in the aft armor plate of the hull, a folding ramp is equipped, which ensures the exit of the troops in full equipment into a column of two, which reduces the landing time to 3 s. To leave the car in an emergency, a single-leaf door opens to the right in the ramp. It has a lockable loophole for firing from personal assault weapons into the rear hemisphere. In addition to places for landing troops, this compartment provides a place for packing the personal belongings of the fighters. The paratroopers are placed along the sides of the armored hull, with their backs to them. In the roof of the hull near the aft armor plate, two rectangular hatches are equipped; their armored covers open up and to the sides of the sides and stop in a vertical position. Hatches can be used for observation in the absence of enemy fire, as well as for firing from RPGs or MANPADS without leaving the vehicle, for example, on the move.

The high efficiency of the crew and troops during a long stay inside the vehicle is ensured by the air conditioning system in the habitable compartments in combination with air purification facilities - FVU. Pipelines for the supply of purified cooled or heated air have been connected to the crew workplaces and the locations of the paratroopers. For monitoring environment soldiers in the troop compartment have multifunctional displays that can display images from the cameras of the circular view system, which includes seven low-level video cameras high resolution installed along the sides and at the stern of the machine hull.

The armored body of the unified medium wheeled platform VPK-7829 "Boomerang" is a unique design. The fact is that in connection with the constantly changing requirements in the TOR during the development work "Boomerang" various technical solutions were considered. Ultimately, the designers came to the conclusion to develop an armored platform hull that would satisfy the most conflicting requirements. In particular, on the VPK-7829, without any additional modifications, it is possible to use a torsion bar or adjustable hydropneumatic suspension, mount a combat module weighing more than 5 tons, install additional modules that provide higher levels of ballistic protection (for this, the hull is equipped with special attachment points around the entire perimeter ). On the machines VPK-7829 "Boomerang" K-17, which participated in the Victory Parade in 2016, the hull underwent some modifications. So, tides appeared in the bow, forming niches for the front wheels and serving as additional floats. A box for spare parts is installed between the second and third wheels on the starboard side. Modifications to the hull completed the exterior of the car and significantly added to the aesthetics of the Boomerang.

Depending on the type of combat vehicle based on the medium unified interspecific wheeled platform "Boomerang" (BTR K-16 or BMP K-17), one or another remote-controlled combat module (BMDU) is used. By the way, in the spring of 2015, the first samples of the Boomerang platforms began training for the Victory Parade in the armored personnel carrier version. This was due to the fact that the developers of the combat modules for equipping the infantry fighting vehicles did not have time to deliver them on time. Only after the personal intervention of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, the module manufacturer delivered them to the parade ground in Alabino and installed them on the vehicles. At the dress rehearsal on May 7 and at the Parade on May 9, 2015, the Boomerangs were held in the version of the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle. A month later, at the International Arms Exhibition "Army-2015" at a closed exhibition to the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin and the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation S.K. Shoigu was presented with another version of the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle, equipped with a different combat module.

On the BMP K-17, designed to transport a unit of motorized riflemen, conduct combat from a vehicle and fire support for dismounted shooters, an uninhabited universal combat module "Boomerang-BM" is installed - an analogue of the "Epoch" module mounted on the BMP B-11 (based on a tracked platform "Kurganets-25"). It was developed by the designers of the Tula KBP and is made in the form of an uninhabited tower with a weapon system. As the main weapon in this combat module, a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon with a two-ribbon selective feed was used. Ready for combat use, the ammunition load of an automatic gun is 500 rounds packed in two belts: one with 160 rounds of armor-piercing tracer and armor-piercing sub-caliber projectiles (BPS and BPS), the second with 340 high-explosive fragmentation incendiary and fragmentation tracer projectiles (OFZS and OTS). The gun is installed in a special box-shaped casing, which reduces the visibility of the machine in the IR and RL ranges. The range of effective fire from 2A42 at unarmored targets and enemy manpower OFZS and OTS is up to 4 km, at lightly armored targets of BTS and BPS - from 1.5 to 2 km, and at low-flying low-speed air targets - up to 2.5 km. The rate of fire from the cannon is switched: large can be set - 550-600 shots / min., Small - 200-300 shots / min. and single shots.

As an additional weapon in the armament complex of the BMP K-17, a 7.62-mm PKTM machine gun coaxial with a cannon with an ammunition load of 2000 rounds equipped in one tape is used. The machine gun is designed to deal with enemy manpower, unarmored fire and vehicles subject to line of sight. The maximum range of aimed fire is 2000 m. missile weapons BMP K-17 included two twin ATGM launchers anti-tank complex"Kornet-D", placed on the sides of an uninhabited tower (four guided missiles in total) and ready for combat use. "Kornet-D" is designed to deal with armored moving and stationary ground targets (main tanks, including advanced ones, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, DOS, pillbox shelters, etc.), low-flying aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aircraft, so it uses guided missiles with a tandem HEAT warhead and a high-explosive fragmentation (thermobaric) warhead with a non-contact target sensor. Rockets with a tandem HEAT warhead have a maximum firing range of up to 8000 m and armor penetration of 1100-1300 mm of homogeneous armor, and with a high-explosive fragmentation (thermobaric) warhead with a non-contact target sensor - a maximum firing range of 10,000 m and ensure effective destruction of enemy manpower , unarmored and low-flying low-speed targets.

According to experts, the weapon system should be supplemented with a 30- or 40-mm automatic grenade launcher. Although even when drawing the project of the combat module automatic grenade launcher attended there. The high efficiency of the weapons of the combat module "Boomerang-BM" is provided by a new all-day automated fire control system (FCS). In addition to the on-board computer and a set of firing conditions sensors, it includes two independent combined sighting and observation systems for the commander and gunner-operator, with independent two-cavity stabilization of the field of view, with television, thermal imaging, laser rangefinder channels and a laser channel for forming the missile control field. According to the developers, the SLA guarantees automatic search for targets simultaneously in different spectral ranges in passive and active mode, search and detection of camouflaged targets with an optical locator and simultaneous firing of two targets. The sighting system of the BMP K-17 is capable of detecting enemy targets at night at ranges up to 3500 m. In addition, the FCS makes it possible to conduct highly effective firing from the 2A42 cannon at air targets using a target tracking machine at weapon elevation angles up to +70 "

One of the features of the SLA is combat work in remote control mode or work on external target designation, i.e. when the crew leaves the car Thanks to the automation and robotization of many processes of the combat module, automatic tracking of the target and its shelling until destruction are ensured; the operator only needs to indicate the target, after which the on-board computer starts independent tracking of it. The Boomerang-BM combat module can be controlled by both the gunner-operator and the vehicle commander, K design features The SLA includes the block-modular principle of its construction and the versatility of combat use, which ultimately leads to an increase in the security of the crew,

The K-16 armored personnel carrier based on the medium unified wheeled armored platform "Boomerang" is intended for transporting personnel of motorized rifle troops to the battlefield, their fire support, as well as for transporting cargo and towing trailers. Its main difference from the K-17 BMP is the installation of a simpler and lighter remote-controlled weapon station developed by Burevestnik JSC. As the main weapon, it uses a large-caliber 12.7-mm machine gun "KORD" 6P49, stabilized in two planes. In this combat module, an all-day automated control system with a combined sighting system is used, similar in composition and characteristics to the complex installed in the Boomerang-BM combat module. It provides effective engagement of ground targets at ranges up to 2000 m, and air targets - up to 1500 m.

The high level of security of combat vehicles, made on the basis of the medium wheeled armored platform "Boomerang", is provided by a whole range of protection equipment. These include means of reducing visibility, passive armor protection, as well as active protection and jamming systems. To reduce the visibility of the BMP K-17 and BTR K-16, special materials and paint are applied to their hulls and combat modules. This reduces the likelihood of detecting vehicles both in the optical range and when the enemy uses radar detection tools. It is likely that armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles can be equipped with the “Cape” visibility reduction kit, which makes it difficult or even impossible for the enemy to use various anti-tank systems or precision weapons. The required level of ballistic protection of the machine is provided by an all-welded body made of armored steel. Depending on the combat missions that the infantry fighting vehicles or armored personnel carriers will have to solve, the vehicle is equipped with additional modules protection. The upper frontal armor part has a large angle of inclination and is reinforced with a wave-reflecting shield. The lower frontal armored detail is reinforced with an additional armor plate, which forms a spaced armor of the frontal armored plate.

A distinctive feature of the K-17 BMP and the K-16 BTR is the unusually high hull profile compared to Soviet-designed vehicles of this class. The reason for the increase in the dimensions of new samples (primarily in height) is associated with the fulfillment of the requirements for mine protection. To ensure high anti-mine resistance and safety of crew members and troops during explosions on mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the bottom of the vehicle must, if possible, be raised above the ground higher. In addition, so-called anti-mine "sandwiches" - multilayer fillers - can be used in the design of the bottom of the hull. The increase in the height of the vehicle hull is also caused by the installation of special anti-mine seats that require a height margin of at least 200 mm to the roof of the hull from the head of a crew member or paratrooper sitting in the chair and fixed with seat belts. Otherwise, no anti-traumatic chairs will help to stay alive during an explosion. a very powerful charge under the wheel or bottom of the car.

Like most modern models of armored weapons and equipment, the K-17 BMP has an optoelectronic suppression complex (KOEP), including multispectral sensors of optoelectronic radiation, a control and switching unit, as well as launchers for firing ammunition, setting aerosol curtains, KOEP automatically shoots aerosol grenades in the direction of the detected radiation, which form a cloud of smoke with metal particles in a fraction of a second. Such a curtain hides the combat vehicle not only in the visible optical spectrum of observation, but also in the spectra of thermal imaging and radar detection and guidance devices, and does not allow the enemy to attack the infantry fighting vehicle,

On combat vehicles made on the basis of the medium wheeled armored platform "Boomerang", the installation of a system for blocking or premature detonation of mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with electromagnetic fuses is provided.
The Afghanit active protection complex (KAZ) is installed on the K-17 BMP, which is capable of automatically detecting incoming reactive anti-tank grenades and guided missiles and destroy them with specially fired ammunition at a distance of 200 to 4 m from the vehicle. According to reports in the open press, KAZ "Afganit" can intercept any attacking ammunition - not only ATGMs and RPG rocket-propelled grenades, but also artillery armor-piercing sub-caliber shells, as well as aircraft missiles. The launchers of the complex are mounted around the perimeter of the lower part of the combat module. There is no Afghanit on the K-16 armored personnel carrier.

The high mobility of armored vehicles based on the medium wheeled armored platform "Boomerang" is provided by a new powerful and economical power plant with an automatic transmission, an original transmission, an independent torsion bar suspension of the wheels, a modern design of mechanically driven water jets, as well as an onboard information and control system ( BIUS). The power plant of the Boomerang platform is a monoblock, which includes a power unit with attachments and an automatic transmission, cooling and preheating systems.

The platform uses a new generation turbodiesel YaMZ-780 - multi-fuel, liquid-cooled, 12-cylinder V-shaped turbocharged. It develops 750 hp. and provides a combat vehicle (depending on its type and purpose) with a specific power of 30 hp / t or more. In combination with an automatic transmission with automatic or manual gear shifting (six forward and one reverse), a modern on-board kinematic transmission scheme and a perfect running gear, this allows the car to reach a maximum speed of at least 100 km / h on the highway and up to 50 km / h on rough terrain. km/h The combined method of turning (due to turning the steered pairs of wheels and changing the speed of rotation of the wheels on opposite sides) provides the Boomerang with a turn with a radius 2 times smaller than on the Western European Boxer, Patria and VBCI.

As already noted, the design of the chassis provides for the possibility of installing (without modifications to body parts) both a traditional torsion bar suspension and an adjustable hydropneumatic suspension. Fire-resistant wheels with a radial tire with RunFlat inserts are used, which provide the necessary characteristics of stability, handling, load capacity and mobility in case of tire damage. Vehicles based on the Boomerang wheeled armored platform are equipped with an auxiliary power unit with an additional power supply unit with a capacity of 10 kW. This allows the use of all on-board systems and the weapon system in defense or when parked in place without increased fuel consumption. Overcoming water obstacles by swimming is ensured by a sealed displacement hull and the presence of two mechanically driven water jets, installed one on each side in the stern. The maximum speed afloat is up to 10 km/h.

The high performance of this combat property of combat vehicles based on the Boomerang medium wheeled armored platform was achieved through the use of modern technologies, using the CICS. all-round video surveillance systems, the availability of modern digital means of communication with the possibility of exchanging information in the data transfer mode. The CICS, built on a block-modular principle, allows you to turn a unified platform into a universal base machine that provides connection and control of various systems (weapon systems, control systems, technological equipment, etc.) with control and interaction between them with minimization of incompetent interference
the so-called "human factor". In addition, the CICS, if necessary, plays the role of a "black box", which allows for a current analysis of the actions of the crew and the functioning of the vehicle.

The software and hardware complex makes it possible to integrate the "Boomerang" into a single automated control system TK and ensures operation in a single information space combat control, allows you to receive and transmit the necessary service information about the position and status of your own and interacting fire weapons, combat vehicles and subunits, as well as the position of the enemy and his fire weapons with subordinate, interacting units, higher command bodies, with real-time reconnaissance means ( including information accumulated by the CICS of the vehicle about the remaining ammunition load, fuel supply, condition and technical malfunctions of systems, etc.). The control of the vehicle as a whole (weapon, unit, landing, special systems, with the exception of driving and mobility systems) is carried out from the universal automated workplaces of the vehicle commander and unit commander. Their monitors can display all necessary information in the shortest time. The vehicles are equipped with the GLONASS satellite topographic location system.

Saturation with automated means of communication and control eliminates the need for the creation and production of specialized command vehicles for commanders of battalions, regiments, and brigades. Currently, combat vehicles on the average unified wheeled armored platform "Boomerang" are undergoing preliminary tests. According to experts, their serial production and entry into the troops can be expected in two years.

security
Depending on the combat missions that the infantry fighting vehicles or armored personnel carriers will have to solve, the vehicle is equipped with additional protection modules.

There is no Afghanit on the K-16 armored personnel carrier

Mobility

To the parade in honor of the 70th anniversary great victory new models of Russian military equipment are being prepared, which are planned to be put into service in the very near future. Among them is the Boomerang armored personnel carrier. Photos of this armored personnel carrier, created to replace the BTR-82, are rarely published so far. Even now, vehicles are covered with tarpaulins to keep the main weapons and surveillance systems out of the reach of overly inquisitive eyes. But some information is still leaking to the press, and it should be assumed that this is happening quite sanctioned. It can be used to judge the degree of innovation of the main technical solutions used in the design of the Boomerang armored personnel carrier, which has the official designation VPK-7829.

Armored personnel carriers as a type of equipment

The armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles are vehicles designed to perform a dual task: they must deliver infantry units to the battlefield and provide them with fire support. In some cases, they are used to cover the advancing soldiers with corps, but this is possible only when the defending forces do not have at their disposal powerful means of combating armored vehicles. Otherwise, vehicles with relatively light protection (as a rule, anti-bullet and anti-fragmentation) are doomed to an early defeat by shells, ATGMs or hand grenade launchers.

The armored personnel carriers developed in the USSR and other countries have another drawback: they are very vulnerable to minefields. Machines have traditionally sought to facilitate, providing them with maximum speed and firepower, as well as air mobility, and therefore the bottom has poor protection. When a landmine or anti-tank mine explodes at the time of the collision, there is serious danger the death of the crew and all other military personnel inside the hull from compression effects. It is for this reason that during armed conflicts recent decades(including the Afghan war), soldiers, as a rule, on the march preferred to be on the armor, quite reasonably fearing enemy bullets less than insidious mines set on the road.

When designing the new Russian armored personnel carrier "Boomerang", the designers of the "Military Industrial Company" tried to level the circumstances that prevent the successful implementation of the main functions of this type of weapon, and expand its capabilities.

Radical technical and ideological changes

Traditionally, Russian designers of military equipment rely on the experience gained in Soviet years. However, this time the familiar system was rejected from the outset. In the 90s, work was underway to create a new armored personnel carrier "Rostok" (BTR-90), which was a deep modernization of the BTR-82, but the leadership of the Ministry of Defense was not impressed with the results. The project was called "Gilza". The engine was supposed to be placed in the middle of the car, the interior space remained cramped, and the modification potential of the sample was extremely limited. Work on the BTR-90 was stopped, but some successful solutions were decided to be transferred to new project"Boomerang". The armored personnel carrier, however, had to be practically created anew, having completely revised the entire ideology and architecture of the combat vehicle.

What is known about the "Boomerang"

In addition to the published images, the weight of the loaded vehicle is reliably known - it is 20 tons, but it is assumed that in certain modifications it can reach 25. The engine layout is rational: it occupies the front and partially the middle length of the armored hull, protecting the crew and infantrymen. The internal volume of the troop compartment is increased compared to the BTR-82 and other Soviet-designed motorized infantry vehicles. This is due to the fact that in modern conditions military personnel have more voluminous equipment, including bulletproof vests. Soldiers can leave a roomy car much faster than a cramped one, thus increasing the size is not only a matter of comfort, but also of safety. And she got a lot of attention.

Personnel protection

The not very rich information provided to public media channels contains information that the degree of protection of personnel in the armored hull from damaging factors used by a potential adversary on present stage, is unprecedented. This is facilitated by several revolutionary technical solutions, including the layout scheme, the use of layered armor protection and special measures that protect against the effects of the impact of the blast wave from below. Even the seats are not mounted on the floor - they are suspended from the top plate and with a strong push will help mitigate the shaking. It is also important that the crew, like the landing force, if necessary, leaves the car through the rear hatches-doors, avoiding sectors of fire. The design of the BTR "Boomerang" also provides for various types of active protection.

tank armor

In modern combat, the enemy can use any, including the most powerful anti-tank systems. HEAT shells and rocket-propelled grenades burn through the thickest armor, their device is designed to destroy all existing species technology. It is simply impossible today to fully guarantee impenetrability, but the complication of this task means an increase in the likelihood of success. The Boomerang armored personnel carrier VPK-7829 is equipped with special armor, which infantry vehicles have never been protected before. The ceramic layer, integrated into a special panel, is able to contain the cumulative jet and prevent it from penetrating inside the case. This type of armor is usually intended for tanks, but modern requirements have prompted military-industrial complex engineers to apply it to the transporter.

Power plant and running gear

Details unknown, as well as power diesel engine, which is equipped with the Boomerang armored personnel carrier. Specifications were not disclosed, but it is obvious that they are significantly superior to the performance of machines of earlier releases (BTR-80, BTR-82, and even more so BTR-70), from which we can conclude that the power unit simply cannot be weaker than 600 horsepower . The dimensions have been increased compared to previous models, the protection has been strengthened, therefore, corresponding power is required to ensure speed and maneuverability. Another circumstance - the displacement of the diesel engine from the central axis and the presence of the driver's passage to the reserve hatch - indicates that the transmission of forces to the wheels is unusual. Most likely, each roller has its own electric drive, and the front-mounted engine serves to power the generator shaft. This version is also supported by the grace with which water cannons are attached to the armored hull.

Platform versatility

From the very beginning (development began presumably in 2010) new armored personnel carrier Russia "Boomerang" was created not just as a means of delivering infantry and its fire support. It should become the basis (platform) on which the technical possibility of producing machines for various purposes is provided, and, if necessary, also have the potential for rapid re-equipment by changing modules. On the basis of the chassis, it is planned to produce anti-tank mobile systems, evacuators of the wounded, front-line reconnaissance, air defense and electronic warfare equipment. Therefore, the images of the secret car that have become the property of the media are different. The new Russian armored personnel carrier "Boomerang", the photo of which sometimes shows the absence of a tower or the presence of some devices of unknown purpose, can have a wide variety of equipment.

Weapon

This infantry vehicle is heavily armed. The first thing that any military observer usually pays attention to, out of old habit, is a turret gun. In the standard version, announced in the press, it is rapid-fire (2A42), has a caliber of 30 mm and is controlled remotely. However, there is information that there are prototypes of the Boomerang armored personnel carrier with a 57-mm automatic cannon. The robotic combat module, isolated from the crew, also includes a 7.62-caliber PKTM machine gun and two Kornet launchers capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 10 km. Armaments are controlled by an automated control system that searches for targets (including camouflaged ones) in automatic mode in any weather and lighting conditions.

There is also a variant in which the rapid-fire artillery gun is replaced by a 12.7 mm machine gun, which also has computerized control.

KAZ

There is no official confirmation of this information yet, but experts believe that the Boomerang armored personnel carrier may well have an active protection complex as part of its equipment. This system protects a combat unit within a hemisphere of a certain radius from almost all weapons, such as ATGMs, NURs, and even anti-tank shells. If mass-produced copies are really equipped with KAZs, then the new armored personnel carrier will become the world's most protected means of transport and fire support for infantry. Together with other electronic devices that the Boomerang is saturated with, the active protection complex is included in the integrated control system for all functions of the combat vehicle - from controlling the operation of electric motors to ultra-precise notification and navigation. Thermal imaging equipment is used for observation at night. The commander can always judge the serviceability of components and assemblies or the degree of their damage thanks to a convenient indication.

Floating APC

The presence of two symmetrically located water cannons in the aft part of the machine indicates the ability of the machine to overcome water obstacles. This quality is very important in the context of local tactical operations, during which the establishment of crossings is difficult or can unmask the direction of the main attack, and the capture of bridges is not always justified. The "navigable" qualities can be very useful in sea or river landings, especially if the landing craft cannot come close to the shore. It is not known for certain what speed water cannons impart to the Boomerang armored personnel carrier, representatives of the design bureau are limited to the definition of “not bad”.

Project prospects

Very little time will pass, and today's unique machine will become quite common and familiar in military units, displacing the BTR-80, the production of which, quite possibly, will be continued for export deliveries - not every country can afford to purchase modern expensive high-tech equipment.

The launch in a large series is planned for 2017. It will begin after comprehensive checks and full-scale tests in the troops, confirming the combat readiness and high efficiency of the new model. Boomerangs will become technical basis motorized infantry units of the Russian Army.
