03/14/2019. Patriarch Kirill: The more comfort there is in life, the weaker a person becomes. One of his first sermons in the first week of Great Lent, His Holiness Patriarch Cyril devoted to the topic of the fight against the vice of despondency...

In the last 3 weeks, 2 people have approached me with a request to teach them how to pray. I was a little surprised (although pleased) because I do not have any kind of clergy or religious education, so it is strange that they asked such a question to me. But in fact, these people simply did not even know who to ask such questions, and the need of the soul for prayer was ripe.

I do not own dignity and education, but I will share my experience with pleasure. My knowledge about prayer rule based on what my spiritual mentor recommended to me and on those lectures of the holy fathers that I listened to. I will try to explain everything as simply as possible. So, if you are interested in information of this kind, then welcome under cat. If you have any questions on the topic - welcome to the comments; questions about "how am I, a person with 2 higher education, I believe in aboriginal tales", please do not send :)

What do I need?
Select a corner in your home in which you will have icons. Icons should not be nailed to the wall, it is better that they stand on something (a shelf or stand). Be sure to purchase an icon of Jesus Christ and Holy Mother of God, and the faces of other saints - at will. By the way, as a rule, very kind grandmothers work in church stalls, who will gladly answer all your questions. Just come during the day, when there is no service and few people, and ask you to tell more about the icons that you like.

What is the best way to pray?
It is best to pray standing, in front of the icons, with a straight back. Place your hands in a boat near your chest. During prayer, the eyes can be kept both closed and open. FROM open eyes you will be able to see the icons, in which there is actually so much purity and light that sometimes it is simply impossible to take your eyes off. FROM eyes closed you are immersed in a certain meditation, so it is more convenient to focus on prayer. So the choice is yours. If possible, read the prayers out loud. If not, whisper. Most likely, during prayer, your mind will constantly disappear and you will think about something else. It's okay, it happens to everyone, especially at first. Just keep track of these moments and return your thoughts and heart to prayer.

When is the best time to pray?
You need to read prayers in the morning and in the evening. Take a shower in the morning, brush your teeth, and only then proceed to prayer. In the evening, it is best to read prayers before going to bed. Before reading prayers, you need to say "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit" three times and at the same time cross yourself three times. With the same words (also three times) it is necessary to end the prayer rule.

What prayers to read
There are 2 options here. The first one is complete and most correct. All prayers are read 3 times. Perhaps, at first glance, the list of prayers seems too long and the prayers themselves too, but in fact, reading all the prayers three times takes 15 minutes. The second option is a short one, mainly for those who have little time or who are just starting to pray and a large number of his prayers are somewhat frightening. It takes about 1.5 minutes. So, how much time a day to devote to prayer - half an hour or 3 minutes, everyone decides for himself. God will accept both options :)) I also highly recommend turning to God and the saints in your own words every time after prayers. You can talk about your problems and experiences, about what weighs on your heart. You can talk about dreams and ask for mercy. But remember, you can ask for anything and for anyone, but not material goods.

1 option:

  • Prayer to the Holy Trinity
  • Prayer to the Holy Spirit
  • Trisagion
  • Our Father
  • Virgin Mary, rejoice
  • Prayer Holy Cross Lord's
  • Psalm 90 ("Alive in the help of the Most High")
  • Prayer to the Guardian Angel
  • Prayer to the Mother of God
  • Prayer for the dead
  • Symbol of faith.

    Option 2:

  • Our Father - 3 times
  • Virgin Mary, rejoice - 3 times
  • Creed - 1 time.

Below is the text of all the prayers. By the way, prayers to the Guardian Angel, the Mother of God and for the departed, you can pick up others, those that you like best. A lot of them. Can be found on the Internet or in the Prayer Book (A prayer book can be bought at any church).

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

    Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

    Trisagion
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (It is read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist).
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

    Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

    Virgin Mary, rejoice
Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Gracious Mary, the Lord is with you: blessed are you in women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, as if you gave birth to our souls as the Savior.

Prayer to the Holy Cross of the Lord
(with this prayer, Father Anatoly in the film "The Island" casts out the demon from the daughter of Admiral Tikhon. Yesterday we watched it with our parents)
Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. As the smoke disappears, let them disappear; as wax melts from the face of fire, so let the demons perish from the face of those who love God, and sign the sign of the cross, and say in joy: Rejoice, Most Pure and Life-Giving Cross Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified on you, who descended into hell, and corrected the strength of the devil, and gave us His Honest Cross to drive away every adversary. O Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Lady Virgin Mother of God, and with all the saints forever. Amen.

Psalm 90 ("Alive in the help of the Most High")
Alive in the help of the Most High, in the blood of the God of Heaven will settle. The Lord says: Thou art my intercessor and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. As if He will deliver thee from the net of the hunter, and from the rebellious word, His splash will overshadow thee, and under His wings you hope: His truth will be your weapon. Do not be afraid of the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days, from the things in the darkness of the transient, from the scum, and the demon of the afternoon. A thousand will fall from your country, and darkness at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, both look at your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. As you, O Lord, are my hope, the Most High have laid down your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and the wound will not approach your body, as if by His Angel a commandment about you, save you in all your ways. They will take you in their hands, but not when you stumble your foot on a stone, step on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, and, as I know My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will crush him, and I will glorify him, I will fulfill him with long life, and I will show him My salvation.

    Prayer to the Guardian Angel
Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from God from heaven to keep. I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, and save me from all evil, guide me to a good deed and direct me to the path of salvation.

Prayer to the Mother of God
What to pray to You, what to ask of You? You see everything, you know Itself, look into my soul and give her what she needs. You, who have endured everything, overcome everything, you will understand everything. You, who raised the Child in a manger and accepted Him with Your hands from the Cross, You alone know the whole height of joy, all the oppression of grief. You, who received the whole human race as an adoption, look at me with maternal care. Lead me from the shadows of sin to Your Son. I see a tear that irrigated Your face. It's over me You shed it and let it wash away the traces of my sins. Here I have come, I am standing, I am waiting for Your response, oh Mother of God, oh All-Singing, oh Lady! I don't ask for anything, I just stand before You. Only my heart, a poor human heart, exhausted in anguish for truth, I throw at Your clean feet, Lady! May all who call upon You reach the eternal day with You and bow down before You face to face.

    For the departed
For the sake of the precious blood of Jesus, save, Heavenly Father, our dear departed and let them return to the hearth through the holy angels eternal love yours. Mother of God, Comforter of poor souls, and you, Angels and Archangels, ask for them! Give them back. Lord, for I myself cannot, for the good they have done me. In the name of Jesus - forgiveness and mercy

    Symbol of faith
I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

  • With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit.

    (Eph. 6:18).

Household affairs can only excuse a short standing in prayer, but they cannot excuse the impoverishment of inner prayer. The Lord does not want much, but at least not much, but from the heart.

It is necessary during the day to cry out to God more often from the heart in short words, judging by the need of the soul and current affairs. You start something, for example, say: bless, Lord! When you finish the job - say: glory to you, Lord, - and not only with your tongue, but also with the feeling of your heart. What passion rises - say: save, Lord, I am perishing ... But in order for the soul to cry out like that, we must first force it to turn everything to the glory of God - every one of our deeds, large and small ... With each deed, let us remember God, and remember not simply, but with apprehension, so as not to do something wrong in any case and not offend God in any way.
    But so that this, i.e. doing everything for the glory of God, the soul performed as it should;

have mercy on me short word, but it found a sea of philanthropy, because where there is mercy, there are all blessings. Even when you are outside the church, cry out and say: have mercy on me; speak, though without moving your mouth, but calling out with your mind; God hears even those who are silent. This does not require a place, but above all a spiritual mood.

When at work ... evil thoughts are chilling, leave work and lay down thirty-three bows, humbly calling on God's mercy and help.

At work and in public, try to intelligently stand before God, that is, have the memory of God that He is here. If the psalms and akathists touch you more, read them if you have time.

Not everyone can often stand for prayer during the day. But to force oneself to prayer, although mental, if in public, is possible for anyone. It is possible to begin and end every work and occupation by raising the mind to God.

Let us try, by hope and prayer, to distance ourselves from all worldly cares, but if we cannot fulfill this perfectly, then we will bring confession to God in our shortcomings, but we will in no way abandon diligence in prayer, for it is better to be reproached for frequent omission than for complete abandonment.

In the midst of your labors, be always cheerful and calm, entrusting their success to the blessing of the Lord, and be content that you have done your job.
Fulfill everything that is difficult for you as penance for your sins in the spirit of obedience and humility; in the course of your labors, say short prayers, especially the Jesus Prayer, and imagine Jesus, Who, in the sweat of His face, ate His bread, laboring with Joseph.
If your works are successful, according to the desire of your heart, then give thanks to the Lord God; if unsuccessful, then remember that God allows this too, and God does everything well.

Unceasing prayer was among the saints the so-called mental work. But this is the measure of the perfect, and we cannot even think about it. First of all, we need to try to have a constant memory of God, and then we will see that the Lord is constantly with us, that it is not He who leaves us, but we leave Him and forget Him, remembering Him only when we need to get up on the prayer rule, on our morning prayers. or evening conversation with Him. But even such a conversation will be possible only when, at other times, we constantly abide and unite with Him. To the memory of God, a short invocation should be added, pronounced from time to time: Lord, have mercy, Lord, save, or some other, depending on which prayer is closer to whom.

We must at least once a day for a few minutes put ourselves on judgment before the Lord, as if we died and on the fortieth day we stand before the Lord and wait for the saying about us, where the Lord will send us. Mentally presenting ourselves before the Lord in anticipation of judgment, let us weep and beseech the mercy of God for mercy on us, for the remission of our huge unpaid debt.

The Holy Apostle Paul said: pray without ceasing, and do everything for the glory of God, for this is pleasing and pleasing before our Savior God. To pray without ceasing does not mean standing before St. icons and pray all day, although you have to pray at a certain time. One can and should pray for every deed, as St. John Chrysostom: "You can pray while sitting at the spinning wheel and raise your mind to the God of reason, who looks at our mind and heart." So, while engaging in the business of life (without which no one can do), one can and should pray, and from the material world that is visible, perceptible to us, transfer one’s thought to the invisible name of God.
For example: looking at the fire, either in the stove, or in the stove, or in the lamp, or anywhere else, say to yourself mentally: Lord, deliver me from the eternal fire! And thus humble your thoughts.
Lying down to sleep, say to yourself mentally: Our Lord and God did not have anywhere to bow his head, but he gave us every comfort.
When you wake up, cross yourself, and when you get up from sleep, say to yourself: Glory to Thee, who showed us the light!
You begin to put on shoes, say mentally: Lord bless, Lord help!
When you get dressed, say to yourself (mentally): Lord, enlighten the garment of my soul and save me!
When you start to wash yourself, be sure to cross yourself to drive away the enemy action, which comes through the watery nature ...
And when despondency or hardening of the heart attacks us, preventing us from praying, then, in order to drive away such a demonic temptation, we must say to ourselves: Lord, I have neither compunction, nor zeal, nor contrition to pray to You worthily!
After such contrition of the heart, God will give God-pleasing and saving prayer, since God will not humiliate the contrite and humble heart, i.e. will not leave without help.

Do not start any work, the smallest and most insignificant, until you call on God to help you. The Lord spoke: "Without Me you can do nothing," i.e. lower to say, lower to think. In other words: without Me you have no right to do any good deed!
Therefore, it is necessary to call on the grace-filled help of God, either in words or mentally: Lord, bless! God help me! Without God's help we cannot do anything useful and saving; and if we do something without asking for the grace-filled help of God for our work, then by doing this we only reveal our spiritual pride and resist God.

As soon as you notice in yourself (in the light of conscience and the law of God) - the sin of the mind, word, thought, or some sinful passion or habit that fights you at any time and place - immediately repent to God (even mentally): Lord, forgive and help! (i.e. forgive me for offending You and help me not to offend Your greatness). These three words - Lord, forgive and help, should be pronounced slowly and several times, or rather, until you breathe; a sigh means the coming of the grace of the Holy Spirit, who has forgiven us the sin for which we this moment we repent to God. Then any demonic action in our thoughts and especially in our imagination falls away from us.
If the demonic action comes again, again make a prayer of repentance; this is the only way a person will achieve purity of heart and peace of mind.
Before going to bed, you need to think: how was the day spent? Remember where you were, what you saw, what you said, and what evil you did: against God, against your neighbor, and against your own conscience.
And if you see something sinful, then repent to God for the whole day, and if you don’t see it, you don’t remember anything, this does not mean that nothing happened, but it means that due to distraction of thoughts everything is forgotten; then one must repent to God for the very forgetfulness of God, saying to oneself: I forgot You, Lord! Alas for me! Do not forget me, Lord, who forgets You! And these words must be expressed (even mentally) several times in a drawling tone, because with such a tone, and not with a patter, there is a contrite and humble heart; then a sigh will turn out, as a sign of the coming to us of the grace of the Holy Spirit, without which a person in itself is nothing! If the Lord does not build a spiritual home, we labor in vain, sings the Holy Church.

    Answers on questions

Where can you pray to God?

At home, they read home prayers (morning, evening, before or after eating food). With the blessing of the priest, morning prayers can be read on the way to work. In the office, you can pray before the start and at the end of the working day.

During worship services in the temple, believers together perform a public (otherwise - church) prayer.

To pray alone in the temple, you need to come outside of worship, purchase and light candles. It is not necessary to light them: the ministers will light them before the start of the service. Then you need to venerate the icon of the day or holiday - it lies on a lectern (a special inclined table) in the middle of the temple - as well as to the shrines that may be in the temple: revered icons, relics of saints. After that, you can find a place to read to yourself (in a whisper) any prayer that you know by heart, or pray in your own words.

Prayer is a time dedicated to God. This time should be every day.

    • in the morning,
    • in the evening,
    • before meals and after
    • before and after the completion of any business (for example, work or study)
    • in order to first ask God for blessings, and in the end to thank Him.

In addition, it is important to attend the Liturgy in the church weekly to perform church prayer and receive Holy Communion. If necessary, in case of special needs or life circumstances, you can turn to private prayer (at home in front of the icons or in the church between services) to the saints or heavenly powers so that they intercede for the one who is praying before the Lord.

In ancient monasteries, nine long services were performed per day, and between them, the monks alone read psalms or said the Jesus Prayer. Night was considered a particularly fertile time for solitary prayer.

Modern laity in the morning at home perform the morning prayer rule, in the evening, upon returning home, the evening rule. If a person is weak or has little time, then instead of the morning and evening rules, he can read the short rule of St. Seraphim of Sarov during the day.

It is advisable to discuss the duration of morning and evening prayers with the priest, with whom the parishioner confesses constantly.

Saturday night and the day before church holidays should visit all-night vigil in the temple, and in the morning on Sundays and holidays - the Liturgy.

During Great Lent they go to church more often to pray: in the first four days they try not to miss evening services- they serve Great Compline with the Canon of Andrew of Crete. You should also try to attend as many services as possible during the Holy Week preceding the Easter holiday. During Holy Week Liturgy is served daily, and believers strive to visit it in order to partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ not only on Sunday, but also on a weekday.

    Morning prayer time

Morning prayers are read at home, immediately upon awakening. Waking up, you need to stand in front of the icons and start reading prayers by heart or according to the prayer book.

    Evening Prayer Time

Evening prayers are read at home at the end of the day or before bed. The evening rule is not recommended to be postponed until later, because the later, the stronger the fatigue and the more difficult it is to concentrate.

Just before going to bed, already lying in bed, they say: “In Your hands, Lord my God, I betray my spirit, You save me, You have mercy on me and grant me eternal life.”

    Prayer all day long

The Orthodox Church does not set a strict time for prayers. We must strive to pray constantly. First of all, this means constantly remembering God and from time to time, if possible, turning to Him during the day with short prayers (for example, the Jesus prayer “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner” or a short thanksgiving prayer “Glory To Thee, our God, glory to Thee!”).

    Continuous prayer

You can read short prayers continuously throughout the day, repeating the same prayer many times in a row and counting the number of repetitions with a rosary. This is usually how the Jesus Prayer is read. However, for such a prayer it is necessary to take the blessing of the priest, and the number of repetitions is strictly regulated.

There are many restrictions on continuous prayer, it cannot be read uncontrollably.

St. Ambrose of Optina ordered his spiritual children to read the Jesus Prayer only aloud, because reading to oneself can cause strong emotional sensations and lead to falling into delusion. Charm means self-deception, up to mental insanity.

Duration prayers are not governed by rules.

    • The most important thing is the focus on prayer, not its duration or number of prayers.
    • You need to pray slowly, thinking about every word.
    • The number of prayers should correspond to the time that we can devote to them.

The Lord said “I want mercy, not sacrifice” (Mt. 9:13), therefore, if there is a lack of time or severe fatigue, it is permissible to shorten the prayer rule in order to read it with concentration.

    Powerful Prayer of the Day

It is very good to start the day with this prayer!

Lord, give me peace of mind meet whatever the coming day brings me. Let me completely surrender to Your holy will. For every hour of this day, instruct and support me in everything. Whatever news I receive during the day, teach me to accept it with a calm soul and firm conviction that everything is Thy holy will.

In all my words and deeds guide my thoughts and feelings. In all unforeseen cases, do not let me forget that everything is sent down by You.

Teach me to act directly and reasonably with each member of my family, without embarrassing or upsetting anyone. Lord, give me the strength to endure the fatigue of the coming day and all the events during the day. Guide my will and teach me to pray, believe, hope, endure, forgive and love. Amen.

Sincere faith will contribute to the fulfillment of the most secret desires during the day. By reading such a prayer regularly, you will help improve the life of your own and those of your loved ones, dear people.

How to pray during the day?

With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit.

    But so that this, i.e. doing everything for the glory of God, the soul performed as it should;

Fulfill everything that is difficult for you as penance for your sins in the spirit of obedience and humility; in the course of your labors, say short prayers, especially the Jesus Prayer, and imagine Jesus, Who, in the sweat of His face, ate His bread, laboring with Joseph.

So, prayer for an Orthodox Christian is a conversation, communication with God. Turning to the Lord in prayer is the need of the soul of a believer, not without reason the holy fathers called prayer the breath of the soul.

In fulfilling the daily rule of prayer, two things must be remembered.

First . That is why daily prayer is called rule, which is mandatory. Every Orthodox Christian prays in the morning and before bedtime; he prays and before eating, a after meal thanks God. Christians pray before starting any business(work, study, etc.) and upon completion. Before starting work, a prayer is read “To the King of Heaven. ” or special prayers at the beginning of every business. At the end of the case, the prayer to the Mother of God “It is worthy to eat” is usually read. All these prayers are contained in the Orthodox Prayer Book.

So in the prayer life there should be regularity and discipline. The daily prayer rule cannot be skipped and pray only when you want and there is a mood. A Christian is a warrior of Christ, in baptism he takes an oath of allegiance to the Lord. The life of every warrior, soldier is called service. It is built according to a special order and charter. And Orthodox person also carries out its service, making a prayer rule. This service to God takes place according to the statutes of the Church.

Second , which should be remembered when fulfilling the rule: you cannot turn daily prayer into a formal reading of the prescribed prayers. It happens that a priest in confession has to hear: “I began to read the morning prayers and only in the middle I realized that I was reading the evening rule.” So the reading was purely formal, mechanical. It does not produce spiritual fruit. So that the fulfillment of the rule does not turn into a formal proofreading, you need to read it slowly, better aloud or in an undertone, pondering the meaning of the prayer, standing reverently - after all, we stand before God Himself and talk with Him. If you are going to pray, you need to gather yourself, calm down, drive away all worldly thoughts and cares. If during the reading of prayers inattention and extraneous thoughts came and we stopped paying attention to what we read, we need to stop and start reading the prayer again, already with due attention.

It can be difficult for a new beginning Christian to immediately read a complete prayer rule. Then, with the blessing of his spiritual father or parish priest, he can choose from the Prayer Book at least a few morning and evening prayers. For example, three or four, and pray according to this abbreviated rule, gradually adding one prayer from the Prayer Book - as if ascending "from strength to strength."

Of course, it is not easy for a person taking the first steps in spiritual life to fulfill the complete rule. He still doesn't understand much. The Church Slavonic text is still difficult for him to understand. Should be purchased small dictionary Church Slavonic words in order to better understand the meaning of the texts being read. Understanding and skill in prayer will definitely come with time if a person sincerely wants to understand what he has read and does not stand still in his prayer life.

AT morning prayers Oh, Christians ask God for a blessing for the day to come and thank Him for the past night. Evening prayers prepare us for sleep, and are also a confession of the sins of the past day. In addition to the morning and evening rules, an Orthodox person throughout the day must keep the memory of God and mentally turn to Him. You can't do anything without me, says the Lord (Jn 15:5). Every business, even the simplest, must begin with at least short prayer about God's help in our labors.

Too many mothers of babies complain that they have no time at all for the daily rule. Indeed, when a child grows and needs to be taken care of day and night, it is very difficult to fulfill a complete prayer rule. Here we can advise you to constantly do inner prayer during the day and ask God for help in all your affairs and worries. This applies not only to the mother of young children, but to any Orthodox Christian. Thus, our life will pass with constant remembrance of God and we will not forget Him in the vanity of the world.

Prayers are divided into pleading, penitential, grateful and glorifying. Of course, we must not only turn to the Lord with requests, but we must constantly thank Him for His countless benefits. And, most importantly, they should be able to see the gifts of God in their lives and appreciate them. It is necessary to make it a rule: at the end of the day, remember all the good things that were sent from God on the past day, and read thanksgiving prayers. They are in any complete Prayer Book.

In addition to the obligatory prayer rule, every Orthodox person can also take on a special rule. For example, read canons, akathists during the day. The peculiarity of the construction of the akathist is in the word “rejoice” repeated many times. Therefore, he is distinguished by a special joyful mood. In ancient times in the spiritual life of a Christian special place occupied the daily reading of the psalms.

Reading canons, akathists, psalms helps in mournful or difficult periods of life. For example, the prayer canon to the Theotokos (it is in the Prayer Book) reads in every sorrow of soul and circumstance, as its very name says. If a Christian wants to take on a special prayer rule (reading the canons or, for example, saying the Jesus Prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner” with the rosary), he must take the blessing of his spiritual father or parish priest for this.

In addition to a constant prayer rule, a Christian should regularly read the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament.

You can hear the following opinion: why turn to God so often with your requests, prayers? The Lord already knows what we need. They say that you need to turn to God only in special occasions when it's really needed.

Such an opinion is just an excuse for their own laziness. God is our Heavenly Father, and like any Father, He wants His children to communicate with Him, to turn to Him. Both God's grace and mercy towards us can never fail, no matter how much we turn to God.

In the house of rich people, they stopped praying before meals. One day a priest came to visit them. The table was exquisite, and the best dishes were served. We sat at the table. Everyone looked at the priest and thought that now he would pray before eating. But the priest said: "The owner must pray at the table, he is the first prayer book in the family."

There was an awkward silence: no one in this family prayed. The father cleared his throat and said: “You know, dear father, we don’t pray, because in prayer before meals, the same thing is always repeated. Why do the same thing every day, every year? No, we don't pray." The priest looked at everyone in surprise, but then the seven-year-old girl said: “Dad, don’t I need to come to you every morning and say good morning?”

    Prayer during the day read

Is it possible to read different short prayers during the day?

Where, when and for how long should you pray?

Where can you pray to God?

How many times a day should the Orthodox pray?

Reading time Orthodox prayers in church and at home

How long should a prayer be?

In everything that concerns prayer and a pious life, the Lord Jesus Christ, the apostles and saints can serve as an example for us. It is written in the Gospel that Christ prayed in solitude for several hours and even during the whole night. The Apostle Paul urged to pray without ceasing, that is, all the time. Is there a limit to the length of the prayer?

Where can you pray to God?

You can turn to God in prayer almost everywhere:

in the temple domats, where they take food at work and even on the road

At home, they read home prayers (morning, evening, before or after eating food). With the blessing of the priest, morning.

Saint Ignatius (Bryanchaninov) wrote in his Teaching on the Rule of Prayer: “The rule! What an exact name, borrowed from the very action produced on a person by prayers, called the rule! The rule of prayer directs the soul correctly and holily, teaches it to worship God in Spirit and Truth (John 4:23), while the soul, being left to itself, could not follow the right path of prayer. Because of her injury and darkening by sin, she would incessantly turn aside, often into an abyss, now into absent-mindedness, now into daydreaming, then into various empty and deceptive phantoms of high prayerful states composed by her vanity and voluptuousness.

The prayer rules keep the worshiper in a saving disposition, humility and repentance, teaching him unceasing self-condemnation, nourishing him with compunction, strengthening him with hope for.

In the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the city of Pokrovsk (Engels), the first conversation of the Bishop of Pokrovsky and Nikolaev Pachomius with the parishioners took place this year. We bring to your attention some of the questions and answers that sounded at it.

Prayer is the free appeal of the human soul to God. How to correlate this freedom with the obligation to read the rule even when you clearly do not want to do this?

Freedom is not permissiveness. A person is so arranged that if he allows himself an indulgence, it can be very difficult to return to the previous state. There are many examples in hagiographic literature when ascetics abandoned their prayer rule in order to show love to the brothers who came. Thus, they placed the commandment of love above their prayer rule. But it should be remembered that these people reached extraordinary heights of spiritual life, they were unceasingly in prayer. When we feel that we do not want to pray, this is a banal temptation, not a manifestation.

    PRAYERS DURING THE DAY

“We must rediscover the power of prayer: to pray is to draw near to Him whom we call, whom we meet, by whom we live. The experience of prayer is the acceptance of the grace that transforms us. The Spirit given to our human spirit obliges us to live as the Word of God teaches. To pray means to engage in the action of God in history: He, the Lord of history, was pleased to make people His co-workers.

These are questions encountered in the practice of parish counseling, which are asked by people who rarely come to church or who are just starting church life, and answers that are understandable for a person with little church.

Some of the questions are answered by quotes from Holy Scripture to show counselors a guideline for their answers, and for churchgoers - the main source of doctrinal knowledge. Consultants are not recommended to answer questions with memorized quotes, but if necessary, based on the situation, you can back up the answer with the authority of the Holy Scriptures.

It should also be remembered that some questions do not have unambiguous answers. Based on the spiritual state of the questioner and the established tradition in the parish, different answers can be given to the same question.

In ecclesiastical knowledge it is necessary to distinguish:

    dogmas - the truths of Christian teaching, the truths of faith, deviation from which no one is allowed, as it leads to heresy;

In your case, perhaps this will be a lesser evil than not reading morning prayers at all. But, nevertheless, I would like to advise you to pray in the morning, and take as a basis, for example, the rule of Seraphim of Sarov, which consists of prayers that are very easy to remember. It will not be difficult for you and you can pray whenever you want.

The Monk Seraphim of Sarov taught everyone the following rule of prayer:

“Rising from sleep, every Christian, standing before the holy icons, let him read the Lord’s Prayer “Our Father” three times, in honor of the Most Holy Trinity, then the hymn to the Theotokos “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice” three times and, finally, the Symbol of Faith once.

Having made this rule, let him go about his business, for which he was appointed or called. While working at home or on the way somewhere, let him quietly read: “Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The prayer rules keep the worshiper in a saving disposition, humility and repentance, teaching him unceasing self-condemnation, nourishing him with compunction, strengthening him with hope in the All-Good and All-Merciful God, amusing him with the peace of Christ, love for God and for neighbors. From these words of the saint it is clear that it is very salutary.

Daily morning and evening prayers for a Christian. Their texts can be found in the prayer book.

The rule can be general - obligatory for all or individual, selected for the believer by the confessor, taking into account his spiritual state, strength and employment.

Consists of morning and evening prayers, which are performed daily. This vital rhythm is necessary, because otherwise the soul easily falls out of the life of prayer, as if waking up only from time to time. In prayer, as in any big and difficult task, "inspiration", "mood" and improvisation alone are not enough.

Reading prayers connects a person with their creators: psalmists and ascetics. This helps to find a spiritual mood akin to their burning heart. In praying in other people's words, our example is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. His prayer exclamations during the suffering on the Cross are lines from psalms (Ps. 21:2; 30:6).

    There are three main prayers.

What causes mental fatigue? Can a soul be empty?

Why can't it? If there is no prayer, it will be both empty and tired. The Holy Fathers do the following. A person is tired, he has no strength to pray, he says to himself: “Maybe your fatigue is from demons”, gets up and prays. And the man has strength. So the Lord did. In order for the soul not to be empty and to have strength, one must accustom oneself to the Jesus Prayer - “Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner (or a sinner).”

How to spend a day like God?

In the morning, when we are still resting, they are already standing near our bed - an angel on the right side, and a demon on the left. They are waiting for whom we will begin to serve on this day. And this is how you start the day. Waking up, immediately protect yourself with the sign of the cross and jump out of bed so that laziness remains under the covers, and we find ourselves in a holy corner. Then do three bow to the ground and turn to the Lord with these words: “Lord, I thank You for the past night.

My knowledge of the prayer rule is based on what my spiritual mentor recommended to me and on those lectures of the holy fathers that I listened to. I will try to explain everything as simply as possible. So, if you are interested in information of this kind, then welcome under cat. If you have any questions on the topic - welcome to the comments; questions about “how I, a person with 2 higher educations, believe in aboriginal fairy tales”, please do not send :)

    What do I need?

Select a corner in your home in which you will have icons.

Short Morning and Evening Prayers are short prayers that anyone can say, and when sincerely said, they have exceptional power.

People often ask: how should one pray, with what words, in what language? Some even say: “I don’t pray because I don’t know how, I don’t know prayers.” Prayer does not require any special skill. You can just talk to God. At worship in Orthodox Church we use a special language - Church Slavonic. But in private prayer, when we are alone with God, there is no need for any special language. We can pray to God in the language in which we speak with people, in which we think.

Prayer should be very simple. The Monk Isaac the Syrian said: “Let the whole fabric of your prayer be simple. One word of the publican saved him, and one word of the thief on the cross made him heir to the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Let us recall the parable of the publican and the Pharisee: “Two men went into the temple to pray: one Pharisee and the other.

The person constantly delivers an internal monologue, and sometimes violently argues with an imaginary opponent. He is torn apart by conflicting feelings, oppressed by the need to make decisions. Vain thoughts, big problems and small things, the flow of daily, endless worries. And it already seems that no one can help, and life passes by, and nothing good awaits ahead. And then we suddenly remember that we also have someone to turn to, someone to hope for and from whom to expect help.

It’s better, after all, not to wait for a special mood, failure, God forbid, misfortune, but to know the prayers for every day and read them regularly.

Daily church attendance is almost impossible for a modern, active, working person, but everyone can read prayers in the morning, entrusting their fate into the hands of God. Church rank suggests that full reading daily prayer for each day takes at least 40 minutes. Not everyone can afford it, and besides, there are difficulties in understanding.

Good afternoon, young reader! Are you ready to leave the house? Wait a minute! You have not done the most important thing, and I am very worried about you. Cars scurry about on the street, people meet who can offend you, hundreds of dangers lie in wait at every step, and you did not pray to God before leaving! How many worries do you have kindergarten Or, if you are already studying, at school? Are you hoping to handle everything on your own?

Do you want this day to be really kind, and also useful and saving for you? So that every matter can be argued in your hands? So that trouble does not happen to you, and if trouble does happen, would it be like a summer rain that quickly passed?

Then learn before leaving the house and before the beginning of each work to be blessed by God with these words: “Lord, bless!”

And after finishing the work and returning home, thank Him like this: “Glory to Thee, Lord!”

Memorize or read from the prayer book prayers suitable for certain matters during the day. And if you call on the Lord with faith, He will certainly hear you and help you.
