How to become a flight attendant

The work of a flight attendant is a dream for someone, someone has a profession that is passed down through the maternal line from generation to generation. For me it all happened spontaneously. I used to work professionally athletics, but decided to get an education in a law college. My specialty is a lawyer. After college, she entered the law academy by correspondence. I had acquaintances of female flight attendants who offered me to try myself while I was studying in absentia. I applied to the School of conductors in Sheremetyevo. Everyone can enter the school, and its completion is mandatory for a flight attendant, because certificates are issued based on its results.

There I was given a referral to the medical board. It was necessary to pass tests, go through ordinary doctors and additional specialists - a surgeon, a dermatologist and others. Everything was checked - from the tips of the fingers to the tips of the hair. The training lasted approximately two and a half months. At the initial training, they do not teach how to work on all types of aircraft, someone additionally studies at their own expense, so that later they can get a better job at an airline. I learned to work on the Boeing 757 additionally so that I would have an advantage. Sometimes such training is carried out at the expense of the company when it purchases new aircraft: without the appropriate certificates, we are not allowed to fly. After that, I began to choose an airline: I submitted questionnaires, went to interviews. Then I was 21 years old, and now I have been working in aviation for the third year.

The first job was a well-known charter airline. At first, I had to work under a contract for six months. But since the crisis came, the contracts for me and other flight attendants were not extended - only about 100 people were left without work. After two months of searching, I found out that another charter airline would be hiring flight attendants. I sent in an application, went through an interview, and got hired.

I came to the interview in a shirt, a classic skirt with a small heel, made a bun and soft makeup so that the image was immediately visible. At the interview, of course, they first look at appearance. Then they ask about motivation, evaluate the ability to communicate, knowledge elementary rules etiquette and English. Many companies try to take young people and girls, but they take people 30-plus years old. When I first got a job in a company, a woman of about 34–35 years old came to work with me. But since outwardly she was quite good - well-groomed and everything is in order with health - they naturally took her. There are flight attendants who fly up to 50-60 years. The main thing is that appearance and health allow.

In our work, the main responsibility is to ensure the safety of passengers. We gather two hours before the flight, the senior flight attendant checks our documents, then we go through the doctor (this happens only in Russia). We measure the pressure, feel the pulse, ask when the last flight was (it is necessary that at least 12 hours pass between flights). After passing the doctor comes working time. We are going with the brigade to the pre-flight briefing. On it, they get to know each other, with the foreman, because the crews are constantly changing. We must answer correctly. If the senior flight attendant is satisfied with our answers, we pass the border (mostly foreign flights) and go to the plane. There, preparations for the flight itself are already beginning: we are completely inspecting the entire aircraft - every seat, every fire extinguisher, every mask, every window. Then we accept household equipment and food, so that the plane is fully prepared for departure. As soon as the plane is ready, we begin to meet passengers.

Our uniform is red-blue, very beautiful. It was sewn for us by a famous designer from Turkey. Everything must be properly tied and fastened. When people do not understand the warnings, a report is made to the commander, who makes the decision. We try to calm the screaming children. For example, I love children very much. And on the flight, even if there are a lot of them, I try to give at least a minute to each passenger with a child. Usually people are happy.

There is no fixed number of flights per month, there is a number of working hours. 80 hours is the standard that we can meet so that there is no "over-flight". A month usually turns out 60-80 hours - this is the time in flight, working hours are also added to it. For example, I fly to Tunisia, fly there and rest for 14-15 hours. After that, I fly back and stay at home from 12 hours to two or three days. We have a website where we look at flight plans. Where someone will fly also depends on the availability of documents - visas and insurance of a certain type. During my work, I have visited 15 countries for sure.

On a business trip, it all depends on how long we will be there. If we flew, for example, to Vietnam, then before the flight back we will be there for two or three days. Naturally, at first we sleep, because the body gets tired. We are provided with a hotel and meals. After sleep, we can go to the beach, the market, shopping or see the city with the whole team or with individual colleagues. Exists strict rule: It is forbidden to leave the hotel after 9-10 pm. He does it for the sake of safety: another country, other rules, other people. I haven't been everywhere yet, but I really like Greece, Dominican Republic, Spain, Turkey.

We are given a vacation of about two months. Soon there will be the first vacation for the entire time of my work, since before that all my vacations were spent on passing sessions at the academy.
