Domestic macaque. Touching exotic: a monkey in the house

Considering that the year 2016 has begun is the year of the Red Monkey, it is not surprising that many fans of exotic creatures in their home are thinking about getting ... no, not, and not even, namely a monkey in their home. But, before they confirm their decision, and go in search of such a really unusual for our latitudes pet- we invite you to know all about keeping monkeys at home. You may not get a monkey, but you will learn a lot interesting facts about these creatures...

Is it possible to keep monkeys at home

A monkey is not a cat or a dog, but a wild creature, and in order to adapt it for living at home, it needs to create certain and comfortable conditions for it, find out in advance what you can and should feed such a pet, and how to care for it. him. If you can provide the monkey with all this, then it will be able to become a full member of your family, if not, your cohabitation will turn out to be a torment for both you and it. Therefore, in many ways, the answer to the question of whether it is possible to start a monkey at home or not depends on your capabilities.

What monkeys can be kept at home

Like cats and dogs, monkeys have different breeds. And, not all of them are suitable for home keeping. According to experts, it is preferable to have monkeys of the breed in the house. javan monkey or rhesus. Why it is impossible to start monkeys of other breeds - although, outwardly, they may not differ much from the representatives of the recommended breeds above, in fact, it turns out that, for example,

Ceylon or Japanese macaques are in poor health and often get sick in captivity, while they are somewhat violent, unlike Javanese macaques, which are calmer.

These practical points in the process of communication with primates are very important, and they should be paid attention to. Therefore, it is about these 2 breeds that we will tell in more detail today ...

By the way, the cost of a Javan macaque in Russia ranges from 50 to 180 thousand rubles, but the cost of a rhesus macaque is slightly lower, up to about 90 thousand Russian rubles. As you can see, the money is not small ...

Description of the rhesus macaque monkey breed

Rhesus macaques are known to specialists under another name - bunders. Adults reach the size of a dog breed, and their weight is 3.5 kilograms. The coat of the animal is brownish-yellow, and bright red growths can be found in the area of \u200b\u200bthe seat of the macaque.

In conditions wildlife these monkeys live in families that are more like tribes. So, the number of monkeys in such big family may be 150 individuals. The head of the family is the leader, and if for some reason he is absent, conflicts are observed within the family, accompanied by loud screams, squeaks, growls. This is how monkeys express their emotions.

Macaques reach sexual maturity at 2.5-3 years, while females have a reproductive function up to 18-22 years, after which they lose the ability to reproduce offspring. Pregnancy in females lasts 165 days, and 1-2 cubs are born at a time, weighing from 300 to 650 grams. Up to 12 months, the monkey feeds the cubs with milk, and then transfers to an adult diet. However, next to the mother, children are up to 6 years old and older until they create their own families.

For those who want to keep rhesus monkeys at home, it is worth considering a few important points -

you need to buy a small individual, since an adult macaque may not adapt to new conditions, and never become tame.

A negative feature of rhesus monkeys in some cases is a quarrelsome and angry character.

With such a pet, you need to communicate a lot, adjusting to the situation - sometimes you need to be affectionate with him, and sometimes strictness will not hurt. At proper upbringing, you can teach the monkey not only tricks, but also the rules of behavior, and you will have it cultured and well-mannered. By the way, it is rhesus macaques who most often perform in circuses, dance to music and perform funny tricks.

Javanese macaques are also called macaques crabeaters, however, do not think that this breed of monkeys feeds exclusively on crabs. This is not true. The coat of these animals is brown in the upper part of the body, and gray towards the lower part of the body. At the same time, according to the variety of color, 2 types of this breed of monkeys can be distinguished. In the first species, the coat is yellow-brown, while in the second it is darker, and the skin on the face of the monkeys is black. The growth of an adult Javan macaque reaches 60 centimeters, the weight of an adult male is from 4 to 8 kilograms, and the female is from 2.7 to 3.8 kilograms.

These creatures are quite unpretentious in matters of maintenance and feeding, therefore, they are often started at home. AT southern regions they can be kept in an aviary or in an insulated barn. They quickly get used to the person and become tame. True, you should not lose your vigilance, there are quite a few cases when Javanese macaques abruptly changed their line of behavior and became so aggressive that they could bite their owner. So, they should be trusted, but remember that you are not dealing with a faithful dog, but with a cunning monkey.

Keeping monkeys at home

After we got acquainted with the 2 breeds of monkeys that are most suitable for home keeping, we suggest moving on to the practical aspects of living together with them under the same roof.

Remember the main rule no matter what breed you have purchased a monkey, and what size it is, you must keep it in a spacious metal cage or in an aviary. You can also arrange an indoor aviary for her and fence off part of the room with a dense metal mesh. Such precautions are necessary to ensure that your monkey does not harm you or itself.

Since monkeys are very mobile creatures, the dimensions of the cage or enclosure must be such that the animal can move freely there, run and jump. In order to facilitate the cleaning process in the cage, it is better to install a metal tray below, you can pour large chips or clean river sand on its bottom. Do not use paper or newspapers as filler. The macaque will tear them apart.

In order for the dexterous, cunning and strong macaque not to escape from its cage, it is better to choose nickel-plated options, all-metal, welded from a thick mesh. As experience shows, it's easier for a macaque to spin a prefabricated cage on screws, disassemble the entire structure and break free. It's just a matter of time. So, do not forget about the precautions to protect both yourself and your exotic pet from possible troubles.

If you have the opportunity, you can keep the monkey not in a cage, but in an aviary - this option is ideal for the summer time somewhere in the country. The size of the aviary must be at least 9 square meters, from the foundations, and a metal mesh should be stretched over the frame of the beams, with a section of 2 by 2 centimeters for small primates, and 5 by 5 centimeters for large macaques. The mesh is stretched from 3 sides, while the 4th side of the enclosure is tightly adjacent to the wall. In order for the animal not to be constantly under the scorching rays of the sun and not to get wet in the rain, it is necessary to make a 1-2-pitched roof, cover it with roofing material on top. The door to such an aviary is made high so that you can pass through it without bending over.

Inside the enclosure, you can install perches and shelves on which the primate will rest. You can place a processed tree frame - the macaque will climb on it, entertain itself and you.

If you hang a mirror in an aviary or in a cage, then the monkey will spend hours in front of it, grimacing. However, make sure that the mirror is securely fastened, as if the monkey drops it and breaks it, it can injure itself with fragments.

Of course, inside the cage or enclosure there should be drinking bowls, food bowls, a bath of water, toys for the monkey ...

walks around the house

During your walks around the house (and, you can let the monkey out of the cage when you tame it), you will have the opportunity to observe the destructive power and irrepressible curiosity of primates. A prankster or a prankster can tear things, spoil books, turn over an aquarium, open taps, run Appliances… At the same time, she will do it faster than you will try to eliminate the consequences of her walk. Therefore, in no case do not leave the monkey unattended, and take care in advance that during walks it does not come across valuable and important objects and things for you.

Some owners, if the premises allow them, set aside an entire room for the monkey to walk around. There is nothing in it that the monkey can break, tear or destroy. At the same time, the animal feels free and relaxed there.

Special conditions for detention

Since macaques are heat-loving creatures, in the room where their cage or aviary stands, and where they walk, the air temperature should not be lower than +22 degrees above zero Celsius, the room should be light and dry. Considering that macaques are very noisy creatures, and their screams can disturb both you and your neighbors, it doesn’t hurt to worry about additional soundproofing.

Cats and dogs are without a doubt the most popular pets. But not only they can be found in the apartments of ordinary Ukrainian families. A craving for the exotic, a desire to stand out or have a piece of wildlife in your home, or maybe an endless and devoted love for monkeys motivates people to get such unusual pets. There is nothing wrong with this, but before you make a primate a member of your family, you need to make sure that you are ready for his lifestyle.

What monkeys can be kept at home?

Those that weigh up to 3 kilograms. Larger individuals can be dangerous - their teeth are rather big, and their character is peculiar. That's why pygmy marmosets, saimiri and red-handed tamarins are the most suitable options. Naturally, some contain both monkeys and vervets, they lend themselves better to education, it’s more interesting with them, and you can tame them, but the likelihood of becoming the object of their aggression is much higher than in the case of the same marmosets.

How and where does the monkey live?

The whole day the monkey can jump around the apartment, jump from high furniture to lower furniture, climb on you, on the computer, curtains, it is likely that it won’t even spoil anything, but when it’s time to sleep, she wants to retire in her aviary. He must be hers. There the pet will eat and rest.

Naturally, it is in your power to make sure that the primate spends all the time in the enclosure, but this will not make anyone feel better: firstly, why do you need a monkey as a pet if you only look at it through the bars; secondly, remember how these animals love to jump, and in a modest aviary they are unlikely to be able to accelerate - there is already either building monkey mansions in the apartment, or allowing the pet to run outside the cage.

By the way, it’s not worth worrying that such a small creature will fall off the table - they don’t take away the skill to deftly jump from one surface to another, they are far from stupid animals, therefore they can take care of their safety. But you will have to take care that they do not find any pills, sharp objects and other potential threats in the open spaces of your home.

What to feed such a pet?

There is a rule in primatology: the smaller the monkey, the more insects it needs. But only they will not be full of primacy. Therefore, his diet can be diluted with fruits and even cereals, and served in three doses:

1. Breakfast: porridge based baby food, with the addition of, for example, eggs.

2. Lunch: zoobuses or crickets.

3. Dinner: fruits and vegetables cut into small pieces. It can be bananas, strawberries, cucumbers, apples, carrots, herbs, oranges, and more. But citrus fruits must be present in the diet, because monkeys, like people, do not synthesize vitamin C and get it only from food.

Thus, you can get a decent balanced diet with carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, as well as fiber and such essential vitamins. The body of monkeys is very similar to ours, because the diseases associated with malnutrition they are also familiar with. The main thing is balance.

Important "buts"

There is nothing difficult in caring for monkeys. This is true. However, this is not a reason to rush to the store for small primates. The fact is that the maintenance of such animals is associated with some nuances, which the owners often learn about, having already acquired a pet.

1. The issue of training. Have you ever seen a trained marmoset in a circus? And we didn't meet. As a rule, macaques become stars there. different types- They are pretty easy to train. And to teach or tame, for example, saimiri is more difficult.

2. "Toilet" question. Yes, there will be few waste products from one monkey, like from a small bird, but they will be everywhere. Explaining to such a pet that you need to go to the toilet in a certain place is difficult (see point one).

3. "Painful" question. From its owner, a monkey can pick up many diseases, ranging from the usual SARS to rubella. It is not for nothing that in some zoos such animals are kept behind glass - one of the visitors will sneeze, in a few hours the animal will also do it.

It is almost impossible to catch some kind of infection from a pet if it was born and raised in captivity. From a monkey living in the wild, easily, but only which of us is in contact with it? Returning to the question of whether you can infect a pet: before you buy a monkey, think carefully about whether you can isolate it for a while if, God forbid, you get sick with something.

The conclusion is this: a monkey at home is definitely fun and unusual, but the animal will smell the way he wants, go to the toilet where he wants, behave the way he wants. This is not a call to kill the desire to have such a pet in yourself, this is an occasion to think about whether you really need it. After all, you don’t want to buy a little animal, and then you don’t want to be absolutely sincerely surprised by its “surprises”.

In our opinion, this is an absolutely sound and responsible approach to keeping animals: before you buy someone, it is better to honestly admit to yourself about the desire and ability to put up with all its features.

Many exotic animals become residents ordinary apartments and homes, filling them with joy and fun. So do miniature marmoset monkeys with proper care and content long years will entertain and give positive emotions to their owners.

Marmosets: content

Domestic marmoset monkeys, whose maintenance is not as simple as it seems, are primarily social animals, so they must be kept in pairs. For keeping marmosets in an apartment, a spacious cage of small rods or a terrarium is suitable, which maintains a constant temperature and humidity. If the area of \u200b\u200ban apartment or house allows, then monkeys can be kept in an aviary. The place of their maintenance must be decorated with branches, sticks, artificial plants, ladders and ropes. It is also necessary to put a place for the shelter of the animal - a wooden house with warm bedding and 2 feeders, and 1 drinker.

Decor elements must be periodically washed with boiled water and simple soap and rinsed well. Do not use aggressive detergents for washing, as marmosets gnaw on objects and can be poisoned by unwashed residues of substances.

At the bottom of the cage or aviary, it is necessary to lay baby diapers or processed flaps made of natural fabrics, change them once a day. For cages that have a tray, you can use a filler without a strong odor, which must be changed every 4 days.

Marmosets need humid climate, therefore, with their content, you need to install a humidifier and set it to 60%. Temperature regime fluctuates between 25-290C, it is advisable to install a lamp on top for additional heating.

It is necessary to exclude drafts, so next to them there should not be open windows and air conditioner.

Food

Small pet monkey She will always be healthy if her diet is balanced and consists of: fruits, vegetables, cereals, protein foods (insects, eggs). Fruits that can be fed: ripe apples, pears, bananas, pitted cherries and grapes, kiwi, mangoes, watermelons and melons; vegetables: lettuce, cabbage, Bell pepper, cucumber, carrot, avocado. Vegetables and fruits must be finely chopped and warmed to room temperature before being given to marmosets. Every day, give the monkeys protein food: crickets, cockroaches or fresh peeled shrimp or boiled eggs. You can feed baby yogurt or cereals in water without sugar. In no case should you feed canned food, sweet, fried, sour and legumes.

Fruits and vegetables are placed in one feeder, protein food in the other. The water in the drinking bowl is changed every day. It is better to use thawed water or still bottled water. Feed 2 times a day - in the morning and in the evening.

It is also necessary to give a vitamin complex - Kinder Biovital gel and vitamins of groups B, D3 and 1/8 tablet of calcium gluconate. Vitamin complexes should be given strictly adhering to the prescribed dosage.

On the entire large planet Earth, there is probably no such person who would not know anything about such an amazing animal as the chimpanzee monkey. And the source of information about these little animals is not only the pages of various books and encyclopedias about the animal world. Today, on the Internet, every day is laid out a large number of the most diverse scientific articles, amazing stories, commercials, photographs, videos and even comedy and science films, the main character of which is none other than the world famous monkey.

Almost each of us had the opportunity to see a monkey, stylishly dressed and in no way inferior to a person in elementary habits. The thing is that this mysterious creature, nature has awarded very outstanding mental abilities. For this reason, with the participation of this primate, a mass scientific research and discoveries that to this day partly shape science and its history.

Many celebrities got this smart little animal as a pet, for example, the well-known Michael Jackson. It was he who lived such a miracle of nature named Bubbles, which means Bubble in translation. It's safe to say that the trend of having a chimpanzee as a pet has not lost its popularity to this day. Many people dream of having such an amazing and smart comrade.

It cannot be said that in modern world it is very difficult to get a monkey for yourself, this business is gaining more and more momentum in popularity every day. No one can be stopped by the difficulty of finding an animal, some people can be somewhat scared off and dissuaded from this idea only by the price of an exotic pet.

If you have firmly decided that you don’t feel sorry for any money and you are ready for anything, if only a cute monkey would meet you from work, it’s up to you, but before buying this living creature, you still need to carefully weigh and consider everything. No matter how you argue, this little animal comes from the wild and, despite the level of its intelligence, it still comes from the animal kingdom. He will require proper care and attention to himself, in the event that you cannot guarantee this to him, you will ruin the life of not only your smaller friend, but also yourself personally.

The origin of the animal and its native territories

The common chimpanzee (lat. Pan troglodytes) is an amazing creature that originates from a kind of chimpanzee, which also includes the pygmy chimpanzee or, as it is also called, the bonobo, from big family hominids. The fact that together with them and big great apes man also comes from this family, already inflames not any interest in these primates. Also, scientists attribute this animal to the class of mammals.

As for the locations natural habitat, then they honor the southern and central parts of large and hot Africa as their homeland. But the distribution area of \u200b\u200bthese animals is quite wide, it seems possible to meet them in tropical forests Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Democratic Republic Congo, in the lands of Côte d'Ivoire and Mali, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, as well as in the territories of Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Zambia and many other African states.

The main characteristics of the appearance of a chimpanzee

If we talk about the exterior of this intelligent representative of the fauna, then we should start with the parameters of his body. This is a relatively small monkey, its body length is on average 60-100 cm, but we must not forget that, like a person, it has the ability to stand steadily on its hind limbs. For this reason, it is necessary to mention her height, which is approximately 160–170 cm. Body weight varies between 55–85 kg. Females are often smaller than males, but this difference is not very significant. Having seen this miracle of nature at least once, it should be noted that his body is quite strong, with a well-developed muscular system, like a person who keeps himself in excellent physical shape.

The coat of the monkey's body is usually of medium density, the animal's skin is clearly visible through it, this is also possible because there is practically no undercoat on the monkey's body. Nature has dyed the fur black, sometimes there are specimens with a dark brown shade of hair. Only the fur around the mouth and in the projection of the coccyx may have some white hairs. But his fur does not cover all parts of the body - the face, fingers and toes, soles are deprived of hair.

The “face” of the animal is also unique. It can be easily seen big ears, which are very similar to the human auditory organs, a relatively small, snub-nosed nose and highly developed brow ridges. In general, it can be noted that on the muzzle of the animal there is a kind of “mask”, which in its shape resembles a butterfly. The eye sockets of this creature are strongly shifted forward, and large supraorbital ridges are placed above them. This pretty creature has very well developed mimic muscles of the face, so they always have noticeable emotions that they experience, which, perhaps, can also be compared with a person.

The distinguishing feature between the forelimbs and hind limbs of the monkey is the size thumb and the limb itself as a whole. On her hand thumb much smaller than on the leg. But, nevertheless, the brush of this animal is a means of many manipulations, such as building nests, a thorough search of the area and other relatives, in search of some hidden delicacies, they can also use and make various tools. If we are talking about animals that develop at home, then the structure of the upper limb allows them to learn to draw.

Since a chimpanzee is an animal with extraordinary intelligence, it should be noted that the volume of her brain is approximately 580-620 cubic meters. cm.

Chimpanzee behavior in open nature

It is impossible to say categorically what kind of lifestyle these natives prefer. rainforest hot Africa, because they spend almost the same amount of time, both high in the trees and on the ground. Most often, monkeys move on their four muscular limbs, doing this in a very original way: with their hind legs they completely step on the sole, but, the joints of the hands act as a support in front. If they have a walk for not very long distances, then they quite successfully move vertically.

The active period of these young animals falls mainly during the daytime, but at night they prefer to sleep sweetly in their nests in the trees. Moreover, it should be noted the great diligence of chimpanzees, because every evening, and even day, they construct a new sleeping place for themselves. For the afternoon rest, they make cozy nests for themselves, mainly on the ground, but for the night, the monkeys are already moving to the middle floors of the trees. They like to sleep on a barrel, with slightly bent knees, or on their backs, tightly pressing their knees to their tummy.
Chimpanzee is an animal quite social and sociable. They live in the wild large groups, in which there are from 30 to 160 individuals. As for the composition of groups, there are many variations: there are communities in which females and males live, there are only female or male groups, there are also colonies in which only the female and her children of different generations live. The composition of these groups is completely unstable and may change from time to time. It can be argued that these mammals are extremely sociable, because in their sound arsenal there are over 30 of the most diverse signals, they also have a very well-developed language of facial expressions, gestures and postures. A variety of emotions monkeys also express in the usual way for humans. If it is painful and unpleasant for her, she can easily burst into tears, only the crying of this little animal is never accompanied by lacrimation, but when he has peace and joy in his soul, he also does not hold back his smile.

How to understand their communication? There are several features by which you can determine what this mammal has in mind. In the event that a chimpanzee needs to call someone, a corresponding “calling” grimace appears on his “face” and he “hoots” in a peculiar way. If the animal wants to demonstrate aggression and readiness to attack, then it is common for him to purse his lips, accompanying this with an attentive and piercing gaze. In a situation where a humanoid creature opens its mouth, while parting its lips and exposing its gums, it is a signal that someone frightened him. If the animal makes aching sounds, this may mean that something is wrong, he is either not very comfortable, or he is hungry.

The process of reproduction in these primates does not depend at all on the season and weather conditions. The gestation period lasts an average of 220-225 days, at the end of this period, most often one chimpanzee baby is born, but, as in people, there are cases of twins being born. The cub is born completely, devoid of hair, only after some time hair gradually appears. For many weeks and months, the baby exists in close and inseparable tandem with his mother, at which time he gradually learns the art of independent adulthood. Males and females reach sexual maturity at different ages- female chimpanzees at 6–10 years old, but males at 7–8 years old.

When purchasing such a very exotic pet, you must remember that you are bringing into the house not just an animal, but a creature that requires no less attention for care than Small child. He also needs to be educated and trained in various skills. Due to the fact that the intelligence of this exotic is much higher than that of all other representatives of the fauna of our planet, you will often be pleasantly surprised at what this African pet is capable of. But it is impossible not to mention that there are back side those good mental faculties.

Just like a child, a chimpanzee needs to be taught all the basic concepts. It seems possible to teach him to go to the toilet and even flush after himself, wash his hands before eating and after a walk, sit at the dinner table, like a full-fledged family member, eating not with his hands, but with a spoon. With this companion, you can absolutely safely go shopping, while buying clothes for yourself, do not forget that more than one came and your friend will also not refuse a new T-shirt, blouse, shorts or a fashionable cap that he will wear with pleasure, only you need him to get used to it. And after a while, the animal will dress up on its own.

The learning process is best done visually, perform all the actions that your pet should learn before his eyes and after some time he will begin to imitate you and he will succeed.

In the event that you have some troubles at work or just a bad mood - know that you have someone to cry on your vest, at home you will find the faithful and reliable shoulder of your home monkey. She will not rub against you and purr like a cat, or wag her tail happily like a dog, this monkey is able to pity and sympathize, like your very own. best friend. She may also wake you up in the morning if she develops the same sleep pattern as you. On your day off, when you just want to lie down and watch TV, your four-legged friend will be happy to keep you company. You can also come up with a number of entertainment for him, such as drawing, simple computer games or new toys, most often something that he has not seen before, takes his attention to long time. The monkey will not refuse various entertainment procedures in the yard, for example, playing with a ball, it will gladly run with you for company.

Unfortunately, these little animals cannot be taught human speech in any way, and the point is not that they lack intelligence, because they will perfectly understand your speech. The reason for this is a completely different structure of the speech apparatus, although, as some experiments and studies show, the language of deaf-mute chimpanzees is acquired quite well.

  1. The negative side of the content of such a pupil. The ingenuity and intelligence of an animal is not always fun and funny, as it might seem at first glance. Returning home from work, you will never know for sure what subject of your apartment has been touched by the intellect of your tenant. He is able to unscrew cabinet doors, beat dishes, turn on and forget to turn off the water, ruin furniture and wallpaper (this is especially often the case in anger). It is rarely possible to hide anything from them, unless you have a reliable safe.
  2. Hygiene. These animals are afraid of water, so you need to very carefully accustom them to water procedures, but you can’t do it forcibly, this measure is fraught with animal aggression or long-term resentment. In general, you should not do anything against his will, do not forget that this is a very touchy creature, and simply wild animal, which has strength many times greater than a person. And not only the interior of your home, but also its inhabitants themselves can suffer from a fit of anger. If you find the right approach, then it is still possible to instill in this little animal a love of cleanliness and then she will gladly take a shower and take a bath. You should only be especially attentive to your household after bathing, he can easily catch a cold.
  3. Housing for your friend. Of course, it will be nice if you build a spacious cage for him, equip it with various branches, on which the monkey will climb and jump. But the presence of a personal enclosure does not mean that she will spend all the time there. Long stay in captivity can negatively affect the mental state of the animal and lead to excessive aggressiveness. It is best to allocate a small room for him.
  4. Food. Due to the fact that chimpanzees have many qualities in common with humans, their diet is also not much different. You can of course use regular primate food as a main meal, but it will be easier and more economical to feed him just healthy food. Its menu should include such products as bread, boiled vegetables, crackers, various cereals, butter, cabbage, onions, sugar, nuts and many other products that are in your refrigerator. You need to limit fatty foods. AT summer time you can pamper your friend with grass, acacia branches and dandelions, so he will definitely like them. This monkey can keep you company in a tea party. From time to time you can give boiled eggs, fruits and berries.

For people who cannot imagine their life without a pet, the appearance of a handmade monkey in the house becomes a real holiday. The little ones look like a funny little man, they please those around them with their tricks and instantly attract attention. Such monkeys become Internet stars, delight their owners with a cheerful disposition and do not require complex care, like other exotic animals.

Is it possible to keep a monkey in the house?

At first glance, there are practically no objective reasons why this should not be done. These are well-studied, independent animals, similar to humans. Food for them is sold in zoo galleries, and many articles have been written on how to provide them with the right content.

Nonetheless great amount a person makes the same mistakes when they are kept in captivity. Mainly because they forget: pet monkeys are not children. They cannot exist in the same conditions as humans, they cannot eat our food. A monkey needs a pack, it does not perceive a person and cannot be trained, like a dog or a cat.

Difficulties begin when the grown up monkey refuses to wear a diaper - it is extremely difficult to accustom this animal to walking, or at least to the tray. They can also show aggression, expressing their dissatisfaction. In order for the monkey to feel comfortable and calm at home, you will have to try to provide her with all the necessary conditions.

Javanese macaques

Breeds of domestic monkeys are quite diverse - small animals that can be picked up and which will not require significant space are best suited for keeping in captivity. One of the most common breeds are

These domestic monkeys are distinguished by their calm disposition and touching appearance and behavior. They have very expressive eyes, graceful hands with thin fingers. In nature, in families, these macaques take care of each other with deep tenderness, do not let go of their cubs.

The favorite food of Javanese macaques is mollusks, crabs: they live off the coast of water bodies, and this is their natural food. Another name for these animals is crabeaters. Females are better suited for keeping in the house: they do not have fangs, like males, and they will not be able to harm their owners. The length of Javanese macaques is about half a meter.

wistity

This is one of the smallest monkeys that is customary to keep in the house. Their body length is only about 20 cm, they are distinguished by a bright, beautiful color - the whole body is covered with thick hair and stripes, and the ears are decorated with white or black tassels.

These are very touching animals: they have a cheerful, emotional disposition, they love to play and have fun, frolic, they jump a lot and actively along the branches. However, in the event of a danger, they are very frightened and literally panic: they have a very delicate psyche.

Wistiti are very fond of fruits and vegetables, they can be fed with infant formula milk. Among all others, these domestic monkeys adapt most comfortably to the conditions of captivity.

capuchins

Capuchins are perhaps the most common and well-known monkeys that are usually kept in captivity. These types of domestic monkeys have miniature sizes from 30 to 50 cm in length, their natural environment habitat - south South America. Capuchins have a fairly long lifespan for monkeys - about 25 years.

Breeds of domestic capuchin monkeys have a cheerful and unpredictable disposition. These are funny, stubborn animals that love to play pranks, make faces, mimic the owners and their guests. The facial expressions of capuchins are very rich - they are mobile, emotional animals that never sit still. To be kept in captivity, they need reproduction natural conditions: a cage where they could jump on branches, hang on their tail.

Capuchins love children's toys - they really look like little fidgets who do not want to grow up. During games, they make a huge amount of sounds, mutterings and chirps, so you need to be prepared for the fact that these animals are quite noisy. Another feature of these monkeys is that they love rags, they busily wipe their faces with them, take cover during sleep.

A monkey at home loves space, so it is important to responsibly approach the issue of placing an animal in an apartment or house. An animal should be treated like a member of the family, and therefore it would be most correct to allocate a small, brightly lit separate room in which one could recreate natural natural conditions. It is necessary to place ropes, tree branches throughout the room so that the animal can splash out the accumulated energy.

If it is not possible to allocate a separate room, you can solve the issue of placing the monkey with the help of a cage. The cage should be spacious, the size of an aviary. It should also have ropes that resemble lianas for animals, tree branches, a house in which they could feel protected. The cage needs to be cleaned daily.

Feeding

In no case should you feed the monkey from the table. The main diet should be a special food for monkeys, which contains necessary elements and minerals. Fresh fruits and vegetables, cereals, seeds should be given, sometimes boiled eggs should be included in the diet. Once a week, a pet monkey should receive boiled fish or meat. Insects will become a real delicacy for the monkey.

All products must be fresh, thoroughly washed and free from preservatives. If the animal's diet is not balanced, it lacks vitamins, this will immediately affect its health.
