Department of History of the Moscow University for the Humanities: history, personnel, scientific schools. Strategy for the development of scientific activity

1. Teaching the Humanities at the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute

The historical name of the university is Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute (KMI). It was formed in May 1779 - first as a land surveying school at the Survey Office of the Senate, and since 1835 - as an independent educational institution. The first director of the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute was the famous writer S.T. Aksakov. It is largely thanks to him that KMI develops a tradition of forming versatile educated specialists. In the 19th - early 20th centuries, well-known scientists and public figures were invited to the institute to teach humanitarian and legal disciplines: writer and publicist V.G. Belinsky, historian I.E. Zabelin; lawyer, chairman of the First State Duma of Russia S.A. Muromtsev and others. Goodwill, mutual consent, respect for pupils formed the basis of educational traditions of KMI.

Of great importance for spiritual and moral education academic discipline has always been and remains the history of the Fatherland. teaching Russian history was introduced into the curriculum of the Konstantinovsky Land Surveying School in 1819. The first history teacher known to us during this period was Nikolai Timofeev (a graduate of the Yaroslavl Demidov School of Law). In May 1835, by decree of Emperor Nicholas I, the school was transformed into an institute. According to the charter of 1835, the training was four years. History began to be taught in the second year of study. It is interesting that in the curricula the discipline "history" (general and Russian) was necessarily connected with "political geography" and "statistics". He taught this subject in the 1830s. provincial secretary Belov, "from the real students of Moscow University." In 1844, the new Charter of the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute was approved, in accordance with which a 7-year plan of study and curricula for each subject were drawn up. In accordance with the new staffing table, the discipline "General and Russian History" was separated from geography and statistics, taught in each class, and the number of teaching hours was doubled.

In 1849, the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute received the rights of a first-rate educational institution. Since that time, the courses of taught disciplines have given KMI students the opportunity to receive a general secondary and higher professional education. By the mid 1850s. KMI has gained a reputation as one of the best educational institutions Russia. The material base of the institute was strengthened, world-famous scientists were involved in work with pupils: academicians V.Ya. Struve and A.Ya. Kupfer (astronomy), Academician I.B. Auerbach (geology) and others.

In 1853/54 account. year, the curriculum was supplemented by the subject "Russian Antiquities, or Archeology." The main purpose of the innovation was "familiarization with ancient manuscripts, scribe books and other documents that are so necessary for a boundary official." The well-known historian and archivist Ivan Yegorovich Zabelin, later one of the founders of the Russian Historical Museum, Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Society of Russian History and Antiquities. Widespread fame and recognition came to I. E. Zabelin in the mid-1860s, after the publication of his fundamental works “History of the City of Moscow” and “Home Life of Russian Tsars in the 16th and 17th Centuries” (the book was awarded the Big Silver Medal of the Archaeological Society and Demidov Prize from the Academy of Sciences).

In these works, as well as in the two-volume "History of Russian life from ancient times" by I.E. Zabelin explores questions about the significance of Moscow as a patrimonial city, the role of the sovereign's palace, the position of women in Russia, the influence of Byzantine culture on Russian, describes everyday life and characteristic features of the life of the Russian people. Peru I.E. Zabelin owns numerous scientific publications: "Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich", "Russian Personality and Russian society on the eve of the Petrine reform”, “Identity features in ancient Russian architecture”, “Historical description of the Donskoy Monastery”, “Kuntsevo and the ancient Setun camp”, “Materials for the history, archeology and statistics of the city of Moscow” and others.

“A bright mind and a lively clarity of sight,” I.S. spoke of Zabelin in this way. Turgenev. At the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the scientific and literary activity of I.E. Zabelin's contemporaries called him "Nestor of Russian historiography".

I.E. Zabelin taught history and archeology in the senior classes of the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute from 1853 to 1869. He compiled a special course of lectures for KMI. In the curriculum, as well as in personal diaries, Zabelin outlined his view on the main goal of pedagogical and scientific work: "to study the history of the state through a description of the life of people." Historical basis life of Russian society, the scientist considered the idea of an autocratic monarchy, inextricably linked with the Christian idea of power and Christian legal consciousness. I.E. Zabelin took a creative approach to teaching Russian history.

In his notes, he noted: it is necessary "to put the mind of the pupil like Robinson on a deserted island, where he himself, without any outside help, must seek for himself all the means of subsistence." Ivan Yegorovich was convinced that the moral principle in young pupils should be instilled "by the power of an example, an event, a figure." He saw the main task of teaching in educating the younger generation of patriotism and civil legal awareness: “You cannot be a citizen of the Universe,” he wrote in the notes to lectures, “this is the dream of idle people. First of all, it is necessary to be a son of your homeland, a citizen of your city, a member of your family, that is, a person of that cause that is not in the clouds, but right in front of us, in our hands.

There is no doubt that the personality of Zabelin himself - a tireless worker of science, passionate about his subject to self-forgetfulness - influenced the students of the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute. Ivan Yegorovich was remembered with love and gratitude by more than one generation of students.

On the pages of the press of the second half of the 60s. XIX century, the issue of the content of education and ways of developing education in Russia was widely discussed. The discussion was based on the thesis about the priority importance of those knowledge that form morality, develop objective view on natural phenomena and social life.

The teaching staff of the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute generally shared this position. Hence the increased attention to the quality of teaching the subjects of the humanities cycle, the repeated discussion of the issue of expanding the cycle of legal sciences, etc.

Confidence and good intentions in relation to the throne and the Fatherland were kept as a good tradition of the Land Survey Institute, the pupils of which, according to contemporaries, managed to resist the temptation of revolutionary activity in the period bourgeois reforms 1860s - 70s

From 1864 to 1879 Director of KMI was Alexander Lvovich Apukhtin. On his initiative and with his direct participation, numerous changes were made to improve the quality of education. The financing of the institute and the financial situation of teachers have significantly improved.

In 1879, the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute solemnly celebrated its centennial anniversary. By this time, the institute had moved to a new building, the house church of the KMI had been reconstructed. The rector of the temple since 1773 was Master of Theology Andrey Grigorievich Polotebnov. He also taught the Law of God, integral part which was the history of the Russian Church (closely connected with the history of the Russian state). A.G. Polotebnov was widely known as a spiritual writer and publisher of the journal The Joy of a Christian in Reading the Bible.

In the staffing table for 1879/80. the teacher of history was the inspector of the Moscow Theological Seminary, master Alexei Ivanovich Tsvetkov. Unfortunately, there is no additional information about him. The place of a private teacher of jurisprudence in the same academic year was taken by a professor at Moscow University, court counselor Sergei Andreevich Muromtsev.

Another well-known scientist - historian, professor of Moscow University Yuri Vladimirovich Gauthier, read a course of lectures on the history of land ownership at the beginning of the 20th century at the Konstantinovsky Land Survey Institute (1907-1917) Undoubted advantage This course was to cover the history of Russian land ownership in close connection with the socio-political history of the country. Yu.V. Gauthier was an outstanding researcher in the field of source studies, historical geography, and the economic life of the Russian state. He was an excellent teacher, he could "without any theses and other pieces of paper, hour after hour, week after week, simply tell what happened in Russia in the past centuries - as if he saw it himself." Students greatly appreciated Gauthier's ability to create a relaxed atmosphere during classes, the teacher's desire to identify research qualities in each of them, to teach creativity to work with historical sources. Such principles of teaching are in demand in any historical time; undoubtedly and beneficial effect on the pupils of the personality of a teacher who has broad erudition and is able to treat his students with respect.

2. Teaching social sciences in Soviet time and activities of the department

After the October Revolution of 1917, the humanities disciplines, as the spokesmen for "the proletariat alien to the bourgeois ideology", were abolished. In the first years of Soviet power, only Marxist philosophy was taught in MMI among the social disciplines. In the late 1920s introduced a course of political economy, designed to carry out "a thorough economic training of proletarian specialists." In 1930 MMI had two departments social sciences: Dialectical Materialism and Political Economy. In 1945 they were united in the department of Marxism-Leninism. In the 1950s this department was headed by a famous scientist, doctor of economic sciences, professor I.S. Panteleev. Since 1959, he was replaced by a candidate historical sciences, Associate Professor V.A. Sidorov, later Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor.

In the 1960s . the cycle of social disciplines consisted of: the history of the CPSU, scientific communism, scientific atheism, and optionally taught Marxist-Leninist ethics and Marxist-Leninist aesthetics.

In 1979, two departments were re-established: the Department of the History of the CPSU and Political Economy (headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor P.A. Popov) and the Department of Marxist-Leninist Philosophy and Scientific Communism (Head of the Department - Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor S. .S. Spiridonov).

In 1983, the departments were reorganized and began to be called respectively: the Department of the History of the CPSU and Marxist-Leninist Philosophy (Doctor of Historical Sciences, Prof. V.A. Sidorov) and Political Economy and Scientific Communism (Prof. P.A. Popov).

It should be noted that although in the Soviet years the department was squeezed into the Procrustean bed of Marxist-Leninist ideology and worked under the constant control of party bodies at various levels, the teachers of the department tried to make the teaching of their disciplines lively and meaningful. Circles on the history of the USSR, aesthetics, and scientific atheism worked at the department.

Fundamental changes in the life of the department are associated with the socio-political changes of the perestroika period (the second half of the 1980s - the beginning of the 1990s). In 1990, the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities was formed from two previously existing departments, headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Yu.L. Dostovalov.

The nature of the disciplines taught was changed. The department has become a center that unites all the socio-philosophical disciplines of the university.

From 1994 to 1997 acting chief. the department was Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor S.F. Vititnev. In 1997, the head of the department was approved by the candidate of philosophical sciences, associate professor V.S. Samarkin.

Since then and until now, teachers of the department lead more than thirty training courses. In addition to the traditional history of the fatherland, philosophy, sociology, political science, culturologists, teachers teach courses in Psychology and Pedagogy, Ethics, Aesthetics, Logic, Rhetoric, etc., as well as a number of special courses. An important component of the activities of the staff of the department has always been and still remains scientific research on topical issues of public life and closely related to the profile of the institute: for example, the subject of research by teachers was the history of the cooperative movement in the USSR, social problems villages, rental policy in the agricultural sector, etc.

3. From the Department of History, Philosophy, Political Science to the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines

In November 2002, the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities was renamed the Department of History, Philosophy, Political Science. As before, her focus is on working with students. Since 2000, there has been a practice of lecturers with scientific reports at open meetings of the department with the invitation of colleagues from other departments, students and graduate students. Such work, according to the general opinion of the members of the department, stimulates the interest of teachers in research work, helps to reveal their creative potential.

The department pays a lot of attention to the scientific work of the students themselves. This is served by their reports at seminars, essays, speeches at scientific conferences, participation in interuniversity competitions. In the second half of the 1990s - early 2000s. a student sociological center worked at the department, within the framework of which research was prepared on the problems of university life, young families, student life, etc.

The department was originally formed as a team of versatile specialists who studied scientific problems that sometimes differed significantly and were difficult to reduce to a common denominator. From the first years of its history, the Department of History of the Moscow University for the Humanities has been developing various aspects of historical science related to both national and world history. Among the works of teachers are monographic works and textbooks devoted to the medieval and modern history of Russia, the history of foreign countries, international relations, the history of culture and religion, the history of the youth movement, historiosophy, and historical psychology. All this set before the scientific team the task of isolating common interests, determining the point of concentration, which would contribute to a joint creative search. This topic was eventually found. The general scientific theme of the department is formulated as follows: "Socio-cultural aspects of national and general history."

The department develops both traditional historical plots (political and economic history) and “non-traditional” ones, but more and more included in the everyday life of big science.
